All the paper talk today suggests that Aston Villa are closing in on the signing of Charles N’Zogbia from Wigan for a fee in the region of £9.5 million.

There’s no official confirmation of such an agreement from either club at this point but the reports suggest that the French winger will undergo a medical and agree terms within the next 24-hours.

While we wouldn’t normally deal in pure speculation or discuss a transfer yet to be concluded, N’Zogbia’s potential more to Villa Park carries such significance, it deserves our early attention.

Of all the summer transfers so far, this one could have a major impact on the prospects of both clubs and several players nestled in the low-to-mid price brackets across the various Fantasy games.

N’Zogbia himself, a long-time Fantasy favourite, will likely find himself a key player once again. While he has arguably been the leading light at Wigan, his influence and match winning potential seems unlikely to be diluted by a move to Villa Park. With Ashley Young and Stewart Downing now departed, the scene is set for N’Zogbia to take charge at set-plays and orchestrate the key threat to the opposition, in much the same way he did at the Latics. His mid-price value (7.5 in the Fantasy Premier League game) will look appealing to many, particularly those who choose to turn their backs on the goal-getting potential of Darren Bent for Villa’s favourable opening spell of fixtures.

N’Zogbia’s arrival will however have a likely impact on the potential of Marc Albrighton. The England U21 international was expected to build on an hugely encouraging first season in the Premier League by stepping up to fill the void left by Young and Downing. While his starting role should remain assured, N’Zogbia will likely take on the role of lock-picker, supplier of crosses and assists and deadball duties. Albrighton’s potential for points will take a hit – albeit a minor one.

There could be better news for Fantasy managers back at Wigan. Robbed of N’Zogbia’s trickery and guile, Roberto Martinez has a ready-made replacement in Victor Moses. While the 20-year-old lacks the experience and pedigree of the Frenchman, he has the ability in his locker and the hunger to prove himself in the top flight. Already sparkling in pre-season, Moses will surely relish the prospect of regular starts. With a budget price across the various games (5.0 in the Fantasy Premier League), Fantasy managers should also look forward to Moses realising at least some of his potential should the N’Zogbia deal be concluded.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I'd love to spend a day in his shoes. Sheer delight at correctly performing the simplest tasks. Though I'd be fairly certain that doesn't happen with frequency.

Imagine feeling an overwhelming sense of achievement simply for dressing yourself correctly!

I was about to ask the same question about Drogba. I was scared off him by the red/ yellow marker that FPL had put on him and I wanted to field definites. The brave went for Malouda and Drogba, and I went with safe Frank. I have Drogba in my team currently, next to Rooney and Rodallega.

he was an injury doubt as I recall. So too was lampard...in the end i spent the last day before kick off switching him in and lamps out and vice a versa as better news came in about Frank. Eventually settled on rooney and Lamps...had to spend the next week and 4pt swapping back for Drog and Malouda.

Mind you...best 4pt I spent...they got me well over 30 pts as I captained Didier.

What is everyones position on 'safe' players versus 'risky' players.

Last season I got badly burned at the start trying to find value players that I thought would make a big splash e.g. Martin Petrov and as a result struggled badly for a few weeks until I gave in and wilcarded.

This season I think I'm heading to far in the other direction by trying to make sure I have 15 players that will be first choice even though they wouldn't have the highest scoring potential. As an example, choosing Duff (starter, involved in attacking play, but never scores heavily) over Tarrabt (promoted team, still might leave, no prem experience, but looks amazing).

How are you all balancing it? I'm currently thinking of taking no risks with my defence and gambling on one midfielder and forward that could be explosive.

Don't forget Lampard was injured for a long time. He would probably have been in a similar EA position otherwise. Also Lampard far more nailed on than Malouda, who will defo get rotation.

EASports Index is interesting to me. Everyone seems to look at last year's numbers and assume those players will perform well again..

I know it is based more in statistics, but from year to year bonus points have changed so much in the past, as do player positions (Malouda especially could see a new role under Villas-Boas) that I wonder if too much weight is being given to EA.

Great data point to triangulate and a nice "feather in the cap" when choosing a player (sort of like set piece duties) but I won't make decisions from the START on EA, only after a few weeks of letting the dust settle.

Well with Taarabt he won the championship player of the year. can't find another midfielder for the same price i would rather have in, in all honesty. The midfielders this year have taken a massive price hike and is causing selection problems

I've gone with holt too. He could be crap but seems to be heavily involved in set pieces

Nathan Dyer the other newbie in my team. Hes fast as fook n v likely to play every game.

Its the newbie defences i don't trust. The gap between the prem and championship has closed as much as it has between the top and bottom team in the prem.

P.S. I also had petrov starting for me last year so my advice may be sh1t

      Simpson

      Coloccini
      Enrique (if he stays)

I'd say Simpson is about 80% vs R Taylor 20% and likewise for S Taylor vs Williamson

I reckon they're as likely as each other to start but S Taylor might give you more going forward.

I need 2 x bench fodder in def and, call me crazy, am tempted to get Simpson and R Taylor at first then transfer whoever doesn't play after a couple of weeks ... I think a Newcastle defender at 4.0 is top value

True .. but knowing me, I always wildcard after 3 weeks ... even if I don't though, worst case scenario, I have a 4.0 defender (maybe 3.9m) sitting as my 3rd sub every week ... tempted seeing as I always play 3-4-3 or 3-5-2 anyway!

Erm, I don't like it at all:

      1) Double Wigan defence = very risky despite first few fixtures
      2) I can't see where Spurs are keeping a cleansheet in first 10 GWs (re: Dawson)
      3) MGP & Samba ... I suppose it depends how you think Blackburn will do ... I thought MGP was benched at the end of last season though?
      4) Will Adam play? Will he take set pieces? Not as effective as he was for Bpool - look at Silva / engineer an upgrade to Lampard
      5) Gervinho - it's a risk ... will he play? Is he any good? I'm watching him for a few weeks because they've got 3 tough fixtures to open with
      6) I would go in with some Chelsea attackers with those fixtures

      Just a few thoughts ...

I don't think you need either, they're certainly luxuries.

The way I see it though, there aren't many good value midfielders out there around the £8.0m with a decent first 6 fixtures. Baines got something like 6 goals and 11 assists last season which is good even for a midfielder, plus he gets more CS points ... I'm going in with Baines

Another one of those combination questions I'm afraid.

    A) Luiz, Malouda and Holt
    B) Hughes, Lampard and Holt
    C) Hughes, Malouda and Zamora

    Would appreciate any feedback! 🙂

      B. Assuming your defence already has at least 1, maybe 2 biggies.

Defence would be Kompany, Rafael, Hughes, O'Shea, S.Taylor. Thanks 🙂

I just heard some epic epic news. Capcom are touring the country doing a promotion, and it's basically gonna be an epic party with free booze.

    Given (Al-Makalabay)
    Huth, A.Cole, Hangeland. (Wilkinson, Simpson)
    Nani(c), Lampard, Taarabt, Barton, Sinclair.
    Van Persie, Holt. (Graham)

    3-5-2

What do you guys think? Scrimped too much on forwards maybe?

Is anybody leaving Nzog out or is that FPL suicide at his price- especially if he has Bent to finish off his service.

I've finally bitten the bullet and stuck Ruddy and Moses in to accomodate Rooney instead of Drogba.

    Team is now:

    Given/Ruddy
    Hughes/Kompany/Samba/Simpson/Orr
    Tarrabt/Downing/Malouda/N'Zogbia/Moses
    Zamora/Rooney/Suarez

    Any thoughts on draft team?!

    Given/Begovic

    A Cole,Kompany, Samba, Woodgate, Foley

    Silva, Hoolahan, kalou, Lampard, Barton

    Holt, Abgonlahor, Suarez

Pretty bad mate...need another big hitting striker - kalou not likely to play much, woodgate a definite liability, foley crap, hoolahan unproven in prem

      Erm,

      Will the below definitely play?

      Woodgate
      Foley
      Kalou
      Agbonlahor
      Suarez (after Copa America)

I would describe it as a bit of a kamakazee team

Everyone keeps saying suarez wont play first couple of weeks. Is there any evidence to support this or is it just guesstimating? He's on fire and would free up cash nicely

I just need a few opinions please...

    Given - Ruddy
    A Cole - Kompany - Hughes - Simpson - Orr
    Sinclair - Barton - Lampard - Sessegnon - Taarabt
RvP - Holt - Suarez (or Carrol for first GW)

(for 3-5-2 or 3-4-3 that I always play.)_

    Hart (Ma Kalambay)

    Kompany Riise R.Johnson (Shittu)

    Yaya Sinclair Nzog Walcot (Tiote)

    Van Pers Suarez Ba

Any thoughts? Fairly confident of the team but just not sure about Walcott. Front line I'm quite happy with, hoping Suarez starts the season, I reckon Demba Ba could have a stormer at the start, then may look to bring someone else in, Odemwingie maybe.

Riise, I'm not sure - i like him though and he could spank a few in nand I think N'Zog will be on fire no matter who he plays for.

    Cheers!
