Today’s Members article sees the top ten defenders in terms of value come under the spotlight. What’s noticeable with regard to our projected points per Fantasy pound is only one of our top ten defenders ranks higher than any of yesterday’s top ten goalkeepers- with “Save” points boosting the goalkeeper tallies, it highlights the importance of picking the correct goalkeeper pairing in order to get the most out of your budget…
Question everyone:
John Arne Riise, worth a go???
I honestly don't know whether I should pick him up seeing as their are other more solid options for the same price.Open ControlsI have him penciled in,but at 6.0 he's not cheap. Much better value in the Metro game.
Open Controls
I am sorry but this projecting value business is utter tripe. Why on earth should we believe these people have any more insight into the final scores than any of ourselves. Just a gimmick to try and enhance the site.
Open Controlslol
Open ControlsI wonder how your score from the last few years compares with theirs. I'm not even a member but can at least acknowledge that they know what they're talking about.
Open ControlsBetter i believe. 700th last season and 1200th year before last.
Open ControlsIn that case I'm sure they'd welcome you to make your own predictions and see how they compare. They're not meant to be absolutely accurate, just a general indication of how well players might do, perhaps aimed at those who haven't got the encyclopaedic knowledge you apparently have and would be less than confident recognising those players themselves. In other words 'scouting' players.
Open ControlsYes indeed, but i don't see how much value it adds. To be honest this site stops people from thinking for themselves. I value what they do but really only use it for the injury information and for chat purposes occasionally.
Open ControlsIt depends what the extent of your knowledge is. If you're well-informed then the information supplied may well be of less value to you as you have confidence in your own justified opinions but the stuff this site comes out with is clearly extremely helpful to the player with a more casual interest in football. Fair enough though, I take your point
Open Controls
84th last season
Although i'm something of a dormant contributorOpen ControlsAlso have you any idea how many bandwagons they have started that came to absolutely nothing? Yes they are knowledgeable football folk but projecting a players final value is nothing more than a decent stab. They would be the first to admit it i am sure.
Open Controlsno one knows whats going to happen.. its all just informed gambles.. some people are more informed than others..
Open ControlsMaybe FFS should think about employing someone who knows exactly what's going to happen? Just an idea, but I think it would be beneficial to the site if at least one of the Scouts had some sort of pre-cog power.
Just my opinion.Open Controls
It's only a bandwagon if it's unsucessful.
Open Controls
Ok, this isn't a rate my team as such - but i'm genuinely interested to see what holes people can pick in this team i've mustered up (bar some of the obv - will malouda be starting).
Given, Ruddy
Kompany, Rafael, Brown, Simpson, Taylor (sw)
Toure, Malouda, N'zog, Sinclair, Taarbt
RVP, Bent, Rodellega
I had Suarez but he's definitely going to miss the first game and is likely to be on the bench for the Arsenal game.Open ControlsSeen Given/Ruddy touted as a partnership a lot. Other than being cheap, is there anything else in its favour?
Open ControlsGiven and Kenny work well as a home rotation policy
Open ControlsCech/Ruddy
Open Controls
No real reason - i'm not utilising it as a combo - i plan on just playing given every week to be honest - could easily change to Kenny or whoever
Open ControlsDon't like the lack of an obvious sub TBH Not Marshall. I assume you'll be rotating Taarabt and Sinclair, but that's very expensive. I can see that you've plundered your defensive bench to pull it off and I think you may coem to regret that. Otherwise; nice.
Open Controls
Suarez isn't 'definitely' anything; latest reports suggest that he WILL start (check the recent article), but it's pretty much guesswork until something more concrete comes out of Anfield which it most likely will before the start of the season. He's in my team until there's reasonable indication one way or the other rather than fans speculation bouncing off each other
Otherwise a very good team! 😉Open Controls"Suarez will not be involved in the team's Premier League opener against Sunderland on August 13 and will only be on the bench for their eagerly anticipated trip to Arsenal the following weekend. His first start of the season has been earmarked for the home match against Bolton on August 27.
Liverpool's strategy is to give Suarez enough recovery time from the Copa America and to ensure he remains fully fit throughout what will be his first full season in the Premier League. The 24-year-old was voted player of the tournament as he led Uruguay to their 15th Copa America title on Sunday, scoring four goals, including one in the 3-0 final win over Paraguay.
The plan was revealed to freelance football conditioning expert Raymond Verheijen after the Dutchman used his Twitter account on Sunday to question whether Suarez would be given time to recuperate properly from his busy summer.
The Wales assistant manager's trenchant views on how clubs train footballers are frequently aired on Twitter, often to the consternation of those on the receiving end. He is a vocal champion of individually tailored programmes being used to safeguard players from injury.
"After I tweeted it yesterday I received the message that Liverpool will give him a break of three weeks and when he returns back he will start his pre-season," Verheijen told Goal.com on Monday.
"They will train him gradually, so he will miss the start of the season. They expect him to be on the bench for the second game and then start the third game."Open Controls
too much AV, bent -> zamora and malouda-> lamps. easy.
Open Controlsnice team, i'm sure I have had a very similar team to that over the last week. One of my doubts about it are having two promoted players in the starting eleven. The back four are the same as what i currently have except that i have gone for simpson instead of taylor. I think its a well balanced team, easy to change from week to week....not sure on rodellega but you pay your money and make your choice
Open ControlsI reckon Suarez will play the first game. I guess if he doesn't play a minute v Valencia (week saturday) then he will be rested for the first game, same with Stevie (although he's nowhere near as popular)
Open ControlsJust read that back and it sounds stupid 😆
Going with a front 3 of Roda, Aguero and Suarez to start me off, with RVP coming in for Roda for GW4.Open Controls
yaya, way overpriced two pointer king. Sinclair & taarabt, risky but could pay off. Malouda possible rotation risk i'd start with vdv so you can swap gw2 when we know more. Rodallega cant hit a barn door and wigan suck.
Open ControlsMan city have favourable fixtures and if they don't change their system too much then I think he's worth it for what he provided last year.
Rod's the gamble really - purely based on Wigans opening fixtures.. he's liable to change - i did the same with Boselli last year against Blackpool and look how that turned out.Open ControlsWigan may blow hot and cold but I'd certainly back Rodallega to score well in his first three games; as inconsistent as Wigan are, they're SURELY going to score SOME goals with that opposition, and Rodallega will no doubt be involved. A risk, but he's in my team!
Open Controlsfrom memory he had a couple huge hauls but at 8.0 he gets way too many 2/3 point returns imo
Open Controls
nicely balanced team, but i think some MU attacking coverage is needed. first 3 games are WB and then 2 at home, not as bad as most make out for the champions. They'll definately expect to score in each.
Open Controlsyeah was thinking about this and shuffling it about to get Valencia in for N'zog.. but then who knows if Valencia will play or not! need to understand Uniteds line-up better first
Open Controlsi agree. MU's wide attackers will be 2 from 3 (or 4 if you include park) and its not easy to predict which ones when. For me, I think I'll have Rooney over VP for the first 3 and see how that plays out. think he's the most guaranteed MU attack starter and has pens too.
Open Controls
vdv for me bud :), doubt kuyt wil b on pens and he'l be playing further back if both carroll and saurez play. also if hes having a shocker he coukld get pulled with the abundance of mids theyl have on there bench
Open ControlsSuarez won't play in GW1 so Kuyt is a great shout!
Open Controlshmmm, i duno about that. i'd still rather the pen taker in vdv and he's a pivotal figure. lpool are play sland and bruce will have that defence tight.
Open Controls
Hey man! 🙂 How's life??
Well I'm switching a 10mil midfielder to a Chelsea player after the first GW, with Suarez likely to miss the first game I think Kuyt might still have a part to play....know what you mean about the huuuuge bench though!Open Controlslife is goood been in canada for the last week causing riots and on the move tomo to seattle so thought id get my FF fix wen i can. hows things your end?
yeahh i think kuyt will play but id still rather vdv as i sed above hes def on pens and a key player for spurs with their tough start they'l want a good result on the opening day against an everton who usually start slowly.Open Controlsthings are boring here you ass hole 😛 Enjoy the rain in Seattle haha, I hear it's as bad as Manchester!
That's a fair point about VDV, I was actually surprised he wasn't put in as a forward this year in FPL...bit of a blessing really!Open Controlshahaha, if its raining in seattle il just drive my convertable to calfornia 😉 haha
yeahh im the same i thought vdv malouda and walcott ect would be forwards happy with tht though 🙂Open Controls
evenin' have I missed much?
Open ControlsMarca reports that Juan Mata is headed to Arsenal. Anyone considering him if the move does go through?
Open Controlstough one but i'd go B if mal is a starter
Open ControlsB
Open Controls
I'm gonna disagree with everyone above and say A.
Malouda is too risky. I really don't know what amount of information is going to change that unless AVB comes out and says Malouda plays every match (which is very unlikely).Open ControlsB! 😉
Open Controls
Hey guys after at least 5+ hours of analyzing different combinations of teams I think I finally have mine down.
Hart (Ruddy)
Dunne Cahill Samba Baines (Simpson)
Nzogbia VDV Taarabt Sinclair (Dyer)
RVP Suarez(Ranger)
Any opinions?Open ControlsI would try and shoehorn Kompany into the side and capitalise on City's good defence... (Cahill & Dunne out.... Luke young and Kompany in - is an idea)
Lack of a chelsea player in the whole team... Have you seen GW2 onwards?
Suarez won't start till GW3 - see earlier post about fitness.Open ControlsYeah I wanted Kompany in the lineup, but I really think Dunne will be stellar this year like his past year peformances.
From what I saw it really is in doubt whether or not Suarez will be out until GW3.Open ControlsMaybe reduce Hart to say Given and have Kompany? +0.5 for the Suarez-carroll point mentioned later.
I like Villa and Fulhams home/away rotation 1st 6 game weeks you will have one or the other at home!
As a safe bet find the extra 0.5 and have Carroll - The set pieces and crosses will be top draw at Liverpool next season...Open ControlsI thought about reducing Hart, but looking through the stats, I think Kompany will have a 140+ season, while Hart has a 160+ season, Hart will receive every minute, while Kompany almost surely miss at least a bit of playing time. Seems Hart is the much safer choice.
As for Carroll, can't say I am much of a fan of him with his large inconsistency, I would rather look towards Bent at the same price tag of 10.0 who wouldn't be sharing the lime light like Carroll would be on the Pool squad.Open ControlsI had the same thinking re Hart/Kompany.... (I picked my keepers on home/away rotation for first 6 matches... Given and Kenny are perfect) - But I can certainly see why many will choose Hart.
My plan atm... Carroll for GW1 - change to Bent GW2...(Amazing run of games) With other strikers of RVP/Rooney and Zamora/Rodallega....Open Controls
Great looking team, my only suggestion is some Chelsea coverage?
Open ControlsI really wanted to throw in a Chelsea player, I looked at Cole A for defense and decided that Baines would be the better choice, I saw Lampard as a stunning choice but with a price tag at 12.0 I couldn't find it in the budget, then you have Malouda with a price tag at 10.5, and with VDV of a tag of 10.0 I decided I would get more "bang for my buck" with VDV.
Open Controls
JackB - you still here? 🙂
Open ControlsMata apparently is close to sealing a deal to Arsenal! Big fantasy prospect imo... and aguero looks to be signed today!
Open Controls- Open Controls
Morning all....How is everyone today?
Who do you think this "One more signing" will be at United?Open ControlsAs a United fan the one position I would be worried about is CM... Fletcher, Carrick, Anderson, Cleverly and Park - Is a good set of players but I would want another personally.
Open ControlsSuarez! regardless of whther he starts the season or not, would you not want him in your team as if he is out and the fantasy market moves majorly to put him in in gw 2 or 3 will his price not be bolstered by an annoying pt .1 or .2? is that still how the pricing works?
Open Controls
Just a quick heads up - Swansea appear to have acquired Benfica's Jose Moreira in goal ... and of course QPR/SWA rotate perfectly ... thing is Moreira's only 4.0 ... 😀
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iknAvyj5HhcOpen ControlsGood price, but rotating newly promoted teams (neither of whom have strengthened that impressively thus far) is risky in my view.
Open ControlsOh, I totally agree ...
Open Controls
I knew you would like this! 😀
Open ControlsYes...me likey 😉
Actually, my daily tinkering today took place around the back 7. I want to keep the perfect if a little dear Bergo/Given rote.
My alternative to Bergo is Kenny but that's a fantasy no no as I have Orr who I've grown to like (don't ask why).
This Swansea solution may be a goer if:
a. they rote
and
b. I decide to play Given all the time
😕Open Controls
Not looking for perfect but need help pointing out players that shouldn't be here and possible advice with replacements! Cheers in advance.....
GK.... REINA (Ruddy)
DEF... GIBBS/HUGHES/RAFAEL/ (Simpson + Wilkinson)
MID... ALBRIGHTON/NANI/TAARABT/MODRIC (Ben Arfa (when fit))
ATT... ROONEY/CAROLL/ZAMORAOpen ControlsThe main weak point I'm not sure about is Nani, it's perfectly possible that he'll start every game and rack up hundreds of points but it's equally possible he'll be rotated with United's plethora of wing options. Which is a big risk on such an expensive player.
Open Controls
How's this look?
Given, Ruddy
Baines, Kompany, O'Shea, Simpson, Orr
Lampard, N'Zogbia, Sinclair, Taarabt, Moses
RVP, Suarez, HoltOpen Controlsyou have a lot of players not yet proven at premiership level
Open ControlsSuarez probably won't play the first game and then will get eased into it but yeah apart from that looks good.... Also Sunderland have a few defenders so not really sure if O'Shea will be a walk in...
Open Controlsnice coverage. im assuming bench will be simpson orr and sinclair? or holt?
Open ControlsAlmost exactly the same as mine, except I've got Carroll rather than Suarez, Duff rather than Moses, Lescott rather than Kompany, NTaylor rather than O'Shea and mine costs £0.5m too much.
Open ControlsSorry - £1.5m too much, I am very Greedy!
Open Controls
Does anyone think Bent and NZogbia is too much? I currently have both in my team and can't help thinking it's Villa overkill.
Currently no Chelsea attacking players. I guess I'd love it if Benayoun looked like a likely starter and he could take NZogbias place.Open ControlsAye. Just feeling a bit Villa heavy, but when you look at them individually, both look like good picks.
Open Controlsi'd rather nzog than bent. who else is in ur fwd line?
Open Controls
Anyone for a printable player list? One or two mistakes ... but not bad! 🙂

On Suarez... regardless of whther he starts the season or not, would you not want him in your team as if he is out and the fantasy market moves majorly to put him in in gw 2 or 3 will his price not be bolstered by an annoying pt .1 or .2? is that still how the pricing works?Open ControlsHe's likely to drop in price. Currently owned by 40% of people
Open ControlsWell I can see the logic, but do you want £9.5m sitting on your bench… when for an extra 0.5m you can have Carroll who is very likely to score with Downing, Adam, and Kuyts assists….
Open Controls
Hi folks.
Baines. Ashley Cole. Kompany.
All 3 currently in my team. Which to lose to try and regain a better balance to my team?
I want all 3 but can't afford them!!Open ControlsDowngrade elsewhere then you can! I have all 3 and happy with the rest of my team.
Open Controlsid lose baines but im sure many will disagree
Open ControlsI changed Baines to Distin, he scored a couple towards the end of last season
Open ControlsI've currently Kompany and Baines (and Luiz if he looks likely to start). Luiz cheaper and will be strong offensively as well as Cole.
Ivanovic not to shabby going forward either!Open Controls
GK…. REINA (Ruddy)
DEF… GIBBS/HUGHES/RAFAEL/ (Simpson + Wilkinson)
MID… ALBRIGHTON/NANI/TAARABT/MODRIC (Ben Arfa (when fit))
ATT… ROONEY/CAROLL/ZAMORAOpen ControlsRight then lads this is the winning team, what do you think?
Given Ruddy
Luiz Kompany Hughes Rafael Orr
Benayoun Downing Silva O'Hara Tchoyi
Torres Suarez Zamora
Of course it's all dependent of the following:
Luiz/Benayoun/Torres/Suarez statring other then that it's the magic formula lol 😉Open ControlsHow do you guys feel about Dunne? I personally feel that he will return to his former glory and rack up 130+ points this season, making his price tag of 5.5 a complete steal!
Open ControlsI have had a ganders but I am not sure about Villa this season, going to keep an eye on pre-season first before bringing anyone other than (Bent/Nzogbia/Albrighton).
Although historically Alex Mc tends to organise his defences well so you may be onto something.Open Controlsyou don't have given??
Open Controls
I'm loving dunne... one of the first players in my team at that price...
Open Controls
Having lost N'Zogbia I see Wigan struggling this season. No doubt players like Rod, Moses and Watson will step up but I just think N'Zogbia is too big a player for Wigan to lose. Just have to go back to what happened to Villa last season having lost Milner to man city. So I am going to stick my head out and say that Wigan would underachieve early despite their favourable fixtures
Open Controlsbut you would still expect them to score at least 1 goal against each of those opposition with rods being involved with 2 of them...
Open Controls
Which is best guys?
a) N'Zogbia & Suarez
b) Malouda & ZamoraOpen ControlsIs woodgate fit this year,
would love him to play well this year. He has been so injury plagued.
Also wouldnt be bad value for 4.5 in a stoke defOpen Controlslooking at everton's fixtures after gw1, I feel that I should have one of their defenders. can't afford baines, so who would be the next best option? distin?
Open ControlsHey Doosra...you still around? Yesterday you noted that when reviewing the EA stats that one would need to take into account how many players from the same team are "above" a specific player...that way indicating whether he will be first in line for bonus points. I would like to add that even with players on higher ratings, the mere fact that certain individuals make the top 100 list should suggest that for any given game they could out-do all of the other players. The top listings for each team may generally score higher more frequently (Score on the EA rating that is) but it doesn't exclude the guys lying 4th, 5th, etc. Just wanted to add that so that anyone viewing those stats don't necessarily jump for the top three if monitoring ES stats is something someone is including in their team strategy.
Open ControlsWasn't it me who pointed that out?
