Today’s Members article sees the top ten defenders in terms of value come under the spotlight. What’s noticeable with regard to our projected points per Fantasy pound is only one of our top ten defenders ranks higher than any of yesterday’s top ten goalkeepers- with “Save” points boosting the goalkeeper tallies, it highlights the importance of picking the correct goalkeeper pairing in order to get the most out of your budget…

    Question everyone:
John Arne Riise, worth a go???
I honestly don't know whether I should pick him up seeing as their are other more solid options for the same price.

I have him penciled in,but at 6.0 he's not cheap. Much better value in the Metro game.

I am sorry but this projecting value business is utter tripe. Why on earth should we believe these people have any more insight into the final scores than any of ourselves. Just a gimmick to try and enhance the site.

I wonder how your score from the last few years compares with theirs. I'm not even a member but can at least acknowledge that they know what they're talking about.

In that case I'm sure they'd welcome you to make your own predictions and see how they compare. They're not meant to be absolutely accurate, just a general indication of how well players might do, perhaps aimed at those who haven't got the encyclopaedic knowledge you apparently have and would be less than confident recognising those players themselves. In other words 'scouting' players.

Yes indeed, but i don't see how much value it adds. To be honest this site stops people from thinking for themselves. I value what they do but really only use it for the injury information and for chat purposes occasionally.

It depends what the extent of your knowledge is. If you're well-informed then the information supplied may well be of less value to you as you have confidence in your own justified opinions but the stuff this site comes out with is clearly extremely helpful to the player with a more casual interest in football. Fair enough though, I take your point

Also have you any idea how many bandwagons they have started that came to absolutely nothing? Yes they are knowledgeable football folk but projecting a players final value is nothing more than a decent stab. They would be the first to admit it i am sure.

Ok, this isn't a rate my team as such - but i'm genuinely interested to see what holes people can pick in this team i've mustered up (bar some of the obv - will malouda be starting).

    Given, Ruddy
Kompany, Rafael, Brown, Simpson, Taylor (sw)
    Toure, Malouda, N'zog, Sinclair, Taarbt
    RVP, Bent, Rodellega

I had Suarez but he's definitely going to miss the first game and is likely to be on the bench for the Arsenal game.

I think I'll start with Cech. Buggered up my keeper rotation last season and never shifted to a good one (always more pressing transfers) so I'm starting with an easy one to transfer out when I see who is looking good.

Don't like the lack of an obvious sub TBH Not Marshall. I assume you'll be rotating Taarabt and Sinclair, but that's very expensive. I can see that you've plundered your defensive bench to pull it off and I think you may coem to regret that. Otherwise; nice.

Suarez isn't 'definitely' anything; latest reports suggest that he WILL start (check the recent article), but it's pretty much guesswork until something more concrete comes out of Anfield which it most likely will before the start of the season. He's in my team until there's reasonable indication one way or the other rather than fans speculation bouncing off each other

Otherwise a very good team! 😉

"Suarez will not be involved in the team's Premier League opener against Sunderland on August 13 and will only be on the bench for their eagerly anticipated trip to Arsenal the following weekend. His first start of the season has been earmarked for the home match against Bolton on August 27.

Liverpool's strategy is to give Suarez enough recovery time from the Copa America and to ensure he remains fully fit throughout what will be his first full season in the Premier League. The 24-year-old was voted player of the tournament as he led Uruguay to their 15th Copa America title on Sunday, scoring four goals, including one in the 3-0 final win over Paraguay.

The plan was revealed to freelance football conditioning expert Raymond Verheijen after the Dutchman used his Twitter account on Sunday to question whether Suarez would be given time to recuperate properly from his busy summer.

The Wales assistant manager's trenchant views on how clubs train footballers are frequently aired on Twitter, often to the consternation of those on the receiving end. He is a vocal champion of individually tailored programmes being used to safeguard players from injury.

"After I tweeted it yesterday I received the message that Liverpool will give him a break of three weeks and when he returns back he will start his pre-season," Verheijen told Goal.com on Monday.

"They will train him gradually, so he will miss the start of the season. They expect him to be on the bench for the second game and then start the third game."

nice team, i'm sure I have had a very similar team to that over the last week. One of my doubts about it are having two promoted players in the starting eleven. The back four are the same as what i currently have except that i have gone for simpson instead of taylor. I think its a well balanced team, easy to change from week to week....not sure on rodellega but you pay your money and make your choice

Man city have favourable fixtures and if they don't change their system too much then I think he's worth it for what he provided last year.

Rod's the gamble really - purely based on Wigans opening fixtures.. he's liable to change - i did the same with Boselli last year against Blackpool and look how that turned out.

Wigan may blow hot and cold but I'd certainly back Rodallega to score well in his first three games; as inconsistent as Wigan are, they're SURELY going to score SOME goals with that opposition, and Rodallega will no doubt be involved. A risk, but he's in my team!

i agree. MU's wide attackers will be 2 from 3 (or 4 if you include park) and its not easy to predict which ones when. For me, I think I'll have Rooney over VP for the first 3 and see how that plays out. think he's the most guaranteed MU attack starter and has pens too.

I would try and shoehorn Kompany into the side and capitalise on City's good defence... (Cahill & Dunne out.... Luke young and Kompany in - is an idea)

Lack of a chelsea player in the whole team... Have you seen GW2 onwards?

Suarez won't start till GW3 - see earlier post about fitness.

Maybe reduce Hart to say Given and have Kompany? +0.5 for the Suarez-carroll point mentioned later.

I like Villa and Fulhams home/away rotation 1st 6 game weeks you will have one or the other at home!

As a safe bet find the extra 0.5 and have Carroll - The set pieces and crosses will be top draw at Liverpool next season...

I thought about reducing Hart, but looking through the stats, I think Kompany will have a 140+ season, while Hart has a 160+ season, Hart will receive every minute, while Kompany almost surely miss at least a bit of playing time. Seems Hart is the much safer choice.

As for Carroll, can't say I am much of a fan of him with his large inconsistency, I would rather look towards Bent at the same price tag of 10.0 who wouldn't be sharing the lime light like Carroll would be on the Pool squad.

I had the same thinking re Hart/Kompany.... (I picked my keepers on home/away rotation for first 6 matches... Given and Kenny are perfect) - But I can certainly see why many will choose Hart.

My plan atm... Carroll for GW1 - change to Bent GW2...(Amazing run of games) With other strikers of RVP/Rooney and Zamora/Rodallega....

I really wanted to throw in a Chelsea player, I looked at Cole A for defense and decided that Baines would be the better choice, I saw Lampard as a stunning choice but with a price tag at 12.0 I couldn't find it in the budget, then you have Malouda with a price tag at 10.5, and with VDV of a tag of 10.0 I decided I would get more "bang for my buck" with VDV.

Actually, my daily tinkering today took place around the back 7. I want to keep the perfect if a little dear Bergo/Given rote.

My alternative to Bergo is Kenny but that's a fantasy no no as I have Orr who I've grown to like (don't ask why).

This Swansea solution may be a goer if:

          a. they rote

          and

          b. I decide to play Given all the time

The main weak point I'm not sure about is Nani, it's perfectly possible that he'll start every game and rack up hundreds of points but it's equally possible he'll be rotated with United's plethora of wing options. Which is a big risk on such an expensive player.

Luiz/Benayoun/Torres/Suarez statring other then that it's the magic formula lol 😉

      Add Rafael to them 4.

5 players who might not start way to risky. Take 1 or 2 risks but 5 is too many.

How do you guys feel about Dunne? I personally feel that he will return to his former glory and rack up 130+ points this season, making his price tag of 5.5 a complete steal!

I have had a ganders but I am not sure about Villa this season, going to keep an eye on pre-season first before bringing anyone other than (Bent/Nzogbia/Albrighton).

Although historically Alex Mc tends to organise his defences well so you may be onto something.

I've got Given and Dunne - Some very good home fixtures and rotate nicely with Fulham (hughes)

Having lost N'Zogbia I see Wigan struggling this season. No doubt players like Rod, Moses and Watson will step up but I just think N'Zogbia is too big a player for Wigan to lose. Just have to go back to what happened to Villa last season having lost Milner to man city. So I am going to stick my head out and say that Wigan would underachieve early despite their favourable fixtures

but you would still expect them to score at least 1 goal against each of those opposition with rods being involved with 2 of them...

Hey Doosra...you still around? Yesterday you noted that when reviewing the EA stats that one would need to take into account how many players from the same team are "above" a specific player...that way indicating whether he will be first in line for bonus points. I would like to add that even with players on higher ratings, the mere fact that certain individuals make the top 100 list should suggest that for any given game they could out-do all of the other players. The top listings for each team may generally score higher more frequently (Score on the EA rating that is) but it doesn't exclude the guys lying 4th, 5th, etc. Just wanted to add that so that anyone viewing those stats don't necessarily jump for the top three if monitoring ES stats is something someone is including in their team strategy.
