Today’s Members article sees the top ten defenders in terms of value come under the spotlight. What’s noticeable with regard to our projected points per Fantasy pound is only one of our top ten defenders ranks higher than any of yesterday’s top ten goalkeepers- with “Save” points boosting the goalkeeper tallies, it highlights the importance of picking the correct goalkeeper pairing in order to get the most out of your budget…

If you swapped downgraded Gorkss and Hughes and uupgraded Torres, youd basically have my team..

I'm quite settled on that defence, if Aguero joins and Tevez leaves then he will be coming straight in for Torres. Want Bent but just too expensive.

Attacking cover. Maybe downgrade Hughes and upgrade Torres to Tevez.

I know he's prob ur 3rd sub, but i think Gorkss is being lined up for a move away.

As a Chelsea fan, I'd be patient with Torres, i know we have 'easy games on paper' to start the season but Villa's are favourable too and i would go for Bent atleast for a week or two especially as he is pen taker and the only one who is likely to get goals at Villa......oh and Heskey will mayb get 1 for the season off his backside!!

I kind of just have Torres in there at the moment just because there is nobody else I fancy but I doubt he will be in my team GW1. I will definitely have Lampard and A Cole.

Yeah, Bent is tempting but I still wouldn't feel confident captaining him, he is too hot and cold and at 10.0 it is very risky to include him in your starting team imo.

Albrighton should be in quite a number of set pieces anyway....

Albrighton is a good shout but have 3 Villa players already (which i only just realised writing this). I've been umming and arring about Bent for days but i'm convinced he will get goals early doors.

I have Cole, but for the 1st time in 4 years have not gone with Lamps, think he will be used less frequently this season with Josh McEachran getting games, not that i'd suggest putting him in!!

Warnock is partial to the odd rash tackle definitely. Looking at his history now it's amazing he managed to rack up 8 YCs last season and yet hardly seemed to play. Makes his card count with us look quite tame in comparison!

Presuming we don't sign a centre back then it could be either Pablo, McAuley and Dawson alongside Olsson, they are all 4.0. Would probably be Tamas though, who is 4.5.

No idea what his points projection is but i'd say he's quite capable of 6 goals and 6 assists next season. The big question mark against O'Hara is how the new BP rule will affect him. Obviously in the games where he scores he'll be fine but not so sure when he doesn't. He racked them in under the old system, 38 in not even a seasons worth of games (over last 2 years)

Personally, if i was to go for a Wolves midfielder, it would be Hunt. I can see wolves being better this season with Doyle, Fletcher and Johnson getting the majority of the BP's.

I'd consider Hunt too but only if he was a little cheaper. Given they are the same price i think O'Hara has to be the call. Shame Hunt isn't £5m or even £5.5 as he is a genuine goal/assist threat

It's very true, that is probably the hardest hit area (cheap midfielders i mean). Just at a glance there are a few guys like Moses, Ben Arfa, Petrov that might be worth a look but not much. Spoilt last season i guess!

well, at the end of play today my team looks like this....

    Given (Ruddy)
    Kompany, Rafeal, Hughes (W.Brown, Simpson)
    Barton, Tarrabt, Nani, N'Zogbia, Benayoun
    Tevez, Rooney (Graham)

    nice...

Well it's different from some of the generic RMTs on here. Maybe swap Nani to Silva? Rooney will give you sufficient attacking cover. Rafael may well be a rotational risk as will Benayoun, N'Zogbia could well slot nicely in your team.

Is anyone having Rooney from the start? I know it's not the easist of starts but WestBrom away will hold no fears then it's back-to-back home games (albeit against strong teams). I'm struggling to see too many forwards that appeal, especially if Suarez is given an extra week or two off.

Yeah I'm finding it hard picking strikers, that is why I'm 100% going to have Lampard. I would rather have Rooney than Van Persie for the first 3 weeks, City have good fixtures though so I'll definitely get Aguero if he signs and Tevez leaves.

Ye im gonna change RVP with either Drogab or Torres for GW2 , its just i don't know who will be starting so thought id put in RVP for the first GW , hopefully he can get me some points.

Yep. CS, goals, assists, team winning = important; as well as stats like you mention (penalties for missed shots on goal, etc.)

The text from FPL regarding the awarding of points is:

"The three best performing players in each match according to the EA SPORTS Player Performance Index will receive additional bonus points. 3 points will be awarded to the highest scoring player, 2 to the second best and 1 to the third.

Bonus points will be awarded the morning after the matches are played.

Examples of how bonus point ties will be resolved are as follows:

If there is a tie for first place, Players 1 & 2 will receive 3 points each and Player 3 will receive 1 point.
If there is a tie for second place, Player 1 will receive 3 points and Players 2 and 3 will receive 2 points each.
If there is a tie for third place, Player 1 will receive 3 points, Player 2 will receive 2 points and Players 3 & 4 will receive 1 point each."

Is anyone NOT getting Given?! I'm looking at splashing out on Hart or Cech- or maybe even Reina or De Gea for a bit less... if you've got them they'll be in your team every week and are reliable point scorers.

I think there's a lot to be said for splurging on defensive players- clean sheets are hard to come by outside of the big teams.

Think about this: Hart got 18 clean sheets last season, getting 4 points for each one. How many strikers got 18 goals last season? And how many of them cost 7m?

            Out of curiosity, I had a quick look (in other words, I may have missed a match or two), but the number of occasions where they conceded 2-3 goals (for -1 GK point) were;

            Man City - 10

But despite all this, Hart got 175 points last season: only 4 midfielders beat this tally, only 3 strikers, and only 1 defender.

One step down, Cech got 158: again, only 1 defender got more points than this, and 4 strikers, although he was beaten onpoints by 9 midfielders.

you can say the same for 5mil keepers and 5 mil strikers. how many 5 mil strikers get >120 points?

my theory is the 2 mil you save by going for a schwarzer or a given instead can be made up better in midfield or attack. most keepers get >120 points unless you pick a real rotter

OK, that's a very fair point. I'm still quite liking the idea of an expensive keeper but if I can come up with a cheap combo I like I might go for it. Although I'm not 100% convinced about Given, or Villa generally to be honest.

I've only just started looking at my team properly- back at work today after a week's holiday. Back at work (I'm in Oz so my day is just starting) and my workrate is already approximately half what it was before FPL started.

Plus you can pick up Kompany or Clichy for 6m, whereas Cole and Ivanovic (the only Chelsea defenders I'm looking at unless Bosingwa nails a place) are 7.5 and 7m respectively.

Another point (that may be neither here nor there - but something to think about nonetheless), is that if Hart is in your team, it's because you're going for his season total of clean sheets. In other words, he's there for most, if not all GWs.

The 7m striker on the other hand, is (depending on the fantasy manager of course) drafted in when he has a good run of fixtures, and replaced with another when his fixtures stiffen up. Generally speaking, strikers at that price point are not fixture-proof. So it's not a fair comparison comparing the score of a 7m GK to that of a 7m striker over 38 GWs.

You sure ? He said "world class" ? Vucinic is not world class , and why would united but another striker when fergie has been talking about replacing scholes

the only reason i say this is because the sneijder rumours died down and now vucinic is apparently close... disregard the world class part imo

United'll be a squad rotation team, for the most part.

Rooney will play 'most' games, assuming no Champs league midweek, etc.

Hernandez is second, Berbs third. They'll, I assume on last year, trade off with starts, Javier getting the better number/fixtures.

Javier and Berbs play the traditional striker role, Rooney plays the ... well, Rooney role -- ostensibly a striker in a 4-4-2 but roving about at will, linking mid and fwd play.

If vucinic is signed as specualtion is pointing too berbatov will see very little game time imo

Wouldn't be surprised to see United go back to 4-5-1 from time to time now Rooney isn't playing like a sack of shit any more.

That 4-4-1-1 didn't work so well away from home last season, mainly because at least one of Berbatov and Hernandez was playing (or not 'playing', as the case may be).

          Stopped reading at 4-5-1 😉

Largely agree - with the tactical appraisal.

RVP is fixture proof. Even the Scout projections has him scoring more points than the Roonpig 😛

        Given 4.5
        Kompany Simpson 5.0 4.5 4.5
        Lamps Malouda Silva Taarabt Moses
        Rooney Holt Grahem

Holt and Grahem rotate well early on and promoted teams usually start well. When it becomes clear who will get the points out of Lampard and Malouda i can take one out and upgrade the strikers.

Im not choosing a team yet, way too early and a lot of transfers will take place. I was just messing around with tactics.
