Carlos Tevez takes a break. Cesc Fabregas is fit and may feature in Arsenal’s weekend friendly. Steve Kean finally signs a striker, though may see his skipper depart for North London. Alan Pardew is determined to freeze out Joey Barton and Joe Cole’s name blinks on the QPR radar. Here’s this morning’s Scribbles, folks:

The Cesc Fabregas to Barcelona saga drags on this morning. The midfielder has now recovered from his hamstring injury and for the past two days has trained with the Arsenal first-team ahead of Saturday evening’s friendly against Sporting Lisbon. The Gunners are reportedly preparing two first-team photographs ahead of next season- one with their skipper and one without. Fabregas is even willing to take a pay cut to ensure the move goes through but the stumbling block remains a £5m difference in each club’s valuation of the player.

Carlos Tevez is the other big name in the news this morning. City have reportedly extended their skipper’s vacation, allowing him to miss Sunday’s Community Shield clash with United. Tevez’s future remains in the balance, then, and, despite his obvious appeal in Fantasy terms, the City striker will have been crossed off many a pre-season watchlist. He now seems unlikely to begin the season in the City starting line-up when Swansea turn up at Eastlands next weekend

Chris Samba’s Blackburn future is again in doubt as the latest reports suggest Spurs have moved to the front of the queue for his services. A £6 million fee is reportedly on the table as Harry Redknapp looks to bolster his backline. Presumably the Spurs boss has Samba lined up to partner skipper Michael Dawson, with Ledley King’s knee still preventing him from making regular Premier League appearances. Should Samba arrive at White Hart Lane, it’s safe to say that Fantasy managers may look more favourably both on Samba and the Spurs back four.

Blackburn fans can at least take some consolation that their club made their first move in the transfer market yesterday, completing a deal for Dundee United striker David Goodwillie . He is set to make his debut at Kilmarnock this weekend – a full Scout Report on the Scottish starlet will follow later today.

Norwich’s Ritchie De Laet has wasted little in settling into his new surroundings, following his loan move from Man United. The defender grabbed a goal and picked up the Man of the Match award in the Canaries 1-1 draw with Real Zaragoza. At just 4.0 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) he’s one to definitely consider, for those Fantasy managers undecided over low-price defenders.

While Joey Barton has hinted at seeing out the final year of his contract on Tyneside, Alan Pardew has other ideas. The Newcastle boss is reportedly determined to ensure the midfielder offers no further disruption to first-team matters by forcing him to train alone until his departure. Jose Enrique has closed his twitter account amid reports the club are on the verge of banning all players from using the social media site.

Liverpool’s forgotten man Joe Cole has been offered the chance of a season-long loan deal by QPR. Cole is clearly out of the picture at Anfield and, providing Neil Warnock’s side can afford his wages, would certainly get plenty chances at Loftus Road. With a 6.0 price tag, he’s a budget-friendly FPL option, though many Fantasy managers will steer clear until the situation becomes a little clearer.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Hey, regarding defence: The best defenders weren't far off the best midfielders, and were generally about 2m cheaper.

    surely that's better value?

It should enable you to have the points equivilent of a strong midfield, an average defence, but with 3 top strikers that you can captain and sub out depending on fixtures/form for captaincy.

Obviously it kind of limits your captaincy to stikers.

The thing is... Who will score more?

Holt and Silva + Malouda and Zamora?

Or RVP and ... say Dyer + Rooney and moses?

I convinced myself I wanted Malouda and Silva. But I really don't want to not have RVP and Rooney, especially if they start well and go up.

the midfielders last season were very good from the poorer teams. I don't know if that can hold out. I think ashley young has a very good chance of getting big scores.

A cheap midfield looks ok this season. barton (if newc), taarabt @qpr, sinclair, nzog, o'hara, maybe moses, downing is quite cheap, wilshere or ramsey may start doing well (doubt it), brunt

The problem is that you don't always know where the clean sheets are coming from.

A good defence last year might be an average performing one this season.

Midfielders are more likely to score, assist and get bonuses hence the reason why investment tends to go their way.

are they though? the bonus thing has changed, true, but if you think that Man City have a good defence which hasn't really changed (and should be closer knit) and they got 17 clean sheets.
Not many midfielders under 8m would get 68 attacking points.

You don't know where a clean sheet is coming from... correct. But equally you don't know where a goal or assist is coming from either. some players will over perform and some will underperform... the only real difference is defenders fail collectively in a team but that doesn't effect predictability anyway.

At the start of the season most players are priced according to their stats from last season to a reasonable extent

I agree to a certain extent that a £6m defender at a top four team could return more than a £6.5m midfielder but whilst you can find some good £4.5m or perhaps £4m defenders it is not so easy to find those priced midfielders. This forces you to spend more in midfield to get any sort of decent players. You might have Moses at £5m, no-one else looks worth it (at the moment), perhaps Barton or Sinclair at £6m and then a few players at £6.5m.

it doesn't work very well. i tried with arsenal - fabs and walcott. the premiership now is too hard to predict in my opinion.

arsenal lost to newcastle 1-0, and rvp took the points in other games. It seemed a shrewd move but it ended up 2,2 5,2 7,2 2,2

choosing the best players on the teams that win is where the points are. The opening fixture i have downing carroll.

Afternoon chaps. Sorry to post another team up on here, but I've reached deadlock on any changes to make. At the mo, it's looking like:

    Given Ruddy
    ACole Komps Bramble Simps Orr
    Malouda Silva Duff O'Hara Moses
    RVP Bent Holt

    The way I'm seeing things:
    a) Charity Shield will hopefully clear up the City forwards situation a bit - still not sure on Silva at 9.5
    b) would prefer Zamora in there, but Duff seems a decent way into Fulham attacking points
    c) Liverpool's pre-season is putting me off investment, but getting Carroll in for Bent and having N'Zog is another option
    d) no Everton coverage is annoying - I doubt buy into this 'they always start the season badly,' could easily be different this time

    Any thoughts?

    Dinamo Tbilisi v KR Reykjavik:
A bet I really like today is Dinamo Tbilisi -1 (Euro Handicap). Everything seems to be in favour of Dinamo here. Reykjavik have reportedly brought a very small squad with them and left some of their best players at home (most noticable absentees are Baldvinsson and Finnbogason) add to that they were heavily beaten in first leg and the high temperatures that the Icelandic team won’t be used to playing in (it will be more than twice as hot playing tonight as the temperature at home). I can’t see past an easy win here for Dinamo against an understrength and unmotivated Reykjavik.
My pick Dinamo Tbilisi -1 Euro Handicap

Mcleish was saying that he is behind the others in fitness and has him on a special regime...the speculation is that he may not be ready to start at fulham, but may get a bench role. this is just speculation though...if he is ready he will play, but it's enough of a question mark to reconsider starting him.

Anti Ipswich recommended him as the best value Norwich midfielder. He has a decent goals record in the Championship (gets-into-the-box type player) and is absolutely nailed on.

Mostly I just see Moses doing sod all and getting dropped. Why are we assuming he'll be the main points scorer when they have McCarthy and Watson as more established attackers? For all we know Jordi Sodding Gomez will take his place.

Having said that I may go for him, its just that he's being massively massively over-hyped.

Hey guys, I've said this many times before but this is the last RMT I'm going to do.

    Given (Foster)
Baines, A Cole, Kompany (Orr) (S Taylor)
    Moses, Taarabt, Tchoyi, Dempsey (Sessegnon)
    Aguero, Bent, Zamora

What do you guys think, my 2 main worries are Aguero not being very good for his price and also Tchoyi not being used as a striker.

    Any help would be great.

I think it's a dangerous game selecting any of United's wingers due to rotation though I believe Valencia will be the most favoured. Arshavin I doubt will get many minutes... I think Walcott and Gervinho will have big seasons.

just my opinion, so feel free to ignore.
modric looks expensive to me given his fpl point scoring. dyer just gets injured, so i would avoid. i like rodallega and his fixtures are good. But i have no conviction that wigan can do it. Ameobi - no idea. I think having one of ameobi and rod is cool - but would suggest a good second tier striker to go with rvp.
