King Kenny to talk it over with Suarez before deciding if his main man starts. Dempsey returns to the Fulham fold as Senderos stakes a claim for centre-half. Norwich deny Holt to Leicester stories. Reports claim Torres will start the season on the bench and Arsenal reject a fresh Barcelona bid for Cesc Fabregas just this morning. Here’s today’s Scribbles:

Kenny Dalglish will decide on whether to start Luis Suarez next week after discussions with the player himself. Suarez reports for training in a few days time but, wary of the forward’s exertions in this summer’s Copa America, the Liverpool boss clearly does not want to over extend his star man:

He’ll be back next week some time. We’ll start thinking about him then. We’ll just see with Luis when he comes in. He’s had a fantastic summer. He should be pretty happy with himself and pretty confident looking forward to the start of the season.

We need to be careful with every player. So we’ll see how he is when he comes in and have a discussion with him. We can’t predict how he is going to be like.

Clint Dempsey made his first Fulham start under Martin Jol last night in the club’s Europa League match with RNK Split . Back after playing in the Gold Cup this summer, the American took the place of Matthew Briggs on the left of midfield. Jol also benched Chris Baird, moving Aaron Hughes to right-back and giving Philipe Senderos a chance to partner Brede Hangeland in the heart of defence.

The Hangeland-Hughes partnership central defensive pairing has offered plenty solidity in Fantasy terms over the past couple of seasons, though with Jol just through the “In” door, it’s perhaps too early to read deeply into last night’s XI. If Senderos is offered regular starts under Jol, however, a starting price of 4.5 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) will surely tempt more than a few Fantasy managers.

Norwich have moved to deny stories suggesting Grant Holt is on his way to Leicester. Speculation arose yesterday that suggested the forward was set to join the Sven Goran Eriksson revolution but the Canaries have issued a statement saying:

“There is absolutely no truth at all in the stories saying we have accepted a bid for Grant Holt. Our captain is simply not for sale.”

Reports have surfaced this morning concerning Andre Villas-Boas’ first XI thoughts ahead of next weekend’s game at Stoke. Fernando Torres is set to be benched for the match at the Britannia, with Didier Drogba leading the line, flanked by Florent Malouda and, according to the Mirror, Daniel Sturridge. Sturridge is, of course, suspended for the first three games of the upcoming season, so the speculation is probably unfounded.

Darren Fletcher has taken part in his first training session since the end of last season. The midfielder has struggled to shake off the effects of a virus that sidelined him for a few months in 2010/11 and although he won’t be ready for first-team action just yet, his return will be a major boost for Sir Alex Ferguson.

Jonathan Woodgate played the full 90 minutes in Stoke’s Europa League match with Hajduk Split last night. Signed as a free agent after his contract at Spurs ran out, Woodgate comes in at 4.5 in FPL and if (big if, perhaps) he can stay injury-free, Woodgate could be something of a bargain next season, with Robert Huth at 6.0 and Ryan Shawcross at 5.0 in comparison.

Ah, the Cesc Fabregas to Barcelona saga. Reports this morning suggest the Spanish champions have had a new bid rejected by the Gunners. Arsenal are reportedly holding out for £40m and won’t budge on this one. Arsene Wenger will be hoping this deal comes to fruition one way or another soon- the nightmare scenario for Arsenal would be a final-day transfer away from the Emirates for Fabregas, giving the Gunners plenty cash but no time to spend it.

He'll be fit within 2 or 3 games and don't want to have to try and prioritise transfers early doors to get him in. Early transfers needed for changing NDyer, Moses to whichever bandwagon gets going early games.

It's good because it saves you money, and his picks aren't the worst either.

I think a Baines, Luiz, Kompany, Hangeland, Rafael defense which I've seen before is worse.

but i agree that i can reshuffle the deckchairs on the titanic. Seems to be quite a lot of "quality" in the 4.5m bracket for defenders.

De Vries probably not 1st choice.

          Necaslte are in ribbons.

Wilkinson is a massive risk (Woodgate and Higginbottam Inj)

Orr.. Who is now left as one of your main defs.. haha

I bet you wont start the season with this tripe Camzy 🙂

I think I'd take Baines and Kompany 😉

Of course I wouldn't start with a defense that weak, but I can counter one of your points.

De Vries will likely be first choice.

Can Kelly play centre back too? He was playing right back ahead of Johnson when they were both fit. Was that just because Glen could play at left back. It's a tough one to work out what their first XI will be.

I may end up with Holt yet but I do like Fulham's fixtures.

I did have Cashley but as CT and Demi pointed out, Ivanovic should start the season and then I can have a re-think and having him allows me to have Malouda instead of Silva.

Aguero is a punt, if I hear he isn't starting against Swansea I'll get RVP in.

I agree with Fulham's fixtures and assume AJ will start due to current form but... niggling doubts come in for the gw3 or there abouts for me and I'm sure I'll be needing to sort out other catastrophes with my team at that time 😉 Basically, I'm going for as little chance as possible and building from there but, as ever, I'm probably wrong.

I don't know why people are worrying about Bonus points so much.

Fact: Only 3 people per game can possibly get points from the bonus points system
Fact: They are far less significant than assists, goals and clean sheets
Fact: If you concentrate on people who get goals and assists, they are more likely as a result to get bonus points.

So basically, Bonus points should reflect on how well someone performs in a fantasy perspective, with an emphasis on attacking players.

If you know how to pick good fantasy prospects, you don't need to worry about bonus points, they'll come to you.

    If you don't, good luck.

I disagree actually. Bonus points are typically rewarded to the same players, and at the end of the season, they could get a significant amount. Goals and assists help award bonus points, and a lot of the time, if you do the reverse, and pick the players getting bonus points, you'll also be in on the goals and assists.

I practically built my team last season based on players picking up bonus and it worked almost all the time. Choosing the likes of Hangeland, Samba and Alcaraz in defense did me great, then there were the big guns of Tevez, Adam, N'Zogbia, Baines who also produced the goods.

But seriously, if he does well, there goes that plan. Maybe keep an eye on the Drog situation and the form of Sess, Taarabt and Moses and consider trying to get a Villa player in for one of them once you've established who's on form (Albrighton/Zog/Ireland???/Bent)

Orr has good early run-in and Newcastle players never seem to work out well in Fantasy terms, but Simpson seems mroe popular on here and is higher in members area analysis.

Right - I think I've found my team

    Foster - (Al-Habsi)

Hughes - Kompany - Ivanovic (Enrique - Simpson)

Taraabt - Yaya - Brunt - Etherington (Moses)

    Zamora - Rooney - RVP

Plenty of points at the back. Apart from Yaya in the middle the other three take most set pieces for their clubs. Up front, dont think I really need to explain. RVP as captain, Rooney Vice captain. Would anybody recommend any changes? 0.5 in the bank

Camzy - If ither of them hit form, the chances are one of RVP or Rooney may slump. Players don't hit form together (mostly!) eg I could lose either of them for say Suarez, frees up 2.5, giving me 3 mil. Somethings telling me I need VDV tho. Just can't accomodate. My three strikers will be up there tho, maybe I don't really need him. AHHHHH!!!!

I cant see Albrighton not being a better value at 6.5 than Etherington, cheap Villa coverage. Other than that, the rest of the changes I would make would just be due to personal preference. Good team.

    Given, Kenny
Kompany, Ivanovic, Samba, Enrique, De Laet (or another 4.0)
    Malouda, Sessegnon, NZogbia, Sinclair, Moses
    RVP, Suarez, Holt + £0.5

    Any comments most welcome cheers....

Was considering a Stoke defender instead of Samba but they have poor opening fixtures.

I think Ivanovic will outperform Cole this year but will be ready to switch him if he's not getting starts.

A new letter, Ж, is to be added to the alphabet between P and Q some time this September. The new letter is Cyrillic in Origin, and will simplify the English language for Poles, but is also analogue to a sound in Urdu.

The move will necessitate the re-printing of every piece of literature and the Internet.

    A) Silva & Enrique (if he is at Liverpool)

    or

    B) VDV & Brambles

Reason being.. VDV’s fixtures from GW 2 to 5 look terrible, though he is class. Enrique offers good attacking potential and CS especially at home with Liverpool. City also have a pretty good schedule..

I'm steering cleear of QPR's back four unless they sign a defender who takes over penalty duties, which is unlikely (Graham Alexander was a rare and wonderful thing in the annals of promoted team history) Very little pts to be found in QPR's defence.

it doesn't matter ...a QPR defender is not worth getting, doesn't matter how cheap. Very few clean sheets, no one knows if any will be capable of scoring and assisting. Just avoid them. Better to ask questions such as who are the best defenders to get for 4 or 4.5.

    Given // Al- Habsi
    Cole // Kompany // Hughes ( Bramble // Simpson )
    Malouda // Downing // O'Hara // Moses ( Brunt )
    Rooney // Dzeko // Zamora

The only think I could be tempted by (if they look set to play) is my forwards:

    Out: Rooney + Balotelli
    IN: Aguero + Suarez

Perhaps Hughes >> Enrique too 🙂

forward line up is pretty weak. Surely there's better than Klasnic. Perhaps Nzog, Malouda and Cahill is a tad excessive in midfield and some money can be freed up for a better attacker.

I theorised last season that it would be an effective strategy to start the season with a few big hitters, a good few middle of the range guys and some cheapies, and a transfer kitty of 3m + so that you could hop on the form striker etc after week 1.

The strategy does mean that of the team I have picked now, Malouda is the one that would have to upgraded to Lampard, Dorgba/Rooney to RVP, or Tchoyi to whoever. I didn't follow through but am going to give it a whack this season I think. My team is:

    Given//Ruddy
    Simpson//Kompany//Cole//Bramble//Wilkinson
    Taarabt//Tchoyi*//Moses//Malouda//Albrighton
    Rooney(C)//Drogba//Graham

    * Now, I wouldn't need to play Tchoyi until they have first couple of rough ones out of the way, so he is a purchase for week 3 onwards, or an option from then at least. Albrighton I have replaced N'Zogbia with because (a) N'Zogbia has doubts over fitness, and (2) it's Albirghton's chance to shine for Villa, not a bad punt for a few weeks and again, I have the cash should I want to upgrade to N'Zog.

That's where I am coming from!

I've thought about this as well. So much time is spent on the first week team, when in reality our knowledge of who is likely to be rotated/play or the cheap surprises is much stronger at the gw2 and gw3 stage.

Better to have a few million to spend the first three weeks getting those big hitters in without a hit.

I may go down this route too, but there's a sense of pride in trying to get the right team right straight away. Its tough but that is just one of the thrills of this game.
