King Kenny to talk it over with Suarez before deciding if his main man starts. Dempsey returns to the Fulham fold as Senderos stakes a claim for centre-half. Norwich deny Holt to Leicester stories. Reports claim Torres will start the season on the bench and Arsenal reject a fresh Barcelona bid for Cesc Fabregas just this morning. Here’s today’s Scribbles:

Kenny Dalglish will decide on whether to start Luis Suarez next week after discussions with the player himself. Suarez reports for training in a few days time but, wary of the forward’s exertions in this summer’s Copa America, the Liverpool boss clearly does not want to over extend his star man:

He’ll be back next week some time. We’ll start thinking about him then. We’ll just see with Luis when he comes in. He’s had a fantastic summer. He should be pretty happy with himself and pretty confident looking forward to the start of the season.

We need to be careful with every player. So we’ll see how he is when he comes in and have a discussion with him. We can’t predict how he is going to be like.

Clint Dempsey made his first Fulham start under Martin Jol last night in the club’s Europa League match with RNK Split . Back after playing in the Gold Cup this summer, the American took the place of Matthew Briggs on the left of midfield. Jol also benched Chris Baird, moving Aaron Hughes to right-back and giving Philipe Senderos a chance to partner Brede Hangeland in the heart of defence.

The Hangeland-Hughes partnership central defensive pairing has offered plenty solidity in Fantasy terms over the past couple of seasons, though with Jol just through the “In†door, it’s perhaps too early to read deeply into last night’s XI. If Senderos is offered regular starts under Jol, however, a starting price of 4.5 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) will surely tempt more than a few Fantasy managers.

Norwich have moved to deny stories suggesting Grant Holt is on his way to Leicester. Speculation arose yesterday that suggested the forward was set to join the Sven Goran Eriksson revolution but the Canaries have issued a statement saying:

“There is absolutely no truth at all in the stories saying we have accepted a bid for Grant Holt. Our captain is simply not for sale.”

Reports have surfaced this morning concerning Andre Villas-Boas’ first XI thoughts ahead of next weekend’s game at Stoke. Fernando Torres is set to be benched for the match at the Britannia, with Didier Drogba leading the line, flanked by Florent Malouda and, according to the Mirror, Daniel Sturridge. Sturridge is, of course, suspended for the first three games of the upcoming season, so the speculation is probably unfounded.

Darren Fletcher has taken part in his first training session since the end of last season. The midfielder has struggled to shake off the effects of a virus that sidelined him for a few months in 2010/11 and although he won’t be ready for first-team action just yet, his return will be a major boost for Sir Alex Ferguson.

Jonathan Woodgate played the full 90 minutes in Stoke’s Europa League match with Hajduk Split last night. Signed as a free agent after his contract at Spurs ran out, Woodgate comes in at 4.5 in FPL and if (big if, perhaps) he can stay injury-free, Woodgate could be something of a bargain next season, with Robert Huth at 6.0 and Ryan Shawcross at 5.0 in comparison.

Ah, the Cesc Fabregas to Barcelona saga. Reports this morning suggest the Spanish champions have had a new bid rejected by the Gunners. Arsenal are reportedly holding out for £40m and won’t budge on this one. Arsene Wenger will be hoping this deal comes to fruition one way or another soon- the nightmare scenario for Arsenal would be a final-day transfer away from the Emirates for Fabregas, giving the Gunners plenty cash but no time to spend it.

Have finally relented and realised that Benayoun is too much of a rotation risk to start the season with, if he is getting consistent game time after Sturridge's suspension he's a great option! But here's ny team as it stands now:

    Given De Vries
A Cole Jose Enrique Kompany Olsson De Laet
    Sessegnon Moses Silva Lampard Taraabt
    Graham Rooney Zamora

Whats everyone's thoughts? Got 0.5 in the bank so could maybe upgrade Graham to Holt or upgrade one of my DEF?

I quite like it, a few risks and going off Bobby (even though I have him)
Couldnt you do Lampard tom Malouda then upgrade Zamora ?

I'm not sure about Malouda its the rotation risk that is a bit of an issue, I would then have 9.0 for a striker if I did but who would you suggest?

You'd have to scrape another million from somewhere for it to be worthwhile. Bent/ Carroll look like good options

Really like this team and very similar to mine. Couple of points:

      1. Why De Vries, he won't play ahead of Hennessey will he? (I have Ruddy)
      2. I have NZogbia instead of Sessegnon, which means downgrading Olsson to a £4.0m (I have De Laet)
      3. I have RVP over Rooney, I just feel RVP is more essential, altho I have no Man U coverage!

      Otherwise, its the same!!

        1. Good point on De Vries, Ruddy it is.
        2. If I change to Malouda and keep Zamora I would have 2.0 in the bank and could do the upgrade.
        3. I think Rooney is the way to go, Arsenal are so unpredictable with everything going on, i honestly don't think they'll finish in the top 4.

It's dragged on to long this summer. Too lose him now and find a replacement isn't ideal with the season about to start. Same goes for Nasri. Should have been sorted straight away. Look how quickly Utd got their business done.

Utd need Nani more then Sneijder in my opinion. Inter will just want money anyway to help fund a move for Tevez.

It is getting rather boring. Perhaps Arsene thinks you can cope without one or both of them. I'm not sure that's true but I have a feeling you'll keep Nasri. the only problem is, he may not re-sign, so you'll get no money from him next year.

I can't understand keeping Nasri, unless Wenger is confident of getting him sign a new contract. At the moment, i can't see either of them leaving. If Cesc does leave, Barca will probably put in a bid on deadline day just to be even more annoying.

Wenger's just so stubborn. He won't sell Cesc for less than £40m but he will under-bid on the likes of Mata and Jagielka. And why has he not sold Bendtner yet?? Also Nasri could just walk away as a free-agent next season couldn't he?

Why should he accept anything less then 40m? Barca happily paid 34m for Sanchez. We could get a lot more then 40m for Cesc if he was willing to go to any other club.

Under-bid for Jagielka? No way is he worth what Everton are asking for. He's 28 and has a knee problem, 20m? No thanks.

Bendtner, maybe nobody has put in a firm bid for him.

Yeah Nasri can go on a free next season. It's happened before with Flamini, Pires and Campbell. But they were nowhere near as highly valued as Nasri so we didn't miss out on a lot of money.

First paragraph was spot on, second was nonsense. You can't have it both ways. If Utd paid 18m for a eng21 defender, and 10m for smalling when he was still considering 'sh*t', then Jags is worth 15-20m easily with the english tax. Especially considering he is a full eng international and one of the best defenders in the prem. Wenger is so used to buying french players he doesn't understand that though.

Arsenal need to sell Cesc as it's clear as day he doesn't want to play for them anymore. £35m would be more than fair, £40m is overvalued.

Utd have the resources to spend that amount though, im not sure we do. Plus Smalling and Jones are very young, they'll keep their sell on value (not that you'll sell them but who knows) Jagielka is 28 and injury prone. Im not even sure he's Evertons best defender let alone "one of the best in the league"

there is the point, however, of accumalating value and a possible sell-on price. I think a 28 year old, while being experienced and a good player, is not going to increase in value as much as a younger player approaching their prime.

Yeah true, sell on value is an issue for the buying club, but it doesn't affect the sellers sale price. See £35m for 27 year old Sneijder.

The point is he could have sold him for £35m+ by now and got in more players if necessary. I never said £20m for Jags but if Cahill's market value is £17m then a bid of £10-12m for Jags is laughable.

£15m and Jagielka would be sold - and he played 30+ league games last season so his knee can't be too bad. However if he did get injured he could keep Fabs, RVP and Vermaelen company in the treatment room eh!

Barca haven't bid more then 27m for Fabregas this season. That offer is laughable. They are just trying to unsettle him. If they want someone they get them, look how quick they were in securing Sanchez. It's become personal for Wenger.

Agreed on the Nasri point. He's obviously going to need a lot of persuasion otherwise he would have already signed. I'd still like United to sign him but can't see it now.

Barca should just pay what Arsenal are asking and start quibbling over what is apparently £5m. They're trying to buy arguably their best player (RVP too!), and club captain. Stop pissing about.

it's a toughie, hughes at home you will be relying on him getting a cs as he rarely scores or assists but is against villa, no-one really knows how norwich will do, seem to remember wigan getting spanked by blackpool first game of last season...

think I'll leave the decision up to you!

              * just to add, senderos has been getting game time in pre-season friendlies apparently and is 0.5m cheaper than hughes, I've gone for him, could be an option if money is tight...

Clichy - rotation risk with Kolarov... (Kompany better option)

Samba, only if he doesn't go to spurs!

Baines, if certain to be on free kicks and pens (arteta is coming back)

Lampard takes up too much of your cash and the rest of the MF suffers (Tchoyi, Moses and Epharaim - two of those will play week in week out... I am not sold!)

Gervinho, Arsenal tough fixtures and RVP takes most of their attack away from others... (better options at 9m!!)

the scouts have given ratings to the teams so they can calculate fixture difficulty...you can ignore that section unless you want to adjust the ratings yourself

      (a) select the clean sheets option (below the grid in the center)...then sort by difficulty, then pick your defenders

      (b) now select the attacking option and pick your forwards and midfielders

Right I am trying to guess the Chelsea midfeild as I think a player from there is an absolute must.

However I am not convinced Lampard is the answer, at 33 he's at the wrong side of his peak years, plus last seasons ijuries and the fact that he's playing from a deeper role makes me think that 12 mill is way too rich for me.

Can anyone see a potential in sturridge/Benayoun?

I can see potential if they get regular time given their prices but I can't see it to be honest. It's just wishful thinking for now. Lampard and Malouda are 12m and 10.5m for a reason.

As Kuqi says below - Sturridge banned for 3 games.

Agreed I see your point, however....are we agreed that the most likely option will be Malouda & one other flanking Torres/Drogba....if that is the case I cant see Lamps filling that role, which leaves Anelka/Kalou/Benayoun and given Benayouns MOM performances in pre-season logic would dictate the later would be the most likely starter...discuss!!

Anyone picked their team without thinking too much about the bonus points system? I appreciate it can be a big factor in your total points for a particular week but there seems to be a lot of analysis about the new system and I'm not sure it's worth all the hassle!

I've not bothered. I have based my selections based on who is most likely to start games consistently and score points consistently.

I've kept it in mind for certain choices. For example under the new system Toure not Silva is set to mop up bonus pts. But the 1.5m difference is actually more of a factor.

for the rest I'm with Loktai...who will play and score consistently....a lot of changes will be needed in the first few weeks and i want to keep them to a minimum.

Doosra's your man there...he did some research into it.

also Chemikills at Total fpl has looked into it.

He says: "Tevez won this PPI battle and fairly easily. But if he’s gone Yaya Toure will seemingly happily take the crown with Kompany on his tail (PPI classified Kompany as a defender last season). Joe Hart poked his head up after those 3. Silva’s PPI returns are notably much lower than his midfield counterparts despite having mounted many a BP last season. Depending on how things fall, Aguero may take up Tevez’s mantle here."

Here;s a link to Doosra's work on it....note how low Silva scores in the new system compared to Toure. His fancy dan tricks clearly not catching the new stats' eyes.

Chemikills started his article unconvincingly in my opinion and then said "However if you’re not on the winning side, then you can’t have a clean sheet". Maybe he's a big genius and he has worked it all out but I stopped reading him...I'll wait to see what Andy says

And I can't see why the giant plodder will necessarily get more bonus than Silva...he played more which boosts his ranking in the stats but Silva took a bit of time to get going

I would like to have a request in this matter. I believe that a factor that made Silva score low on the new BP-system is the influation of Tevez in Citys attack. What was Silvas and Toures stats when Tevez was not on field. I remember very vividly how Silva played very good when Tevez didnt come down to fetch the ball and disrupt his play.

This makes me think that Silva will be the real beneficiary of Tevez leaving and not Toure as the article suggests.

Bolton's defence is shithouse, not sure on Cahill.
Bale is poo fantasy wise, gets his occasional 10 but then will follow up with 5 2's.
          Gervinho's JS wouldnt be good.
Tiote gets yellows. Lots of them.

Same as Blackburn's (Samba at same price), but still Bolton had lower concede rate last season.

IMO Bale would be the at highest assist score IF likes of Dofoe, Crouch, Pav, etc. took their chances when they can.

            What's JS? Starts?

I know, but it's the best option for midfield at 4.5m.

            P.S

            Sorry for my bad english.

    Given/Kenny

    Kompany/Bramble/Hughes/Alcaraz/Simpson

    Malouda/Silva/Moses/Taarabt/Formica

    Rooney/RVP/Johnson

How is that? Am i relying on "the big 4" too much? Defence seems a little weak. Also unsure on Johnson, could possibly change to Holt/Graham.

    Any suggestions?

At the moment I just have no confidence in anyone up front except for RVP.

    Drogba - Rotation Risk
    Bent - Patchy Villa Form
    Carrol - Dire Liverpool Form
    Suarez - Might not start
Aguero - Might not start/Unproven/Tevez still not gone
Zamora - Was not convinced after last night's performance.

Seems like a bit of a lottery this season!

huge lols at the mirror story and sturridge.

talking of suspensions i've read RVP is suspended for the first leg of arsenal's champions league qualifier which is awful for arsenal but good for FPL with quite a few games in a short space of time in the first few weeks for arsenal.

the defensive position talk has come from a comment from villas-boas saying "frank did well in the holding role and its nice to know he can play there if needed"

he also said frank is one of the top players in the world in his usual position.

i dont see him being deployed def.mid from the start especially with ramires and mikel around

Not many RMTs are similar anyway. People keep saying they are, but what they mean is there's a group of players that get picked everytime. That's different to each team being the same.

Of course a lot of the same players are going to be picked.

Agreed, my heart bleeds for the players out of work because they won't want to be paid less than 40k A WEEK!

That is more than most people hope to earn in a year, and the poor sods who have almost nothing, but can scrounge a few quid together to go watch their teams are the ones bankrolling their salaries (and russian oil barons...)
