King Kenny to talk it over with Suarez before deciding if his main man starts. Dempsey returns to the Fulham fold as Senderos stakes a claim for centre-half. Norwich deny Holt to Leicester stories. Reports claim Torres will start the season on the bench and Arsenal reject a fresh Barcelona bid for Cesc Fabregas just this morning. Here’s today’s Scribbles:

Kenny Dalglish will decide on whether to start Luis Suarez next week after discussions with the player himself. Suarez reports for training in a few days time but, wary of the forward’s exertions in this summer’s Copa America, the Liverpool boss clearly does not want to over extend his star man:

He’ll be back next week some time. We’ll start thinking about him then. We’ll just see with Luis when he comes in. He’s had a fantastic summer. He should be pretty happy with himself and pretty confident looking forward to the start of the season.

We need to be careful with every player. So we’ll see how he is when he comes in and have a discussion with him. We can’t predict how he is going to be like.

Clint Dempsey made his first Fulham start under Martin Jol last night in the club’s Europa League match with RNK Split . Back after playing in the Gold Cup this summer, the American took the place of Matthew Briggs on the left of midfield. Jol also benched Chris Baird, moving Aaron Hughes to right-back and giving Philipe Senderos a chance to partner Brede Hangeland in the heart of defence.

The Hangeland-Hughes partnership central defensive pairing has offered plenty solidity in Fantasy terms over the past couple of seasons, though with Jol just through the “In†door, it’s perhaps too early to read deeply into last night’s XI. If Senderos is offered regular starts under Jol, however, a starting price of 4.5 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) will surely tempt more than a few Fantasy managers.

Norwich have moved to deny stories suggesting Grant Holt is on his way to Leicester. Speculation arose yesterday that suggested the forward was set to join the Sven Goran Eriksson revolution but the Canaries have issued a statement saying:

“There is absolutely no truth at all in the stories saying we have accepted a bid for Grant Holt. Our captain is simply not for sale.”

Reports have surfaced this morning concerning Andre Villas-Boas’ first XI thoughts ahead of next weekend’s game at Stoke. Fernando Torres is set to be benched for the match at the Britannia, with Didier Drogba leading the line, flanked by Florent Malouda and, according to the Mirror, Daniel Sturridge. Sturridge is, of course, suspended for the first three games of the upcoming season, so the speculation is probably unfounded.

Darren Fletcher has taken part in his first training session since the end of last season. The midfielder has struggled to shake off the effects of a virus that sidelined him for a few months in 2010/11 and although he won’t be ready for first-team action just yet, his return will be a major boost for Sir Alex Ferguson.

Jonathan Woodgate played the full 90 minutes in Stoke’s Europa League match with Hajduk Split last night. Signed as a free agent after his contract at Spurs ran out, Woodgate comes in at 4.5 in FPL and if (big if, perhaps) he can stay injury-free, Woodgate could be something of a bargain next season, with Robert Huth at 6.0 and Ryan Shawcross at 5.0 in comparison.

Ah, the Cesc Fabregas to Barcelona saga. Reports this morning suggest the Spanish champions have had a new bid rejected by the Gunners. Arsenal are reportedly holding out for £40m and won’t budge on this one. Arsene Wenger will be hoping this deal comes to fruition one way or another soon- the nightmare scenario for Arsenal would be a final-day transfer away from the Emirates for Fabregas, giving the Gunners plenty cash but no time to spend it.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

I still won't want him at any of those clubs.

      Sunderland - rather have Sessegnon

      Bolton - fixtures are rubbish

Wigan - rubbish team and I already have Moses 🙂

All that coupled with the fact I don't think SWP is very good.

      Reasons to get him

      1) Wigan's fixtures are good, especially opening 3

      2) N'Zog has gone, which should see him get forward more and more

      3) Had a good pre-season and has scored a few goals

      BUT

It will probably be a bandwagon that will flop, after all, it is Wigan. Then again, that's why bandwagons are fun 🙂

I'd rather have a 5m mid that will play every game and be a centrepoint of activity than a 4.5m mid that doesn't play.

even if he does spend a lot of time on the bench.

Not likely... Wigan are not a good club and NZogbia was just a class act for them. He was valued previously at 5.5 for a reason and he played well as he hogged the ball

Do yours rival mine? Fist i smear the pan with butter. Then i crack in the egss and add some milk. Turn up the heat, and fold, not stir, but fold! I call it a scromlete. It's not quite an omelette and not quite scrambled egg. Divine.

Very similar. I use a big chunk of butter, and cook slowly in a saucepan, stirring gently with a flexi-spatula.

I add creme fraich at the end, as it stops them from continuing cooking and going rubbery.

Then on some granary toast, add the salt and pepper, and enjoy silky-smooth eggs.

I like that, but i prefer spreading philadelphia on toast and then adding the egg hot from the non stick saucepan. The heat of the eggs makes the philadelphia melt into the eggs. It also makes the toast go slightly soggy. The mother of all sandwiches. Consume at lunchtime while watching a scorching episode of neighbours.

Nah, he's cheap enough to be bench material.

Remember, the bench isn't just for players that you don't want to play; they come on in unforseen circumstances.

For me, I'd ideally want a strong bench, but I need someone cheap, and hopefully who stands a chance of surrising me and rising in price rather than decreasing.

He's cheap though and I like to have at least one good option coming from the bench. He fits the bill. I don't think I'd prefer to replace any of my other players with him if they can play. Maybe he'll take N'Zogbia's place for the first week if he's unfit...

by definition, every team hre will be pretty generic, because of the obvious (fixtures and form), and the fact that we spend so much time discussing finer points of different players and generally coming to conclusions.

Then when someone asks for a RMT, thos opinions are weighed up against their team, and streamlined into more-or-less the same team that everyone here agrees on.

The teams are generic neccessarily, because the opinions here are.

Because if you are in a head to head league then its good to have some differential so you can win and not be level with everyone else

actually even in a classic league it works as the one "different" player you have gone for can make the difference in a particular GW

Still, you're extremely unlikely to have exactly the same players as someone else in your league even with a supposedly generic team.

Differentials are second-half of the season concerns, imo.

The trick in the first half is to *be* generic ... as that will mean you'll not be far behind others point-wise and you'll be more likely to accrue value.

    Schwarzer/Westwood
Bardsley/Kompany/Wilkinson/Givet/Jose Enrique (will choose Gibbs, I think, if he doesn't make a move)
    Yaya/Dempsey/Albrighton/Moses/Taarabt

Granted there are a few obvious picks in there (Kompany, Taarabt, Moses, Zamora) and none of the names are outrageous (which is what I'm going for) - but as a combination its pretty different to the standard RMT, at least as far as I read them (doesn't necessarily mean good though :P)

Think ill just stick with cole or terry then. Think they’re the only two that are realistically going to start 30+ games. I make the same mistake every season trying to get a cheap Chelsea defender and it always comes back to bite me in the ass as they always get rotated and seem to always miss the games when they keep clean sheets.

Simpson - definite starter. Didn't get many attacking returns last season

Orr - Apparently he will be a regular starter and is the most likely for attacking potential, according to 2 QPR fans on here (forget which)

          Gabbidon - no idea

          Taylor - which one?

We are now asking the preferred buyer to hand over cash before the sale goes through so we can pay wages at the end of this month. I was under the impression it had to be sorted before the start of the season (TOMORROW!).

Can't quite grasp why Lampard is appearing in so many RMTs - 12mil is such an expensive price. Fair enough if you're looking for some guaranteed Chelsea coverage after gwk1, but after last season I think it's clear his impact is starting to decline. Granted, he should stay on Pens and most set pieces, but other than I can't see the attraction. Would much rather splash the cash on Rooney and RVP.

True. Though he's still appeared in quite a few teams on here. Can't see many midfielders having as big of an impact this season as Nani, Adam, Malouda etc last season - too many rotation risks (except maybe VDV, but even he got subbed off pretty much every game). I'll be plowing money into my forwards 🙂

I think at this point in the season there isnt anyone who have firmly cemented a place in the side for a lot of the bigger clubs due to summer spending. Chelsea, Man U, City, Liverpool and Arsenal midfields have a possibility of various combinations. Lampard is a sure starter and a big hitter in terms of points so a safe if expensive bet. I think Rooney and RVP are better personally and once players like Malouda, Nani, Walcott etc get regular game time and perform they may be better value for the points and it will be easier for teams to get them in without feeling like their money is wasted

Plays on Chels - likely a top-3 team this year.

          Nailed to start.

          Free kicks and penalties.

No one knows BP allocation this year, but at the center of the Chel team, he is a good candidate.

Not necessarily. And you can't say that Lampard is as influential as he was, not even close.

              Your post = epic fail.

Had he played the season, it is entirely possible/probable that he would have been top scorer. Don't be a plonker.

And Lampard is, at latest information that either of us have, still a massive influence - if not *the* Director - of the Chels team.

If you don't want to pay 12, good enough. But stop throwing out certainties based on nothings to make yourself feel better about it.

Lampard is a proven points getter. Ok his day may finally be done. But in Fpl you need proven points getters. It's not about punts, risks or hopes.

        RMT:

        Given, Al Habsi
        Kompany, Hughes, Bardsely, Simpson, Orr
        Malouda, Sinclair, Taarabt, N'Zogbia, Moses
        Drogba, Rooney, Johnson

3M in the bank, plan on bringing in RVP for Drogba after the first few GW's and possible Suarez for Rooney, so i have at least 1.5M free so maybe improve one of my defense or just keep the money?

Id start with RVP, and upgrade defense, then is basically the same as mine. Already looks generic.

For value protection, you want players with a high selection % right?

The opposite really... if a player with a high percetage ownership has a really bad few games his value will drop like a stone if everyone sells.

Theoretically a player with no ownership shouldn't drop as people cannot transfer him out. But players with low ownership do drop in value as well. It's not an exact science.
