King Kenny to talk it over with Suarez before deciding if his main man starts. Dempsey returns to the Fulham fold as Senderos stakes a claim for centre-half. Norwich deny Holt to Leicester stories. Reports claim Torres will start the season on the bench and Arsenal reject a fresh Barcelona bid for Cesc Fabregas just this morning. Here’s today’s Scribbles:

Kenny Dalglish will decide on whether to start Luis Suarez next week after discussions with the player himself. Suarez reports for training in a few days time but, wary of the forward’s exertions in this summer’s Copa America, the Liverpool boss clearly does not want to over extend his star man:

He’ll be back next week some time. We’ll start thinking about him then. We’ll just see with Luis when he comes in. He’s had a fantastic summer. He should be pretty happy with himself and pretty confident looking forward to the start of the season.

We need to be careful with every player. So we’ll see how he is when he comes in and have a discussion with him. We can’t predict how he is going to be like.

Clint Dempsey made his first Fulham start under Martin Jol last night in the club’s Europa League match with RNK Split . Back after playing in the Gold Cup this summer, the American took the place of Matthew Briggs on the left of midfield. Jol also benched Chris Baird, moving Aaron Hughes to right-back and giving Philipe Senderos a chance to partner Brede Hangeland in the heart of defence.

The Hangeland-Hughes partnership central defensive pairing has offered plenty solidity in Fantasy terms over the past couple of seasons, though with Jol just through the “In†door, it’s perhaps too early to read deeply into last night’s XI. If Senderos is offered regular starts under Jol, however, a starting price of 4.5 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) will surely tempt more than a few Fantasy managers.

Norwich have moved to deny stories suggesting Grant Holt is on his way to Leicester. Speculation arose yesterday that suggested the forward was set to join the Sven Goran Eriksson revolution but the Canaries have issued a statement saying:

“There is absolutely no truth at all in the stories saying we have accepted a bid for Grant Holt. Our captain is simply not for sale.”

Reports have surfaced this morning concerning Andre Villas-Boas’ first XI thoughts ahead of next weekend’s game at Stoke. Fernando Torres is set to be benched for the match at the Britannia, with Didier Drogba leading the line, flanked by Florent Malouda and, according to the Mirror, Daniel Sturridge. Sturridge is, of course, suspended for the first three games of the upcoming season, so the speculation is probably unfounded.

Darren Fletcher has taken part in his first training session since the end of last season. The midfielder has struggled to shake off the effects of a virus that sidelined him for a few months in 2010/11 and although he won’t be ready for first-team action just yet, his return will be a major boost for Sir Alex Ferguson.

Jonathan Woodgate played the full 90 minutes in Stoke’s Europa League match with Hajduk Split last night. Signed as a free agent after his contract at Spurs ran out, Woodgate comes in at 4.5 in FPL and if (big if, perhaps) he can stay injury-free, Woodgate could be something of a bargain next season, with Robert Huth at 6.0 and Ryan Shawcross at 5.0 in comparison.

Ah, the Cesc Fabregas to Barcelona saga. Reports this morning suggest the Spanish champions have had a new bid rejected by the Gunners. Arsenal are reportedly holding out for £40m and won’t budge on this one. Arsene Wenger will be hoping this deal comes to fruition one way or another soon- the nightmare scenario for Arsenal would be a final-day transfer away from the Emirates for Fabregas, giving the Gunners plenty cash but no time to spend it.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that one of ferdinand and vidic will somehow get long lay off this season allowing smalling or jones to feature as I really can't see the two youngsters just warming the bench

Thats an absurd statement! Your saying due to the fact that new signings need gametime somehow a first team player will get injured?!!

It will prob be Ferdinand injured like last season anyway

They'll play fa cup, qualifiers etc. But Jones can fill in right back or infront of back four. Smalling will get league appearances if Rio gets broke. Again.

That's not going out on a limb, imo. Rio = slightly fit Ledley King. Smalling will get 15-20 games, assuming he doesn't Epic Fail in early days.

Can't see Jones getting regular starts yet ... unless SAF looks at him in a DM role, replacing Carrick. Maybe at RB, too. But these are largely determined by injuries.

Rio's days of starting 30+ games are looong over. Sadly.

Rafael and Fabio are hardly nailed on at RB. Jones has filled in admirably there during preseason. I wouldn't be surprised to see Jones play there, possibly even for the big games when a level head is needed.

          You're dreaming, imo.

Jones is good, but not ready for prime time. He was owned by Henry - yes, Henry's good. Good and old.

Raf and Fabs - at this point, before injuries or muck-ups - certainly do own the RB position.

Jones may indeed 'fill-in', when needed. But I don't see him as a defensive line starter for some time, all things being equal.

It would be pretty interesting but how is that going to help Torres? Surely he needs to get a couple of goals under his belt in the league. We all know on form he's one of the best forwards in the world, but his confidence is shot. Being on the bench can't help.

Notice how this guy takes a kick to the chest, then immidiately holds his face, then goes for the classic - oh my knee is hurt, then remembers he was kicked in the chest.

I had al habsi to start of with, coz I think he is the best for 4.5m. Then i had Kenny for rotation. Now I have Ruddy...

So who is the player that will score highest gw 1 that most of us won't have? last year it was Harewood if I'm not mistaken.(rotting on many benches)

I'm guessing someone like Formica or Eprahim.

    My team at the moment

    Given - Moriera

    Ivanovic - Kompany - Simpson - Gabbidon - Senderos

    Malouda - Silva - Ohara - Crofts - Moses

    Rvp - Rooney - Graham

    My Queries--
    1. would senderos be a regular in the starting line up of fulham?
    2. i took a punt on crofts of norwich..i think hoolhan wont be a great punt to take..i have 5.5 left and other options i thought was Thomas of west brom and Eagles of bolton but their fixtures arent that good to really consider them
    3. Is having ronney and Rvp overkill in ur team and imbalncing ur team??
    4. i dont have adequate cover for villa, fulham adn everton as their fixtures looks the best in opening few gamweeks..is it a wrong gamble??
Ne suggestions to improve the team is apprciated.

Could work well. However, i don't think you can have RVP. Rooney, Malouda and silva without having too many budget options. Maybe downgrade Silva to Yaya giving you 1.5 to upgrade Crofts.

I may downgrade one from rvp\rooney to saurez depending on his availabilty and then crofts to nzogbia with 1.0 in bank

After many changes and jumping on band wagons I've come up with this concoction of a team.

Pick apart as you all feel fit to and tell me how appaling it is

    Foster

    R.Johnson - Bardsley - De Laet

    Wilshere - Malouda - Adam - Pratley

Van Persie - Balotelli - Rooney

    Bogdan, Rangel, Orr, Ferguson

    1. Safety First
      • 15 Years
      14 years, 9 months ago

R Johnson may not be so good now part of Wolves defence.

Adam may not be so good now he's no longer a big fish in a small pond - and for £9m I can't see his value yet.

      Wilshere - undecided

Maybe a wee bit heavy on the forwards? I'd personally go for a 3rd striker who's more budget - Holt, Rodalegga, Zamora.

There's lot more I could go on about but short on time. For a fee though I'll give you a full breakdown 😉

I'm a sucker for Johnson (due to him being ex wycombe player)

And I guess this fee is not that small either 🙂

RJ was good for me last year - although he only came in when Dann got injured. I general favour picking the cheap playing members of decent defences. I just don't know whether the Wolves defence will give you enough clean sheets but he could be the star man every now and then.

At least you are mixing it up a bit. No-one knows for sure how things will pan out so I won't sit here and criticise. For another free bit of advice though I'd go for Given over Foster. Like Johnson, they were part of a strong defensive unit and whilst Foster will do well I full expect Given to do better. I may be wrong though.
