King Kenny to talk it over with Suarez before deciding if his main man starts. Dempsey returns to the Fulham fold as Senderos stakes a claim for centre-half. Norwich deny Holt to Leicester stories. Reports claim Torres will start the season on the bench and Arsenal reject a fresh Barcelona bid for Cesc Fabregas just this morning. Here’s today’s Scribbles:

Kenny Dalglish will decide on whether to start Luis Suarez next week after discussions with the player himself. Suarez reports for training in a few days time but, wary of the forward’s exertions in this summer’s Copa America, the Liverpool boss clearly does not want to over extend his star man:

He’ll be back next week some time. We’ll start thinking about him then. We’ll just see with Luis when he comes in. He’s had a fantastic summer. He should be pretty happy with himself and pretty confident looking forward to the start of the season.

We need to be careful with every player. So we’ll see how he is when he comes in and have a discussion with him. We can’t predict how he is going to be like.

Clint Dempsey made his first Fulham start under Martin Jol last night in the club’s Europa League match with RNK Split . Back after playing in the Gold Cup this summer, the American took the place of Matthew Briggs on the left of midfield. Jol also benched Chris Baird, moving Aaron Hughes to right-back and giving Philipe Senderos a chance to partner Brede Hangeland in the heart of defence.

The Hangeland-Hughes partnership central defensive pairing has offered plenty solidity in Fantasy terms over the past couple of seasons, though with Jol just through the “In” door, it’s perhaps too early to read deeply into last night’s XI. If Senderos is offered regular starts under Jol, however, a starting price of 4.5 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) will surely tempt more than a few Fantasy managers.

Norwich have moved to deny stories suggesting Grant Holt is on his way to Leicester. Speculation arose yesterday that suggested the forward was set to join the Sven Goran Eriksson revolution but the Canaries have issued a statement saying:

“There is absolutely no truth at all in the stories saying we have accepted a bid for Grant Holt. Our captain is simply not for sale.”

Reports have surfaced this morning concerning Andre Villas-Boas’ first XI thoughts ahead of next weekend’s game at Stoke. Fernando Torres is set to be benched for the match at the Britannia, with Didier Drogba leading the line, flanked by Florent Malouda and, according to the Mirror, Daniel Sturridge. Sturridge is, of course, suspended for the first three games of the upcoming season, so the speculation is probably unfounded.

Darren Fletcher has taken part in his first training session since the end of last season. The midfielder has struggled to shake off the effects of a virus that sidelined him for a few months in 2010/11 and although he won’t be ready for first-team action just yet, his return will be a major boost for Sir Alex Ferguson.

Jonathan Woodgate played the full 90 minutes in Stoke’s Europa League match with Hajduk Split last night. Signed as a free agent after his contract at Spurs ran out, Woodgate comes in at 4.5 in FPL and if (big if, perhaps) he can stay injury-free, Woodgate could be something of a bargain next season, with Robert Huth at 6.0 and Ryan Shawcross at 5.0 in comparison.

Ah, the Cesc Fabregas to Barcelona saga. Reports this morning suggest the Spanish champions have had a new bid rejected by the Gunners. Arsenal are reportedly holding out for £40m and won’t budge on this one. Arsene Wenger will be hoping this deal comes to fruition one way or another soon- the nightmare scenario for Arsenal would be a final-day transfer away from the Emirates for Fabregas, giving the Gunners plenty cash but no time to spend it.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

I know that there is a "chance" that Malouda could end up being a rotation risk but I seriously dont see it happening. As far mids and strikers go, I'd say that after Lamps that he is the most likely to have a nailed on spot.

As for Sinclair and Ohara, there both a risk but if I had to choose I'd go with Sinclair just because he will be a BP magnet. I personally dont have either of them. I went with the lower option of Moses at 5.0 and then upgrade my other mid to Albrighton at 6.5.

      sinclair

      (1) D murphy is playing in a very deep role
      (2) Is Murphy guaranteed to be on penos?
      (3) Murphy is past his best and a bit injury prone

      (4) Sinclair takes both free kicks and penos
      (5) Is an attacking winger as opposed to Murphy's holding position
      (6) Sinclair scored 19 goals last season, Murphy scored none

Of course the FPl tie-in will have some knock-on effect, but I think you're right and that it's largely a result of the time:

At this point, the RMTs and the league not started means that a lot of the 'quality' posters are lurking or off enjoying their lives (imagine!)

I expect/hope that things will return to normal-ish once week 1 opens.

QPR, WBA, bol, SUN is actually quite bad in my opinion.

QPR and WBA are likely to score as they are attacking teams away from home.
bol is an away game so unlikely to be a CS either.

SUN could go either way - don't trust their offence to predict accurately

I think you need to factor both who they play for and who they're against in determining rotations.

Norwich ship goals for fun (58 goals last season in the Championship - QPR only 32), so teams are likely to attack them - especially known attacking teams like QPR and WBA (that said QPR didn't score against Norwich last season [0-0 and 1-0]).

But I'm working with averages here.

Although I did like his strikers, he lost me at Albrighton. One of the few people to enlist Gervinho. I was thinking about starting RvP and Gervinho, on a scale of FFL crazy I rate it at a 6 out of 10 crazy. But something about this team, or lack of quality (scoring) midfielders makes me want to just pretend that he is a midfielder just for my team purposes, or until everyone pulls their collective heads out of Cesc's arse.

        It would be Rooney-RVP-Gervinho

From previous page - you were talking about 2 teams to rotate (for your 2x3 strategy):

Fulham / Sunderland - match well by my analysis

            Schwarzer / Westwood
            Hughes, (Salcido???) / O’Shea, Bramble

            Total cost: 29m

Not sure if that’s cheap enough for you though.

oh n later in season its easier as your value is higher so u can upgrade the teams, end of last season i had foster/johnson/carr and begovic/huth/shawcross

I like the concept of the strategy.

                Atm I'm going with:
                Schwarzer/Westwood
                Kompany/Agger/Givet/Wilkinson/Bardsley

Kompany/Agger are definite starters at good value, and I'll be able to pick one of the other 3 each week for the first 10 GWs.

How far forward do you think you should plan before considering WC's etc?

    Barsley - RB
    Brown - CD

O'Shea will fill it out when healthy. Until then, Turner and Ferdiand fight it out for the last spot, with Richardson a strong possibility at LB to start.

when you are not "sure" 3 strikers will get points i.e score then dont have 3.. if they all perform then you will have a great week. Usually the team of the week has got 3 strikers but the issue is consistency and that comes with more mid or def formations

I'm not against people disagreeing with my views, but when their reasons are retarded then I know they aren't likely to add value.

the wisdom gained at the end of the season about playing a 532 formation and how much better value points could be obtained from high scoring defenders than attackers goes out the window by preseason.. you get the bargain potential players and splash the cash on Aguero Rooney and co and its back to square one

Should FPL allow more variety with the squad so you could have:

    2 Keepers

    etc..

but still have to field a formation allowed by the game.

I was really hoping for a 'floating sub' ... a player that could be def/mid/fwd, such that you could have 4 forwards on the squad for example. Formation rules would still apply, but allow for more permutations/rotations.

Alas, no. They opted for a new color scheme. 🙄

Right now, you have four subs. Players are:

          GK: 2
          Def: 5
          Mid: 5
          For: 3

I would love the option of a sub that would allow me the pick of 4 forwards at the expense of only having 4 defenders on the squad. Your playing formation would have to still comply with present rules (no 2-4-4 formation).

          That make any sense?

Any chelskies here? In that case, please tell me what you guys think about Kalou and Benayoun, who will start the season and get 70+ minutes at the first games?

And if Scott Parker comes to Stamford, will he be in starting XI?

Not a fan but Id say Mal, Drogba and Kalou to start. Then 3 of Mceachran, Mikel, Lamps and Benayoun in middle.

If Scott Parker comes back to the Bridge, we'll be relagated. Kalou shouldn't start, and if we dont sign a playmaker Benayoun will start most games. I dont think Scott Parker is the kind of player we want to sign, and I think AVB has no intention of getting him on loan or for good.

I agree, he's probably trying to deal Kalou as we speak. I don't think AVB has much faith in Drogs, but he's no dummy. Not to mention African Cup this year. Isn't Mceachran fighting to bet Mikel out for a spot. Yet I see him playing advanced in Ramires spot behind Malouda on the left doing all the work for Fat Frank...

Did anyone else lose their mini league because they picked up Kolarov instead of Lescott at the end of the season for Man City's doubles??? That, and Hangeland killed me the last two weeks 🙁

Can I ask a question here relating to defence rotation?

I currently have Given permanently in goal (villa) and have Baines playing every week.

The other 2 spots can be taken by Cole, Kompany or Bardsley. Can someone tell me how they rotate? The information I have suggests that they do rotate well for difficult games, but it's not specific.

    It comes back to this:
In case you missed it, I’ve done a provisional keeper combo analysis. It’s based on avoiding situations where either keeper is up against MUN, CHE, MCY, ARS, LIV, TOT home or away and EVE or AVL away.

Look at it as suggests for compatible 2nd choice keeper alternatives for keepers from each team.

    ie:
    Keeper 1:Keeper 2/Alternative Keeper 2

    AVL:WBA
    BLA:STK
    BOL:CHE
    EVE:FUL/WIG
    FUL:EVE/QPR/ARS
    NEW:ARS/BOL
    NOR:WOL/CHE
    QPR:FUL/BOL
    STK:BLA/LIV/ARS
SUN:TOT/CHE <--------------------- Sunderland rotate with Chelsea
    SWA:MCY/TOT/MUN/ARS
    TOT:SUN/SWA/NEW/QPR/MCY
    WBA:AVL
    WIG:WBA
    WOL:AVL/TOT/SUN

Or if you’re going for a big budget keeper:
    ARS:NEW/FUL/SWA
CHE:BOL/MCY <--------------------- Chelsea rotate with City (but not Sunderland?)
    LIV:STK
MCY:SWA/TOT <--------------------- Rotate with these two - but not Chelsea?
    MUN:SWA/WIG

Far to complicated for me! 😛
Why would you play Baines every week and not Cole who plays for a much better team? I would Play Cole, Kompany and Baines every week if I had forked out that much for them.

The rotations vary and there is not much for the first 4 gameweeks if I remember. However after that for the next at least 7 gameweeks teams rotate very well e.g fulham and liverpool and wba and mun

you would have to go through the gameweeks and see unless doosra is online and can post his spreadsheet on it

Take One only of Baines Or Cole...
If u take both it will be heavy....and can't get much on mids and forward.
Kompany will be fix for 5-6 gws mostly....
The issue only is with 3rd def spot
      Sun/New/Qpr Rotates well.

Well you don't need to rotate Kompany... or Cole...

But looking at my spreadsheets (based on probability of clean sheet) you would drop them as follows over the first 10 GWs:

      B, K, K, C, C, B, C, B, K, C

But you're always looking at marginal differences there, and generally always having 3 good fixtures

The new BP system has got me thinking that teams will be better off with more 'game winners'. Set pieces and attacking players. I think it favours the bigger teams who statistically dominate matches in terms of shots etc. Thoughts?

Well certainly goals are likely to be rewarded quite highly. I also think players like VDV are likely to have a good season which is broadly in line with your thinking.

I also think that as always at this time of year people are reading a little too much into fixtures (for obvious reasons though!) . To use the same player as an example again i think that the likes of VDV etc and above are largely fixture proof.
