The second instalment in our series of Members articles looking at Fantasy consistency sees defenders come under the microscope. Aiming to highlight those players who week-in, week-out offer solid returns, we’ve taken a larger sample size than the previous Goalkeepers article and analysed the top twelve in terms of points per game in 2010/11.

Although there are four Chelsea players here -in addition to two from Man City – the Blues defenders most definitely vary in average returns and consistency. Who’d have thought, after all, that Ashley Cole was the least reliable Fantasy pick of our featured quartet last season?

Close to finalising my team but not sure whether to go for a 12.0mil RVP/Rooney and consequently weaken the rest of my team or just go around the 10.0 mark and bolster my team. At the moment my midfield is set on stone as Malouda, Nani, Moses, Taarabt, Sessegnon so it's more a case of balancing the attack/defence.

A) Rooney/RVP, Carroll, Wes Brown
B) Rooney/RVP, Gervinho, Jagielka
C) Carroll, Bent, A. Cole

(rest of defence is Kompany, Hughes, Gabbidon, S Taylor & third striker is AJ/DJ)

    Ivanovic is a great player. Didn't score much less than Cole last year and was the PFA right back of the year a couple of years ago and is far more solid defensively than bosingwa. My thoughts on the Chelsea back four would be:

    Your forward are your weakness in a solid side. Drog is a rotation risk, roda is good for 3 weeks but should drip after that and holt is a good budget pick.
    
    I would consIder:
    
    Hangeland to Hughes
    
    Drogba to RVP/Rooney

1) Ivanovic n luiz r doubts so alex should start

2) Anelka n malouda should start either side of drogba/torres

3) I think gervinho will play even if RVP is fit,

  Negative, sorry buddy buys it's not all about GW1.
  
  GKs are shocking, even if Wigan play the promoted teams in the first three weeks they will get lucky to get 1 CS. Same goes for Alcaraz. Swap alcara for Bramble. Still not sure about Alex. I think ivan, Cole and terry are locked.
  
  Mids are good, I like them all.
  
  Anelka is a decent punt, could work but I'm skeptical. At least sturridge is out for 3. Gervinho also a Punt considering their fixtures. You may get lucky and smash GW1 but you will be struggling after that.

  RvP will play GW1 guaranteed, but Gerv should also but RVP is on Spot kick duties. Anelka should play. I can't see who would play on the right flank. I wouldn't piss on kalou and sturridge is out.

Nani - Silva(c) - Moses - Benayoun - (Sessegnon)

Suarez - Gervinho - Zamora

1m in bank

Planning on going Bosingwa -> Luiz when he is available

Given and Kenny rotate well, as do Givet and Wilkinson for when Jagielka is not playing or has a tough fixture.

Can take a stance on moses after his first few easy games, and Sessegnon can be swapped out for Taarabt (or another 6.5m) later on depending on who is playing best.

Gervinho will be a nailed on starter imo, especially with the knock to RVP but again can be moved around depending on the form players later on =]

Bosingwa is a risk I wouldn't be willing to take. Is not a guaranteed starter and I wouldnt think he will play GW1. Givet and jags are unique picks that may pay off but aren't highly thought off yet in FPL.

Unsure on whether Suarez, benayoun and Gervinho will be starters GW1 but will all be solid picks if they do.
