The second instalment in our series of Members articles looking at Fantasy consistency sees defenders come under the microscope. Aiming to highlight those players who week-in, week-out offer solid returns, we’ve taken a larger sample size than the previous Goalkeepers article and analysed the top twelve in terms of points per game in 2010/11.

Although there are four Chelsea players here -in addition to two from Man City – the Blues defenders most definitely vary in average returns and consistency. Who’d have thought, after all, that Ashley Cole was the least reliable Fantasy pick of our featured quartet last season?

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

I was having a daydream about FF earlier and was thinking about the relative merits of Baines/A Cole

    Cole-stronger def than Everton
    Baines-pens/freekicks

    Both attacking fullbacks similar fixtures

Is Baines worth the extra cash? I didnt get him at all last yr-logic being if there are no pens or Arteta comes back he simply isnt worth it.

    I currently have Baines…Any thoughts?

In the same situ. Maybe im being blinded by bias, but i think Baines is capable of even more assists this year, especially now that Cahill & Saha are actually fit

you didnt have Baines at all last year? he was one of my best players. all those pens and assists were weekend presents.

he's fully priced now though and would need to repeat some of that to show any value

Yeah, I know, did ok for first half of year but had a mental busy second half of year and didnt half a lot of time for it!

Plus I just didnt think he would keep it up

Agreed about this yr needing to hit the ground running, thus wondering!

I think the dream 3 at the back is Komp, Baines & cole. I like your midfield too, although id prob look to upgrade Brunt before Moses if downgrading Baines, but thats just me! The team is 1 of the better ones to be posted, especially as you still have a potent strikeforce for the opening games

He didn't really flop at Spurs, I think most of the coaching staff and management knew how good he was, but he's the kind of player you have to build the team around as well as expect his team-mates to support him going large spells of the game not doing much. It'll be interesting how he does in the PL. He could get marked out of games quite easily or be utterly brilliant.

I've tried to create a forward and mid that isn't your standard RMT team. Any comments please:

NZog, Moses, Malouda, Downing & Lampard
    Bent, Campbell, Holt
    2.0m in the bank

Tempted to downgrade Downing to Taarabt so I have enough cash for Campbell to Suarez in GW2. But that gives me 3 QPR players far too many.

Know this is very basic logic and may not pan out, but simply looking at last years points, MF's scored higher than any other position and by quite a bit, so is it logical to have 5 good solid MF picks and to play all 5 as often as possible? I'm planning on a 3-5-2 formation week 1 for sure....

    Any thoughts?

no secret formation recipe... you need points from all areas

play 5 mids but u cant spend 8 mill plus on each as ur defence and forwards will bomb and u wont do good

u need a good squad imo otherwise too many transfers will be needed

I think I've got it sorted, but by Almighty Zeus I do not like my defence. Urgh, but its an experiment, if a slightly risky one.
I will have a little moan though, why couldn't they make the likes of Cabaye 5.5 or under? It seems too often they played it safe and gave a blanket 6m. Annoying. Very very very few obvious bargains, like last seasons Andy Carroll.

Indeed, desperate for a striker and Woy loves 442 although I feel for him having to pick our midfield if he does go ahead with 442. He is a gamble, but apparently he has shone for Ireland in internationals so maybe he isn't as big gamble as some are making out.
