Wesley Sneijder admits to United talks, however unofficial. Marouanne Chamakh reckons Fabregas and Nasri are heading out the Emirates. Harry Redknapp turns to Real Madrid as he eyes up an old acquaintance. Wolves to assess Kevin Doyle’s fitness. Stoke sign yet another centre-half and Roy Hodgson’s thrilled to bits with Shane Long. Here’s this morning’s Scribbles, folks:

Wesley Sneijder admitted yesterday that he’s been in contact with Man United over a potential move to Old Trafford this summer. The Dutchman has been strongly linked with a move to the champions but with Inter looking for a deal rumoured to be in the region of £35m, there’s been little progress up to now. When asked if fancied a move to Sir Alex Ferguson’s side, Sneijder replied:

“Yes but Manchester United haven’t made an official approach yet. There have been unofficial talks, there have been contacts but then there are always contacts. I have contacts with everybody.”

Spurs are rumoured to be eyeing up a move for Real Madrid’s Lassana Diarra. The former Arsenal player is unwanted at the Bernabeu and has already been signed by Harry Redknapp before- the Tottenham gaffer brought Diarra to Portsmouth during his tenure at Fratton Park. With Steven Pienaar ruled out for six weeks with a groin injury this week, Redknapp is on the lookout for midfield reinforcements.

Wolves are to reassess the fitness of Kevin Doyle after the striker was sent home from the Republic of Ireland squad. The forward played just less than an hour in Wolves’ recent win over Real Zaragoza but his international manager Giovanni Trapatonni has stated the player is “not 100% fit”. With the season about to kick off, the last thing Mick McCarthy needs is his star forward back on the sidelines once again.

Arsene Wenger has named both Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri in Arsenal’s Champions League squad for the play-off with Udinese. If either player takes part, they would be unable to participate in the competition for any other club in 2011/12. Gunners forward Marouanne Chamakh has had his say on the matter, and it seems even the feeling within the dressing room is one of resignation over the pair’s departure:

I think Cesc and Nasri will probably leave the club. I do not believe that the money available for these two players is really the crux of the problem. I just think the manager wants to find reliable replacements.

Stoke grabbed their second free transfer centre-half of the summer by acquiring Matthew Upson from West Ham yesterday. He joins Jonathan Woodgate at the Britannia, after the ex-Spurs’ player failed to have his contract renewed at White Hart Lane, and gives Tony Pulis an abundance of cover in the heart of defence. With the Potters playing in Europe this season, Pulis was keen to draft in extra defensive cover, he told the club’s official website:

We now have strength in depth in our defence with both Matthew and Jonathan on board and we’ve managed to achieve that without significant outlay on transfer fees, which is quite remarkable in today’s market of vastly-inflated prices.Their experience of performing at the highest level will be a valuable asset to us.

Robbie Keane is on the verge of a move away from Tottenham. The Irishman was farmed out on loan to West Ham in the second half of last season and is clearly not part of Harry Redknapp’s plans for the future. Keane said yesterday:

It’s probably likely that I will be going but I can’t really answer where to at the moment. There’s obviously a lot of speculation but there’s still a couple of weeks to go and we’ll see what happens. I haven’t turned down anything. I think there’s a few people talking to the clubs but that’s all I can really say at the moment.

Roy Hodgson was clearly delighted after snapping up Shane Long from Reading. The West Brom boss finally ended his summer pursuit of the forward by signing the Irishman on a three-year deal and in doing so, now feels his Baggies squad is close to completion. Hodgson said yesterday:

Shane is one of the most talented young strikers outside of the Premier League. He is a goalscorer and a hard-working player who has a very good attitude to the game. Many other clubs have shown an interest in Shane and it is great that we have managed to acquire his services.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Some French guy was suggesting that he was the best of the new imports. I think there is some good value in the NEW mid/for... but I would wait and have a look at them. Cabaye for instance, might be on Pens; depending on what Barton is doing... although I have a feeling Marveaux might be the high yield/risk option.

Don't forget the incredible attacking statistics that Demba Ba was putting in for Newcastle; over the period he was playing, his shots on goal and shots on target were as good as anybodies, and that was playing for a badly struggling team.

The kind of player who could flourish under the new bonus points system, I think: an unflashy, lead-the-line goalscorer.

Does anyone have any thoughts on Richard Dunne? He's had 3 30+ BP seasons and has scored the odd goal. Under the radar because Villa weren't so good last year but reports have been that he's back to being him again. Plus McLeish playing defensively might help and he strikes me as the type of person that the EA Sports system might like (purely a hunch though).

However, it's proving a stumbling block for me as I also really like Given, N'Zogbia and Bent but clearly I can't have 4 players from the same team. What do you think?

Why do you say that with such certainty? They play for the same team and goals for defenders are pretty random (relatively) and Dunne has the history of being dominant. I'm not saying that Dunne will definitely get more points but surely it's a matter of whether you think that he's back to his best or that Collins will turn into what Dunne used to be?

I have Dunne. I just like him better than Collins. Pretty much a 50-50 choice to be honest.

If you're struggling for the player limit I'd say get rid of either N'Zog or Bent, depending on who else you have there and what your defence looks like. I have Dunne and Given because I like the Villa/Stoke rotation.

Let me offer some thoughts on your team:

Dawson - Tot have tough fixtures to start, may lose value
Tiote - loves a yellow but I presume he'll be on your bench to start?
Vaughan - prefer othes at 5.5m or less (Moses, Hoolahan)
Rooney - you have Nani, why not consider RVP (if fit) or Carroll (then upgrade Dawson to Lescott/Kompany if you want?)
Bent - you have Nzog (see comment above)

One last thing, with 2 x 4mil defenders you may be stuck playing them if any of your primary back 3 get injured or head to Emirates or Old Trafford.

I like Terry over Cole (have the same), Malouda, Nani, Nzog are the path to early season returns and DJ Campbell is a proven EPL performer.
      Hope this helps, cheers

Could perhaps play a role on the wing. Would say with WBA's hard opening couple of fixtures it's worth seeing how it pans out before going for either.

To begin with, they'll probably both play with Odem out.

tchoyi is a very versatile player but mostly an attacking mid or right winger.
however even if he is to play with long and odem, its not gonna always happen, maybe at home only and as an impact sub

    "1055: BBC Monitoring

Libyan foreign ministry spokesman Khalid Ka'im has called on world governments to take action over the unrest in the UK. David Cameron has lost legitimacy and "must go", Libya's official news agency Jana reports. Libya "demands that the international community not stand with arms folded in the face of this gross aggression against the rights of the British people, who are demanding its right to rule its country", the report said."

Just like our leaders talking about Arab states,Afganistan etc, etc.

Just so profligate America can secure oil supplies.

We are no longer a world power, and should concentrate on our own debt, and pension provision. I fear by the time the pockets of politicians and the city of London are fully lined it will be far too late for the rest of us.

What is everyone going to do if the london fixtures are called off?

Suddenly you can't have AV, Fulham or QPR players, but they have an awesome start to the season fixture wise, so you would then want to bring them in the following GW or start with a very weak team in GW1?

Wes brown is potentially more nailed on than bramble as ferdinand and turner will be vying for the second CB slot after Oshea come back, but at RB Brown is safer and offers assists

        repetition is a comedic device....

Speaking of these two, who will have have a bigger impact in FPL terms this season?

Seriously who will score more points? I know nothing of these two as over here in the land of Oz we get next to nothing in regards to the Championship.
