Wesley Sneijder admits to United talks, however unofficial. Marouanne Chamakh reckons Fabregas and Nasri are heading out the Emirates. Harry Redknapp turns to Real Madrid as he eyes up an old acquaintance. Wolves to assess Kevin Doyle’s fitness. Stoke sign yet another centre-half and Roy Hodgson’s thrilled to bits with Shane Long. Here’s this morning’s Scribbles, folks:

Wesley Sneijder admitted yesterday that he’s been in contact with Man United over a potential move to Old Trafford this summer. The Dutchman has been strongly linked with a move to the champions but with Inter looking for a deal rumoured to be in the region of £35m, there’s been little progress up to now. When asked if fancied a move to Sir Alex Ferguson’s side, Sneijder replied:

“Yes but Manchester United haven’t made an official approach yet. There have been unofficial talks, there have been contacts but then there are always contacts. I have contacts with everybody.”

Spurs are rumoured to be eyeing up a move for Real Madrid’s Lassana Diarra. The former Arsenal player is unwanted at the Bernabeu and has already been signed by Harry Redknapp before- the Tottenham gaffer brought Diarra to Portsmouth during his tenure at Fratton Park. With Steven Pienaar ruled out for six weeks with a groin injury this week, Redknapp is on the lookout for midfield reinforcements.

Wolves are to reassess the fitness of Kevin Doyle after the striker was sent home from the Republic of Ireland squad. The forward played just less than an hour in Wolves’ recent win over Real Zaragoza but his international manager Giovanni Trapatonni has stated the player is “not 100% fit”. With the season about to kick off, the last thing Mick McCarthy needs is his star forward back on the sidelines once again.

Arsene Wenger has named both Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri in Arsenal’s Champions League squad for the play-off with Udinese. If either player takes part, they would be unable to participate in the competition for any other club in 2011/12. Gunners forward Marouanne Chamakh has had his say on the matter, and it seems even the feeling within the dressing room is one of resignation over the pair’s departure:

I think Cesc and Nasri will probably leave the club. I do not believe that the money available for these two players is really the crux of the problem. I just think the manager wants to find reliable replacements.

Stoke grabbed their second free transfer centre-half of the summer by acquiring Matthew Upson from West Ham yesterday. He joins Jonathan Woodgate at the Britannia, after the ex-Spurs’ player failed to have his contract renewed at White Hart Lane, and gives Tony Pulis an abundance of cover in the heart of defence. With the Potters playing in Europe this season, Pulis was keen to draft in extra defensive cover, he told the club’s official website:

We now have strength in depth in our defence with both Matthew and Jonathan on board and we’ve managed to achieve that without significant outlay on transfer fees, which is quite remarkable in today’s market of vastly-inflated prices.Their experience of performing at the highest level will be a valuable asset to us.

Robbie Keane is on the verge of a move away from Tottenham. The Irishman was farmed out on loan to West Ham in the second half of last season and is clearly not part of Harry Redknapp’s plans for the future. Keane said yesterday:

It’s probably likely that I will be going but I can’t really answer where to at the moment. There’s obviously a lot of speculation but there’s still a couple of weeks to go and we’ll see what happens. I haven’t turned down anything. I think there’s a few people talking to the clubs but that’s all I can really say at the moment.

Roy Hodgson was clearly delighted after snapping up Shane Long from Reading. The West Brom boss finally ended his summer pursuit of the forward by signing the Irishman on a three-year deal and in doing so, now feels his Baggies squad is close to completion. Hodgson said yesterday:

Shane is one of the most talented young strikers outside of the Premier League. He is a goalscorer and a hard-working player who has a very good attitude to the game. Many other clubs have shown an interest in Shane and it is great that we have managed to acquire his services.

    Currently have
    Given/Ruddy
    Orr/Cole/Kompany/Enrique/Bardlsey
    O'Hara/Moses/Brunt/N'Zogbia/Nani
    Rooney/Zamora/Carroll

Still unsure on the defense and was playing around with the idea of
    Simpson/Cole/Kompany/Hughes/Bardsley
    Or Orr/Baines/Lescott/Simpson/Bardsley

Also was unsure whether to go with
    Nani/Carroll
    or
    Malouda/Suarez
But I guess that all depends on fitness!

If London games do get postponed I'll probably change to something like
N'Zogbia/Carroll/Zamora -> Silva/Holt/Suarez and just leave in Given and orr...

RVP is still unsure and Arsenals starting fixtures aren't the nicest(Then again, neither are Uniteds...), so you might want to downgrade RVP then you can replace Moses/Rodellaga with someone a bit better (Moses if you want to beef up the midfield?) However doing this means you might not be able to upgrade back to RVP if he does kick of the season like he ended last....

wilkinson not guaranteed starts, at all, so might want to get orr instead
rvp is injured, doubtful to be optimistic
and if i were u and because i like to have 15 players starting at the start of the season, id do ferguson>> 4.5 midfielder who starts and downgrade cole to ivanovic
and too much investment in wigan moses/roda, so keep in mind to ship at least 1 of them out after GW3

other than that its fine. good luck

Nani and N'Zogbia, means you don't double up in midfield on United especially in a situation where you have two 10mil signings that will be rotated when Valencia is back, also frees up money to spend elsewhere

Scored a load of goals last season for Watford.
He got a goal in the Swans final pre-season game. But apart from that he hasn't looked that sharp.
He's a dead cert to start, but I wouldn't put him in for GW1.

Sorry if this has been discussed many times already, comment further up the page hints on this topic,

But, as things stand currently, is it just the London based games which have been labelled potentially cancelled.

These chavs are currently kicking in pawnbrokers for a Ps3 and a pair of Nikes, but take away the weekends football and they will probably strap bombs to themselves.

I don't understand the Malouda love and to a lesser extent, the Silva love.

Malouda is hit and miss...usually miss...is not 100% guaranteed a start (although likely) and could well be a candidate to be subbed after 70mins with all the attacking talent that Chelsea have in the squad. Obviously some Chelsea attacking coverage is almost a neccesity but I think Benayoun is worth taking a chance on as although he is at more of a risk of game time, he is £3.5m cheaper and is a much more consistant player who knows how to find the back of the net.

Silva is a bit more of a tough one, but with tricky away matches in gw 2 and 3, I'm going to forget City attacking coverage until gw 4 once it's a bit more clearer on who's starting and where. Will Tevez still be at the club playing? Where will Aguero fit in? What formation will be played? All these questions affect Silva and his potential point return and £9.5m on a player who doesn't score that many goals, with a new bonus pts system in place, I'm not interested just yet. The attacking City player I do have my eye on for gw 4, depending on how the season starts of course, is Johnson as think he will get a bit more game time this year and even though he will get less minutes than Silva, he's much more explosive.

Very good points, though I do have Silva...I can't resist having someone from City's attack in the opening game, and I don't mind seeing how things pan out with him actually in my team. Long term I'm almost certainly going to want someone, and it could well be him.

If there was an outstanding alternative I'd go for it, but there's doubts over VDV and with the United pair I already have Rooney for coverage. Could go for someone cheaper, but then to bring someone else in that range in in a few weeks it'd take a lot of changing.

Nasri to ManCity, interesting to see if Silva is rotated or played along side the French maestro. Another interesting transfer is Obertan to Newcastle. He is a player with a lot of potential and although it didn't work out for him at Manchester United I am sure he will hold down a first team place at his new club and at just 5.0 million he could be a bargain.

    Thoughts...
