Wesley Sneijder admits to United talks, however unofficial. Marouanne Chamakh reckons Fabregas and Nasri are heading out the Emirates. Harry Redknapp turns to Real Madrid as he eyes up an old acquaintance. Wolves to assess Kevin Doyle’s fitness. Stoke sign yet another centre-half and Roy Hodgson’s thrilled to bits with Shane Long. Here’s this morning’s Scribbles, folks:

Wesley Sneijder admitted yesterday that he’s been in contact with Man United over a potential move to Old Trafford this summer. The Dutchman has been strongly linked with a move to the champions but with Inter looking for a deal rumoured to be in the region of £35m, there’s been little progress up to now. When asked if fancied a move to Sir Alex Ferguson’s side, Sneijder replied:

“Yes but Manchester United haven’t made an official approach yet. There have been unofficial talks, there have been contacts but then there are always contacts. I have contacts with everybody.”

Spurs are rumoured to be eyeing up a move for Real Madrid’s Lassana Diarra. The former Arsenal player is unwanted at the Bernabeu and has already been signed by Harry Redknapp before- the Tottenham gaffer brought Diarra to Portsmouth during his tenure at Fratton Park. With Steven Pienaar ruled out for six weeks with a groin injury this week, Redknapp is on the lookout for midfield reinforcements.

Wolves are to reassess the fitness of Kevin Doyle after the striker was sent home from the Republic of Ireland squad. The forward played just less than an hour in Wolves’ recent win over Real Zaragoza but his international manager Giovanni Trapatonni has stated the player is “not 100% fitâ€. With the season about to kick off, the last thing Mick McCarthy needs is his star forward back on the sidelines once again.

Arsene Wenger has named both Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri in Arsenal’s Champions League squad for the play-off with Udinese. If either player takes part, they would be unable to participate in the competition for any other club in 2011/12. Gunners forward Marouanne Chamakh has had his say on the matter, and it seems even the feeling within the dressing room is one of resignation over the pair’s departure:

I think Cesc and Nasri will probably leave the club. I do not believe that the money available for these two players is really the crux of the problem. I just think the manager wants to find reliable replacements.

Stoke grabbed their second free transfer centre-half of the summer by acquiring Matthew Upson from West Ham yesterday. He joins Jonathan Woodgate at the Britannia, after the ex-Spurs’ player failed to have his contract renewed at White Hart Lane, and gives Tony Pulis an abundance of cover in the heart of defence. With the Potters playing in Europe this season, Pulis was keen to draft in extra defensive cover, he told the club’s official website:

We now have strength in depth in our defence with both Matthew and Jonathan on board and we’ve managed to achieve that without significant outlay on transfer fees, which is quite remarkable in today’s market of vastly-inflated prices.Their experience of performing at the highest level will be a valuable asset to us.

Robbie Keane is on the verge of a move away from Tottenham. The Irishman was farmed out on loan to West Ham in the second half of last season and is clearly not part of Harry Redknapp’s plans for the future. Keane said yesterday:

It’s probably likely that I will be going but I can’t really answer where to at the moment. There’s obviously a lot of speculation but there’s still a couple of weeks to go and we’ll see what happens. I haven’t turned down anything. I think there’s a few people talking to the clubs but that’s all I can really say at the moment.

Roy Hodgson was clearly delighted after snapping up Shane Long from Reading. The West Brom boss finally ended his summer pursuit of the forward by signing the Irishman on a three-year deal and in doing so, now feels his Baggies squad is close to completion. Hodgson said yesterday:

Shane is one of the most talented young strikers outside of the Premier League. He is a goalscorer and a hard-working player who has a very good attitude to the game. Many other clubs have shown an interest in Shane and it is great that we have managed to acquire his services.

Okay, pretty close to complete with my team.

    Given, Ruddy
    Baines, Lescott, Elokobi (Orr, Briggs)
    Nani, Silva, Taarabt, Moses (O'Hara)
    Holt, Carrol, Bent

    2.5 in bank

Couple of niggling things. Carrol or Rooney? And who to play out of O'Hara away to Blackburn and Taarbt at home to Bolton?

    Al Habsi (Ruddy)

A Cole Luiz Baines (Orr De Laet)

    Malouda Silva N’Zog Moses (Hoolahan)

    Bent Zamora Rodallega

              Luiz is out
Baines only has 1 home game until GW 4 (Tott could be off too?)
              Blk have two good homers
Swansea have two good homes gw 2 and 3

If I was doing the early WC tactic I would make a team of people who will likely increase in price massively and not just score points. That way you get even more money to save for later in the season so you can have a better overall team.

Not likely to be a very profitable strategy and chances are that you will find yourself on half a dozen bandwagons whose wheels fall off very quickly.

Even if you are lucky enough to find a few players whose value rises by 0.6m (bear in mind you will only have a few weeks in which to judge which ones will), you still only gain 0.3m from selling them while, if they are worth the price increase, will therefore not be worth selling.

So really you gain no additional finance, just the chance to gamble on players who will perform well over the season for their price. So no different from picking players based on value - which you can do now.

And don't get me started on how small a difference an extra 1m actually makes in this game - trust me, it's overrated.

By midseason my rivals are always complaining that somehow I can fit in 4 big hitters rather than their 3. It's because I actually pay attention to price rises and therefore make sure my squad is optimally increasing in value. It's a long term strategy but it does help by midseason. It's about looking out for bandwagons that will fall off and going for ones that will stick.

If I was doing the GW 3 tactic for example I would look out for Chelsea players. If Drogba plays the first game and scores, his price will skyrocket. If you have him already then you get that without costing a transfer. What I am saying is that if you get players that will not only do well but will also have bandwagons attached to them then you'll have lots of points and more cash at the end of the three gameweeks. That way when you wildcard you can then choose what is actually the best team and get rid of people that are just bandwagons.

It's not the be all and end all, just something to consider.

It's not often that we think of adding a defensive midfielder to a fantasy team, but what do you think of adding De Jong as a fifth midfielder? Would come on as an auto sub and potentially offer 3 points as an everyday starter and many opportunities for a clean sheet bonus point. He could be a value at 5.0.

That's quite good then. I suppose England will aim to get something like 300+.

I don't understand about putting them into bat though. Last match, when that final guy went out, one of the commentators was complaining that they should have put India into bat by now.

I can only assume he thought it would take longer than a few hours to bowl them out.

Can any QPR fan or knowledgeable chap tell me who is the best QPR midfield option for 4.5?

The pre-season guide says Ephraim is on form. He's banged in a few, but is he in Warnock's starting XI?

Had DJ Campbell and Surman, but someone made the point that Campbell might play on the left with Bothroyd about. Holt is a true target man, plus on pens, and is such a beast he could have a Carroll-like impact on the Premier League. Yes, DJ is proven but I think it's likely Holt will prove to be something better.

4 points - about the same as a striker gets for scoring a goal.

Man City kept 18 CS last season - so the equivalent of 18 goals, you can get access to this for 6.0/6.5 depending on who you buy.

Chelsea less of a CS score, but still cost less than a striker from the club.

Think of Benabandwagon - 7.0 for a Chelsea mid, do you honestly expect more than 18 goals/assists from him? Cole offers the CS plus some assists for 7.5.

I'm not saying you're wrong, I'm just explaining the logic.

    Agger, Distin and Yaya/N'Zog
    Dunne, Shawcross and Silva

Thoughts? Suddenly the Everton/Pool rotation is very appealling. In the first instance I'd bring Zog in for Yaya after week one. Only issue is it somewhat limits who else I can get in later, whereas if I have Silva there's room to switch to VDV/Nani if needs be. It's a long term decision regarding money invested in defence, basically.

Wouldn't strictly stick to it, just means one would always have a good fixture. I have Taylor and Brown to rotate properly, then it'd be two of Kompany/Distin/Agger every week. Good point though...I just seem to keep slowly expanding my defence xD

Hello Bojan. First time this season I think I've seen you. There's a few question marks over Luiz so I'd give him the flick. Maybe get Ivanovic for him. Not only is the job security better, but he provides a decent goal threat too.

I actually forgot that Luiz was 6.5. Go for Cole actually. I don't think I have to go through why really. Even if you go for Ivan or Cole, it's better than Luiz.

Holt was the first person on my team this year. He's looking pretty good. He scored against Parma on the weekend. He might struggle in the first few weeks, but if Norwich score a goal, he'll be involved nearly all the time.

I'll post my team for a RMT in a second. I don't think I'll get slaughtered, but we'll see what people think.

There's some with consistant high rankings in the game who are great on strategy, others who watch every minute of every match and can give better info than paid pundits, and those who's opinions are rated higher than others.... Afternoon all,

So could Aaron Ramsey be set to be one of the bargains of the season? He's been starting in pre season and scored a couple, form has looked pretty good, he's been playing in the Fabregas position and he's only £6.5m for an Arsenal MF! I can't wait for Arsene to get shot of his pair of whingers, clearing the way for Ramsey to step up and reveal his true potential!

+1 .. Aaron Ramsey is filling in at center back, bad choice.

Oops sorry WR, I was so excited I couldn't help myself.... Can't decide whether to go with him from the off or see how things pan out a bit. What do you reckon?

I wouldn't be so confident. But yes, I've had him in my team for a while and feel that he will prove average > excellent value.

Would any of you good people care to RMT?

I'll do yours if you do mine!

Given(Kenny), Kompany, Hughes, Cole A, (De Laet, Simpson), Taarabt, Silva, N'Zogbia, Malouda (Ferguson (NEW), Suarez, Rodallega, Bent

0.0 in the bank hence Ferguson in there as a bench warming MID priced at £4.0 Million.

FYI lay it out like mine below, it's easier to read.

It's okay, you just need Suarez to be fit, not sure whether you need both N'Zog and Bent to be honest.

Is Drog worth the punt the first few weeks? Or his he to much of a rotation risk?

Before I write out this RMT, I'd just like to apologise to "Now back to me" as I have stolen his Distin-Agger rotation idea, after looking, it really is great. Thanks!

    Given (Ruddy)
    Agger S.Taylor A.Cole (Distin)(Brown)
    Malouda Taarabt Murphy Moses (Barton)
    Bent Rooney Fletcher

    0.5 remaining

What you guys think? Gone a little outside the box, more than others have cared to venture I'd say and I quite like it 🙂

Can I ask for your reasoning behind Agger over say Kompany?

Having players with a good rotation is the key. However if I pay 6 or more for a defender then I must play them every week

Agger is more attacking for a start, plus the rotation really is sublime. I had Kompany for a long time, but am not overly confident of City's ability at the moment. I might bring him in GW4 instead but we'll see.

Since Kompany has come to the prem. 3 seasons - Kompany has scored 3 goals, Agger 1, and Kompany 5 assists and Agger 2. I'm a Liverpool fan, and I think Agger is a cracking player - our best CB when fit, but his attacking ability is highly over-rated. I think that goal he scored vs West Ham sticks in everyones mind with Agger.
