The Premier League earlier today confirmed the cancellation of Tottenham’s scheduled home game with Everton this Saturday. The club’s ticket office was damaged during days of civil unrest earlier in the week and with control of Tottenham High Road not due to be handed back to the local council from police until tomorrow, there is insufficient time to issue a safety certificate for the match.

Premier League chief executive Richard Scudamore said earlier today:

The very latest situation is that Tottenham and Everton has gone. The police have done a fantastic job, but it’s been a crime scene all week and the council have not had enough time to do what they need. The other nine fixtures are looking positive, subject to any more trouble. At 6pm tonight we will have a very clear picture.

Tottenham elaborated further on the club website afterwards:

Following ongoing discussions with the necessary authorities regarding this weekend’s Premier League home match against Everton, it has now been confirmed that this fixture will be postponed due to safety concerns relating to infrastructure of the High Road and access to the stadium caused by last Saturday’s riots.

The scenario leaves Fantasy Managers with some re-thinking to do ahead of Saturday‘s deadline, then. At the moment, Leighton Baines and Phil Jagielka have a combined ownership of 470K Fantasy Premier League (FPL) for the visitors while a look at the home side shows Gareth Bale, Luka Modric and Rafael Van der Vaart have been selected by 350K, 198K and 141K Fantasy managers respectively.

Spurs’ opening game of the season is now a visit to Old Trafford and with a difficult home game with Man City in Gameweek 3, short-term investment in their players could drop as a consequence. Everton, on the other hand, open their campaign at Goodison Park against QPR before taking a trip to Blackburn.

The 6pm Premier League update will provide more clues. At present, the nine games look likely to go ahead, meaning there’s a Double Gameweek on the horizon for at least two teams before the season has even kicked-off.

Have made a couple of changes... Any thoughts, good or bad?

    Given / Begovic
    Kompany / Smalling / Jagielka / Alex / Enrique
    Nani / Sessegnon / N'Zogbia / Taarabt / Moses
    Gervinho / Zamora / Drogba

    Still undecided re Jag/Alex
    Pretty happy with midfield
A better option than Zamora in front 3?

Someone earlier said it cant be earlier than GW4 (I havent checked).

      Thats when:
      1. International break
      2. Fixtures turn around for a fair few teams (Utd, Arsenal)
      3. Transfer window closes

All this spells wildcard, and Baines back in my team where he belongs!!

I'm pretty close to finishing up my team but cant decide between this:

    1) Tiote, N'Zogbia, Rodallega

    or

    2) Moses, Albrighton, Odemwingie

I wouldn't get so bogged down in not doubling up. Pick the 3 best players in your opinion and start the season from there.

I'd look at Odemwingie from GW3 onwards, myself.

Am waiting to see how Villa line up and perform against a fit Fulham side before choosing to bring in N'Zogbia, Albrighton or Ireland.

Who thinks FPL prizes are a little small...I mean...2 500 000 players and only 1 prize to the winner... they could make it so much better...I understand that if someone lives in autralia, it's a great prize, but if you live in england, is a little small...

If its advertised well enough surely they could generate enough income to have a prize pool of something like 1p per player. But at the same time why would they add extra costs when the game is clearly incredibly popular as it is.

Would you rather have N'Zogbia or Taarabt? Both are proven goalscorers but both have new circumstances that could limit their points haul. On the other hand, they both have nice fixtures for the first few weeks.

Thinking about precisely this right now. Leaning towards Taarabt on account of the price difference and the fact that there's on off chance Taarabt could just absolutely explode. If he doesn't work out, not too much harm has been done. Taarabt basically is QPR from what I understand, he takes pens and scores goals and is to them what Zog and Bent combined will be to Villa.

Then again, if you have Zog you can always get Taarabt in the same position, bringing Zog in for him would be harder. Depends what you'd do with the extra mil really.

what's everyone think of Stokes two new 4.5 defenders - Upson ad Woodgate. Are either of them worth a punt as a 3rd or 4th fantasy defender? If so, does it matter which one you pick? Looks as though both of them are ticketed to start.

But if I were to be betting on it I would say Suarez as he is less likely to get rotated as Pool will be going all out for the PL, Lamps but it will probably be close and Malouda could well prove to be better vaule and Silva although of all those players I would say Nani could have the highest PPG its just a matter of if he gets the game time especially if Fergie decides he is first choice and wants to save him for CL games.

Now that Everton's difficult opening fixture away to tottenham is called off, would it be a thought to have Baines on the bench for the first gw, and then ready for their easy schedule? If you can manage with only 14 players the first gw, you would save a transfer week 2? Madness?!

I don't know. Could you score 55 with him on the bench? If so - go for it!

      tricky call.

Putting Vidic/Cole in for a week then transferring might get me a few pts but I've a feeling I might want the transfer for other reasons

i put all the money on MF & FW..but weak defense giving benefits it's hard to maintain a clean sheet but quite easy to find a goal or assist...

arsenal player to come in in gw4 after downgrading 1 MF depending on their performance 🙂

Gone for the extra-thrifty defence approach I see. Like the mid tho.

What do you guys think, has Nani now earned his starting position ahead of Valencia (even if Valencia returns)?

Hell of a popular(but risky) pick.

      Double post = taboo.
Too much $$ spent on D.
      3 budge MF?
I'd say back to the drawing board!

Hi all - apologies for repost which got missed on the last article but suddently this question has become the most important factor in me finally finalising my team and finally getting some sleep, finally.

The question in question is, does anyone have any views on whether Watson is worth the £0.5 extra over Moses for Wigan?

Wigan fans will tell you Watson is worth a look, but personally I'm picking Moses because he's cheap, he starts, and he's a goal/assist threat. What more could you want. He's either my 4th or 5th midfielder. I can't see Watson being a difference maker, so why spend the extra .5?

I had Watson almost all of last year, but that was when he was 4.0. He was a steal, considering he got 90 min week in week out. Other than that he seldom produced any assist, even though he had corner kicks. And, although this could change this year, they didn't get to many penalties....!
So; for a budget midfielder who will not give you much points, based on last years experiences, he would be too expensive. Moses is more attacking, and will get the odd goal....!
But my guess is as good as any....! 😉

Not worth it, Moses more of an attacking player.

But maybe you can petition for another year of Blake Hoffarber.
