The thrills and spills of the greatest league in the world is back this weekend, and in time-honoured fashion so is the “Fantasy Flutter”.

To those of you new to this “Flutter” business, the concept is simple enough – we take a £10 stake each week and spread it across specialty bets that derive from the Scout Picks.

Last year we did better than break even and this time aroudn we want to give our friends over at Paddy Power a real run for their money. For Gameweek one you’ll get a chance to take a punt on Nani back flips and assist hat-tricks, as Paddy have provided an assortment of betting treats in their Fantasy Football Scout Specials page.

Read on to find out where our money goes and get the skinny on the big odds…

First up is Liverpool’s £35million hero-in-the-making Andy Carroll. Some tempting numbers offered from Paddy here, but none more so than Carroll to net two headers or more at 16/1. Now as awkward and cumbersome as his 6’3″ frame looks chasing down a defender, he has all the majesty of a rising salmon when his feet leave terra firma. I’ll take £2 at that price, and would have a few more if there wasn’t loads of value to come (I’d even take a couple of quid on a hat-trick of headers at some point this season if Paddy’d oblige).

With Charles N’Zogbia settling in to his new digs at Aston Villa, Victor Moses looks the man to give manager Roberto Martinez the goal threat from the flank this time around. Knee deep in goals in his pre-season friendlies, Moses will be parting the yellow sea and making his mark against Norwich on Saturday. After only netting a single goal in 24 shots last Premiership season, I’m edging toward quality over quanity with Moses to score from outside the box at 9/1 for a £2 stake.

Community Shield hero and part-time Michael Jackson look-a-like Luis Carlos Almeida da Cunha, or Nani for short, lines up against West Brom for Man United’s opener. After netting a brace against sterner opposition last weekend, Nani will be hungry for more and at 12/1 in the two or more goals market, it’s worth a £1 of anyone’s money. I’d even take a punt on him doing a homage to his doppleganger and Moonwalk in celebration, but alas that market is not available so I’ll settle for a cheeky quid on Nani to score a goal and do a backflip at 6/1.

Last but not least, David Silva has been on fire in Man City’s pre-season. His nimble footwork has lent elegance to Mario Balotteli’s immature showboating, with perfectly timed passes that put him as favourite for the seasons top assist machine. In that vein, Silva to have three or more assists at 20/1 doesn’t seem as longer shot as the odds might suggest. With a hammering expected, and long list of scoring talent on the pitch and the bench, i’ll take a punt and whack £2 on Silva’s silky skills. No guts, no glory.

Acca-not believe it!

In addition to the flutter this week, Paddy have put on an enhanced treble market for us to welcome the newly promoted clubs to the world of Fantasy Football. Although QPR might be a deal breaker here, with a draw well fancied, Norwich, Swansea and QPR all to lose at 13/2 makes the final £2 of the £10 stake. Sorry lads, what goes up, must come down.

Good luck in your gambles, and look in next week to find out how we did.

Bet £10 Get £20

If you’re new to this betting lark and new to Paddy Power then you can take up any of these odds and offers and get yourself a bonus. You can sign up via this site and get a free £20 when you register and bet a tenner.

Finally of course, we should state that all these offers are only available to those aged 18 and over and are subject to Paddy Power’s terms and conditions. Also, if you’re going to bet, always gamble responsibly.

i could see the league name from my team screen...off to the right, but if i click it to see members of the league, my name isn't there

That's a great team. The lack of Chelsea coverage and a bench problem in midfield are the only things holding it back, but you've obviously weighed the pros and cons, and if it's a risk you're willing to take, it's all yours.

plan is too downgrade silva and carroll to nzogbia and suarez in a few weeks.. and then upgrade gabbidon to a ivan/luiz/alex(when uncertainty clears)..
so it's pretty safe in a way as in 3-4 weeks my defense will be upgraded too..
        thanks camzy

I wouldn't bank on making those moves. You never know what could happen. Would you be confident taking that defense out every week for the next 10? If yes, and I think the answer is yes, you're all good to go.

Vorm-when you going to play him? Otherwise, that's 4 million burning your team up.
My sort of defence but not tempted by Enrique. Offers little FF-wise.
RVP and Rooney is overkill as your lightweight midfield reveals.

i'm gonna play vorm only if given is out injured.. and 4 is the minimum for a goalie(plus i'm backin swansea for some CS's).. Enrique?? a steal at liverpool imo.. and my midfield has most of the bandwagons and a bighitter in silva.. so it's not that week imo.. thanks though.. may consider taking a less risky route

Kind of think, Keith, that expensive midfielders are your main points scorers. Your fantasy bread and better if you like.

To go w/out Nani, Malouda, et al would concern me. Budget players generally generate budget pts hauls.

there's too much risk involved with nani(rotation), malouda(new system/maybe rotation).. i'd rather have one big hitter in midfield and rotate the rest.. and buy and sell expensive forwards based on form/fixtures.. i'd prefer a tevez/Aguero, Drogba/Torres, Carroll/Suarez, Bent, RVP, Rooney over any of their expensive midfield suppliers

plus until a standout budget striker appears i wont be convinced.. budget midfielders have set pieces or an OOP at their disposal.. once say a holt/ba proves their worth i may consider.. for now though i say spending big in midfield is more risky..

I usually go with cheap DEFs anyway each year because I like having more captain options as we go along. This year I'm trying to avoid that early WC that I always do. Getting Enrique now is smart.

Good luck. I'm on the way home from Boston now so I will check back here in a little while.

Doubling on Fulham defense? You have ice water in your veins.
Cahill? Are you assuming a move for him? Bolton's fixtures are u-g-l-y.

Weak midfield, imo. And your entire front line is a doubt.

Do you think he will play as a winger if so you have made me quite happy at the prospect of having him.

        Thanks.

I don't think it's that high really, considering the prices this season.

Camzy can you have one final look and assesment of my team just for piece of mind? I'm pretty happy with it though.

    Foster (Vorm)

    S.Taylor – Lescott – Cashley (Gabbidon – Bramble)

    Surman – N’Zog – Nani – Sessegnon (Sinclair)

    DJ – RVP(C) – Rooney(VC)

Is Surman an attacking player for Norwich?

I know i'm not Camzy, but i think your midfield is a bit weak. DJ up top is a good call, though

        He plays LM.

I'm happy with only one expensive midfielder this year, there seems to be a lot of value to be had with the mid priced options and I think I'll get more with having the big two up front.

Hey bmb100, good team you have here, but I think you can make a few final tweaks.

The biggest problem I have with this team is a lack of captaincy options. You have two Man United players and RVP as your captaincy choices. Effectively, this limits you to two choices for captaincy in terms of teams. Straight out of the gate, captaincy could be a bit of a pickle for you considering Arsenal and Man United's relatively tough fixtures.

Get Malouda to cover Chelsea. He'd make a fine captain week 2 and 3. Also, you've got to weigh the benefits of the 0.5ms you toss around.

      S. Taylor over Simpson, Lescott over Toure. For those 0.5s, if you invested it elsewhere, would you get better returns?

I'd say Lescott would probably be worth it since you'll be playing him every week, but Taylor you'll be benching for quite a few games, and giving up 0.5 on a player who will likely sit on the bench is just not worth it.

        Nice thoughts.

For me RVP is fixture proof so can be considered for captain any week. Nani is an option whenever United play at home whoever they play for the start of the season. Also N'Zog is not totally out of the question for captaincy when he has brilliant fixtures.

Malouda is pretty much the one player I'd love to fit in but I don't want to loose any of my current high end players. If he plays for 90 minutes and plays well vs Stoke I may try and fit him in, but I feel Nani, RVP and Rooney will score better.

        S. Taylor is probably the only player that has been in every draft so far. I have no interest in Newcastle defence for CSs really. For me he's the greatest defensive goal threat in the PL and at 4.5 he's really worth it. Got him playing this week because I really fancy him for a goal vs Arsenal and I've got a few quid on him to score. Simpson would likely never play for me wheras Taylor will find my way into the team as many weeks as not I reckon.

Lescott also has a significant increased goal threat. For the cost of 1m in total for two of the best goal scoring defenders in the leauge is worth it IMO, considering the value of goals for defenders.

I may regret not getting Malouda, but Nani is too hard for me to resist for the first few weeks.
