While we pointed you towards the Fantasy Premier League Apology earlier, having had time to digest its contents, I thought I’d bring you my view on the actions laid out in today’s release.

We’ve all been immensely frustrated by the events of the weekend – before tonight, it was almost as if the Premier League players themselves had empathy for our situation – arguably, we had very little to cheer.

Personally, I just want to move on now – to look forward to Gameweek Two – I’m sure I’m not alone in feeling that. Before we do however, let’s chew over that FPL statement a little.

Receive unlimited transfers
No points will be deducted for any transfers you make up to the Gameweek 2 deadline (11:30 BST on Saturday 20th August 2011). If you have already made transfers and had points deducted, these will be restored to your overall total by midnight on Tuesday 16th August 2011. If you have already opted to play your wildcard, this too will be restored at the same time.

This first point, not surprisingly, is by far the most significant. Effectively we now go again with our squad selection. There’s already plenty who feel somewhat aggrieved by this, who feel that they are being punished for their planning and foresight both in terms of getting their team organised and for spotting talent without the assistance of Gameweek One’s fixtures.

While I see the validity of this argument, my main concern as a player is that I want to be playing this game on a level playing field. If I win my mini-league, I want to win it knowing that I’ve done so with no more advantage than my rivals.

Right now, there are members of my mini-leagues who can claim that they were attempting to make changes to their team or captain on the morning of Saturday’s games. You can say they should have planned ahead but, hand on heart, I consider at least changing my captain and substitute order on Saturday morning about 90% of the time over the season. I can understand the frustration of those who were unable to do so last weekend and I don’t want to spend the season risking that being cited when they look at the teams above them.

Personally, I don’t want to play in a league where a proportion of my rivals can claim any disadvantage now, or as the Gameweeks roll on. By taking this step the FPL have at least leveled matters, even if proportion of FPL Managers feel almost punished, nobody can be seen to have a true advantage going forward.

There is the argument that, those teams who started well in Gameweek One (not too many before tonight) have lost their advantage since those with lesser team selections can now reset their squads for free. That’s true of course, but then, by playing a wildcard, everyone had this possibility regardless, the only difference is that now, everyone can keep that wildcard intact – again, everyone stays on a level.

It’s a very difficult situation to weigh up – personally, I feel slightly numb after Gameweek One – in many ways I want a new start where nobody can claim an advantage or disadvantage. I think today’s solution from the FPL gives us that, even though there will be those who feel they’ve lost out. Given the problems suffered on Friday/Saturday – it seemed inevitable that we’d be left with a group of FPL players who felt that way. At least now we have a level playing field for the remainder of the season – that seems a fair situation.

One final note here – regarding the price freeze prior to Gameweek Two – I’ve enquired on this and we’re waiting confirmation. I’ll communicate this once we have news.

Opt to start mini-league scoring at Gameweek 2
The option is available to all mini-league administrators to start the scoring from Gameweek 2. Go to ‘Leagues’ > ‘League name’ > ‘Administer’ > Select ‘Gameweek 2’ in ‘Scoring Starts’ drop-down menu and click ‘Update league details’.

Okay, so now the decision whether to scrap Gameweek One as a scoring Gameweek is down to league administrators. Passing the buck a little but a smart move. Personally, for the reason’s I’ve outlined above, I think it’s valid to start scoring from Gameweek Two to ensure that nobody feels at a disadvantage.

Having said that, perhaps we should give managers a choice. While we’re resetting our Head to Head Leagues, there’s the possibility of running a Gameweek Two Classic League for Members and Non Members and offering the option. To be honest, I need to clear my head and sleep on it before I consider that any further.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Not sure about Tchoyi - he didn't get much gametime last year, but Hodgson seems to like him... he's one of those players who flashes between brilliance and ineptitude in the same game.

Not sure on Dobbie - definitely worth keeping an eye.

Any ideas why price rises haven't taken place yet? Looks from totalfpl like at least Cahill should have gone up and Fabs/Klasnic down by now?

I started with a gamble on Bosingwa and it certainly paid off- even feel he deserved BPs a lot more than cashley. But I'm not sure he's a wise choice now GW1 has passed.

Could get 1 or 2 more GWs out of him before Ivan comes in though. Is it worth the effort?

Hmm i thought i was pretty content with my team but this free trade week has made me rethink it.
    Given (Al-Habsi)
    A.Cole - Kompany - Enrique (Simpson, Brown)
    Silva - Nani - Brunt - Moses - N'Zogbia
    Suarez - Bent (Holt)
    0.5 lleft in the bank
New to epl fantasy and really have no idea about good defenders/who to get in. I don't know if i should trade out N'Zogbia because it might take him time to settle, or to keep him due to his upcoming fixture. Also contemplating what to do with Holt. Any advice would be much appreciated

BPs aren't out yet for last night's match.

They came out on Monday around noon (I think) for the weekend matches and will probably come out around noon the day after any weekday matches, so you will need to wait for a few hours for them.

So only some of the teams have had BP applied.
There is no easy way to check whose got BP, not even clicking on the player will tell you BP or minutes played.
Leagues have been updated (well except overall), which is strange as not all BP are available.
Do they realise they will have to recalculate league scores when Man City BP are added? Tenner says they havent thought that far.
Extra WC apparently, but when transferring is says points will be deducted.

Other than that not bad really.

Seems like the lunatics have taken over the asylum again.

It's such a shame that the window for serious discussion about football on this forum is so short. About 5:00am to maybe 7:00am CET, and then the cretins come in who haven't bothered to read the last couple of pages so ask the same questions over and over again.

If you want any respect around here then at least read the last couple of effing pages before jumping in and asking the same damned thing four times in a row, and then ignoring the answers that have already been posted.

I'll leave you all to the next round of "Why didn't Silva get any BPs?", "When do the prices rise?" and the eternally popular "Are these transfers really free?".

              Enjoy.

I'd like to hear from some Chelsea fans on this one.

Can Bosingwa hang onto a spot here and be a consistent starter right now under AVB??

I know Ivanovic is there and close to fit. Will he start there? Ferrera?

Because Bosingway for me looked excellent away to Stoke and being 2.0 less than Cashley and just as attacking, it's too good to resist. Would Ivanovic go centre maybe with Luiz injured??

Who knows - AVB's too new. Under Ancelotti, Branislav would be nailed on for right back; he hated Bosingwa. But AVB seems to like attacking fullbacks, and as far as I could see, Bosingwa was better than Cole vs Stoke (no matter what EA nimwits say). So vs weaker teams, I see Bos staying. Against tougher teams with strong left sided players, Ivanovic may well play, but not for the next week or two. Am personally sticking with Bos.

Exactly. Rather spend it on Aguero who's second goal just screamed quality buy.

I have Suarez and Torres already.
Bent had one shot on goal away to a defensive Fulham side, at home to Blackburn i think he will go pretty well.

My doubts aren't with Bent, it's with the service he'll get - relying on Heskey...

Apparently Bent lacks supply. It'll be hard for a poacher like Bent to score without at least a decent assist line.

personally for .5 more I would prefer yaya to n'zog. other than that i like your team. you can downgrade one of the mids to hoolahan to get the .5 mil too

I was at the game, he sat a bit deeper than usual, but that didn't stop him from getting forward, I don't think it has reduced his scoring potential, when we had the ball he was the same as last season, he just helped out more when we didn't. He was basically just asked to be behind the ball when not in possesion but all players are given more defensive responsibilities under AVB except the main striker because he wants us to win the ball back high up the pitch and ASAP, so I wouldn't worry, he always makes himself available for a pass, gets in shooting positions and takes pens as said. We could have had two pens, only one was definite.

Seb Larson has some quality free kicks. He's playing in a better team this year so he should do quite well. He's not exactly expensive either that 6.5 Worth a punt IMO.

really nice fella, shame about his father; he should pay the ransom as soon as possible as nigerians don't play nice when it comes to people snatching....from a footballing perspective he has been granted leave from next week's game to tend to his personal crisis. no one knows if chelseas are primed to buy another DM or stick with Mikel....if he pays the ransom soon pick him up for GM3.... I felt a bit dirty typing thid BTW.

Well what great news this is! Free WC? I can understand how some people may be upset but couldn't be happier myself! I spent a ton of time planning my team as well but how can you hate on free transfers?! Especially with Aguero's shenanigans tonight! Here's a peak at some alterations I've giddily made so far

My Revamped Squad (Thank you FPL)

GK: Given / Begovic (rotate perfectly 19/19 and both are solid... no faith in prior Ruddy choice)

DEF: Bosingwa / Kompany / Enrique / De Laet / Simpson (downgraded Cole and two cheapies rotate well)

MID: Young / Sess / Moses / Sinclair / Ramsey (not too many big hitters but solid players and hopefully no real weak links(

FWD: Suarez / Torres / Aguero (3 big guns! not much needs to be said lol)

    How does it look?

wilshere for ramsey. Arsenal retaining fourth place will depend if wilshere can get into double digits this season. my guess is he outscores rambo come the end of the season.

      I like it man.

Those three up front I am also tempted to go with now – since I am worried the EA performance index will favour the strikers heavily.

It's risky but could really pay off.
