Andre Villas-Boas grabs a debut point in a bruising encounter at Stoke. Fernando Torres repays his manager’s faith and shows an appetite sorely missing of late. Man United steal a march on many of their rivals already, picking up all three points at the Hawthorns, as Ashley Young’s debut show overshadows Nani. Here’s the Scout Notes from yesterday’s games, then:

Torres Looking Lively
Andre Villas-Boas took everyone by surprise when the Chelsea line-up was announced for the Stoke game. With Fernando Torres just back in training from concussion, surely the last thing he needed was a bruising battle at the Britannia? To his credit, though, Torres proved the Blues boss right, with a determined performance that suggested he’s recaptured some of the confidence that seems to have evaporated over the last twelve months.

With two home games against West Brom and Norwich, Fantasy managers will be hoping Torres can keep his place and lessen the likelihood of rotation up top. Jose Bosingwa’s selection at right-back over the more battle-hardened Branislav Ivanovic suggests Villas-Boas may prefer his more attack-minded game in the Chelsea starting XI.

Woodgate Keeps Fit
Robert Huth continued at right-back for the Potters, allowing Jonathan Woodgate to keep his place alongside Ryan Shawcross in the heart of defence. Tony Pulis’ injury worries continued yesterday, with both Matt Etherington and Rory Delap departing the proceedings with possible shoulder and hamstring problems respectively.

Fergie Keeps Faith in Youngsters
After his Community Shield performance in the previous week, Sir Alex Ferguson started Tom Cleverley alongside Anderson in central midfield. Injuries to Rafael and Patrice Evra meant Chris Smalling and Fabio grabbed the full-back slots, though with Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic looking likely to be sidelined for six and two weeks respectively, the likes of Phil Jones seems set for some first-team starts over the upcoming Gameweeks.

Fergie once again chose the pace and movement of Danny Welbeck over Dimitar Berbatov up top, in light of Javier Hernandez’s absence through concussion. Ashley Young made an instant impact for United; the winger played a part in both his side’s goals, with a ball into the box deflected into his own net by Steven Reid.

Roy Starts Tchoyi Up Front
Somen Tchoyi once again featured as a forward for West Brom. Classed as a midfielder in many Fantasy games, Tchoyi was paired with debutant Shane Long in a front two, with Peter Odemwingie failing to recover from an ankle injury. Although the Baggies registered more shots than Man United yesterday, Long’s goal was somewhat fortuitous, with David de Gea allowing a tame shot to find its way past him. Graham Dorrans had to settle for a place on the bench, with James Morrison grabbing the left wing berth in the 2-1 defeat.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

'The EA SPORTS Player Performance Index is the only official player rating index of the Barclays Premier League which measures a player’s all round contribution to the success of his team…'

This explains why A Johnson got 3 bonus points for his team's clean sheet, and why A Young got nothing for the 2 assists leading to goals.

I currently have Kuyt and Agger ... thinking of doing:

    b) Ash Cole & T Cahill (Have £0.5m in bank)

Nasri twitter: "I heard what the fans were singing about me on saturday and it is really disrespectful because i'm still a arsenal player"

Ooooo i couldn't see the whole game, any ideas what they were singing?

Carroll, Torres, and Moses all got 0 PPI. Assuming this isn't a mistake, I was trying to figure out how that could even be possible. My only guess is that shots off target are a huge negative to a player's PPI.

Carroll, 7 shots but only 1 on target
Torres, 3 shots but only 1 on target
Moses, 3 shots but only 1 on target

So despite their all being key performers in their respective games, they somehow come out with 0 PPI.

If this is correct, then we all need to simply buy goal scorers who have high shots on target ratios...

This PPI scheme is VERY BAD.

I have 35pts after bonus came through with Kompany to play.

That said, I'd be worried if I did do well this week since it would mean I have a team with Watson, Klasnic, Cahill etc in it.

Over the course of the season, Lampard/Nani/Enrique/N'Zogbia etc are going to score points, and I'm not worried that for 1 GW they didn't. Review is after GW3, since by then we'd have more knowledge about players and the lucky ones will be struggling. (I'd be much more worried if I was behind because the big names performed and I had none of them...)

No, since my view was to have Suarez as soon as he was fit. The plan was Nani -> Malouda this week, Carroll -> Suarez next week, but Suarez's match fitness plus risk of price increase plus Malouda's crapness means I made the Carroll -> Suarez sub now.

I've unsuccessfully tried to find some up-to-date info about what will cause players values to increase. Is it purely based on 'transfers in' and nothing else? Or is it linked to the allocation of bonus points? Or a combination of factors? And is it known when the value increases will happen?

Some of you may consider me lucky for having Rooney instead of RVP, but the logic was there for the first 3 GW's. And this is the logic I went by when selecting Rooney.

    - Rooney has two fixtures at old Trafford, and an away trip at West Brom. Who kept what, two cleanies last season?
-Rooney is playing for United, not a dismantled Arsenal side.
-Arsenal have tough fixtures. Liverpool (H) then United away.
    - I predicted a 0-0 (Put a £1 on it 🙂 ) as last season was a weird game. And both sides are in a transition period as such. Was never going to be a thriller.

I'll admit however, this could easily of seen RVP sitting on 9 points and Rooney on 2, but for me, the logic was there.

I agree with the logic completely - which is the similar view I took with Nani over Silva.

Would've had RvP over Rooney because he's generally fixture proof, but the reasons above made the decision close to 50/50.

Also my 3 GW theory means I'm not going to panic over 1 bad (average it seems) week.

      Fair dues.

My logic was that I think RVP is the better fantasy player and was more likely to have an explosive gameweek. It didn't turn out that way but lets remember Roo didn't do much but score one goal.

RVP owners need to chillax and wait for the gameweek where RVP scores one goal and is rewarded with 3BPs.

I cannot think of a single thing better about the new look site, and they've completely buggered up the usability. Farewell, many of us are thinking the same thing, leagues are damaged by Saturdays fiasco.

You can learn a foreign language over the next year with the time you might save, if you are a devotee of this game.

The jibber over BPs and the human judgment side was so much fun,... I will miss that human part,

I think many of the glitches will be fixed by GW3- live scoring is most important and a breakdown of how the score was awarded.

Don't leave yet, give them TWO more GW's and if things don't improve vastly then most of us readers will be off. They need to sort out the league tables and Head to Head Matches, they need to bring back bonus points that actually match up to what we see in the game. The tradition bonus points were 80 per cent accurate compared to 25 per cent now.
I know it's tough at the moment and they should never had changed the site, but give them a two week chance to sort everything out!

I also play Yahoo Fantasy Football which uses a variation of objective stats only for total player scores. So far, Given is the 4th highest ranked player, after Cahill, Begovic, Klasnic and just ahead of Brunt. Jass was the third highest rated goalie.

With Begovic getting just one BP, I wonder if Given just missed, plain and simple and it's not the colossal error that T and other thought.

I recommend Yahoo FF, because you can change your team 100% each week without penalty, thus an antidote to hits and premature WC ejac******.

Unlimited transfers sounds crap tbh. No real planning or thought required.

Scratch- wow, you don't think planning is necessary to pick the players with the best match ups within a limited $100 million budget, when the player's value changes each week.

Oh well everyone is entitled to their own hasty opinion. You should try it for a week or two.

I played Yahoo fantasy league when they had the price screw up about 5 years ago, ruined my experience with the game. Plus it's not that easy to understand points for passes/tackles/taking a piss at half time/finishing half time orange in less than 10s/etc its too much.

It's changed since then, the fun part is assessing each week's game and being able to react on a weekly basis within the budget, rather than fulfilling a careful, long term strategy as this game requires.

Where is the head to head draws abd tables?
Why can I see the transfers of players others are making?
Where is the screen you can see what each player got for a single match?
When we all this be sorted?

Why change a site that everyone was use to> It worked perfectly and the bonus points fitted and made sense 80 per cent of the time which is better than the 25 per cent that we have now. How do defenders get more bonus points?

If time is contained within the Universe itself and was created by its expansion then outside such environment there is no when 😉
