Andre Villas-Boas grabs a debut point in a bruising encounter at Stoke. Fernando Torres repays his manager’s faith and shows an appetite sorely missing of late. Man United steal a march on many of their rivals already, picking up all three points at the Hawthorns, as Ashley Young’s debut show overshadows Nani. Here’s the Scout Notes from yesterday’s games, then:

Torres Looking Lively
Andre Villas-Boas took everyone by surprise when the Chelsea line-up was announced for the Stoke game. With Fernando Torres just back in training from concussion, surely the last thing he needed was a bruising battle at the Britannia? To his credit, though, Torres proved the Blues boss right, with a determined performance that suggested he’s recaptured some of the confidence that seems to have evaporated over the last twelve months.

With two home games against West Brom and Norwich, Fantasy managers will be hoping Torres can keep his place and lessen the likelihood of rotation up top. Jose Bosingwa’s selection at right-back over the more battle-hardened Branislav Ivanovic suggests Villas-Boas may prefer his more attack-minded game in the Chelsea starting XI.

Woodgate Keeps Fit
Robert Huth continued at right-back for the Potters, allowing Jonathan Woodgate to keep his place alongside Ryan Shawcross in the heart of defence. Tony Pulis’ injury worries continued yesterday, with both Matt Etherington and Rory Delap departing the proceedings with possible shoulder and hamstring problems respectively.

Fergie Keeps Faith in Youngsters
After his Community Shield performance in the previous week, Sir Alex Ferguson started Tom Cleverley alongside Anderson in central midfield. Injuries to Rafael and Patrice Evra meant Chris Smalling and Fabio grabbed the full-back slots, though with Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic looking likely to be sidelined for six and two weeks respectively, the likes of Phil Jones seems set for some first-team starts over the upcoming Gameweeks.

Fergie once again chose the pace and movement of Danny Welbeck over Dimitar Berbatov up top, in light of Javier Hernandez’s absence through concussion. Ashley Young made an instant impact for United; the winger played a part in both his side’s goals, with a ball into the box deflected into his own net by Steven Reid.

Roy Starts Tchoyi Up Front
Somen Tchoyi once again featured as a forward for West Brom. Classed as a midfielder in many Fantasy games, Tchoyi was paired with debutant Shane Long in a front two, with Peter Odemwingie failing to recover from an ankle injury. Although the Baggies registered more shots than Man United yesterday, Long’s goal was somewhat fortuitous, with David de Gea allowing a tame shot to find its way past him. Graham Dorrans had to settle for a place on the bench, with James Morrison grabbing the left wing berth in the 2-1 defeat.

Ok I've got a slightly strange problem with FPL, not seen anyone else mention this and would really appreciate some help.

I've got 2 teams set up, with the same email address and password and the same team names.

One is registered in a mini-league and is a proper team (ie I set it up properly), the other is an autocomplete team not registered in any leagues.

I can see the mini-league team when I look at the league, but when I log into the site it logs me in to the autocompleted team.

I've emailed FPL but no reply as yet. Slightly concerned that I won't be able to get into the proper team between now and Saturday.

    Anyone got any ideas?

More or less, yes. It was actually around 4pm on Friday I tried to get back in to tinker, and it wouldn't let me in. I clicked 'forgotten password' and it said I wasn't registered, so I signed up again.

Silly in hindsight but I had no idea they were having problems at that stage.

Yeah I thought so, it told lots of people they had the wrong details/password if you couldn't log in. It was their problem though.

You'll probably be stuck with the crap team, that's the way the season has started for them.

Seems a bit silly, given that both teams exist. Surely it's just a case of deleting the duplicate and associating the login details with the correct team?

Yep thats exactly what I thought, which is why I assumed the first one had disappeared when it let me sign up again with the exact same login details.

Also, when I signed back in again at about 6.30 on Friday, it took me into the proper team. I even changed the kit!

There are definitely 2 teams though, check the links below.

Ok, thanks for the reply Granville. A bit more background might help...

The reason I have 2 teams is that the first time I set one up (very quickly, just hitting autocmplete), when I came back to it later, it said there was no team registered under that email address. So I set up a new one and made a proper team, joined the mini-league etc.

        Both teams still exist:
        Autocompleted team : http://fantasy.premierleague.com/entry/1667414/history/

        Proper team : http://fantasy.premierleague.com/entry/1744870/history/

Seanigula set up a team, but his password stopped working so he asked FPL to reset it, which they did. Only the new password they sent him doesn't work. He's had them reset again but still doesn't work.

Ok, no worries. Seems unlikely they're going to resolve it before GW2 either while they've got much bigger issues to sort out.

Looks like it's a choice between wildcarding, starting from scratch, or a hefty points hit.

had this incident like four seasons back when I had five teams (didn't know the rules back then) I must've mixed up the email addresses when re-registering for the new season, cuz four of the teams were kind of busted, they were in the leagues alright, but didn't get any scores it was pretty shitty. But I learnt my lesson 🙂

Take note FPL, this is how to resolve a problem. Be open and tell people what's happening.

I'm hopeful that all the bugs will be fixed and the bonus points will eventually become part of the strategy of our teams.
What is a real downer if true is the non-updating of leagues until the end of the gameweek. It takes out most of the thrill of the game. When you knew that your rival had Torres as captain for the midweek game and you were only 5 points ahead. It's that sort of fun that made each game special
On top of that, I run an internal magazine for a major retailer. We have around 150 fantasy football managers in a big league. When the fixtures start to get congested and the midweek games really kick in we're not going to be able to run anything because the gameweek table won't have updated in time to at least give a snapshot of that week when we go to print.
Please tell me this is a temporary bug and we'll have day by day updating of the leagues?

TotalFPL is a guidance site. It's not 100% accurate. Use it to help you see when thresholds are being neared with reagards to price rises and falls.

Protection is guessowrk but usually very accurate as to when it will end. When it ends they lose whatever percentage they have and start from 0.

The % is a result of how many transfers in that gameweek minus how many transfers out. If that number reaches a threshold (of an indeterminate number depending on a formula, but becomes more accurate as the season goes on) then that price will change that night at 1am (2am).

Protection doesn't stop price changing totally, just makes it much harder to change. So while protected the % could get up to 200%, 300% I think Adam or someone even got near 400% last season. When the protection ended that 400% became 0% and no price rise/fall happened.

          I think that's how it works it's been a long off-season.

Goggle to fiso "crack the code" and read under the Help tab. It will help, but this is confusing.

One thing is that a player can rise or fall if he is only at 70% in quite a few cases (based on pent up, late demand that is not recorded an hour or so before the regular time for rise/falls each night. Don't be surprised.

That said Total FPL tracker is a great way to increase value.

It's pretty complicated, and it might have changed with the shiny, new, perfectly functioning update, but from what I can gather:

A player is red or yellow flagged. At this point, price protection does not kick in.

When the red or yellow flag disappears, price protection does kick in. Net transfers in are reset to 0, and subsequent transfers in or out do not count towards price rises or falls until...

Price protection ends (about 8 days after it started). Transfers in or out start to count towards price rises.

On TotalFPL, when a player is marked as 'PROT', this DOES NOT mean they are still price protected. It means that the % figure given is likely to be wrong, because the player was protected AT SOME POINT since the last time the price changed.

i think 1966 Eric is exactly correct...another point is that when a player is flagged it takes many more transfers for his price to fall...but many people assume that flagged = protected...they are wrong and Eric got it right

Doubtful they would ever roll it back after advertising EA index as the tracker. Plus as we struggle to draft new players based on BP system, that would wrench that up too.

Soon there will be a BPoint article that says who benefits and who loses with some precision, we had one a few weeks ago, but this first week was unusual for lack of goals and home wins (I think) and has us in a tizzy.

Supposed to be in for Modibo Maiga from Sochaux. He's refusing to play for them again as he wants to join us.

Probably means he's gonna be a whinger. I'll grudgingly admit to being impressed by Obertan against Arsenal, he's bloody quick.

      Little changes.

You travel up norf & get robbed. Only to return & find you've also been robbed of your most valuable possession.

He didn't mouth of to the press. Good luck to him.

On a slightly separate not, Wenger has been talking up Ramsey.

Squillaci is an impostor. Back up needed. The popular view seems to be the likes of Jagielka/Samba/Chaill. He'll hunt players down most of us in here have never heard of I suspect.

but Johnson went for £7m - Why wasnt Wennger in for him? Inexcusable.

Why has he gone out and bought a load of unproven kids like oxlade chamberlain and wilkinson. Wenger has lost it.

Arsenal have a battle on their hands to finish 4th.

He very rarely buys the 'end product'. Or players past their mid twenties.

He buys potential (Ryodinho, Jenkinson, Campbell, Oxlade-Chamberlain). It's his way.

Most fans would love to see him spend £. The transfer window isn't closed yet.

I think it is a little more complicated.

For one thing when that contract expires he leaves and Arsenal get nothing for him. Wenger doesn't want that.

For another if Fabregas doesn't want to be there he won't play well for Arsenal. There is little point in keeping a player there against their will. From the looks of the deal Fabregas is even putting his own money in to make up Arsenal's transfer fee so it seems he REALLY wanted to go.

Certain circumstances would make the offer more "lucrative" but the base payout....yes. Ridiculous. Shows how much homegrown players are worth in the PL now. Causes too much hype, and then leads to disappointing domestic and international displays.

I think Wenger believed he could hang onto him for another year, win something & perhaps he'd want to stay for longer.

His hamstrings are now the property of the Catalans.

Dear J Wilshere - If you get a call in the dead of night, from a man with a Catalan accent asking for a sample of your DNA, put the phone down old boy.

It's impossible to say if Arsenal would have finished higher/lower without Fabregas last season.

Unlikely anyway, with all the trophies they're winning and shirt/ticket sales. Also the way things work in Spain, Madrid and Barca get a large percentage of money from TV rights. It's not very evenly distributed.

    considering a 4 pointer already

    Malouda > Tiote

    Graham > Torres

I can see Torres scoring big soon. Can't see Malouda doing the same. I think it will pay for itself and tORRES could be good value at 11m.

He missed the goal from all of a yard, didnt score. I agree he looked better than last season where he looked like he was playing in the womens world cup. But still NOT GOOD ENOUGH.

I really hope AVB has the kahunas to drop him. Play Drogba or he will leave! Get Lukaku in for the future. We need a winger desperately.

Torres is getting praise for playing well I would say, and because he is returning to form which people like to see, he missed as a defender just got a foot to the ball, beat a lot of players throughout the match and should have won us a penalty. Also, Drogba won't leave while he still has a contract and Stoke defended well and in vast numbers against us, a 0-0 draw at Stoke is not too bad.

I'd keep Malouda and Graham. But do try and get Torres in there. Graham was the champos highest goalscorer last season with 24 goals I think. He'll be a hit, I'm sure.
Remember last season he was with Watford, he'll get more chances to score with the Swans.

Ok, related to the problems I mentioned earlier, if you had this team - http://fantasy.premierleague.com/entry/1667414/history/
(bearing in mind all the city defenders playing tonight)

    Would you:

    a) Scrap the team and start from GW2

    b) Wildcard

    c) Take a 20 odd points hit to get to a halfway adequate team??

I'm leaning that way, especially as it's been a fairly low scoring week. I might be 60 or so behind the leader but I can make a new team based on the extra info, and I won the same league by over 100 points last year.

Was this an autocomplete team, early on and unable to change on Saturday's lock out? I would try to just play 11 this weekend. Then take an 8 point hit next week to replace 4 players. It looks like you could raise enuf cash to redeploy correctly. Don't worry about Scznezy/Fab for this weekend, that's OK.

WC are so valuable. One key is if Zab or Pav actually play- that would be a huge plus and a reason not to WC. If someone gets hurt on MC tonight, then Zab might work. My take on it..

Well, this is a challenge, as I only see 10 players for the weekend, but Park might play. Then you can take the 8 point hit, to right the ship with four new players. Structure will still be a bit off.

Haven't checked to see if you can take a 4 pt hit this week and again next. You need Silva/Nzog/Suarez type "cheap" but solid players- I don't know if you can raise the cash. Senderos/Simpson/S.Taylor are great cheap defender, maybe that will help

With the new BP system, I might check to see if Park will be a magnet in the interim, if he plays. Zab/Acquilani would go out first. I think this "marriage can be saved" without a WC.

although your team is awful and a wildcard is an option you need to be sure you're picking good players rather than repeating the same sort of mistakes

as an alternative you could take a 4 point hit...get rid of aquilani and park...make sure you replace them with good players popular on here...reassess after next weeks matches

many experienced players won't be far ahead of you...your everton and spurs players will have 2 matches in one week soon...although pav will probably need to be chopped as well

          it's a long-long season so don't worry too much...good luck

I think you can do a WC now based on first GW fixtures (a lot of people will do that anyway)... try and build a bit of value in your team and you've still got a WC to use later in the season

    What a f*cking FARCE.

Where to begin, there's so many problems.

It looks sh*t, it doesn't f*cking work, it's so bloody hard to navigate, still don't have a flipping clue who I'm playing in my head to head leagues, you can't see a list of each players score from each fixture, Jasskeleinen has 24 points and Mignolet 12 which is yet another bug, and everyone's done sh*t which doesn't help.

But probably the worse of the lot is the horrendous BPs. I mean how the f*ck can De Gea, the worth keeper in the league this weekend by a mile, come second in the PPI for keepers. Meanwhile Given who effectively won his team a point is below him and doesn't even get a point. In fact in a 0-0 game, all 3 allocations went to forwards... And don't get me started on the CHEvSTK game. Huth, Shawcross, Woodgate, Alex should have walked it, but the 3 and 2 go to Cashley(who I have in my team but I don't deserve BPs for) and Mikel!!

At least they fixed the live score updates...

Surely it can't be too late to change back to the old site. Better late than never!! Please can we have the FPL we know and love back because this is pure SH*T.

I haven't included their infrastructure issues, only interested in site functionality

        1) slow loading each page
        2) missing dream team
        3) missing highest score of the week
        4) hyperlinks from the gameweek fixtures which link nowhere
        5) missing fantasy stats menu, for league of leagues, team value league etc.
        6) gameweek points not viewable by default because the ‘Latest points’ menu item has been dropped
        7) extra click to view other team scores because we’re forced to click on gameweek number (previously it was a drop down option)
8 ) you can view other teams transfers
        9) you can view whether other team has played wildcard (this is inadvertently a good feature)
        10) have to page down just to view your team
        11) Captains(c) and Vice Captains(v) icons bugged, doesn’t always show the vice captain icon
        11) H2H fixtures not viewable
        12) The forum messages are light grey on lighter grey, and have no pages.
        13) missing drop down option to look at prices rises/falls

FPL: "B*ggered if we know - we changed everything, even the good bits, and nothing's working."

FFS: "Some of our guys are getting a bit p*ssed off"

          Just a few comments:

          9) You could view this last year, by looking at their transfer history, even if it was being played in the current week it would say "played wildcard week 23" etc

          21) May be wrong here, but doesn't it say in the rules that this will happen in the case of a tie?

          16) and 17) Yeah this is a problem, but just in case people don't know: for anyone stuck on a mobile, you can always delete the "m." part at the start of the url to get onto the main website

Just had a look and they still have no obvious way of seeing how the player's scores are broken down. All you can see is their total points, rather than how many goals, assists etc. unlinke in the FPL where you can just click on a match and it will show you all the details or you can go into the fantasy points menu.

      Oh wait......

The Sky Sports game has been odd, last time i tried logging in an hour or so ago it was down for maintenance (as it was during the Saturday games).

But last night I did get on and the scores are only half there. It gives my team a score but on the actual team display page only 5 or 6 players actually show points and while i'm looking at it my points FALL, from 14, down to 12 and down to 9 then 8! As players that are showing points slowly go back to not having the points displayed under them.

        I have a sinking feeling ...

I think we've all been conned - there are so many problems that the situation may be irrecoverable.

        🙁

One of the best things about the old site was looking back over player's scores and stats week by week looking for trends in scores, if they were streaky or consistent etc.

Doesn't look like I get this anymore. Guesswork it is then...

Google "FISO crack the code". In short, owenership and net transfers in/out plus other factors. Too complex for any 1 man to understand.

About 30,000. Transfers out are a bit more complicated, if 10% of people who own a player sell him, his price will drop by 0.1.

So if Carroll is owned by 300,000 people, his price will drop if 30,000 people sell him.
