Not a bad debut for half an hour, was it? Sergio Aguero’s star turn at the Etihad Stadium has many a Fantasy manager scrambling for a way to fit him in their shiny new Wildcard team ahead of Gameweek 2. According to Roberto Mancini, he’s not even 100% fit yet. Let’s hope they give him penalties, too. Here’s the Scout Notes from last night:

Mancini Tries a 4-4-2
Roberto Mancini dropped Mario Balotelli to the bench for the home game with Swansea. Adam Johnson took the Italian’s place as new boy Gael Clichy started at left-back at the expense of Aleksander Kolarov as Mancini started with a 4-2-3-1. While there’s no doubt about the star of the show, it was noticeable that Sergio Aguero replaced Nigel de Jong upon his introduction.

This allowed City to play him alongside Edin Dzeko up top in a 4-4-2, with Yaya Toure bombing forward from a regular central midfield position. Not to take anything away from Aguero’s performance, of course, but this change in personnel and shape from Mancini helped City really take the game to the Swans. It will be interesting to see if this becomes a more prominent formation for City over the months ahead- certainly, it makes them a better proposition going forward and Aguero has already shown what returns he can offer.

Mancini’s introduction of another new boy, Stefan Savic, also saw another alteration- Joleon Lescott movd to left-back and Gael Clichy played at left midfield in place of the withdrawn Adam Johnson.

Swans Keep on Passing
Brandan Rodgers kept to his passing principles last night. Swansea had the greater possession at the Etihad Stadium and made more passes than any Premier League team over the course of Gameweek1 , but a lack of cutting edge saw the Swans swept aside. Michael Vorm’s debut in the Swansea was almost as eye-catching as Aguero’s- the new signing from Utrecht made an incredible 12 saves, with some of them outstanding stops.

Sweansea’s 4-3-3 was pretty lop-sided; Scott Sinclair was higher and wider up the pitch on the left in comparison to Nathan Dyer on the other flank. Dyer was far narrower and deeper, which enabled Angel Rangel to bomb forward down the flank on numerous occasions.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

    Knee-jerk or good decisions long term?

    Nani -> Young
    Who is guaranteed most starts? Young on freekicks and corners is a big plus

    Drogba -> Torres
    Torres seems to be the main man this season, with Drogba risk for being rotated. However he likes to scor big vs WBA.

    Carroll -> Suarez
    Really not sure about this one. Yes Suarez is the better player, but FPL wise I think Carroll will be good this year.

    And of course if I make the trades, the transferred out players will score big in GW2.

    Assuming that prices are frozen this week then it may be worth a punt on players like Carrol, Drogba and Taraabt who have had a big drop in ownership already. If that trend continues they will be owned by so few that if they score/assist and the masses jump back on them then their prices will rocket. Or am I missing something?

    I know Drogba in particular is a gamble, but worth keeping an eye on?

      How much is N.Taylor? Because he'll be back in when his suspension is over. Caulker seems the safer pick, they've been unable to sign Ayala and Tate was at left back last night to accomodate Caulker. With Alex, where is Ivanovic going to play, if he does. Bosingwa is more an AVB type full back. Then there's Luiz to consider. Also, Alex is rumoured to be unsettled in the Uk and wants to move. Sorry for indecisiveness, but hopefully some decent info.

        You make some very good points, cheers. If AVB is going to chose Bosingwa at Stoke, surely the first game you'd want Ivanovic at RB for, then perhaps he sees Bosingwa as his first choice RB. And he's spoken a few times about the importance of the full backs overlapping etc... Perhaps a ballsy punt on Bosingwa could be the way forward! 😕

            I think it will be Taylor also, but (as with last season), Brendan may start the season with the older head and Tatey didn't disgrace himself last night.

            For me, Taylor is 70:30 over Tate to get the nod on Saturday.

    Repost

    For those attempting to make .1m on their budget by getting in players who may rise in price by .2m over the next few days; First off, this scenario seems very unlikely, I think the most probable outcome is that prices are frozen until after the GW2 deadline. According to TFPL Gary Cahill was very likley to rise in price overnight, this did not happen and may indicate there will be no price changes. We have had no confirmation on price rises/falls though, as such I myself couldn’t avoid the chance and brought in a few bandwagon players. Even then making .1m is not my primary concern.

    I personally would be more worried about losing .1m on players currently in my team dropping in price as there will be a lot of ins and outs now. For example RVP may be shipped out in high numbers to accomodate the likes of Aguero/Rooney/Suarez).

    My secondary concern would then be not being able to afford the extra .1m for any players that do go up that I may eventually want.

    Only then would I think about playing the buy-to-sell market. So if there are price changes look out for price falls first and price rises in lucrative players second.

      Agree. I think price falls would be a reason for FPL to freeze prices this week. Can you imagine how many people would be annoyed by firstly not being able to make changes last week and then finding out their team value has dropped because they didn't find out about the GW2 WC straight away.
