Not a bad debut for half an hour, was it? Sergio Aguero’s star turn at the Etihad Stadium has many a Fantasy manager scrambling for a way to fit him in their shiny new Wildcard team ahead of Gameweek 2. According to Roberto Mancini, he’s not even 100% fit yet. Let’s hope they give him penalties, too. Here’s the Scout Notes from last night:

Mancini Tries a 4-4-2
Roberto Mancini dropped Mario Balotelli to the bench for the home game with Swansea. Adam Johnson took the Italian’s place as new boy Gael Clichy started at left-back at the expense of Aleksander Kolarov as Mancini started with a 4-2-3-1. While there’s no doubt about the star of the show, it was noticeable that Sergio Aguero replaced Nigel de Jong upon his introduction.

This allowed City to play him alongside Edin Dzeko up top in a 4-4-2, with Yaya Toure bombing forward from a regular central midfield position. Not to take anything away from Aguero’s performance, of course, but this change in personnel and shape from Mancini helped City really take the game to the Swans. It will be interesting to see if this becomes a more prominent formation for City over the months ahead- certainly, it makes them a better proposition going forward and Aguero has already shown what returns he can offer.

Mancini’s introduction of another new boy, Stefan Savic, also saw another alteration- Joleon Lescott movd to left-back and Gael Clichy played at left midfield in place of the withdrawn Adam Johnson.

Swans Keep on Passing
Brandan Rodgers kept to his passing principles last night. Swansea had the greater possession at the Etihad Stadium and made more passes than any Premier League team over the course of Gameweek1 , but a lack of cutting edge saw the Swans swept aside. Michael Vorm’s debut in the Swansea was almost as eye-catching as Aguero’s- the new signing from Utrecht made an incredible 12 saves, with some of them outstanding stops.

Sweansea’s 4-3-3 was pretty lop-sided; Scott Sinclair was higher and wider up the pitch on the left in comparison to Nathan Dyer on the other flank. Dyer was far narrower and deeper, which enabled Angel Rangel to bomb forward down the flank on numerous occasions.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

I'm prob choosing Jarvis, as general influence around the park (key for O'Hara's good return over past two years) doesn't seem as important for bonus points.

Really surpised by the lack of Baines in peoples teams.

I didnt orginially have him but considering the fixtures including an iminent DGW and the fact that maurding full backs seem to be favouried in the bap system with the likes of Cole, Richards & De Laet scoring high in the PPI, he looks pretty damn tempting.

Having both hamstrings your team way too much. I've downgraded Cole to Bosingwa, freeing up 2 million to soften the blow of bringing in Baines. I know Bosingwa is a risk in the medium-long term but I reckon/hope he's likely to start for Chelsea's dream next 2 GWs

I am afraid of him being rotated, and also overrated. I mean he came in when Swansea were down 1-0 and not much energy left...

            My knee-jerk considerations are:
Nani -> Young (will he get more playtime?
Drogba -> Torres (maybe a no-brainer long term since Torres seems to be the main man)
Carroll -> Suarez (is the better player, but Carroll seems good FPL-wise)

I think there is a rotation risk too but he's such a good FPL fit, he wants to score rather than assist and is very direct. Should be plenty of time before defenders even start to figure him out. I'm going to risk it.

About the other three I'm sticking with Nani and will have a second look when/if he's first rotated. Still reckon he'll outscore Young.

Torres is one I will buy too, fixtures are so good and he was sharper. Might backfire.

Suarez over Carroll for me, looks a certain for bonus points and was lively.

                Excellent advice, appreciate it.

What do you think of rotation risk with Nani/Young when Valencia is back though? End of last season Valencia was preferred over Nani in a few matches. And you are not knee-jerking Rooney in?

It would be just my luck that Drogba starts, then goes and scores a hat-trick if I transfer him out for Torres (same with Carroll who should be good vs Arsenal), but this is short term thinking though...

First of all I should say I think the United situation is tough. We're helped out a bit in that their fixtures are tough too so it's not like you have to triple up unless you want to.

I just think that Nani is more of a goal scorer than Young and that when it happens might seal him the bonus points too. Nani wasn't good last time out but still had two great chances which could easily have gone in. About the rotation I just don't know, Young is probably a more certain starter but I will work around it by deciding when Nani is first rotated. Nani was fatigued at the time Valencia was back last season, I don't think he will be dropped if he shows the form I expect him too.

On Rooney I'm just praying he stays quiet. He looked really promising against WBA but I also do think it was a bit of a nothing goal and that not that many other chances fell to him. I reckon he will tear up the bonus charts which is bad for me. I'll get him when fixtures are better if he keeps performing.

Also dislike losing Carroll but will have to. Want Suarez more and he's cheaper.

There's some wasted cash in there such as Enrique (when are you going to play him with his fixtrues and teh rest of your defense) and Moses (again, when will you choose to play him, may as well go for a 4.5).

Bent seems like a lot compared to Suarez and Aguero, not much love for Taarabt since the weekend. Liking the unusual inclusion of Jgs and Saha though.

I'll play Enrique next week Bolton(H). He rotates perfectly with Jags. Bent is in there for his two fixtures. Don't fancy Suarez against Arsenal, could be tempted by Aguero if its confirmed he'll start. I have 1.0 in the bank to make that swap. Moses looked dangerous against Norwich, he has two good fixtures, i'll play him for both. Taarabt is in there becasue he rotates perfectly with Sinclair. He showed glimpses that he is capable of a big score.

So whats the consensus on Baines? Are people ignoring him or getting him?
I can't decide, it feels like he's a must but my team looks much stronger without him.

I like the sound of it. My RMT is very similar. I really think that we should hold tight on Lampard. Not convinced by Malouda..

Torres and Drogba just too risky with Anelka, Kalou, and soon Lukaku and Sturridge waiting on the bench.

well his index is way better than Malouda for GW1 and he nearly got a pen..

I just feel that the 1.5m money spread between malouda and lampard is not that wide given his influence and the fact that he takes pens, corners and some FKs.

      Ok, here we go.

I don't see any team with Lampard and I feel that he might be the right differential for the next two games where Drogba, Torres and Malouda could share game time.

      Given - Ruddy
      Smalling - Kompany - Bosingwa - Enrique - (Simpson)
      Silva - Lampard - Sinclair - Tchoyi - (Moses)
      Rooney - Suarez - (Holt)

      How does it look?

I think it's a farce that players can share bonus points. Massively unfair that FOUR players in a non-event like the Stoke vs Chelsea game can get 2 bonus each just for being equally bad.

They should find a way to separate them, can't be that hard.

this whole stat system is a farce. I rarely complained about the old system, thought it was one of fpl's best aspects. Football isnt a statistics game, regardless of what the yanks say.
Malouda the best player in the league is all you need to know about the "index"

Yeah it's bit annoying that silva gets 30 ppi and gets 1 bp while 6 spackers have a mare in the Chelsea game and share 11 bps between them despite only getting half the ppi.

Is it just me or does the new bonus system not really reward midfielders as much as forwards and backs.

Specifically in reference to the level of bonus given to Silva and Moses.

Looking at the distribution of bonus for the weekend, not a great return for midfielders in general too.

      Thoughts?

Good thing is after weeks of considering our original teams this wc is a piece of cake.
Only conundrum for me comes down to
aguero & dobbie (dobbie to be used for home games vs wig & wba)
      or
      silva/young & s.fletcher (home games vs ful & qpr)

which way would ye fine folk lean?

        Cole Baines Brown Taylor Gabbidon
Arteta Moses Tchoyi N Dyer Sessegnon
        Rooney Bent Torres

So pretty weak midfield but think they could all do a job. Could always downgrade Bent to Zamora and upgrade 1/2 of midfielders
