Not a bad debut for half an hour, was it? Sergio Aguero’s star turn at the Etihad Stadium has many a Fantasy manager scrambling for a way to fit him in their shiny new Wildcard team ahead of Gameweek 2. According to Roberto Mancini, he’s not even 100% fit yet. Let’s hope they give him penalties, too. Here’s the Scout Notes from last night:

Mancini Tries a 4-4-2
Roberto Mancini dropped Mario Balotelli to the bench for the home game with Swansea. Adam Johnson took the Italian’s place as new boy Gael Clichy started at left-back at the expense of Aleksander Kolarov as Mancini started with a 4-2-3-1. While there’s no doubt about the star of the show, it was noticeable that Sergio Aguero replaced Nigel de Jong upon his introduction.

This allowed City to play him alongside Edin Dzeko up top in a 4-4-2, with Yaya Toure bombing forward from a regular central midfield position. Not to take anything away from Aguero’s performance, of course, but this change in personnel and shape from Mancini helped City really take the game to the Swans. It will be interesting to see if this becomes a more prominent formation for City over the months ahead- certainly, it makes them a better proposition going forward and Aguero has already shown what returns he can offer.

Mancini’s introduction of another new boy, Stefan Savic, also saw another alteration- Joleon Lescott movd to left-back and Gael Clichy played at left midfield in place of the withdrawn Adam Johnson.

Swans Keep on Passing
Brandan Rodgers kept to his passing principles last night. Swansea had the greater possession at the Etihad Stadium and made more passes than any Premier League team over the course of Gameweek1 , but a lack of cutting edge saw the Swans swept aside. Michael Vorm’s debut in the Swansea was almost as eye-catching as Aguero’s- the new signing from Utrecht made an incredible 12 saves, with some of them outstanding stops.

Sweansea’s 4-3-3 was pretty lop-sided; Scott Sinclair was higher and wider up the pitch on the left in comparison to Nathan Dyer on the other flank. Dyer was far narrower and deeper, which enabled Angel Rangel to bomb forward down the flank on numerous occasions.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Haha. Considering Beckford over Saha? Both have a similar goals per min ratio. Use the extra million to squeeze in a Chelsea defender?

Nah, I think Saha will be on penalites, and is just a lot better than Beckford.

Bosingwa is in mine at the moment, so covered there. I think he'll play the next two, and that's all I'm planning at the moment. WC after that. Maybe.

Does anyone know if the prices will be frozen for this game week?

If they are not frozen is there scope for a FFS ambush to inflate the value of our teams?

If we all had an agreed set of 15 players to buy today their prices would all go up by at least 0.2 mill. We could all then sell them tomorrow and pocket the 1.5mill and buy another agreed set of 15 players and repeat again.

The value of the teams with an affiliation to FFS could all realistically be 6mill higher than the rest of the population by the start of GW2!!!!

I have shipped in all those that would rise under normal circumstances and will see what happens. Nothing really to lose, if they go up it would be worth doing, if they don't I'll trade out again at weeks end.

I think a Chelsea defender is essential this week, but I'm not convinced they'll smash WBA. I think a grafted 2-0 win. No major hauls to be had. Someone convince me I need a Chelsea attacker for the next two weeks.

    Hey 'Yesot', how you doing?
Bit annoyed by this ‘free week’ – as thought i had set up ok for first 10 ish weeks. You still thinking of playing the fixtures (Torres/Lamps/Baines) or go longer term (Suarez/Aguero/Rooney). I’m currently thinking of the latter. Cant believe how skewed the PPI’s are to scoring a goal and how players get punished for intercepted passes + shots off target!
What are your thoughts on Nzogbia as well? I still think he might be a cheaper way in Villa's fixtures
(bad start for Bristol City by the way...esp first game of the season! Jamo up to his old tricks again!)

Ok, fair play he did do rather well but Aguero comes on for possibly the easiest 30 mins anyone could ever ask for in a premier league game. against the worst team (only judging by last seasons league positions) in the league who are already 1-0 down and phyically worn out after holding the richest team on the planet 0-0 for 60 mins...
Lets see how well he does at Bolton and Spurs. Oh and Tevez and Balotelli are on the bench twitching.

I'm going for a three big gun striker policy.

    lots of good 6-7.5 mids

kompany baines and a cheap defenders approach.

There is just so much choice among good expensive strikers and so much choice in good mid priced mids that it seems the best way.

rooney - Aguero - Suarez - Bent - Torres - Carrol - RVP .....not having three of them just seems wrong.

lol... from what i understand missing shots will take points away from a player in the index (for the BPS). so basicly if a strikers does 2 shots the whole game and gets two goals, is better than a striker who makes 4 shots and scores two goals...

A striker with 100% accuracy is better than a striker with 50% accuracy? When they score the same number of goals?

      Um... That sounds pretty reasonable.

More to the point a striker who has no shots on goal is better than one who has 5 shots that hit the post.

According to the PPI that takes points away for shots off target.

this basically makes the Scout index a mixed blessing as it shows the potential for goals, but also the potential for missing out on bonus through missing shots. Carroll for example had loads of shots at goal ...that ended up counting against him. This is why Suarez, with fewer shots but the ability to do something special is a better prospect imo.

But that is just the prospect of getting more baps – which is fine – but the prospect of scoring more goals is more valuable long term surely?

That's why its a mixed blessing. Agree though prefer to have someone who gets in scoring positions over someone that doesn't. Luckily there's so much choice of players that can do both.

Did Silva get a BP then? People saying he did but he had 8 points last night and hasn't gained any for me... (Can't see details and on roaming charge in Portugal so limited Internet!) Bit crap if he didn't as he was far better than Dzecko.
