Not a bad debut for half an hour, was it? Sergio Aguero’s star turn at the Etihad Stadium has many a Fantasy manager scrambling for a way to fit him in their shiny new Wildcard team ahead of Gameweek 2. According to Roberto Mancini, he’s not even 100% fit yet. Let’s hope they give him penalties, too. Here’s the Scout Notes from last night:

Mancini Tries a 4-4-2
Roberto Mancini dropped Mario Balotelli to the bench for the home game with Swansea. Adam Johnson took the Italian’s place as new boy Gael Clichy started at left-back at the expense of Aleksander Kolarov as Mancini started with a 4-2-3-1. While there’s no doubt about the star of the show, it was noticeable that Sergio Aguero replaced Nigel de Jong upon his introduction.

This allowed City to play him alongside Edin Dzeko up top in a 4-4-2, with Yaya Toure bombing forward from a regular central midfield position. Not to take anything away from Aguero’s performance, of course, but this change in personnel and shape from Mancini helped City really take the game to the Swans. It will be interesting to see if this becomes a more prominent formation for City over the months ahead- certainly, it makes them a better proposition going forward and Aguero has already shown what returns he can offer.

Mancini’s introduction of another new boy, Stefan Savic, also saw another alteration- Joleon Lescott movd to left-back and Gael Clichy played at left midfield in place of the withdrawn Adam Johnson.

Swans Keep on Passing
Brandan Rodgers kept to his passing principles last night. Swansea had the greater possession at the Etihad Stadium and made more passes than any Premier League team over the course of Gameweek1 , but a lack of cutting edge saw the Swans swept aside. Michael Vorm’s debut in the Swansea was almost as eye-catching as Aguero’s- the new signing from Utrecht made an incredible 12 saves, with some of them outstanding stops.

Sweansea’s 4-3-3 was pretty lop-sided; Scott Sinclair was higher and wider up the pitch on the left in comparison to Nathan Dyer on the other flank. Dyer was far narrower and deeper, which enabled Angel Rangel to bomb forward down the flank on numerous occasions.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

And if they manage to f*ck that up and don't give you back your points you will be right annoyed and won't want to play their stupid broken game anyways. Thus your score won't matter will it? In the meantime just amuse yourself by winding up anyone who asks about it. I have invented the stipulation that you had to have attempted to log into FPL 1 hour before GW1 deadline and fail to be eligible. Plenty of mileage in that 😀

They have said points hits wont count. Even in the absolute worst case scenario and they are still on at the start of the gameweek – they can take them off

I think what will happen later today is wildcard mode will be activated for all managers – then at least this whinging can stop

Malouda is worrying me. Sounds like he played badly vs Stoke. Then again torres has a low index score and well Drogba did not even start.

Malouda used to be a bit of a bully at home vs weaker teams so next 2 could be productive(If he plays)

It would be a lot easier to Get Drog/Torres for the next 2 and then swapping to Rvp/Kun in gw 4.

    😕

This is why i hate these unlimited transfers. I was happy with my squad, i would have kept Malouda, now there is too much temptation to completely change my team for GW2. I know the players i take out will end up doing well!

I can always transfer in Aguero in a week or two.

im thinking of taking Silva out. worried his all round play wont get rewarded with bonus's. You need consistent goal scorers. Thinking Aguero now (which is a shame as i like Silva @ 9.5m)

The bonus points are a farce. How can 2 Fulham strikers, Johnson and Zamora, get 3 and 2 respectively in a 0-0 draw and Given none when he earned Villa the draw with some high class saves. It was a better system last year but so was the site, of course. I can't even find out who got the third bp, presumably a Villa forward. Gabby perhaps? What a joke!

Stikers getting the baps in 0-0 s does not make sense i agree. Suuerly by definition, the defenders have been good and the strikers not good to put it very basically.

my understanding is that for the goaie to make the saves in the first instance requires strikers to be firing shots at goal for him to save them; therefore the new BP system favours those who make the shots rather than the one who is saving them...

        ...i think...!!???

There was an article posted a few days ago (I think on this site) that basically shows the new 'objective' bonus point system to be massively in favour of the strikers (then midfielders, then defenders etc). It's a shame as I quite enjoyed the old subjective system...

Aguero is a definite starter now. While City struggled all game to find that first goal, he found his first in minutes. He's a level above. A star of stars. I think that all talk of "match fitness" goes out the window now that Mancini has seen how readily Aguero can get him goals.

Drog starting seems doubtful, AVB will tinker a lot this year but surely not this early with Torres playing well at the weekend. I'd say Torres is a better option than Aguero right now but Aguero's price could skyrocket if he does anything at all.

The thing with getting all three is I'd then have two 4.0s who were basically just a waste of space in my team. Unless at times I played 4-3-3. Baines may not have played yet but still feels like an absolute must.

So re: latest ffs mass knee jerk. Anyone think it might be a bit early to declare aguero a better option than Silva? Great player yes but half hour at home vs a tired swansea isn't really comparable with the upcoming away games vs bol, tot & ful. Silva is very much their key player and we know he'll deliver week in week out.
Not to mention the price difference.

Two goals and an assist in 30 mins on your debut can't be ignored just cause it was Swansea I don't think.

      Dammit.

I was hoping others in my league would see I'd brought in Cahill and follow suit. 🙂

I can't decide who to get rid of in my midfield, I want Sessegnon in, who would you remove:

    Moses | Taarabt | N'Zog | Silva | Sinclair

All have decent upcoming fixtures :/

n'zog has 2 home games, but then again I also have Bent, so is that overdoing it?

Presently contemplating switching Silva for Yaya, that extra money would go a long way elsewhere. I'm gonna have Aguero long term anyway, but I want one of these two. I love Silva, but last night had he not scored it would've been a "same old story" kind of thing and Yaya matched his index score despite not scoring.

      was thinking the same thing...

not to mention Yaya almost scored twice but was robbed by Vorm and he was right in the attack

One issue is what happens if they play Dzeko and Aguero...it's a 4-4-2 but Yaya will naturally be a bit deeper than if De Jong and Barry are both playing.

The move to two up front saw him bombing forward a lot...

Yeah. Also away from home I still see them playing 4-5-1 quite a lot. Think this has made up my mind xD

Only issue is Silva leaves more room to get VDV in down the line.

Yaya playing defensive is a myth. He's clearly allowed to get forward in Mancini's system.

    RE: Aguero.

I totally see the logic in holding back from getting him in this week, but the fact is every bugger and their dog are transfering him in. It's a defensive move, but I'm thinking of having him just because the main crowd will + his price will go up if he scores again.

Also, in terms of overall points, are we starting from 0 again GW2? If so, this is boll*cks.

no, you keep your GW1 points. its just that league administrators have the option of starting the scoring for their league from GW2, but its their choice whether they do it or not.

damned if you do (he doesn’t score this week or next)

damned if you don’t (his value will rocket anyway making him more expensive when you want to buy him when his fixtures get better)

call me crazy, but I think Drogba is the one to have for the next 2 gameweeks.

AVB has to start him this time around and at home for both matches with definitely something to prove, I think Drogba will try his best to show AVB and everyone else who the top forward is on that team.

    think he’ll have a a blinder

Having a Chelsea striker for gw2/3 will make it a lot easier to get Kun/Rvp in gw 4.

      But who?

Yeah, I'm not totally convinced Drogba is out of the picture based on just one match.

Anyone else reckon Fergie might plump for Valencia over Nani to help deal with the Bale threat next weekend???

Also, is having both Silva and Aguero too much reliance on Citeh when three of their next four games involve potentially tricky trips to Bolton, Spurs and Fulham?

    Thoughts please folks...

valencia not fully fit - he didnt even make reserves yesterday.

silva and aguero is too much imo, their are better fixtures elsewhere.
