Blackburn fail in Raul swoop. Sneijder to United seems less likely. Artetaโ€™s back on the radar for the QPR game after playing in Everton friendly. Chelsea are not giving up on Modric and Samir Nasri denies Facebook comments and insists the account is a fake. Hereโ€™s this morningโ€™s Scribbles, folks:

Man Unitedโ€™s attempts to sign Wesley Sneijder look to be scuppered. Inter Milan president Masimo Moratti has indicated the Dutchman is likely to remain at the San Siro now, with Samuel Etoโ€™o on the verge of leaving the Italian giants. Moratti told La Gazzetta del Sport:

Sneijder away? For Wes there has never been any sort of negotiation. If Eto’o leaves, he remains. Sneijder was untouchable even before this hypothesis, now it is even more so. Sneijder will remain.

If this is the case, United youngster Tom Cleverley could be set to play a more prominent part in the clubโ€™s season than previously anticipated. Cleverley has already impressed this season, with his second half performance in the Community Shield resulting in a start at the expense of Ryan Giggs in last weekโ€™s opener at West Brom.

Samir Nasri is the latest player to be caught in a social network controversy. Nasri has moved to distance himself from a Facebook account that claimed he would be leaving Arsenal with โ€œbitterness and angerโ€. The Frenchman used his official Twitter page to deny the claims this morning , assuring Gunners fans the account is a fake. The player didnโ€™t take too kindly to chants from the clubโ€™s fans at the Newcastle game on Saturday and is surely now edging that little bit closer to the rumoured move to Man City.

Martin Jol is in the market for another striker. Fulhamโ€™s no score draw in Gameweek 1 has Jol eyeing up former club Ajax for more firepower, with a move for out-of-favour Mounir El Hamdaoui on the cards. Jol had previously signed the player during his stint at the Dutch giants and admitted heโ€™s weighing up a move for the twenty-seven year-old:

It’s not unthinkable for me to sign Mounir. He is incredibly honest and amazingly direct. He could be a pleasant surprise.

The agent of Niko Krancjar has suggested his client is on the verge of a move to Sunderland. In spite of acquiring ten players this summer, Steve Bruce still feels changes need be made to the Black Cats squad and Krancjar would definitely add a touch of class to his current crop of players.

Still on the subject of Spurs and midfielders, free agent Thomas Hitzlsperger has been training with Harry Redknappโ€™s side and a possible move to White Hart Lane may well be on the cards for the German international.

Edin Dzeko reckons heโ€™s in for a big season. The Bosnian played well as a lone front man then as part of a pairing at the Etihad Stadium on Monday night, though his performance was somewhat put in the shade by a certain Sergio Aguero. Dzeko praised Aguero before going on to say:

The beginnings have always been slow for me, and that was the case at City, but this year I feel fit and I feel very good. I feel much better than last season. For every player it is important to be fit and have a good pre-season behind him. This summer I have done everything with the team and that makes you feel better.I want to improve in every game, but I have started the season well.

Evertonโ€™s delayed start to the season has given Mikel Arteta the chance to recover from a foot injury. The playmaker returned to action in a friendly against Irish side Bohemians earlier in the week and with David Moyesโ€™ side facing QPR this weekend, should find himself the subject of Fantasy investment. Arteta declared after the game:

I’ve been working really hard in the last 10 days and we’ll see how I do in the game against QPR. I will tell you how far I am off full fitness after the game on Saturday.

Blackburn have failed in an audacious swoop for legendary striker Raul. The Ewood Park outfit slapped in a bid for the Schalke starโ€™s services, but Raul -a close friend of Rovers right-back Michel Salgado- is said to have rejected the offer out of hand and asked his club to turn down any offers from Steve Keanโ€™s side.

Kieran Gibbs and Johan Djourou added to Arsene Wengerโ€™s woes last night. The pair limped out of the Gunners nervy 1-0 win over Udinese and the club announced on their official website after the match that they are likely to miss this weekendโ€™s Emirates clash with Liverpool.

Chelseaโ€™s pursuit of Luka Modric shows no sign of abating. With last seasonโ€™s runners-up unwilling to spend any more than ยฃ30m, they are considering offering both Yossi Benayoun and Salomon Kalou as part of the deal that would bring the little Croatian to Stamford Bridge. With a 25 man squad to be submitted to the Premier League next month, this would also free up a space in Andre Villas-Boasโ€™ thinking and may prove to be the better option.

I think we can afford one more week. If everyone gets him in now and he has 40% ownership, there won't be much room for his price to rise.

Just make sure you can get him next week if necessary.

DBR, yeah the plan at the moment is do a team for just GW's 2&3, then WC in GW4.

A pretty phenomenal team (on paper at least) can be set up for just those two weeks, all 11 at home first week then 9 home the next (only Baines and Saha away) against teams you'd fancy them to do well against. That your thinking too?

I did it yesterday on the home pc and saved a picture of it there, then chaged it all back to he ones who may rise in price so this may not be exactly it, but pretty much:

        Given - Vorm
        Baines - Bosingwa - Warnock - R.Johnson - Simpson
        Lampard - Sess - Sinclair - Moses/Watson - Can't remember who this was
Torres - Saha - Bent (can be changed to Suarez/Carroll in GW3 if I want).

I like it. Similar to mine but I've got Cole and Yaya instead of Bos and Lamps - bit more future proof imo. Is Jarvis your last mid?

WC may not even be necessary.

I've only £5.5M on the last mid, so it can't be (he's more isnt he?).

I'm going to have a proper look over the next few days, but as you said WC may not need to be used.

Save next weeks transfer, then Lampard, Torres & Saha can come out for Ramsey, RVP & Aguero for thier nice run of fixtures from GW4 for just a four point hit. Need to see how the mid-priced players rotate for a good few weeks really.

Why so keen on Suarez? Hard fixtures over the next few games. Arsenal have kept 2 clean sheets in a row and Suarez may not get as much freedom with Vermaelen on top of him

lampard or torres for the next 2 weeks, i just can't decide

lampard has set pieces and pens to fall back on
torres is easier to fit in my team, but i always have that niggling doubt that he may be rested

Rovers - I have smae dillema. Who to get for Chelsea attacking in gw2/3.

Problem for me is I can't see myself (c) torres if I do get him and surely Chelsea gives one the best capt option this week.

Sorry, that wasn't particularly helpful. I just think both will do pretty well in the near future. People are banging on about Malouda looking sluggish etc but Stoke away from home first game of the season is nowhere near enough to write him off. I'm keeping him for the next couple of (relatively) easy home games, where he's traditionally scored well, and if there's any sign of him losing his place or he doesn't do well at all in that time then off he goes. As for Silva, he needs no introduction, perhaps the safer bet but Malouda has previous against the likes of WBA.

Yeah I predicted on twitter the day he signed that he'd win the golden boot this season or next. There are only a couple of players in the league who are as natural goal scorers as him and in teams that will score much.

I think this team is really balanced and looks good for future gameweeks.

    Given (Vorm)
A.Cole, Kompany, Hughes (Simpson, De Laet)
    Malouda, Silva, Sinclair, Moses (Brunt)
    Rooney(V), Bent(C), Holt

    Thoughts?

Any absolute no-no's with this team?

    Given | Al-Habsi
    Baines | Richards | Enrique | Gabbidon | Simpson
    Downing | N'Zogbia | Osman | Sinclair | Moses
    Rooney | Torres (c) | Zamora

Only changes from my GW1 team =
Hughes, Nani, Carroll >>> Baines, Osman, Torres

I'm not Osman's biggest fan when it comes to fantasy football, but that's your call. Rest looks solid; keep an eye on Jol signing that striker from Ajax, it's within the realms of possibility that Zamora spends the odd week rested. Pure speculation at this point though.

Obertan, Tchoyi, Lucas, Cleverley, Hoolahan - which is the best 5.5ish player out there for next few-5 fixtures? Is Obertan a potential?

In the interest of comedy, have you seen Boltons upcoming 7 fixtures?? It couldnt be worse for them could it? At least they have a win under their belts!

Tchoyi will play until either Gera or Odemwingie start but will then be a rotation risk.
      Hoolahan is nailed on.
Cleverley a good punt but rotation risk.
Lucas - defensive mid - might get bonus if you're very lucky...
Obertan - Newcastles fixtures are decent but he's a wild punt.

Warren buffets piece is refreshing in this age.

Guy is multi multi millionaire (maybe billionaire?)

and is asking for the taxes on the super rich to be raised. He pay lower tax rates than people he employs.

    Good move. http://www.nytimes.com/2011/08/15/opinion/stop-coddling-the-super-rich.html?_r=1
