The second gameweek of the Premier League season comes to a close tonight at Old Trafford, as champions Manchester United play host to a Tottenham Hotspur side belatedly starting their league campaign. The Dugout Discussion chatroom is open for business, so come in and take a seat whilst we mull over the all-important team news…

Injuries force Sir Alex to play an extremely young defence who, along with goalkeeper David De Gea, have an average age of just 22. Unforced however, is the youth in attack for the home side, who also have Javier Hernandez back in their match-day squad.

Man United XI: De Gea, Smalling, Jones, Evans, Evra, Anderson, Cleverley, Nani, Young, Rooney, Welbeck

As for the visitors, Luka Modric didn’t take the trip up the M1 because, according to Spurs boss Harry Redknapp, “his head isn’t right” with speculation about his future still rife. Elsewhere, Brad Friedel makes his club debut and Jake Livermore starts after scoring midweek at Tynecastle.

Spurs XI: Friedel; Walker, Dawson, Kaboul, Assou-Ekotto; Lennon, Kranjcar, Livermore, Bale; Van der Vaart; Defoe

Take a pew in the Dugout Discussion chatroom, where you can follow all the action from tonight’s game.

Sp*rs are having a lot of shots.

Redknapp 100% told his team to shoot on site because "their 'keeper is a bit dodgy from long range shots."

Not a tactic that's worked too well.

So, Man U comfortable in the end. Spurs looked OK in patches and passed the ball around nicely but had nothing in the final third. We also gave the ball away a bit too easily.

Defoe (who I usually have a lot of time for) just isn't up to it. He doesn't pass enough and on the rare occasion that he does it's shockingly bad. We need a new striker... now (well, in the next week or so anyway).

Smalling and Jones were excellent and Young looked good too, especially against the slow donkey that is Corluka.

Oh and De Gea will be an excellent keeper but at the moment looks very shakey when anything remotely challenging comes his way. Sadly Spurs don't have a striker to exploit this.

Was poor but you can't expect him to win every game single-handedly (not convinced he's in great condition either - read: fat). Needs a striker to play with him... and Defoe isn't the man to do it.

Missed a few chances but scored in the end with a decent header. The game was even up to half time and United dominated the rest of the game, don't expect many bonus points for Rooney though. Welbeck should get 3 and possibly Anderson with 2.

best player on the park as usual. whether or not that equates to maximum BPs i'm not sure. under the old system it would have probably been:

      Welbeck 3 (goal & assist)
