The second gameweek of the Premier League season comes to a close tonight at Old Trafford, as champions Manchester United play host to a Tottenham Hotspur side belatedly starting their league campaign. Injuries force Sir Alex to play an extremely young defence who, along with goalkeeper David De Gea, have an average age of just 22. Unforced however, is the youth in attack for the home side, who also have Javier Hernandez back in their match-day squad.

As for the visitors, Luka Modric didn’t take the trip up the M1 because, according to Spurs boss Harry Redknapp, “his head isn’t right” with speculation about his future still rife. Elsewhere, Brad Friedel makes his club debut and Jake Livermore starts after scoring midweek at Tynecastle.

    love a late captain goal, phew beauty!
    was an interesting period between 50 and 60mins where lennon should have given VDV a very scoreable chance, then evans could easily have been sent off, and then man utd scored. after that though supreme turning of the screw from utd, the pace of their front 6 is frightening.
    you could argue all 3 assists were better than the goals, the nonchalent whip cleverley gets on his, danny pele guti's audacious backheel (hands up if you called that assist? everyone with their hand up is lying 😛 )
    this may sound premature but phil jones is such a natural that i would ditch rio and go with him and vidic. i honestly think he's on a par with the current version of rio and thanks to suerior fitness should be 1st choice imo. as an englishman absolutely loving jones.
    oh and fpl related if teams are really going to spend the match thinking de gea is a retard and will get beaten by every 25-40 yard shot then i might just have to buy him for all the save points.

      Cleverly's cross was most beaut as was the backheel.

      Not sure about the Rio comment but I can see where you're coming from, if he's going to keep getting injured then probably better off letting Jones and Vidic build a partnership. He did look pretty good again tonight, as did Smalling. Promising futures all round.

                For full flair marks you have to include the / in the original post.

                Been thinking about it and come to the conclusion it would be a bad move. Smalling, Jones, Bosingwa etc are all on borrowed time. Pretty soon they will be out of the side or subject to high rotation risk. Can't be arsed wasting transfers on defenders further down the road.

                bla, AVL, WIG is a nice enough next three for Baines. He was bloody unlucky to not get a monster score against QPR

            it was one of those which in itself wasn't a bad foul but if BAE got clear of evans then he would have been running into a dangerous advanced area so you very often see yellows given for them.

    How awful was Defoe today?

    If Spurs get Diarra and Adebayor, and keep hold of Modric they will look a very good team again. Pretty sure Chelsea will snatch Modric though.

    hi guys. reeling from a dismal 34 points this week. rooney's goal salvaged a little something.
    the extra wildcard was a curse. i managed to cock up a perfectly good team: yaya instead of silva in gw1, alex instead of bosingwa, torres in and captained.....bad, bad decisions.

    anyhow, i want jarvis, bosingwa, suarez and silva but all 4 look to go up tonight. worth a wildcard to 0.4m and points hits, or best to just do yaya to silva and accept the price rises elsewhere?

      Nah Jarvis wont score goals every game, expect 2 pointers if you get him in. Silva looks very good you should get him and leave the rest. Don't wildcard yet.

    That's 2 points for playing, -1 for the goals conceded and 4 points for the saves making 5 in total. Not bad.

    De Gea made 9 saves so should get 9 points.

      Need you ask, really?

      Hernandez will always play ahead of Welbeck when fit. Short-term, Welbeck looks good for starts but SAF could play 4-5-1 against Arsenal. Then again their ball retention skills isn't quite what it was 😉
