The second gameweek of the Premier League season comes to a close tonight at Old Trafford, as champions Manchester United play host to a Tottenham Hotspur side belatedly starting their league campaign. The Dugout Discussion chatroom is open for business, so come in and take a seat whilst we mull over the all-important team news…

Injuries force Sir Alex to play an extremely young defence who, along with goalkeeper David De Gea, have an average age of just 22. Unforced however, is the youth in attack for the home side, who also have Javier Hernandez back in their match-day squad.

Man United XI: De Gea, Smalling, Jones, Evans, Evra, Anderson, Cleverley, Nani, Young, Rooney, Welbeck

As for the visitors, Luka Modric didn’t take the trip up the M1 because, according to Spurs boss Harry Redknapp, “his head isn’t right” with speculation about his future still rife. Elsewhere, Brad Friedel makes his club debut and Jake Livermore starts after scoring midweek at Tynecastle.

Spurs XI: Friedel; Walker, Dawson, Kaboul, Assou-Ekotto; Lennon, Kranjcar, Livermore, Bale; Van der Vaart; Defoe

Take a pew in the Dugout Discussion chatroom, where you can follow all the action from tonight’s game.

Fair to say I've just hit the panic button. A total of 9 transfers (obviously using the Wildcard) I've just made! Just couldn't afford to see Suarez, Enrique, Silva etc all rocket in price and have to start paying over for them.

Do any of the scouts know what features are missing from FPL but are definitely due to be "brought back"? I'm getting fed up of some of the omissions, but no point complaining to FPL about stuff they do intend to fix.

This is a team from one of my mini-leagues. His score was somewhat spoilt by the inclusion of Kieron Dyer, Agyemang and Hilario!

where do you go to see price rises/falls that coordinates with the barclays fantasy premier league? and how do you work it out on there? or is it just plain reading and tells you who is most likely to rise/fall etc? ive been to the site mentioned above but cant see torres on there at all. wondered if it is the right one as well.

apparently there are bugs in transfer page. the price rise is supposed to happen at this point isn't it? earlier price rise/fall wasn't visible on the transfer page at all.

wanted to make transfer to take advantage of the price change. but fpl is messing up at every step.

That's not what we're talking about. You used to be able to sort players on the transfer page by selecting Price Rise or Price Drop from the drop down menu. Those options aren't there this season.

So let me get this right... If I used my wildcard now and transferred in all the players whos prices will rise tonight, then sell them I will get the extra money? Then I can transfer in the team I actually want with the help of the extra funds?

Partly right. Unfortunately, when selling the player after he's risen in price, you only get half the profit, so essentially, you need a player to rise by 0.2 million before you can sell him for your 0.1 million gain.

But generally, yeah you're right - that is how people use their WC to make a few quid. Buy players you think will rise, then sell them for a profit, and then finalise your preferred team before the deadline on Saturday.

no u wont sadly because the selling price is not the same as the actual price. i.e. if u buy a player for 10.0m and he rises to 10.1m, u can still only sell him at 10m

You only get half the increase, so player would have to rise 0.2 for you to gain 0.1. It usually takes a couple of weeks for a player to rise 0.2 unless they have a stormer of a match.

It's OK to do if you actually want the players in your team, but it usually means keeping them for a good few weeks, otherwise a waste of points.

Less 50% of their price rise due to a 'sell on fee'

So, to realize a .1 team value increase your transferred player needs to have gone up .2

That's why international weeks are a more popular time for this type of strategy ... 2 weeks gives more time for price rises.

Please help! First time at this and my premiership knowledge is pitiful! However, there be money on the table and serious bragging rights at work if I can beat the ones who know it all!

    Have been reading all the comments on here, seems my team is a little off from the consensus but here goes;

    Al-Habsi

    Baines, Enrique, Kompany (Huth, Hughes)

    Nani, N'Zog, Moses, Taarabt, Silva

    Aguero, Rodallega, (Holt)

Was thinking early WC might be for me, if so this was my plan>>

Defence: Baines for Bosingwa, maybe waiting another week for this?
Midfield: Nani out for Malouda, Moses and Taarabt out for Jarvis and one other, keep N'Zog?
Up front: Aguero for Bent, Rodallega for Long/Klasnic?

Also plan to swap out the expensive defensive subs for 2x 4.0mil to help pay for this...

Am I on the right track with any of this? Any glaring obvious mistakes with current or planned team? Also if I decide against using the WC, suggestions for most important changes?

Sorry for all the questions! 🙂

It's not great but I wouldn't WC - way too early. I'd be tempted to hold tight for a week and use 2 transfers next week (maybe 3 for a 4 pt hit). You probably need to find a way to get a 2nd big hitting striker in to increase your number of captaincy options.

Do not WC. None of your players is hurt. Play four or even five Def until you work a new strategy. Huth can score at any time. Your high price Def can each score or keep a clean sheet. Don't take a hit either. You would need to be unable to field 11 or have an autocomplete team to WC so early. And a simple hit would cure most "can't field 11" problems.

By comparison, use of a WC in your situation would be equivalent to SAF using all three subs to replace Rooney, Anderson and Smalling because they hadn't scored in the first five minutes.
Take heart you identified the main issue lack of at least one cheap defender 4.0. That's good, use your temporary five to your advantage for a few weeks. good luck. Forget about the tenths at this point too, not one player is on a bandwagon yet.

Wow really thanks for all the comments!...

So my new plan is to play 5-4-1, make use of my expensive defence... and only 4 in mid as I think Moses is in doubt for next week...

I'll then save 2x transfers for the following week, priority would then be to change defence for 2x 4.0mil guys..

Then i'll work on swapping out moses/taarabat for Jarvis/Brunt perhaps? and also feel Malouda is better option than Nani..

Then look to sort out upfront, Aguero for Bent possibly and Long in for Rodallega...

Depending on how we look GW3/4, possibly using WC at this point to sort the changes...

        For now though;

        Al-Habsi
        Baines, Enrique, Kompany, Huth, Hughes
        Nani, N’Zog, Taarabt, Silva (Moses)
        Aguero, (Holt, Rodallega)

What do you mean by tenths Jack? the 10.0mil+ guys?

It is all guess work, but in previous years the first few weeks have had much higher thresholds, tapering down to your figures after a month or so. It allows the predetermined pricing structure to survive the turbulent start to the season (transfer window, fitness issues, formation uncertainty etc.).

Looking back on the thread from last season, they started with a 27K guesstimate. And the pricing structure survives as FPL can adjust the variables that create the threshold at any time.

considering the prices weren't going to go up last week,
they've now given unlimited transfers this week,
are prices definately going up this week?
I'm sure i read about it somewher but have forgotton, anyone got confirmation that prices WILL change?

There are no unlimited transfers this week, so prices SHOULD change. In other words, there's no reason they shouldn't.... unless that function of the site is also broken 😆

    Need to save 1.5. Choices:
    a: sinclair > dyer
    b: nzog > jarvis
    c: nzog > brunt

WBA do have great fixtures coming up and have only narrowly lost to top teams, but my head is being also being turned by a probable price rise for jarvis.

with the fixtures coming up i'd say change n zog to brunt. N zog offering limited returns at the minue as mcleish is playing 4-3-3. West brom have weathered the storm of man u /chelsea and brunt looked promising vs man u especially. Plus hes on freekicks.

which ones out of 1 2 or 3 worth doing or none?

    1) van persie to rooney... the reason i havent done this is because not many teams have rvp which is good coz i need to catch up points!

    2) o'hara to jarvis?

    3) hoolahan to cleverley?

i got 29 in gw1 and 37 in gw2 so its not going well so far!

At the moment I think RVP is too expensive for 12 million although he'll be worth considering GW4 when Arsenal's fixtures improve and we have a clearer idea of their squad after the transfer window. Ohara to Jarvis might pay off but this might be a case of chasing last weeks points. Cleverley is looking really good in the United midfield but will have the threat of rotation hanging over him.

o'hara did look like he could earn some points, so to swap him for jarvis could end badly!

Why http://www.fiso.co.uk/crackthecode.php and http://totalfpl.com/ shows such different results in price rise?

How much transfer in is necessary for price rise?

I find TotalFPL to be much more reliable and I reckon given the performances of expected risers that they will indeed rise..

"Why X and Y shows Z?" is awful grammar.
"Why do X and Y show Z?" is much less distressing.
No offence meant. I'm sure that your English is 1 trillion times more intelligible than my pitiful attempt at whatever your native language is.

Also, http://www.totalfpl.com/ was more reliable last season IMHO.
