The Gameweek Captain Poll is now open and sitting proudly in the middle column of your homepage.
While last week’s effort saw Chelsea’s Fernando Torres run away with the majority vote, only to fall flat yet again, this week’s poll already looks a far more intriguing affair.
We’ve just over 300 votes in already and the top rankings look keenly contested. Torres, despite failing once again to find the net against the Baggies, is once more a front runner with the Norwich defence due at the Bridge this weekend. The Spaniard is just one of four strikers currently leading the pack.
Liverpool’s Luis Suarez will surely get more than 19 minutes to inflict damage on an obliging Bolton defence at Anfield, while Wayne Rooney is another two-in-two striker with a home fixture this weekend. The ravaged Arsenal line-up looks likely to be patched once again – Rooney could be well placed to capitalise.
It’s Darren Bent who leads the way right now, though – but only just. He’ll be setting his sights on a Wolves defence at Villa Park on Saturday, although Mick McCarthy’s side will arrive with consecutive wins and just one goal against. Bent won’t find it easy then, but is currently the armband favourite off the back of a goal and an assist, in addition to Fantasy Premier League bonus, in last weekend’s 3-1 win over Blackburn.
Below this quartet we find Frank Lampard hovering, an option again boosted by the fact that Chelsea will be widely expected to notch at least a couple against Paul Lambert’s back-four. Likewise, Florent Malouda is an option currently garnering votes. David Silva is already being backed to prolong his sparkling start to the season, despite a testing trip to White Hart Lane, while a few are backing Victor Moses to recover from a knock to take the fight to QPR at the DW Stadium.
An interesting array of poll options, without a clear leader. Cast your vote at some point over the week and throw in your early opinions right here.
