Slinking quietly into the velour chair of our virtual betting shop, cap dipped low after another mauling by Paddy, we slide another betting slip from the pile to take up the challenge again for this week’s Fantasy Flutter.

Did we shoot for the stars and overlook measured value for the big odds, or did our Scout Picks fall short of their predicted contributions? Perhaps a bit of both, but this week we are determined to chalk a few up for the good as Paddy market up Jose Bosingwa, Luis Suarez, Steven Taylor, David Silva and Shane Long, not to mention a tasty treble on the one hundered percent teams – Man United, Wolves and Man City. Read on to find out how our Picks play out in Paddys world…

The monobrowed maestro Jose Bosingwa has risen like a phoenix from the ashes under the stewardship of André Villas-Boas. In flying form, he mirrors Ashley Cole’s devestating overlaps and provides serious threat from Chelsea’s right flank. Paddy may have been a bit over-zealous with odds for him to get a red card at 40’s, having only been written into the referee’s book once last year, whereas 2 assists or more at 10/1 earns our interest and deserves a punt for £1.

Luis Suarez continues to poach goals whenever his slick footwork graces the turf and he’ll have a place in Fantasy managers and punters minds alike this weekend. Paddy have put together some pretty tempting specials here, including odds to score a header and to find the net from a free kick. Nice respectable odds with decent probability, but we fancy a spot of sabre rattling and are going to knock down 14/1 on Suarez to miss a penalty. With the Uruguayan failing to convert on the opening day, we’ll stake a quid on the planets aligning for this one.

With the last of the long shots out of our system, let’s get down to some serious betting with some semi-serious money. Next up is Steven Taylor against Fulham, challenging us with the likes of two or more goals at 80/1 and to score from outside the box at 22/1. Tempted? Sure. Do we remember last week’s thrashing by Paddy? Definitely. Newcastle stand a good chance of gaining a cleanie against The Cottagers but Taylor to get a brace? Too rich for our blood but have a sniff if you fancy backing the Magpies’ tower of strength.

Sans Tevez, David Silva is really making his mark on the Premier League this season in emphatic style. A veteran of the Scout Picks already this season, he glides between passes through the apparent acres of space that only he can find, notching up well earned bonus points along the way. As City push forward in numbers, Silva has a tendency to take a step off the line, lying in wait to pull the trigger if the ball is played square. With Spurs allowing Man United to remain mostly unchallenged in these situations in Monday night’s game, Silva to score from outside the box at 5/1 looks massive for £2.

If Paddy had given odds on Shane Long bullying the oft immovable Alex off the ball with such ease we wouldn’t have wasted time looking at them, let alone opened our wallets. But he did, the week after putting a goal away against United. Paddy are wagering completes a hat-trick of first goals this week against Stoke at the Hawthorns at 11/2, a worthy punt for £2.

Acca-not believe it!

Can the top three maintain their 100% records. Form big guns from Manchester United and City take on the out of sorts Londoners Arsenal and Spurs, whilst the clash between Wolves and Villa makes a surprise tussle for third place. Wolves look like the real risk here, although the journey time won’t be an issue and with Matt Jarvis on form as both provider and finisher last week, our final £4 goes on this huge treble of Man City, Man United and Wolves all to win at 14/1.

Check back next week to find out how our bets got on and how long it took us to count our winnings.

After toying with Lampard or Torres, El Nino (or El nothing) has been given one last chance...

    Hilario (Vorm)
Bosingwa Enrique R Taylor (Briggs, Simpson)
    Taarabt Nani Silva Brunt (Dyer-Swansea)
    Torres Rooney(C) Suarez

If Torres does nothing this weekend i've promised myself he will never enter my team again!

Your forward line looks a bit dodgy to me.

Obviously you've loaded up on an expensive mid, which should pay dividends, but two out of your forwards may not even play which is a big risk.

Not sure about that, SAF understands that with Cleverly and Anderson both being left footed Nani won't get the looks and service that Young does. Each game they are getting better and better and field symmetry. Nani had twice as many touches than in GW1, not to mention the bad passing game Smalling had, its hard to compete with the clean transitions from Evra. We will see more Nani, and more switching positions out of Nani and Young. Nani will never be gone. They are moving more towards a Barca style of maintaining possession. And not that of flying wings.

Definitely Richards imo. Mankini has the squad to rotate just about everyone now to keep em fresh all season but he seems to have made the rb spot his own.
If anything I think zabaletta will be used in UCL more than EPL. Speculation though.

I'd roll with Welbeck until GW7 (Norwich H). A poachers game is a world of change, he's easy to scout. Rooney and welbeck both offer a midfielder's hat as well. Welbeck offers the same tracking back pressure and hard work that Hernandez does. Except one will never have a legit go from outside the box, one will never feel comfortable with the ball at his feet from 30-40 meters out. One will always be the one making diagonal runs being a taker and never a giver.

There's nothing wrong with it at all, so keep it as is.

That's your choice, but you have a good team. It's only two weeks into the season and you've had two wildcards already.

So what makes you think that playing another one this early is going to massively improve your team?

Keep the transfers and see who gets crocked during the international break and then maybe, maybe you may need to take a 4 point hit.

Believe me when I say that you'll regret playing a valuable wildcard this early in the season.

Depends on international break and transfers on deadline day as well as performers this weekend. If Suarez scores 2 or 3 and Mata comes on to dominate and score, and Gary Cahill or jagielka transfer to Arsenal, all in a few days span, then a WC looks superb before GW 4 - because you can benefit from price risers, transfers, and potential injuries in INTL week...

Also Arsenal schedule gets good after gw4 so RVP, Gervunho, Walcott, etc. will come into play... not a bad idea to WC in 4 in my opinion.

OK, but Fuzzy already has Suarez.

I agree that if there's a siesmic shift in the balance of power after GW3, or if half your players get crocked, or if Arsenal buy a decent CB and someone with experience and nouse to captain the team then changes will need to be made. But a WC this early?

Two free transfers and maybe a 4 point hit should be enough to make any changes that Fuzzy deems to be absolutely necessary.

That's fair. I am on the fence myself with players like Warnock, Sinclair, Torres and Bent on the books that I could shift out for price risers and a more long term look Wk 4.

TOT v MANC at the lane was 0-0 last year, I remember the game well as it was the first of the season. MANC were lucky not to concede that day as Hart played one of his best games. I would play Simpson too but not confident of a clean sheet though.

I would choose Vorm because imo he's more likely to get a cs. Given will probably face more shots, and make more saves imo. Villa let teams play in their half and try to hold shape and restrict them to half chances. Swansea keep the ball and don't take risks in possession, which is why they have trouble scoring.
If you guys think there's hardly any difference in cs potential then given's the smart play due to his high ownership.

given for me IKK. i think some things will balance out this week, like wolves not scoring on road after 2 Ws to start the season, vorm wont rack up double digit fantasy points, newcastle will finally concede, fulham will finally score, etc.

the only trend that will continue with no end in sight is torres will disappoint.

        Thanks for the input FW,

I have a feeling many things will return to the norm this week, I actually have Simpson on my bench as 1st sub cause I am convinced Newcastle can't keep another clean sheet.

But with Wolves, I see a team playing a fluid 4 4 2 with Hunt and Jarvis providing solid service for DOyle and Flecther and O'Hara always a danger from set pieces. I see a score draw in the Wolves Villa game.

Sess hasn't done enough for me to think he's a better prospect than Brunt (expect a goal today 😉 ).

Struggling to predict whether Villa/Wolves is going to be 0-0 or 3-3, both sides on similar form... Certainly worse options than Bent

Good evening/morning depending where you're at! About to lock in my squad and wouldn't mind some last minute input on the situation 🙂

    Vorm

    Bosingwa - Jags - Simpson

    Silva - Brunt - Jarvis - Moses

    Bent(vc) - Rooney - Torres (C)

BENCH: Schwarzer, Sess, Kompany, De Laet

Captain has been on Bent and just moved it to Torres aka cue Bent hat trick and Drogba starting over Torres.

Same front 3 though I may captain Bosingwa... good bench order though it seems you think Wolves and Jarvis will score on road at AVFC whereas Sessegnon won't... RISKY (C) option but could pay off. Torres playing time issue and no penalty kicks sways me to Bent / Rooney / Bosingwa as my potential options to be honest but your situation / thoughts of course are yours to make... good luck!

Bosingwa (C) could turn out quite well actually! Yeah pretty much my assumption.. and since I'm playing Vorm it makes sense to sit Sess and at the worst he'll come in if Moses sits. Risky for sure but COULD pay off as I reckon a lot of people would have been turned off after last week's debacle. Having said that I may cave and go with Bent before the deadline lol

Cheers for the input though and GL!

Give Silva a vc not Torres (Just in case) 🙂 I would bench and start the same team as yours.

Suarez finally tops the captain poll.. My armband moved from Rooney to him several days ago..

    But..

Is he likely to start in first team or bench ? And.. How many minutes will he get to create ?

What do you guys think ?

      time slows down for suarez.

what is 20 minutes for him is 90 minutes for humans.

I captain Suarez too and hopes he get the nod to start. I'm quite sure he should start because he didn't play full 90 mins this mid week so it's a good sign.

          Think hes money this GW.
Prolly alternate my captains between Roo and Silva most Gameweeks for home advantage

            Both are in good form..

For Roon, it would be good if we get more updates from Arsenal.

If they have Verm, Kosc, and Djou. back in team, I think they might be good enough to trouble Man Utd. Not to win, stop them from scoring much.

It’s done guys, good luck for this GW. I decided not to do any transfer this week my team are:
    Vorm (Given)
    Bosingwa,Enrique,S Taylor (Kompany, De Laet)
    Moses, Nani, VDV, NZog, Yaya
    Torres, Suarez c , (Graham)
Just want to do better than my first 2 weeks (29 and 40) 🙁
