Recovered from Sunday? Knee perfectly rigid? Wildcard intact? Good. The morning has broken and, unlike the first morning, the FPL Bonus has been dropped into the game, revising our Gameweek three totals.

Here’s a quick glance at how the Bonus appears to pan out with our Gameweek review over on the FPL site to follow later today.

Aston Villa vs Wolves
Berra (3) Ward (3), Agbonlahor, Hennessey, Hunt (1)

One of only two matches where the bonus points were spread. Christophe Berra and Stephen Ward share the maximum with identical EA SPORTS PPI scores on the day. Gabby Agbonlahor was Villa’s top Index earner, sharing a single bonus point with Hennessey and Hunt of Wolves. Shay Given and Stephen Warnock just missed out on joining the party.

Blackburn vs Everton
Baines, Howard (2), Arteta (2)

Food for thought for those who are looking to free up some cash by shipping out Leighton Baines. Clearly, when Everton keep a cleanie, Baines is firmly in the hat for bonus points. He pips team-mates Howard and Arteta here in what was a very fortunate win for David Moyes’ side. Neville and Distin were just outside the bonus awards – Mauro Formica was Blackburn’s leading EA SPORTS PPI candidate.

Chelsea vs Norwich
Lampard, Bosingwa, Holt

No surprises here. Frank Lampard was back amongst the big scorers and, in any other Gameweek, would have attracted more Fantasy headlines. Jose Bosingwa’s renaissance continues with further bonus recognition, while Norwich are represented by skipper Grant Holt who just edges out Ramires to claim a single bonus point. Significantly, Juan Mata put in a strong EA INDEX PPI score (21) in just 34 minutes on the pitch.

Liverpool vs Bolton
Henderson, Skrtel, Adam

The three goalscorers share the bonus – again, perhaps not a major surprise. The absence of Luis Suarez will disappoint plenty however – with no goal or assist to show for his efforts, the Uruguayan’s display was not recognised by a strong EA SPORTS PPI leaving him well short of bonus recognition. A contentious issue and certainly this week’s major talking point when it comes to the bonus awards – would the old system had awarded Suarez bonus? We can only speculate but clearly, without a positive goal/assist contribution in the game, players like Suarez will struggle to overcome team-mates who do contribute goals/assists, on pure performance statistics alone.

Man United vs Arsenal
Young, Rooney, Van Persie

No real surprises here given the avalanche of points hoovered up by Young and Rooney. Robin Van Persie’s bonus over other United candidates will raise a few eyebrows given that he missed a first-half penalty. Clearly his goal and overall contribution was enough to see off Anderson who figured next in the EA SPORTS PPI from this match.

Newcastle vs Fulham
Best, Cabaye, Gutierrez

There can be no such quibbles here. Leon Best’s brace earns him maximum bonus recognition while Cabaye and Gutierrez – two of Newcastle’s most consistent performers so far this season, fetch the remaining supplementary points. Danny Murphy was Fulham’s top scoring EA SPORTS PPI performer on the day, behind a host of Newcastle players who dominated matters statistically.

Swansea vs Sunderland
Taylor, Brown, Rangel

Swansea’s attacking full-backs, so involved in the Brendan Rodgers masterplan, suck up two lots of bonus awards from the 0-0 draw with Sunderland. Interestingly, Taylor is now looks assured of starts following Alan Tate’s bizarre golfing accident. Wes Brown was again the standout performer for the visitors. Michel Vorm again registered a double figure EA SPORTS PPI score as his impressive season continues.

Tottenham vs Man City
Dzeko, Nasri, Kompany

City’s reborn centre-forward dominates, returning a huge EA SPORTS PPI score to claim the maximum bonus award. Samir Nasri’s hat-trick of assists has him placed in second on a fine City debut, while Vincent Kompany is again the top City defender on the index, claiming a single bonus, despite conceding. Gareth Barry and Yaya Toure were next for City in the rankings, with Tottenham’s Younnes Kaboul their only representative in the top ten from this match.

Wigan vs QPR
Di Santo, Rodallega, Boyce

Franco Di Santo’s brace has him well out in front when it comes to bonus awards from Wigan’s 2-0 win over QPR. Hugo Rodallega and Emmerson Boyce join the party in a Latics clean sweep. Shaun Derry was the visitors shining light as Wigan dominated the EA SPORTS PPI rankings here. Adel Taarabt again paying the price for off target efforts in a defeat – despite presenting QPR’s biggest threat on the day.

West Brom vs Stoke
Shawcross, Jones (2), Shotton (2)

A miserable display by the Baggies sees Stoke monopolising the bonus awards and the EA SPORTS PPI rankings. Tony Pulis’ side grabbed the three points with a late goal with Ryan Shawcross taking the defensive plaudits. Kenwyne Jones and goalscorer Ryan Shotton shared 2 bonus points, just edging out Asmir Begovic in the index.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Sorry if this has already been asked, but should Rooney not have 2 assists under the new rule? After crossing the ball into the box, two deflections from defenders inside the box resulted in Young scoring from outside the box. No deflection occurred outside. So should that not count as Rooney assist as he was the last attacking player to play the ball??

Mark, can you also check if FPL are bringing back the running gameweek rank in the history section? So we can see where we are/were overall during each GW. It's missing from this year's game.

Click on your history page and it is there.

Your gameweek rank is listed next to your gameweek details and your overall rank is in the points/rankings box. For example, my GW3 rank: 400k-ish and my overall rank 900k-ish.

Can't call it a headed clearance if he passed to Young, hence it would be classed as a deflection rather than clearance.

He 'cleared it' straight to Young, it's still a clearance.

The ball doesn't brush his head, it doesn't deflect of his head... it's a header (and to say once again, just a shit one).

"A clearance is done whenever a defender insures that a ball is clear of danger, regardless of how he does it. He might be kicking it, but at the same time he might be shielding it out of play"

He didn't clear the ball. Fair enough, I wouldn't call it a deflection tbh but attack was unbroken.

I think the difference lies in the intention of the player; A deflection = no intent to strike ball, pass/clearance = intent to strike ball. Same as the pass-back rule.

            Simple!

Please don't quote the "it's in the rules so it must be his assist" boolocks. Examples such as this prove just waht a nonsense the rule is. He doesn't deserve an assist for it, and it shouldn't be awarded.

The way the site are awarding points and prices have no logic, and several random awarding. They have written the rule prior to the game and now when there is the first question over it, it is scrapped. So remind me again why a game is played if not because people understand the rules?

The rule was introduced to give a better playing ground for Wingers and Attacking FB such as Evra who missed out on assists from driving the ball across the face of the goal to nick a deflection. Of course you are going to have others benefiting from it but it is there, and everyone knew it.

Mark's comment below sums it up exactly.

Tbh, I don't know what you are on about. Maybe if we completley remove the scoring from the actually game and award points based on pulling numbers from a bingo ball might suit you better?

Yeah, let's pick numbers out of a hat, great idea.

FPL should consider each case on it's own merits. And there is clearly no merit to be found here.

If you are seriously saying FPL should award the assist in this instance, and in any other similar example, then shame on you.

On what grounds do you base that statement? I mean that the rule was introduced for that reason?

The FPL have always been too kind with assists in my opinion. If you want to give out points for random actions then fine, but why do you think something that is clearly not an assist should give assist points?

When a defender on purpose clears the ball the attack is over, and after that a new attack starts which Young scores from instantly. ie no assist.

I think the main point is being missed here. Mark has already pointed it out.

In real life it is in no way an assist. However the rules set out in the beginning stand over this as an assist.

I don't know why people are calling this a clearance, he didn't clear the ball from danger, instead straight to Young. It is not a new attack it is the same attack.

I am saying that the fpl site has been completley inconsistant this year. First awarding an extra 'wildcard' to analready ridiculous amount of free transfers. It has random price changes now applied, and their new rules that were to better the game are already coming under question 3 weeks in.

The grounds of my argument are as follows, taken from the fpl rules:

"Assists are awarded to the player from the goal scoring team, who makes the last touch before the goal is scored.

If after this touch, an opposing player touches the ball outside the penalty area altering the intended destination of the ball, then no assist is given, except if this intervention directly results in an own goal."

Hence, no arsenal player touches the ball outside the penalty area, an assist is awarded.

Rules are rules though, I just find this to be a farce.

May as well ask for a few assists to be awarded to Kompany because he touched the ball in training.

Am a Rooney owner, but don't think he should be awarded the assist: his cross wasnt targeted at Young AT ALL. Goal comes following a clearance, not a deflection even if it's inside the penakty box.
As well, I'm no Young owner but still think assists on Roo's FK are correct. No debate on the first one as AY earned the FK; And still, Young is the last to touch the ball.

Anyway, assists are reviewed before points updates, so won't be any extra assist!

It is clearly not an assist as one would adjudicate, however, they've already done similar by that logic I'd say they 'have' to give it.

I won't moan if they don't because, as you say, it's not really an assist - however it might now be an "FPL assist". I'm not expecting it.

Probably they may have counted as a new attack when Rooney got the ball. I mean surely the formulation thy use applies to the same attack. Otherwise, for example, Rooney loses the ball in the penalty area, then the attack of the other side follows and, say, Nani tackles the ball near to the MU's penalty area, goes through all the pitch and scores. It's a Rooney assist again? No way.

Ok, so I have so many changes I want to make, but I don't want to knee-jerk into a WC unless I really have to at this point.

    Team currently is:

    Vorm - Ruddy
Baines - Kompany - Hughes - Simpson - De Laet
    Malouda - N'Zog - Henderson - Sinclair - Moses
    Torres - Bent - Zamora

    (with 1.5m in the bank)

Obv I captained Torres for 2 weeks for a grand total of 3 points and like many on here tried to play the fixtures and expected form and so got done over by those with Young + Rooney, Dzeko etc.

Now, I would obviously like to drop Torres and Zamora and get in Rooney/Dzeko/Suarez, also want to get rid of Malouda for Silva/Nasri/Nani and then possible re-jig the defence/midfield as well.

    Would you recommend:

    A) Just drop Torres and bring Rooney/Dzeko/Suarez? (Cost: Free)
    B) Do the above, but also switch Malouda for Silva/Nasri/Nani? (Cost: 4pts)
    C) Play WC and do all of the baove, plus replace Zamora and potentially make other changes as well? (Cost: WC)

I'm in the same boat as many others on FFS, whereby casual players now have a 60+ point lead on me and so I wonder if playing a WC this early is worth it, or whether I should wait a few weeks, making the above changes more slowly and then see how much I close the gap before deciding to burn a WC.

    Any thoughts?

I'd do B. 4 points isn't that big a price to pay, Zamora will be back from injury after the international break. He also got the bonus points on the 1st gameweek, plus he'll be at home to Blackburn. As well as that Danny Murphy's creativity score on the ICT is one of the best in the league and i just think against Blackburn, Zamora will run riot.

Ok, so say I went for option B, so I was dropping Torres and Malouda, who do I bring in with 1.5m in the bank?

For Malouda: Silva, Nasri or Nani (or someone else)?
For Torres: Rooney, Dzeko or Suarez (or someone else)?

A more helpful reply could be that in a Head to Head LEAGUE there are wins, draws and losses with 3, 1 or 0 points. In a Head to Head CUP, if points are equal, it goes down to goals scored in the GW, then goals conceded and then a virtual coin toss.

    hey guys, riddle me this;

    given/vorm
    woodgate/bosingwa/richards/de laet/SENDEROS
    MALOUDA/YAYA/SESS/MOSES/dyer
    rooney/suarez/bent

i am concerned about those in capitals - malouda is definitely going, yaya not far behind him.

the question is, is it worth wildcarding and trying to take advantage of price rises (which may not happen?) whilst patching holes in my team, take a 4 pointer and shake malouda/yaya, 8 pointer and move sess on as well (sess->anderson??) or make do with one free?

similar situation myself with main doubts over senderos, nzogbia, and sess but also would liek to try to get rooney and/or other united cover in (i have none). so your feedback would be appreciated too.

for you I'd say probably wildcard given there seem to be about 6 players you'd like to switch. and either sess > anderson or brunt if you're looking at getting rid of him

quick look at your team, i'd be tempted to wc, but it's perhaps not essential.

i don't like hilario - he's not gonna play when cech is back (after the break?), sess isn't firing and is cheap enough to be able to bring back in if he does, same with nzog. dempsey... unsure. i don't like him at his price, but i can't really find fault, he'll bring in points.

i think that over the season, rooney will prove more essential than aguero, and as you already have silva i'd probably go aguero -> rooney, and possibly nzog -> anderson, which would let you go dempsey -> walcott (who i think will score points if he stays fit).

then you'd have goalscoring coverage from united, city, arsenal, liverpool and you'd have bent as well, for an 8 point hit.

so yeah, 8 points, wc if you feel hilario/senderos need to go asap.

I'm really not sure about Dzeko and Ag's. The former was just read hot in the last game, but Aguero might pull out all the stops against Wigan with Dzeko stealing some of his limelight.

However I think Mancini will want to give Tevez at least some game time and Aguero seems the more natural swap for him. After scoring four goals and six in 3 games how could you possibly drop Dzeko?!

So I'm going for him and hoping Aguero just bags a goal and plays 60mins max.

Plus means I can have Nasri/Mata in my midfield too 😉

Can't believe the amount of people putting their faith in Walcott. Did you watch last night?! Arsenal are at their absolute lowest and you'd need a character of steal to respond positively, something the Arsenal team is notorious for lacking.

Putting faith in fixtures over form has burned a lot of people with Chelsea, and now everyone wants to do it with Arsenal of all teams?!

    Bit of reassurance required.

In order to avoid Torres and Saha drop I brought in RvP and Fletcher this week (I know), so current team looks like this:

    Given/Vorm
Baines, Bosingwa, Warnock (de Laet, Simpson)
    Silva, Sinclair, Nzogbia, Sess (Tiote)
    Rooney, RvP, Fletcher.

Should I stick or use wildcard, thinking I'll keep with it for mo then when Baines' good fix's run out, I'll downgrade and upgrade Nzog?

I hate price chasing, and I hate it even more when the f*cking prices don't actually bother changing.
    Lazy FPL scuts.

Anyway, Cabaye is looking a good prospect for FPL I think he will be one of the few to stay in my side after the wildcard is finalised, happy with 7 points from him. The 9 points from Baines gives me a little selection headache, if only he was on penalties and Everton were a little tighter at the back he would be a cert for my side.

when wildcarding over the international break, and chasing price rises. I'm guessing it's best to get the transfers done early?

I'm going to be plaing my wc too and just wanted to make sure i time it right!

      Thanks 🙂

The earlier you make your transfers the more chance of a 0.2 rise so you can get a little profit. I'm not sure many will rise 0.2 though, perhaps Dzeko and Young, so not a great lot of profit to be made.
The handiest bit about playing it now though is that you get to see the end of the transfer window, so when Newcastle use a Delorean with a flux capacitor to get Shearer, Albert, Beardsley and Ferdinand from 1996 then you'll be able to get them in your side. Admittedly that might be unlikely.

Hi Atilla - how did the ge go? Some serious casualties!

I'm looking at Cabaye gw 6-11. Good? Is he on some setpieces etc?

Gameweek was alright - 79 points. Quite happy until I saw that it's a pretty average score in my minileague with a good few scoring significantly more. How was yours?

I think Cabaye will be a solid FPL player and is well enough priced at 6m. He's on corners for the moment, I think when Ryan Taylor loses his place he will be on freekicks too. I'm 80% sure that when Ameobi is out then Cabaye is on penalties too. He seems a good playmaker and certainly isn't afraid to shoot. He nearly scored a peach against 5under1and [forced the keeper into a top save] and again against Fulham [hit the bar with Best tapping in the rebound]

I got 61 which i was semi-pleased with, then i noticed that the two Man U fans in my mini-league, who did terrible last week and were both at the bottom, had Rooney captained plus Young and they've pretty much destroyed everyone else lol. Thought being patient with Torres and Carroll would pay off but they're definitely getting shown the door now.

Ah. And with Young already in my side, the potential upside is actually limited then.

Especially with end of transfer window and potential injuries in internationals. Worth missing out on the 0.2 for.

I want Doc Brown in my midfield.
