Newcastle have this evening confirmed the capture of Italian international left-back Davide Santon from Inter for an undisclosed fee.

The 20 year-old arrives at St James’ Park on a five-year deal and has immediately been handed the Magpies’ number three shirt.

For Fantasy Managers, that should immediately ring alarm bells. Santon’s arrival presents a significant threat to Ryan Taylor’s position at left-back having seen the former Wigan man establish himself as an early season favourite.

Taylor scored the winning goal in the North East derby win over Sunderland at the Stadium of Light in Gameweek two and, with 12% ownership (280,000+ owners) in the Fantasy Premier League game, had enjoyed a 0.2 price increase from his initial 4.0 valuation.

Those who were tempted by Taylor’s early season form may have hoped that their man would be set for a sustained run in the starting lineup. Indeed, following his winner at Sunderland, Alan Pardew had suggested that it would be difficult to dislodge Taylor from his starting berth..

“We are trying to bring a left-back in and he is going to have to be a good one to take Ryan out of the team”

But the reality is that Taylor is a right-footed player filling in at left-back – a real short term prospect. Santon, despite being equipped to play either side of defence, has been bought to replace Jose Enrique and Taylor now faces the prospect of dropping to the bench, unless Pardew can find a role in midfield for the set-piece specialist, or consider dropping established starter Danny Simpson on the right.

Santon could now be set to make his debut for the Magpies in what promises to be a tempestuous affair as Newcastle travel to face QPR and Joey Barton on Monday September 12. The new Italian recruit could, theoretically, be facing Barton one-on-one in that fixture – a factor that may convince Pardew to give Santon more time to settle, persevering with Taylor for one more run-out.

One possible knock-on from Taylor’s relegation to the bench, French midfielder Youha Cabaye, who has made an encouraging start to his career at St James’, could now be set for a more prominent role at set-pieces and in particular, direct free-kicks.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Rooney's added assist put me on a very decent 81 points. I also did Torres > Dzeko last night to catch his price rise with one freebie left. Views on my team for GW4? 3.0 in the bank. Thinking N'Zog > Walcott.

    Given
    Kompany Hughes Simpson Bosingwa
    Taarabt N'Zogbia Silva
    Dzeko Rooney Suarez

What do you guys think of Lampard to Walcott for the next 6 weeks as they have extremely good fixtures (but we know what happened last time we did that).

    Rest of Team is:

    Given(Ruddy)
    Kompany, Bosingwa, Hughes, Simpson(Brown)
    Lampard, Silva, Brunt(Moses, Sinclair)
    Rooney, Bent, Holt

This leaves 3 in the bank for changes later in the GW and a chance to upgrade using my other free transfer. Any recommendations?

what do we think about richards vs kompany.

richards is more likely to get a big score, but kompany more nailed on?

it looks like richards might be rotated in difficult away games where zabaleta offers a more defensive option, but against easier opposition he gets forward and is a goal/assist possibility.

so do you go with the consistent pick, or the higher risk/reward factor?

why is it a no brainer?

richards looks like he'll get game time and he's more likely to get a bigger score - if we use the (admittedly limited) info we have from the first 3 weeks, it seems that richards will only be rotated out in difficult away games, meaning that he should get a similar number of cleansheets to kompany, but may miss 8-10 starts, away to top 6 sides.

shrug, who do you think will provide clean sheets then?

i have enrique, richards and bosingwa, 3 attacking fullbacks from top 6 teams. my theory is that the lack of reliable cleansheets will hopefully be offset by offensive returns. it's currently paying off with bosingwa and richards (to a lesser extent).

then a couple cheapies to rotate for home fixtures.

How I Learned To Stop Worrying And Love Luis Suarez:

    Given (Vorm)

Bosingwa - Enrique - De Laet (Simpson, N. Taylor)

Silva - Nasri - Jarvis - Obertan (Dyer)

    Rooney - RVP - Suarez

Think the three 4.0s in defence works when only one plays every week, just need to figure out if it's worth dropping Given to Krul or even a 4.0 to upgrade Obertan.

Could easily get Walcott in for Obertan and a striker up to 8mil in for RVP, but I figure if I'm gonna have an Arsenal player it might as well be their main man, who everyone was tipping for the golden boot not so long ago.

If I could pick any attacking Newcastle player right now, do you know who it would be? Jonas Gutierrez. Quality player, should run riot with Santon for company.

Lol I wish that were my team name xD

Jonas is good, I've been considering him and Cabaye. Would love it if Santon came it at 4.0 but can't see anything other than 4.5 for him, maybe even 5.

Briggs would be great if he was nailed on but I don't trust him to start over Senderos every week.

Simply because it is Wenger this will not happen. At best I could see the gunners getting in hazard after another approach(again inexeperienced at the top level)....Ganso from Santos is a possibility but hasn't looked as good as expected recently, especially in games against tougher opposition with Brazil. Maybe Moutinho would be an option from Porto now that Chelsea don't look so interested in him. Montolivo from Fiorentina would be another option, but with the demise of the Italian league, I can't see Wenger splashing cash on him.

The only players Arsenal need are defensive minded ones, they don't have that much trouble scoring goals.

Arsenal have averaged better than most in goal scoring per season, and they're normally the best 'fantasy PL team' stats-wise, but their defense is dreadful.

If you score 2 goals vs United, then you should at least get a draw from that match...Not ship 8 goals

I would agree 100% if we still had Fabregas and Nasri. However, so much of everything good we did went through them, so that is a big hole that needs filling. Arshavin is looking worse every game, and I just don't rate Rosicky at all. That leaves Song and Wilshere as our defensive minded mids (decent, but no back up if one or both get injured/banned), Walcott, Arshavin, Gervinho and Chamberlain as wide players and only Ramsey, Rosicky and a load of kids as attacking central mids.

IMO, we need 1 attacking central mid, 1 defensive central mid, 1 decent lump up front to give us an alternative route to goal, and at least 2 defenders.

He's back up it seems. If woodgate struggles he'll come in.

anyone know a good website that lists all fixtures for all teams home and away in a relatively convenient format (i.e. most or all fixtures on one page or spreadsheet) kinda like the next 6 ticker here but with all fixtures?

    Reply with A or B;
Who will get the most points at the end of the season?

    A) Brunt
    B) Jarvis

If Wolves can keep up their game, IMO it will be Jarvis.

You appear to have two Silva's in your team? Interesting

Dzeko scored more and was away from home.
                Arsenal had virtually no defence.
You have Rooney in the team,so not too much damage even if he does.

Anyone know what will happen to the owner of a player moving out to another team outside EPL? Eg. Andy Johnson moving to Leicester. So do we have to use a transfer to swap him out? Or can we just replace him without wasting a free transfer?

It costs a transfer, I'm afraid.

Read it from several sites. Once Ruiz is coming seems Jol will allow AJ to move out.
