Newcastle have this evening confirmed the capture of Italian international left-back Davide Santon from Inter for an undisclosed fee.

The 20 year-old arrives at St James’ Park on a five-year deal and has immediately been handed the Magpies’ number three shirt.

For Fantasy Managers, that should immediately ring alarm bells. Santon’s arrival presents a significant threat to Ryan Taylor’s position at left-back having seen the former Wigan man establish himself as an early season favourite.

Taylor scored the winning goal in the North East derby win over Sunderland at the Stadium of Light in Gameweek two and, with 12% ownership (280,000+ owners) in the Fantasy Premier League game, had enjoyed a 0.2 price increase from his initial 4.0 valuation.

Those who were tempted by Taylor’s early season form may have hoped that their man would be set for a sustained run in the starting lineup. Indeed, following his winner at Sunderland, Alan Pardew had suggested that it would be difficult to dislodge Taylor from his starting berth..

“We are trying to bring a left-back in and he is going to have to be a good one to take Ryan out of the team”

But the reality is that Taylor is a right-footed player filling in at left-back – a real short term prospect. Santon, despite being equipped to play either side of defence, has been bought to replace Jose Enrique and Taylor now faces the prospect of dropping to the bench, unless Pardew can find a role in midfield for the set-piece specialist, or consider dropping established starter Danny Simpson on the right.

Santon could now be set to make his debut for the Magpies in what promises to be a tempestuous affair as Newcastle travel to face QPR and Joey Barton on Monday September 12. The new Italian recruit could, theoretically, be facing Barton one-on-one in that fixture – a factor that may convince Pardew to give Santon more time to settle, persevering with Taylor for one more run-out.

One possible knock-on from Taylor’s relegation to the bench, French midfielder Youha Cabaye, who has made an encouraging start to his career at St James’, could now be set for a more prominent role at set-pieces and in particular, direct free-kicks.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I was thinking either Sess -> Walcott or Bent -> RVP or the pig.

My plan was to do Hilario -> Given in GW5, but Ruddy's red may leave me with no keeper in GW4. Would probably rather play no keeper and get in RVP/Walcott and captain them in GW5. Hmmm. Bent -> RVP the current favourite....

What, so if Vorm and Simpson play well in future but don't reap any FPL points, it'll become "Blind Faith in Vorm + Simpson = Dangerous?"

A lot of people going on about Walcott but just like we learned from Torres, if a player (or team) isn't on form, don't expect them to score well even with easy fixtures

Cheers Hat.. Might ship out Cahill after Everton's 2 home fixtures and Suarez's easing up, but Suarez will most likely keep on rising in price.

Hard not to follow the kneejerk bandwagon with everyone buying Dzeko and Young.

Yeah keep Cahill (just make sure he is not injured during international duty) and maybe, just maybe consider keeping him for the big games in GW's 6,7 and 8 because the guy does have a knack of scoring against the bigger clubs.

So option 1 it is then, chucking Nzog and Brunt to ship in Walcott.

I think that's going to be the default front line from this week's wildcard changes.

      Mine is -

Vorm/Al Habsi (not a great fixture week for them admittedly!)

      Bosingwa/Ivanovic/Kompany (Simpson/Ward)

      Silva/Petrov/Adam/Anderson (Dyer)

      Rooney/Suarez/Dzeko.

Vorm and Mignolet or Begovic is the combo you want.

I have Vorm already and to be honest with you the guys as good this year as Foster was last year in my opinion. Even when he concedes he's going to get you save points.

Fantasy Gold. Shame I didn't get rid of Given last week when it wouldn't have cost me a transfer. No need for him and Vorm in same team.

Right, here is one for the early birds to consider.....

I have already done my two free transfers and I am left with an attacking line up of:

    Young, Yaya, Nzog, Moses, Fox

    Rooney, Suarez, Fletcher

    My question is this:

Should I consider a 4 point hit to get Nzog out before he drops in price?

Replacement options include Brunt, Barton, Cabaye, Etherington, Petrov. I have 1 mil in the bank.

Any input is as always greatly appreciated.

Thinking of getting Nzog out myself but looking at the replacements not worth taking a 4 point hit imo.

Might be a good idea, but do you think that any of your replacements will earn you your -4 back next week? That would be the main question.

I like Cabaye and Brunt out of the choices. Cabaye did pretty well last GW and looks to be getting more set pieces if Raylor loses his spot. Brunt also has some decent fixtures coming up and is the main creative force in West Brom's midfield. Again, they're not guaranteed to to earn more than 4 points... so it is a risk

finally come to my senses.. was gonna do sinclair to walcott for a 4 point hit(already kj'd torres to dzeko) but think i'll ignore that for now.. cause in 2 weeks..
I'll know if Sess/Moses/Sinclair can translate their football to points
Whether Arsenal look good again with their new signins and if walcott looks reliable
Whether Mata has 9.5 potential and Bosingwa still starts after 2 tough away games and with luiz back
Whether Tevez is threatenin for starts
Think i'll save my transfer next week.. take it slow and then use 2 free transfers on my team.. too many panic induced wildcards on here these days

I did the old Torres -> Dzeko already!

Got one trade left, may save it as well - I like the look of Mata as Chelsea Coverage.

Ok so thinking about wildcarding current team is this:

    Given (Al Hasbi)
    Bosingwa Simpson Hughes Kompany (Ward)
    Nani Malouda Silva Taarabt (Hoolahan)
    Holt Aguero (Smith QPR)

Basically I want to bring in Shawcross, S.Taylor, Rooney, Jose Enrique and Saurez.

No need to WC in my opinion. Your defence is fine. Downgrade Malouda and upgrade Smith to Suarez or Roooney.

You can change Nani next time around.

Morning Nomar - nice ranking. Imagine you (c) Roonpig!

Nice to see a team with Dempsey. I have my eye him. What you reckon?

I have 3m in the kitty to either get Nasri/Walcott/Dempsey.

          good call on dempsey.
i think fulham have a favourable fixture next month. so does arsenal (walcott)
nasri - rotation risk (champions league)
anyone considering arteta? everton play home on their next 2 GW

I have Baines. Baines was close to a goal and freekick in gw 2. Pity Arteta is back on peno's

            😡

Ful have 3/4 at home now and surely will start scoring again. Hoping Clint plays more advance with BZ injured. He seems to always go on a bit of a "run" once he scores.

It's a tough call with Walcott/Nasri also having nice fixtures.

Kinda want to get rid of Kompany and Hughes from the defence. Malouda has been a big dissapointment so far.
The Smith/Malouda change would cost me. :/

I wouldn't but then again my team is even worse than that and I'm holding fire on WC.

Have you used your free transfer already this week, coz I think minor surgery (maybe a 4 point hit) could you out for next game. Way too much kneejerkery going on IMO.

Not really, they try not and just pick Rooney/Silva/Ageuro/Lampard/Van Persie every week but theres no set budget.
