With the transfer window closing tomorrow, today’s Scribbles are something of a rumour-monger’s delight. Plenty of deals are up in the air, others are apparently imminent. The next day or two is going to be manic as the transfers move at breakneck speed and we’ll do all we can to keep you up to date:

Arsene Wenger’s attempts to restructure his Arsenal defence has kicked into overdrive. Armand Traore is off to QPR, with Brazilian left-back Andre Santos on the verge of a transfer to the Emirates. The 28 year old will offer plenty experience at the back and could be followed by Per Mertesacker– according to L’Equipe France, the centre half is on the verge of a deal and may even be confirmed as a Gunners player by tonight. A move for Chelsea’s Alex has also been mooted.

Bolton’s Stuart Holden will make his return to action this evening as Bolton’s reserves play Fulham. The American has been out since March with a knee injury and his influence has been sorely missed in central midfield by Owen Coyle’s side. Holden will offer plenty steel to a Trotters side that have lost the last two games and face a difficult run of fixtures over the next few Gameweeks.

Man City have failed in a bid to bring Mark Van Bommel to the Etihad Stadium. The Dutchman’s agent Mino Raiola explained just why he is a man in demand:

“The message of AC Milan was clear. Mark van Bommel is not for sale under any circumstances. They have the problem that Yaya Toure will spend considerable time out because of the matches for the African Cup. In addition, they also know that Mark van Bommel is excellent alongside Nigel de Jong. Hence they came in again for him.”

Edin Dzeko has thanked his manager for keeping faith in his abilities. The Bosnian was a shadow of his current self upon arriving in Manchester last season and having adapted to the rigours of the Premier League, is reaping the benefits with six goals in his first three games:

I am happy that he kept faith with me because I think that’s the most important thing in football – that the coach and the players around you believe in you. The beginning was hard for me, but I wanted to have a full pre-season with the team. Now I have had that and I know the league better. I feel much stronger than last season.

Reports indicate Carlos Tevez is expected to start City’s next match at home to Wigan. This could scupper the plans of Fantasy managers looking to bring in the likes of Sergio Aguero for the Latics showdown. The reasoning behind this line of thinking is that Aguero will take part in exhibition matches for Argentina that take place in India and Bangladesh, with the latter game just three days before the Wigan fixture. Tevez, on the other hand, has not been selected for international duty. The Wigan game starts a run of seven matches in three weeks for Roberto Mancini’s side, with the threat of rotation hanging over City’s first-team squad.

Bolton and Blackburn are battling it out for Liverpool’s forgotten front man Daivid N’Zog. Steve Kean is desperate for new recruits after a move for Hoffenheim’s Vedad Ibisevic fell through due to a thigh injury.

Harry Redknapp will battle it out with Roy Hodgson for the signature of Owen Hargreaves. Spurs are looking to increase their central midfield options and are willing to offer the ex-Man United man a short-term deal.

Steve Bruce is targeting Freiburg forward Papiss Demba Cisse as he looks to solve Sunderland’s striking problems. The Black Cats have found the net just once in their first three league games and were knocked out of the Carling Cup 1-0 by Brighton. Cisse was one of the top-scorers in last season’s Bundesliga and would cost around £13m.

Chelsea may turn to Raul Meireles if their attempts to buy Luka Modric are snubbed by Spurs. Meireles is currently out with a collarbone problem but, even when fit, has failed to make the Liverpool starting XI this season, falling out of favour after the summer influx of midfielders, and has made two sub appearances so far.

Stoke are looking to snap up new Chelsea forward Romelu Lukaku on a season-long loan deal. Andre Villas-Boas is looking for the youngster to gain Premier League experience and with Lukaku likely to play second-fiddle to Fernando Torres, Didier Drogba and Daniel Sturridge this season, a short-term move to the Britannia could be beneficial.

Newcastle are on the verge of signing Inter Milan fill-back Davide Santon. The twenty year old is currently at St James’ Park undergoing a medical as Alan Pardew looks to nail down a replacement for Jose Enrique at left-back. The move certainly limits the potential of Ryan Taylor as a long-term Fantasy option.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Options for Mids at around the 6mil mark...O'Hara, Brunt...who else...you guys reckon Murphy is an option? Anyone else...Perhaps a lower 5.5 mid better than the 6mil lot?

Finding it difficult to pick someone from those price categories...

Going to play my WC this week after a pretty terrible start!

    A.Cole, Torres, RVP and Graham

    making way for

    Bosingwa, Dzeko, Suarez and Rooney

Leaves me needing to save 0.9 in midfield, I currently have:

    N'Zogbia, Moses, Silva, Sinclair (Ferguson)

Thinking N'Zog out for Anderson at the moment - thoughts? I have 6.6m to spend.

I've gone for the same keepers. So agree with that obviously.

I've taken out Moses - if he's not going to do anything against the newly promoted sides, then I think he's not going to be a regular points scorer when they're against tougher opposition.

ManU have some fairly tricky games coming up, so perhaps having both Rooney and Young is a bit much, although perhaps worthwhile just to catch the price rise over the next fortnight.

Defence looks far more solid than mine.

Overall I'd say your midfield could do with some money spent on it - Moses or Dyer should really be upgraded. Otherwise it's a nice team.

Thanks mate! I totally agree with you regarding Moses, searching for a replacement has yet to reach fruition I have 0.6 in the bank so it may come in handy.

Also I couldn't argue regarding the midfeild. In all honesty I have tried my best to catch the price rises and have a decent team. I am considering Young>>>>Mata then spend the rest on upgrading Moses.

Sessegnon? Just 0.5 more. Not great fixtures, but he's having so many shots that some are bound to go in at some point. Personally I'd opt to keep Young if I were you, and maybe downgrade one of your strikers. That said, Mata does look like he could be the nuts......So yeah, scratch the above, but downgrade a striker to upgrade Moses to Mata.

dont think young and rooney are needed...could downgrade young to dempsey for a few weeks allowing you to have RVP for arsenal next month of fixtures. dempsey playing OOP seems nailed on and fulham have BUL wba and QPR in their next 4 fixtures...then get rid of RVP and get young back in

With Aguero, I worry that he won't be playing full games. He's far more likely to be subbed for Tevez than Dzeko is.

Nani is a risk as my ManU mates reckon he'll hit the bench as soon as Valencia is fit again to go. Young is a much better shout.

ManU still look a little shakey at the back, so I've taken Smalling out - I don't see them keeping cleansheets in their next three games.

WTF - who is William "fatty" Foulke in FFS h2h 2?

He scored -105 due to his transfers. Must have been p-offed that Herd scored 3 pts for him in gw 3.

Most of us will give a testicle to play in the "real" h2h's and this guys makes a joke about it.

Blimey, I didn't realise you'd got 2 Swans. @ 4 Taylor, Caulker and Vorm all look to be bargains for home games. Always fascinated by your defence. Shame you don't opt for the NE rotation!

I'm not WCing but my 5 at the back policy (Bos cole richard komp baines) is going to gradually be downgraded. Simpson in for rotation Richards to begin the process.

FPL really has gone to sh!t. Fair
enough they had a few issues early on with the new site but they’re after having the THIRD weekend of football and the site still isn’t reliable.Updating for about 12 hours yesterday. In previous years it’d be an hour at the very most.
But on top of that there’s too many
minor issues that when added up get quite annoying.

Price rise & falls has turned into a farce. It’s a total lottery which days and what times they’ll happen.
The visual side of the site still looks
    rough and unfinished.
Adebayor signed the same day as Mata and still hasn’t been added.
There’s no Price Rise and Prise Rise
Gameweek tabs on the transfer page anymore.
The whole new bonus system is crap.Silva played brilliantly yesterday and received none.Suarez played excellent the day before that and got none.
What’s the point in lumping on
more points to the players that’ve
    already gotten them through scoring..
all it does is broaden the divide instead of using the system to reward those who were deserving but happened to get none.
    The whole index on which
they allocate BPs now is rubbish and they’d be better doing away with them altogether = point in case Holt – the lad had a nightmare, wasted 2 golden opportunities yet because he scores when Hilario presents him with an open goal he gets a bonus point.
    Brilliant.
At least the monkeys with dartboards got it right occasionally last season.

Are they taking suggestion? I know alot of the issues cannot be fixed this season, but are they open to suggestions for next season.

I know, thus far, I have only cried about the negative, but do people have any ideas how they can improv the game?

I think the major issues are the Updates, Pricing and Bonus scoring.

      1. For updates, should they not incorporate a full lockout period from Sat 11.30(am) until Sun 12.00(pm). In this time they update scores, bonus and prices and at the same time block any transfers from players. It would alleviate the random up and down scoring and price changes.

      2. I think the pricing system needs to be performanced based rather than the transfer system. Say for instance a projected 150 pt Mid has 3.9 ppg which is equivalent to, say, 8m. If that player produces 2.0 ppg in two weeks, the third week would have his price drop. If he score 5.5 ppg in thw weeks, it increases. And if he increases you get the increase rather than half.

      3. I don't know where to improve the bonus system, so should it not refer back to the MoM awarded in the game. (With all the issues surrounding the new assist rule, perhaps this should go back to the awarded assist in the actual game.

Regarding your second point, how do they arrive at those projections?

I think the current system of prices reflecting transfer activity is far superior to any other possibility.

Reading it again, it does sound wishy washy. Let me try again.

Everyone's 2010 value (that has played FPL) is based on their previous average (or a discounted version due to injuries/limited games in recent seasons). Promoted Players start at standard prices, then adjustments are made for top performers from last season etc.

Changes in price during the season are calculated by:

          (75% x old price) + (25% x 3 Game Rolling Average)

          Example one:

If a 4.0 rookie averages 6 over the first 3 GW, then his price will change to:

          (90 x 4.0) + (10% x 6)

          = 3.6+ 0.6
          = 4.2 (+0.2)

          Example two:

A 10.0 premium averages 5 for the first 3 GW:

          (90% x 10.0) + (10% x 5)

          = 9.0 + 0.5
          = 9.5 (-0.5)

There is alot of software about that already does this in more detail. It is the system base for the AFL Dream Team and Supercoach. It also allows people to see who is projected to make a big increase or decrease. So you have to choose wether you want to make money or points. A combination of which will be needed.
It also rewards player picks for performance rather than 50% of transfer picks by People who don't have a clue.

Sorry, just rough calculation to get the idea. Obviously a Mean would have to be applied to the 10% value otherwise you would have ever increasing defenders etc.
