Arsenal have confirmed the signing of Mikel Arteta from Everton just minutes before the transfer window slammed shut. The Spanish midfielder has completed a move for a fee believed to be in the region of £10 million – Arteta has signed a four-year deal for the North London club.

The transfer looks to be the most significant of a busy transfer deadline day for Fantasy managers. Arteta brings his undoubted playmaking abilities to the Emirates, alongside tonight’s loan signing of Yossi Benayoun from Chelsea, as Arsene Wenger swoops to compensate for the departure of Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri. In Fantasy terms, Arteta represents a potential bargain – a cut-price route to Arsenal’s attacking potential prior to a run of favourable fixtures.

The deal for Arteta looked to have stalled earlier this evening with Everton believed to have rejected a proposed bid that included a Nicklas Bendtner plus cash deal. An hour later however, it was reported that Arsenal had returned with a straight cash offer after Arteta had requested to leave Goodison.

Arsenal were able to complete the deal before the deadline and now, presumably, Arteta will join up with his new team-mates ahead of the Emirates clash with Swansea a week on Saturday.

Arteta will attract immediate Fantasy interest. His passing ability and set-piece influence offers Wenger an added dimension in a midfield that has been robbed of key talent and, at just 8.0 in the Fantasy Premier League game, he looks a sound investment.

The Spaniard’s fitness will be a slight worry – like Robin Van Persie, Arteta is a talent that has been cursed by a string of injuries which have curtailed his Fantasy returns in recent seasons. Even so, in the mid-term, Arteta’s price and potential looks set to outweigh that concern, particularly as the Gunners ready themselves for a run of opponents which promises rich attacking returns with four home matches in the next six (SWA bla BOL tot SUN STK).

Arteta would seem set to take up a central role playing alongside a holding midfielder, or even in front of a Song/Wilshere combination, prompting and probing and offering a goal threat from range. Set-pieces are also in his locker and there is a chance, with Van Persie missing from the spot at Old Trafford, that Arteta could even be handed penalty kick duties.

Back at Goodison meanwhile, David Moyes is left with a squad that has seen Arteta, Jermaine Beckford and Yakubu depart today. The loss of the Spanish playmaker will come as a hammer blow to Everton’s ambitions this season.

For Fantasy managers, the departure of Arteta will restore Leighton Baines as the club’s spot-kick taker and land him responsibility for direct free-kicks. The left-back appeared to have surrendered those duties on Arteta’s return to the starting lineup at Blackburn last weekend, but will now have his return potential boosted accordingly.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

LOL @ Arsenal signings, the slowest player from Bundesliga, injury prone and out of form Arteta and worthless Benayoun 😀

Thumbs up to Tony Pullis and Stoke however, Crouchy will suit them just fine and Palacios is a great player!

Villa fans can also be happy with Hutton and Jenas, while Spurs fans have nothing to be happy about, Harry should really push for Cahill, but just like Arsene, he was not willing to pay the price!

a few shocks today especially meireles imo.

so i've chosen a few players to put in my wc team from today.

baines - on pens / set pieces
arteta - cheapest arsenal player to assist and score
crouch - at 6.9 with a move to stoke is a really good price
    meireles - not yet lol

arteta is an awesome signing for arsenal. Why are people laughing at this, he is a great player and has carried everton single handedly through several seasons.

benayoun wasn't given a chance at chelsea. At Liverpool in the season they finished 2nd he was pivotal and awesome. Good signing there and experience again which can only help the youngsters there

That XI would need to stay fit and on form all season to finish in the top 10 imo. Any injuries or bad spells and they're be overtaken. Actually I don't think they'll finish top10 even then.

Well for the reason of injuries I have no Saha there.

Others are not that injury prone, they have great CB cover in Heitinga, midfield cover is Rodwell, they are thin on strikers however, but Cahill is really not that injury prone.

Yeah get him back to form and he's in. Drenthe and Billy are tehnically both left wingers, so Osman could play right, even if I much prefer him to play in the hole. However if Barkley will play that position, I want him in my fantasy team.

I'm going to keep a close eye on Jack Wilshere now. If given some extra freedom while Arteta is busy lynching pins then he might just sneak up ...or he might not. Whatever.

Arteta is a good player but all I can see in him is a two-year plaster that screams "until we can get a Gotze" which in and of itself is a risky enough move.

If I was an Arsenal fan I would be content with this transfer. Very happy for the player though.

I always maintained that he's been honest in his attempts to get back to South America, not really interested in Real, Inter etc. But no suitable southamerican buyers for him.

TBH add motivated Tevez to the current City team and you have a brilliant squad! Up front you have Silva, Nasri, Aguero, Dzeko and Tevez, they are all world class players and you only need 4 of them, then you cement defence with world class DMs Yaya and De Jong! If they don't win either EPL or CL, Mancini should be fired.

'Diouf angered Kean when he came in for training with a Rangers top and league winner’s medal around his neck after a loan spell at Ibrox last season.'

    What happened to Spurs??

Got Old Parker yes, but sold Palacios, Bentley, Jenas.
Parker will miss one in three games, and that big hole that was obvious against City will still be there

With Tevez staying, I don't intend on keeping Dzeko around for too long. Want to make a small profit from him and then ship him before the inevitable happens...and he get's dropped. Common sense would be not to drop a player in good form, but this is Manchester City afterall...

I believe Dzeko is a starter for season, Aguero and Tevez are really not strikers like Dzeko is, they tend to drop deeper, however with that kind of support, Dzeko can go on and score 30 goals, as he's a natural poacher!

Mancini can even pick all 5 for matches like Wigan, He can play 442 with Silva and Nasri on flanks and Aguero behind Dzeko - Tevez. That could really destroy some of the defences!

I would love to believe that Mancini will stick with him but I don't think he will.

Brilliant signing for Chelsea getting Meireles, just the sort of player they need right now. Also delighted that the Van Der Wiel thing never materialised.

Question is where would they play him? Cant see an obvious position. 3rd midfielder with Lamps and Ramires?

Well, things may well have changed with the way FPL handle real life transfers, but back in the day, a player would be price-protected for 8 days following a move. "If" it's still the case, then yeah, it's impossible...

Everton look on for the drop. One Striker who is always unfit, an untested new Argentinian, and Cahill.

Nonense. They've lost Arteta who hasn't played consistently well for them in ages. They're losing Beckford who was pretty hopeless last season, a championship player if ever there was one.
They've got Coleman, Rodwell and Barkley getting improving, they've managed to hold onto their pretty strong defense.

      Top half finish for sure.

No need to be so extreme. Things are not always either black or white.

They're far too good to go down, but are likely to do worse than in recent years.

Ross Barkley might yet be a sensation with a few more games. Drenthe will add...something, I'm sure.

Baines, Jags and Cahill staying is good. This Argentinian kid had better do good, or else they might just well struggle for goals.
