Arsenal have confirmed the signing of Mikel Arteta from Everton just minutes before the transfer window slammed shut. The Spanish midfielder has completed a move for a fee believed to be in the region of £10 million – Arteta has signed a four-year deal for the North London club.

The transfer looks to be the most significant of a busy transfer deadline day for Fantasy managers. Arteta brings his undoubted playmaking abilities to the Emirates, alongside tonight’s loan signing of Yossi Benayoun from Chelsea, as Arsene Wenger swoops to compensate for the departure of Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri. In Fantasy terms, Arteta represents a potential bargain – a cut-price route to Arsenal’s attacking potential prior to a run of favourable fixtures.

The deal for Arteta looked to have stalled earlier this evening with Everton believed to have rejected a proposed bid that included a Nicklas Bendtner plus cash deal. An hour later however, it was reported that Arsenal had returned with a straight cash offer after Arteta had requested to leave Goodison.

Arsenal were able to complete the deal before the deadline and now, presumably, Arteta will join up with his new team-mates ahead of the Emirates clash with Swansea a week on Saturday.

Arteta will attract immediate Fantasy interest. His passing ability and set-piece influence offers Wenger an added dimension in a midfield that has been robbed of key talent and, at just 8.0 in the Fantasy Premier League game, he looks a sound investment.

The Spaniard’s fitness will be a slight worry – like Robin Van Persie, Arteta is a talent that has been cursed by a string of injuries which have curtailed his Fantasy returns in recent seasons. Even so, in the mid-term, Arteta’s price and potential looks set to outweigh that concern, particularly as the Gunners ready themselves for a run of opponents which promises rich attacking returns with four home matches in the next six (SWA bla BOL tot SUN STK).

Arteta would seem set to take up a central role playing alongside a holding midfielder, or even in front of a Song/Wilshere combination, prompting and probing and offering a goal threat from range. Set-pieces are also in his locker and there is a chance, with Van Persie missing from the spot at Old Trafford, that Arteta could even be handed penalty kick duties.

Back at Goodison meanwhile, David Moyes is left with a squad that has seen Arteta, Jermaine Beckford and Yakubu depart today. The loss of the Spanish playmaker will come as a hammer blow to Everton’s ambitions this season.

For Fantasy managers, the departure of Arteta will restore Leighton Baines as the club’s spot-kick taker and land him responsibility for direct free-kicks. The left-back appeared to have surrendered those duties on Arteta’s return to the starting lineup at Blackburn last weekend, but will now have his return potential boosted accordingly.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Just seen an interview with Andy Murray on Sky Sports news talking about the impact of the transfer window on his fantasy football team! He's excited about the prospect of Bendtner to Sunderland and Yossi to Arsenal!

If Yossi continues his pre-season form he could be an absolute steal for Arsenal's run of fixtures. Trouble is I don't know how he will fit in. Would he play out wide with Arteta in the middle, or vice-versa, anyone care to hazard (no pun intended) a guess?

        sorry, couldn't resist

i think arteta goes in the middle, they look in dire need of some solidity there

not so sure on yossi, he seems to lack the tactical discipline to run the show, might give wenger some positional headache on top of walcott. that said, he's definitely very gifted in finding the edge in the final third of the pitch

he will stick with central three, and Arteta will take the Fabregas position in that formation. Not sure how Benayoun will be deployed. I suspect his first choice front/wide three will be RVP, Theo and Gervinho. Benayoun could provide cover when one of them is unavailable.

I'm warming to the idea of an 8 point hit to do:

    Sessegnon to Arteta
    Bent to RVP

Could be a couple of very good differentials in my mini league. Already kneejerked to do Torres to Dzeko on Sunday for my free transfer. I'd be placing a lot of faith in an Arsenal resurgence and it could, given I have no Rooney/Nasri/Young/Silva, go horribly awry. I'm getting a little desperate, though.

Well, wrong decisions and I ended up having Carroll / Torres forward. I will drop one of them. I am fed up with Torres after the last two horrible matches. I still have some hope in Carroll.

    Team is
    Given
Bosingwa - Baines - R Taylor (De Laet, Young)
    Moses - Young - Nzog - Sessegnon - Silva
    Torres - Carroll (Graham)

Two transfers available and will not play the wildcard 🙂

I am thinking of firing Nzog and Torres and bringing in Jarvis + Rooney or RVP or Aguero. But I need to have some differential, otherwise I will never catch up.

I will also wait until the last moment to change players as I cannot risk losing players to injuries.

    Thanks for any input 🙂

Arteta for N'Zog and Torres to Bent could possibly work?

I would get rid if Carroll and Torres. RVP looks more attractive than he did with the new Arse arrivals, so I would get him in as a differential. How much money do you have in the bank after that?

Don't worry about them 3 all scoring big again! Sure it's possible, but they arn't Ronaldo types who will bag double figures every week. You have Rooney who will out score Young most of the time imo, and Aguero is capable of big hauls, ref gw1. So chill. Midfield is quite weak due to the low scoring of the cheaper options, but it has financed your strikers who are all captain material. Your in decent shape with that side

Why are you worried about no Young/Dzeko/Nasri when you have Rooney, Silva and Aguero? You can't have everyone and would need to sell at least one of those big names in order to get another. Then you'd run the risk of falling behind if the transferred player went mad, and you'd have wasted a transfer for the privilege.

I'm not sure that's worth a 4 point hit.. N'Zogbia would strike me as equally likely to score points as Arteta, and I'm not sure whethere there are any decent options at 5.5m for a hit.

A better balance could probably be achieved by 'downgrading' Aguero for Dzeko and then looking to get Arteta/Walcott in, but again that would involve a hit and if Aguero went mad you'd be kicking yourself. That's the risk you run I'm afraid!

Thinking about WC'ding, any opinions on these transfers:

    Hilario - Vrom

    R Taylor - Hutton
    Walters - Mata
    N'zogbia - Sinclair (or other <6.6 Mid)
    Silva - Arteta

    This Would make my team:

    Given/ Vrom

Kompany, Hutton, Bosingwa, Enrique, De Leat

    Mata, Moses, Arteta, Sinclair, Sessegnon

    Rooney, Dzeko, Suarez

I would wait until they are on 80-90% price rise. This is the site people on here have recommended:

            http://www.fiso.co.uk/crackthecode.php

But remember that players have to rise by 0.2m before you get a benefit (see rules about 50% loss on sales).

Think Real originally bought him for that position but he is too attacking and not a good defender so an attacking winger is the role he plays now. A bit like Bale has moved to.

A lot of his value was in free kicks and penalties, which he won't have at Arsenal. He was also played very deep at Everton for large parts of last season so it's not nailed on that he will fit into Fab role. Wait and see for me

Arteta will be in the middle making pretty passes for others to score from. He's not as good as Fabregas (not many are), but anyone who thinks he's not going to create chances and score a few goals is mistaken. He just needs to stay fit
