Arsenal have confirmed the signing of Mikel Arteta from Everton just minutes before the transfer window slammed shut. The Spanish midfielder has completed a move for a fee believed to be in the region of £10 million – Arteta has signed a four-year deal for the North London club.

The transfer looks to be the most significant of a busy transfer deadline day for Fantasy managers. Arteta brings his undoubted playmaking abilities to the Emirates, alongside tonight’s loan signing of Yossi Benayoun from Chelsea, as Arsene Wenger swoops to compensate for the departure of Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri. In Fantasy terms, Arteta represents a potential bargain – a cut-price route to Arsenal’s attacking potential prior to a run of favourable fixtures.

The deal for Arteta looked to have stalled earlier this evening with Everton believed to have rejected a proposed bid that included a Nicklas Bendtner plus cash deal. An hour later however, it was reported that Arsenal had returned with a straight cash offer after Arteta had requested to leave Goodison.

Arsenal were able to complete the deal before the deadline and now, presumably, Arteta will join up with his new team-mates ahead of the Emirates clash with Swansea a week on Saturday.

Arteta will attract immediate Fantasy interest. His passing ability and set-piece influence offers Wenger an added dimension in a midfield that has been robbed of key talent and, at just 8.0 in the Fantasy Premier League game, he looks a sound investment.

The Spaniard’s fitness will be a slight worry – like Robin Van Persie, Arteta is a talent that has been cursed by a string of injuries which have curtailed his Fantasy returns in recent seasons. Even so, in the mid-term, Arteta’s price and potential looks set to outweigh that concern, particularly as the Gunners ready themselves for a run of opponents which promises rich attacking returns with four home matches in the next six (SWA bla BOL tot SUN STK).

Arteta would seem set to take up a central role playing alongside a holding midfielder, or even in front of a Song/Wilshere combination, prompting and probing and offering a goal threat from range. Set-pieces are also in his locker and there is a chance, with Van Persie missing from the spot at Old Trafford, that Arteta could even be handed penalty kick duties.

Back at Goodison meanwhile, David Moyes is left with a squad that has seen Arteta, Jermaine Beckford and Yakubu depart today. The loss of the Spanish playmaker will come as a hammer blow to Everton’s ambitions this season.

For Fantasy managers, the departure of Arteta will restore Leighton Baines as the club’s spot-kick taker and land him responsibility for direct free-kicks. The left-back appeared to have surrendered those duties on Arteta’s return to the starting lineup at Blackburn last weekend, but will now have his return potential boosted accordingly.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I have Baines and Saha in my team. Think I'm going to keep Baines now with Arteta gone, but what about Louis? I've got the money to upgrade to Suarez, but with Beckford gone surely he has to play now? Or are Everton forwards to be avoided now?

Saha was always first choice when fit but I would avoid until Everton show any form. Two decent home games is followed by a horrible stretch of fixtures

Think I'll do the same, as long as it doesn't look like his price will drop again before next GW. Give him one more week and if he does ok I might recover some of the loss I've made on him.

Baines could be a more tricky decision in a few weeks time.

Thinking about WC'ding, any opinions on these transfers:

    Hilario - Vrom

    R Taylor - Hutton
    Walters - Mata
    N'zogbia - Sinclair (or other <6.6 Mid)
    Silva - Arteta

    This Would make my team:

    Given/ Vrom

Kompany, Hutton, Bosingwa, Enrique, De Leat

    Mata, Moses, Arteta, Sinclair, Sessegnon

    Rooney, Dzeko, Suarez

    (0.6) in the bank

its either this or just take a 4 piont hit for N'zogbia to arteta

Interesting signings from a ff perspective. Certainly makes Baines look increasinly important since he'll be on more or less everything now. N'gog will find his way into my team maybe as early as the Norwich game.

Arteta I'm not too sure on, he wasn't on hot form last season and I think I'll stear clear for a period. Anyone know what this does to Ramsey? Seemingly it restricts his attacking returns if not pitch time.

    Morning Guys,

FISO seems to be right on price changes recently (perhaps with the exception of Dzeko rising today).

I've wildcarded, so I'm now trying to buy just risers, only then I can think of my team for GW4 and on.

Do you know why NTIs of all risers were restarted today? E.g. Silva, Vorm or De Laet were already above 90% and now start from 0% without a price rise. Possible explanations: mistake, transfer window closed, new month?

Except Stoke the next 5 fixtures look pretty good for Suarez (Spurs have no defence and Derby games are generally hard to predict). Suarez seems pretty solid on everything that happens in the Liverpool attacks too & he's cheap. It feels difficult to take him out really.

Dzeko on the other hand won't be in my team, with Tevez still there and Champions League games I can't see him getting 90 minutes too frequently - form or not.

ok, i have wildcarded and come up with this. I know it is attack heavy but i don't mind that, it makes it more exciting somehow!

    Given - Vorm

    Woodgate - Simpson - Berra - Senderos - Brown

    Arteta - Nasri - Mata - Adam - Moses

    Rooney - Dzeko - Long

    1.1 in the bank.

    What do you think?

ahh walters and sessegnon arent going to be strikers anymore 🙁
i know they werent very good at it but at least it gave 2 'definitely getting a chance' cheap midfielder.

I'm ditching Sessegnon. He and Sunderland have done nothing to make me think he's as good a pick as most people seemed to think prior to GW1.. and with the new signings he isn't going to be much of a goal threat. Upgrading to either Arteta or Walcott closer to the deadline.

Yeah it's gone a bit crazy this morning. He was on about 40% yesterday and for the last few days though so don't think it's imminent. Would be surprised if his ownership was even high enough in the first place for him to drop 0.3, only mugs like us still have him.

Interested in Arteta, espcially with Arsenal's run of games. But SWP is interesting at 6.4m.

Would you go Bent + Arteta (both have good fixtures)

    OR

    SWP + Rooney?

Thinking medium to long term here.

Theres no one really firing at that price atm. General thoughs seem to be Brunt, Petrov, Wolves mid. Any Fulham players in that price range tickle your fancy?

Brunt or Wolves mid. Other than that it's a punt - Barton, Sess, Taraabt, SWP, Anderson. Pick one then switch to whichever one hits some form. Or find 1.5 for Arteta, who may finally offer value as an upper mid price midfielder.
