It’s a post-deadline day filled Scribbles this morning, folks. As the dust finally settles on some of Wednesday’s big deals, many of the main protagonists have been speaking about their moves and even those that didn’t pan out are revealing. Wesley Sneijder admits he almost made a switch to Old Trafford, while Kia Joorabchian, agent of Carlos Tevez, has now hinted at a long-term stay in Manchester for his homesick client. Here’s some quotes to chew over:

Reports today suggest Nicklas Bendtner has vowed never to return to Arsenal. The forward, currently on loan at Sunderland, feels he’s never quite been given the chance to prove himself at Arsenal and is determined carve out a career elsewhere:

“I will never go back to Arsenal. If I can have it my way, I will never play for them again. After my car accident I never really got the chance to earn a spot in the first team. That is over one-and-a-half years with no real chance to prove myself. I am really looking forward to playing for Sunderland and then we will see next summer.

I will find a new club – but I will not go back to Arsenal, that’s for sure.”

Wesley Sneijder has denied his failed move to Man United centred around wage demands. The Dutchman had been chased all summer by the champions and admitted that although he came very close to signing, it was more a matter of lifestyle that persuaded him to stay in Italy:

They [Manchester United] are one of the biggest clubs in the world, so it didn’t seem a bad thing. I just felt that it was close, yes. We had several talks. The situation was such that Inter had to sell a player, either Samuel Eto’o or me, and indeed there was interest. But at the same time I don’t want to leave Inter.

My feeling was that I was simply feeling very good at Inter. I love the club, but also the Italian culture and the people. It fits with me.

Brendan Rodgers has revealed his frustration as some of the Swansea bosses targets failed to materialize. Rodgers was looking for midfield reinforcements and the agent of Franco Borini, who had previously been on loan at the Liberty Stadium last season, also admitted Rodgers had missed out in another loan swoop for his client. The Swansea boss said:

So there was one or two players that we maybe wanted to get that we weren’t able to get but that was through no fault of our own, it was just circumstance and maybe just a little bit late.

But overall yes I’m relatively pleased and now it’s shut, we can now move on and we know where we’re at.

Alex McLeish was delighted with his capture of Alan Hutton on a four-year deal from Spurs. The pair had previously worked together at Glasgow Rangers and with Villa desperate for a right-back after Luke Young’s move to QPR, Big Eck swooped on deadline day to bring his compatriot to Villa Park. McLeish talked up the new boy yesterday:

He’s a good signing for us. We do lack a bit of experience in the squad. To get Alan, an international in his prime is a great coup for us. Alan has got five or six years ahead of him. There were some problems between him and Harry Redknapp, but you never know what happens.

I would certainly like to think, with the experience he has gathered, he should be able to come to our club and not be fazed in any way. He’s definitely got great athleticism.

Carlos Tevez’s advisor Kia Joorabchian admitted yesterday that his client may have a long-term future at Manchester City after all. The agent was on record as saying:

At the end of the day – as Carlos said at the end of the season – professionally, he is happy at the club. He is happy in the situation, it was more to do with his family really.

He has managed to convince his wife to come over for a while at least. If she manages to settle in hopefully in the next four or five months, maybe he will settle down and things will be fine.”

Per Mertesacker revealed yesterday he has apparently been an Arsenal fan for years. The new Gunners centre half spoke of his delight and relief that the move to the Emirates finally came through:

This affinity has grown over more than 10 years and now the loop closes because I am delighted to finally get to play at a team I always supported and where I always wanted to appear eventually. I think Arsenal had been watching me for a while and had intended to sign me for a while.

It was a strange situation for me because it was not clear for a long time what would happen and it dragged out to the very end. It is a dream come true and it is a very attractive challenge.

Craig Bellamy made all the right noises upon his return to Liverpool. The Welshman spoke of his admiration for Kenny Dalglish and admitted the chance to play under his boyhood idol was just too good to turn down:

“I’ve grown up with Kenny Dalglish, now to be signed by him is a massive honour. To every Liverpool fan, Kenny is probably the best player ever to pull on the red shirt so that speaks for itself.

I am coming into a club not just with Kenny, but with Clarkey [Steve Clarke] and Kevin Keen, people who I have worked with really closely and who know me inside out. I’m coming to a Liverpool where the people here know what I need to do to play in this team.”

Mikel Arteta explained the chance to play on the European stage was just too good an opportunity to turn down. The former Everton midfielder’s move to Arsenal took everyone by surprise but Arteta hopes the Toffees fans remember him with fondness as he heads to the bright lights of the Emirates:

It is a big opportunity for me and my family and I think it is the right time for me to take it. It is a big challenge, a different challenge, fresh for me and I want to see myself on the biggest stage, the Champions League.

I am 29 years old so I haven’t got much time left to take a chance like this one. I think I have done my best for Everton. I always try hard, I have been as professional as I could and I was grateful for the support and the love that the club and the fans showed me.

Peter Crouch spoke of the frustration that forced him to leave Spurs for Stoke. The forward also acknowledged the faith shown in his abilities by Tony Pulis played a large part in his decision to move to the Britannia:

No player wants to sit on the bench. I was happy living where I was living but while sitting on the bench might be good enough for some players, I want to be playing and enjoying my football.

The manager here made it quite clear he was extremely keen on bringing me here and I felt it was the right time for me to move on. I genuinely believe the best is yet to come from me. And I believe that will come with Stoke City now.

        Agreed

I got 2 free transfers for GW4... Torres out for sure... Dzeko cheap in scheme of things.

Aguero/Tevez - got to be rotation risk there. Unless they all play together!

You would say that Dzeko does have to be a starter - but of course, the exact same argument would be made for Tevez and Aguero as well.

I think by far the most likely eventual outcome is that they will play two of the three pretty much every game from now until January, with each of them taking it in turns to drop out.

trying to get a sense of who he sees as his more Champions League-friendly options may be an interesting piece of information here. One thing is for certain; with the midfield options he now has, Mancini will not be playing all three of them together.

I think people saying Dzeko is nailed on is hope over knowledge, because they have him cos he's a bit cheaper than the others. Until they play regularly we really can't be sure.

Nah, it's based on him being their target man, ignore FPL price. His main rival is Balotelli who is a turd, Tevez/Aguero are very similar smaller players - very few strike partnerships like that have done well because it's harder to utilise crosses or long balls when need be.

+1 I have him and I'm hoping he's nailed on too but it is just hope. I suppose the only justification I can come up with is the form he's currently in, I'd imagine Mancini wants to capitalize on it.

I've got Aguero and my fingers crossed,I don't see the point of a TF to Dzeko until I know. Hopefully Tevez will be CL mainstay, though this again is just personal hope.

I think Dzeko will be be more present in the team as he's a different type of striker, while Aguero and Tevez are more similar so hence more prone to rotation.

So Wenger made a late loan attempt to bring Gourcuff to the Emirates? sucks, I want to see him in the EPL. I like him, he was absolutely awful last season for Lyon though. Still, what's with Wenger trying to get everybody on loan? it's like the Fabregas & Nasri money vanished.

Lyon spent £20m on him lst year and will not accept a loss. No way this guy is worth more than £15m on current form/fitness.
A loan would be a good option for both clubs.

    I have two points

I think arteta will act as an effective foil for van persie therefore making both worthwhile investments (although RVP at 12 could still be better used elsewhere) Wenger of all people will be able to make use of Arteta a (formerly?) good playmaker, dribbler and drawer of fouls.

Adebayor is another who should make an impact, 200 points in his most prolific fantasy football season, although afew years ago he is only 27 now and for a player of his nature should be at the peak of his game. 5 goals in 14 appearances for real madrid (off the bench? im not sure) says to me that with regular starts he could become very prolific again.

Im not going to waste my wildcard yet getting them in but one transfer each week, depending on how they look.

    any thoughts?

I hate to break it to you, but 2 points by GW3 isn't all that good 😉

Don't get me wrong I think Arteta will be perfect for Arsenal and I really rate him, but for FPL points Arteta < Walcott, and if you're limited to 8m/8.5m there are several other options out there imo.

So was checking FISO yesterday for potential price increases, and it looked like everything had been reset and the highest ones were far off, however this morning Silva went up despite his NTI being really low yesterday.

I'm a bit new to FISO does anyone know what happened?

Today the highest NTI is only at 15%, is this reliable?

Have been using FISO (over totalfpl)... seemed to be a good indication. Last couple of days bust and don't think the other is being updated "maintenance".

Therefore, just follow transfers on the actual site for now. Plus, the price changes seem pretty sporadic and not as regular as they should be, so *atm* price chasing doesn't seem as important as it could be.

No talk of Balotelli starting against Wigan? Hasn't played a minute yet this season and looked good in pre season, wouldn't like to see the strop if he isn't involved against Wigan! Silva/Nasri/Aguero would be under risk if Mancini decides to play him! Strong possibility in my personal opinion!

Strongly contemplating starting with two City forwards in my wildcard team, to then switch the one that isn't Dzeko to Rooney next week. Would love a one week punt on Tevez/Balotelli/Aguero, because if they play they could tear it up against Wigan.

I'm very tempted by Tevez, but there's so many established forwards capable of ripping it up it's TOO much of a risk.

Of those three, Augero is the safest punt, and will likely score big this week. At 12m Tevez punt will obviously hurt you in the Midfield.

Yes but Balotelli has annoyed Mancini. He's acted like a twat on a few occasions and I reckon Mancini dislikes him. Usually happens with Balotelli.

    Trying to squeeze Baines in.
Ignore who else is in my team, purely return based.
    Thoughts on..

    A. Baines + 5.5 mf
    B. Arteta + 5.5 def/Walcott + 4.5 def

Fingers crossed I get a couple more price rises and the 5.5 becomes a 6.0

    Yaya Toure > Arteta
    Sessegnon > Mata

For a 4 point hit. Worth it?

I have Osman aswell, but think he’s worth keeping because of Evertons fixtures.

I don't think Arteta for Yaya is worth a hit. I may be massively wrong but Yaya can score and has a couple of assists already in a City team that's on fire, Arteta is new to a team that hasn't found it's feet yet.

Sess > Mata on its own would be fine.

After countless attempts at trying to squeeze him into the team I think I've given up on Baines. He cripples the rest of the team and no doubt I'd want to take him out in two weeks given their horrible fixtures from GW6. Plus Everton look poor. Bah to him I say.

I'm still going with him for the next two weeks, and probably even captaining him the week after next when most of the better teams have difficult fixtures. Will start with Baines + Dyer in my wildcard team, and swap to Kompany + 6.5 midfield in a couple of weeks.

I think it's already been said, but doing well this season looks quite dependent on picking the right City attackers at the right time. It's going to need balls, but there's no way you can just pick a front 3 and then leave them as. Knowing when to switch Rooney out is going to be key. Sorry if this is the bleeding obvious.

Problem is, he won't be starting every week. Welbeck's not out for too long (about a month), and Utd will probably play 4-5-1 in the more tricky away games.

If you get Rooney, you know he won't ever be rotated for tactical reasons, only to rest him (which applies to any player).

    Yes! I have decided...

    Out Torres -> In RVP
    Out Silva -> In Dempsey

    Keeping Carroll and Nzog!

May lady luck be with me!

Yes, it´s a risk removing Silva, but I have faith in Dempsey... he saved me twice last year haha 🙂

Fulham will play two at home - he is a starter for sure. He is on set pieces also.

Silva will be rotated, if he plays against Wigan...

I would love it if Ben Arfa is back fit for week 6.

Anyone know what has happened to Player Manager?

Played last season a bit and intended to really have a crack this season. We got an email in GW 1 to say they wouldn't be ready in time (why are all the Fantasy games struggling? :)) but it's still not live.

Re: "treating Baines like a midfielder"...I have begun thinking about possibly taking that literally and playing a 4-3-3 with a couple of poor bench midfielders. 0.5 goes much further in defence.

I've gone with that approach from the start with the view to keeping it until GW6.
