Back after a one-week hiatus due to the international break, we renew our acquaintance with the Premier League fixture list and attempt to slice out the juicy fruit from the bruised flesh. In other words, here’s our weekly rundown of those with favourable fixtures and ripe for investment.

The Highs

Arsenal
An upcoming run of promising-looking showdowns could not have come at a better time. Arsene Wenger has made some significant moves in the transfer market and, with Gervinho and Alex Song returning from suspension after this weekend, there is a potential new start looming for the Gunners following their Old Trafford drubbing.

On paper, no other side can compete with the attacking potential on offer over the next six Gameweeks – a run that has Arsenal facing Swansea, Bolton, Sunderland and Stoke all at home, will surely provide handsome returns if they can find a semblance of form. Even trips to Blackburn and local rivals Spurs offer the opportunity for goals.

The Arsenal defence will enjoy a facelift over the coming weeks with the arrival of Andre Santos and, in particular, Per Mertesacker. They could be in line for immediate starts with Arsenal facing up against opposition which appear to give them the perfect platform to start building a clean sheet tally.

West Brom
The Baggies face three away trips in the next four but they are all against teams which should give Roy Hodgson’s side opportunities for goals and results. Trips to Norwich, Swansea and Sunderland should bear some fruit, while a home clash with Fulham in Gameweek six will also be approached with confidence. The fitness of both Shane Lone and Peter Odemwingie is crucial, however – both are currently going into this weekend as injury doubts.

Defensively the Baggies are never a team to tempt investment but, over the next set of Gameweeks, their opportunity for returns at the back looks very strong – easily the healthiest within the low-to-mid price bracket, making Jonas Olsson a potential transfer target.

Wolves
Mick McCarthy’s side have confidence flowing through the camp and a short-term fixture list to keep the engine running. Three Molineux matches in the next four offer the opportunity for the likes of Matt Jarvis, Kevin Doyle and Steven Fletcher to continue their form, while Jamie O’Hara and Stephen Hunt will be looking to come out of their shell with some first returns of the season.

With encouraging defensive displays already in the back and with McCarthy demonstrating a desire to keep clean sheets with his tactical switch at Villa Park, there appears to be continued potential from the likes of Roger Johnson in the coming weeks.

Also consider…
Newcastle – rock solid in defence so far, the fixture list continues to deliver opponents that could keep the returns coming for the likes of Steven Taylor and Danny Simpson.

Chelsea – three away trips in four, including a stint at Old Trafford, is perhaps a challenging task but Andre Villas-Boas’ side are facing defences which should offer them opportunities with a strong goal return on the cards if Juan Mata can settle.

Fulham – like their West London neighbours, Fulham have fixtures which should give them plenty of scope for boosting the “goals for” column. Home clashes with Blackburn this weekend, together with Craven Cottage meetings with QPR and Everton look particularly favourable.

The Lows

Man United
Don’t get us wrong, United are flying and, in attacking terms, remaining a massive Fantasy force. The main concern is undoubtedly in defensive quarters. While Chris Smalling, Jonny Evans and Phil Jones are performing superbly, the fixture list continues to deliver them opponents with a significant goal threat. The Old Trafford clash with Norwich in Gameweek 8 may well be the only United cleanie in the coming weeks.

That will, of course, mean Alex Ferguson’s side will be forced to kill games off with their considerable firepower – Wayne Rooney and company won’t have it all their own way against Chelsea, Liverpool and City over the next six but it will be brave Fantasy manager to turn their back on the on-fire striker.

Everton
Two attractive home fixtures in the next two Gameweeks will ease Everton into the post-Arteta era but, following that, things become decidedly sticky for the Toffees. Games against City, Liverpool, Chelsea and United all lie in wait from Gameweeks 6-10, posing potential problems at both ends of the field. If Leighton Baines’ hamstring keeps him out of the next two, it’s doubtful that he’ll find his way into many Fantasy lineups until that particular storm has passed.

Blackburn
Defensively, Blackburn are in for a torrid time with the new partnership of Scott Dann and Chris Samba set for a series of challenges early on. Certainly, over the next four Gameweeks, it’s difficult to see Steve Kean’s side keeping a shut-out and that will mean that the attacking players will have to come to the fore if Rovers are to earn results. Given the performances so far, that seems doubtful.

Be wary of…
Stoke – Liverpool, United and Arsenal are all on the radar in the next six Gameweeks, handing new boys Peter Crouch and Cameron Jerome a challenging start to their new life in the Potteries. Clean sheets look hard to come by, too.

Wigan – a journey to City this weekend is just the start of three away trips in four, split by a home clash with Spurs in Gameweek six. While Franco Di Santo has form and Hugo Rodallega and Victor Moses have shown intent, the Latics may struggle to make an impression in the coming weeks.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Guys appreciate some help! Got two free transfers.

    Given (Vorm)
    Boswingwa Brown Simpson Kompany Senderos
    N’Zogbia Moses Sinclair Brunt Silva
    Rooney Suarez Torres

I am looking to get rid of Torres and thinking RVP is my best option. But would need to raise 1M to get him, so would only fancy doing N’Zogbia to Jarvis but need to act fast as Jarvis is at 6.3 and N’Zogbia has dropped to 7.4, what do you guys think?

    Therefore should I do:

    A) Torres to RVP and N’Zogbia to Jarvis (.1M left)
    or
    B) Torres to Dzeko and maybe N’Zogbia to Walcott (.5M left)

I want to keep N’Zogbia for fixtures but I can’t see how I really can. Any one have any other suggestions?

        A) You have Silva from City, a good long term option, you can't beat RVP for Arsenal cover, there are also a few decent options in the Jarvis price range for when he has a bad fixture and you have a free transfer. Just my opinion though.

I prefer B as Dzeko and Walcott are good scorers. However, rotation risk for Dzeko especially in the upcoming weeks (due to CL).

      What about Adebayor?

    With an outstanding team of

    Given Kenny
Cole Martin Simpson Bardsley Jose Enrique
    Lampard Sinclair Taarbt Nzogbia Moses
    Torres Bent Holt

I’m think of using my two frees to do Torres & Lamps – RVP & Silva. What you’s think? admittedly this would have been the ideal time to WC but this is the first i have had access to the net and i’ve missed all the rises.

If anyone feels like chucking their two penneth in, I have a couple of questions:

1 - Silva or Nasri? I really feel like it's an arbitrary choice; either could be rested, either could score double figures. Anyone got any insight into this little conundrum?

2 - Baines being injured has scuppered my plans a little, so how would you spend an extra 3m on this team?

    Krul Vorm

Ward Bos Olsson Warnock De Laet

    Walcott Silva/Nasri Dyer Petrov Taarabt

1 - There really is nothing to point to one or the other imo, make your choice and hope for the best
2 - Suarez to RVP, although there is every chance Baines may still play

I'm tempted to get RVP, but a) I'll want Suarez back pretty much immediately (and I'll lose a tiny price rise which will annoy me) and b) I'll then have 21m tied up in a frankly abysmal Arsenal team.

I dont know anything about 'homer', i personally think walcott is overpriced at 9.0 so i'd downgrade, i'd go sinclair over dyer, and RVP over dzeko, because there is far too much rotation in the city striking line. Ade is a good dif or could play safe and go suarez.

    Hello all. Long time etc....

Have 3mil in bank, next move is a hit and looking at getting some Arsenal coverage in to captain probably

    Its either
    A. Sinclair to Walcott
    or

    B Suarez to RVP

    Front 6 is currently

    Lampard, Sinclair, Hoolahan
    Suarez, Dzeko, Rooney.

Edging towards A despite the captain safety of RVP and Suarez tricky fixtures.

I agree, Sinclair is in some need of upgrading. Suarez to RVP is swapping one good player for another, albeit another with better fixtures. I've got sinclair in my team. I look at him with tears in my eyes at my misjudgement.

Probably go for Dzeko - Rooney - Suarez but the above looks so tempting and involves no hit.

RVP just scored four against San Marino (who are basically Swansea during the last 15 mins against Man City).

If he can get through the Finland game I'm sure he will do well.

Only problem is I think I want Dzeko long term. That stat someone posted here about his second seasons at teams being awesome and his mega scores so far are very tempting. Trouble is so many good forward possibilities this eyar.

Im probably going to try get Walcott maybe and get some of RVP points. He is in essence a striker too.

a 4 3 3 with walcott high to the right moving inside is a striker. His goals tally shows this.

19 goals in 117 appearances suggests otherwise. Last season he had 9 in 28. 3 of those were against 10 man Blackpool. Leaving 6 in the other 27.

As an Arsenal fan I don't rate him particularly highly and would rather have Van Persie and restructure the rest of the team.

Unfair to use Walcott's tallies historically - since he broke in at age 16 or 17, many of those appearances are less than 30 min appearances from the bench, and his use as a wide midfielder also limits some goals in past. Agree that he is by no means consistent and 9M is certainly not 'value' but he does have 10+ pt potential. Can see 2,3,2, 14 with managers dropping after a run of 2's and 3's and missing the 14 pt game. : )

I was merely disproving the previous suggestion using the stats he claimed backed him up.

He is not value on this game for me as a winger who can't cross. His finishing is usually very good so if he ever gets a chance up front I'll reconsider.

Yeah, i want Dzeko long term too.

A non-performance against Wigan, would bring some calm to his price rise, and i plan on bringing him in for RVP anyway. As long as i'm sure in my mind, that RVP will do as well, if not better than Dzeko in the next three, then i'm willing to go without him.

And i'm not too worried about if he rises to 9.5 for example as it's still 2.5 less than RVP and would give me significant funds to strengthen later

Tevez is a shoo-in for the Wigan game. He's got young Mario and his millions sitting around doing nothing as well, plus european games on the horizon. Aguero will likely be rested as he plays in some god forsaken place during the week.

        I'm going to semi-boldly predict

Balotelli -Tevez - Silva frontline with Nasri behind and Dzeko coming on as a sub.

Buggumark it and laugh in my face this weekend. the only problem is that Dzeko can still score 10 plus even as a sub.

Kenny rotates pretty well with Vorm, so I would go for him. Jose Enrique, Jonas Olsson, Kompany and A. Cole are different value defenders worth considering.

In midfield, I would be tempted to consider either Arteta or Walcott such are Arsenal's fixtures but if you want a longer term option maybe look players like Sinclair, O'Hara or Brunt.
