Back after a one-week hiatus due to the international break, we renew our acquaintance with the Premier League fixture list and attempt to slice out the juicy fruit from the bruised flesh. In other words, here’s our weekly rundown of those with favourable fixtures and ripe for investment.

The Highs

Arsenal
An upcoming run of promising-looking showdowns could not have come at a better time. Arsene Wenger has made some significant moves in the transfer market and, with Gervinho and Alex Song returning from suspension after this weekend, there is a potential new start looming for the Gunners following their Old Trafford drubbing.

On paper, no other side can compete with the attacking potential on offer over the next six Gameweeks – a run that has Arsenal facing Swansea, Bolton, Sunderland and Stoke all at home, will surely provide handsome returns if they can find a semblance of form. Even trips to Blackburn and local rivals Spurs offer the opportunity for goals.

The Arsenal defence will enjoy a facelift over the coming weeks with the arrival of Andre Santos and, in particular, Per Mertesacker. They could be in line for immediate starts with Arsenal facing up against opposition which appear to give them the perfect platform to start building a clean sheet tally.

West Brom
The Baggies face three away trips in the next four but they are all against teams which should give Roy Hodgson’s side opportunities for goals and results. Trips to Norwich, Swansea and Sunderland should bear some fruit, while a home clash with Fulham in Gameweek six will also be approached with confidence. The fitness of both Shane Lone and Peter Odemwingie is crucial, however – both are currently going into this weekend as injury doubts.

Defensively the Baggies are never a team to tempt investment but, over the next set of Gameweeks, their opportunity for returns at the back looks very strong – easily the healthiest within the low-to-mid price bracket, making Jonas Olsson a potential transfer target.

Wolves
Mick McCarthy’s side have confidence flowing through the camp and a short-term fixture list to keep the engine running. Three Molineux matches in the next four offer the opportunity for the likes of Matt Jarvis, Kevin Doyle and Steven Fletcher to continue their form, while Jamie O’Hara and Stephen Hunt will be looking to come out of their shell with some first returns of the season.

With encouraging defensive displays already in the back and with McCarthy demonstrating a desire to keep clean sheets with his tactical switch at Villa Park, there appears to be continued potential from the likes of Roger Johnson in the coming weeks.

Also consider…
Newcastle – rock solid in defence so far, the fixture list continues to deliver opponents that could keep the returns coming for the likes of Steven Taylor and Danny Simpson.

Chelsea – three away trips in four, including a stint at Old Trafford, is perhaps a challenging task but Andre Villas-Boas’ side are facing defences which should offer them opportunities with a strong goal return on the cards if Juan Mata can settle.

Fulham – like their West London neighbours, Fulham have fixtures which should give them plenty of scope for boosting the “goals for” column. Home clashes with Blackburn this weekend, together with Craven Cottage meetings with QPR and Everton look particularly favourable.

The Lows

Man United
Don’t get us wrong, United are flying and, in attacking terms, remaining a massive Fantasy force. The main concern is undoubtedly in defensive quarters. While Chris Smalling, Jonny Evans and Phil Jones are performing superbly, the fixture list continues to deliver them opponents with a significant goal threat. The Old Trafford clash with Norwich in Gameweek 8 may well be the only United cleanie in the coming weeks.

That will, of course, mean Alex Ferguson’s side will be forced to kill games off with their considerable firepower – Wayne Rooney and company won’t have it all their own way against Chelsea, Liverpool and City over the next six but it will be brave Fantasy manager to turn their back on the on-fire striker.

Everton
Two attractive home fixtures in the next two Gameweeks will ease Everton into the post-Arteta era but, following that, things become decidedly sticky for the Toffees. Games against City, Liverpool, Chelsea and United all lie in wait from Gameweeks 6-10, posing potential problems at both ends of the field. If Leighton Baines’ hamstring keeps him out of the next two, it’s doubtful that he’ll find his way into many Fantasy lineups until that particular storm has passed.

Blackburn
Defensively, Blackburn are in for a torrid time with the new partnership of Scott Dann and Chris Samba set for a series of challenges early on. Certainly, over the next four Gameweeks, it’s difficult to see Steve Kean’s side keeping a shut-out and that will mean that the attacking players will have to come to the fore if Rovers are to earn results. Given the performances so far, that seems doubtful.

Be wary of…
Stoke – Liverpool, United and Arsenal are all on the radar in the next six Gameweeks, handing new boys Peter Crouch and Cameron Jerome a challenging start to their new life in the Potteries. Clean sheets look hard to come by, too.

Wigan – a journey to City this weekend is just the start of three away trips in four, split by a home clash with Spurs in Gameweek six. While Franco Di Santo has form and Hugo Rodallega and Victor Moses have shown intent, the Latics may struggle to make an impression in the coming weeks.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

OK the main question marks are Agbonglahor, Petrov and Dyer. But there will always be less than perfect players in there when you have Young, Silva, Walcott, Rooney and Dzeko.

Personally I'd rather get Doyle in up front and upgrade one of the midfield 2: Petrov->Brunt perhaps. But your options could easily outperform mine, not much in it.

Well I've had Agbonlahor from the start and even though I'm currently wildcarding he is staying in my team. Mentioned it before 6.5 v 10m for Bent - Agbonlahor is excellent value and Villa's fixtures still look good, plus he is picking up bonus pts too. Also enables more to be spent on the other attacking positions while considering Agbonlahor to be a strong pick too.

Who's talking crap? No-one goes by resale value, just overall value. My resale is 100.5 but it means nothing unless you're playing the "Money game" that some like to.

If you've gotten players in the team you can sell for profit chances are you'll be keeping them anyway.

Calm down pal, clearly "tezzaboy" is talking crap- your team is linked so I would never accuse you of such a thing.

I was just asking about resale value because a lot of people do play the money game and act like they have 102m or whatever to spend, when they actually don't.

Indeed, as you say, the players that rise by huge amounts tend to be ones you want to hold onto, so in fact team value is a fairly pointless stat.

There was a question the other day, which posts annoy you the most... hands down for me it's post of the "my team value is 104.9m, is that good?" variety.

Yeah, damn right - it's like Arnie wearing a skin-tight T-shirt and saying "Do my arms look big in this?".

Sort of smug self-gratification. But yeah, the money thing is pointless at this stage, may come into play later in the season should someone you bought cheap get injured but by and large you could easily come top with millions in the bank if you played well/got lucky.

I'm even considering him now despite slagging him off on the last page! 😀 But then that's mainly because Adam is potentially broken... I'll see how Walcott looks for England tonight - if he dribbles himself off the pitch three times he's never getting in my team.

You should be able to get 11 starters from that lot? Even if your a def short I don't think it's worth it to take a -4 hit. If the new def keeps a cleanie you end on 2 effectively.

When you WC you need to get rid of Evans/Senderos. To much risk IMO.

    Morning guys.

Don't think I have ever been in a worst position than I am right now:

    Orr (Doubtful)
    Baines (Doubtful)
    Long (Doubtful)
    Bent (Doubtful)

Already made my transfer (Torres-->Jecko) and bit of a waste to play WC now seen as I missed all the price rises. Any tips on how i can sort this mess out?

don't panic, warnock and taarabt can come off the bench. These injuries are just temporary. Just sub out one injured player you don't want permanently.

Thanks for reply (great name btw).

First thought is to just make one transfer for a 4pt hit, either Baines or Bent to maybe to Mertesacker or RVP respectively. Try and at least get in on a good run of fixtures. Would transfer out whoever I knew wasn't playing.

Having said that with a distinct lack of players that everyone else seems to have maybe Bosingwa or Rooney should be the targets.

Agreed, I can see why you would be worried but you should be able to still field a decent team of 10 players and be left with only having to take a chance on 1 of your injured players.

So don't WC, just wait until you hear any confirmation regarding any of your injured players and just choose the one that sounds most likely to play.

That's a bit of a pickle alright Jimmy... you may yet get good news on some of those doubtfuls though, so all is not lost. Don't do anything until you've got some more concrete news, that's about all the advice I can give at the moment.

You have decent subs though, so don't panic. In fact I should take a screenshot of your team and use it as a textbook example of why it's important to have subs who do actually play, to show to people when they include Ferguson in a RMT.

Well it has been a tactic for a long time of mine. Always pick a side full of players that play. Mainly as this is the kind of luck I have! 😀

It wouldn't be so bad if my team was firing on all cylinders but that's not the case right now.

Yeah I am sitting tight at the moment, definitely Saturday morning transfer for me I think. If I catch a break then I might just get away with fielding a full side and avoiding a 4pt hit.

Well here goes, as long as you are aware that my own team is in dire straights at the moment.

That looks good for me. I think Lampard is fine, if he doesn't perform then dropping down will be easier. I like that you have RVP over suarez for example. Which Taylor is that at the back? I would go with Steve over Ryan.

      8/10 for me.

If you want my opinion, Lamps is overspend. Who do you think would get more points: Walcott & Mata OR Lampard & Brunt. No matter how fu*king awseome RvP is, two expensive players will outscore just one. You should always have one 12m player for captaincy though. Just my opinion...

It's a f*cking joke. You're going to be able to afford a whole new player soon if you used your WC early. I deliberately didnt use my WC as didnt think the 0.1 (selling) gain on players was worth it - having watched early gainers last year.

I know. Early in the week. Lots of time for miraculous recoveries. If it was just one or two I'd take it on the chin (normally I wouldn't have even traded so early in a GW esp pre internationals but I'm not about from thurs) but three big hitters are currently limping around in my team so think I'll be forced to

Yes, the points don't actually come off until the GW closes. E.g. if you take a hit you won't see it come of your total straight away. So they just check to see if you played the WC and ignore any points hits that would have been applied.

He's a good player, but it's rare enough he gets a goal or assist. One of those 'good in real life pretty shit in FPL' type players. I'd look at Cabaye instead, he's on corners, probably freekicks now that Santon will replace Raylor and there is a pretty good chance he'll be on pens too.
Always involved, good creative passer with a nice shot.

Adebayor is a good striker, did well for Arsenal - never really got going at City but scored well at Real as well, Tottenham has no real option but to play him - he could hit 15 - 20 goals

looks good, not a big fan of Adebayor though but he might do well and he is a good price.

Maybe Ruiz, fulham have some decent fixtures coming up or possibly downgrade to Doyle,Long,Klasnic and upgrade one of your mids. but if you think Ade will do well for you go with your gut.

Am I missing something here? What is so special about the username The Giggs Boson?

The 'Higgs Boson' particle, what the scientists at CERN are looking for. Just a play on words.

Yes - unlike you! 🙂 The Higgs Boson is a postulated(theoretical) particle, which they are trying to find with the Large Hadron Collider ... Giggs you know about! 😀

Hi guys, looking to get some rmts:

      Given,Vorm
      Kompany,Bos,Shawcross,Simpson,Da Laet
      Silva, Walcott, Brunt, Dyer, ??
      Rooney, rvp, ??

      1. Can anyone suggest any mid/fwd for my team above with 13mil remaining? Can downgrade Given and Shawcross to get an extra 1M on the next gw.

      2. Who is the most sensible (c) in my team for this week? Roon?Rvp? Sivla?

      appreciate any suggestion

Cheers, Petrov looks good, considering him after Bolton's fixtures of MU, Arsenal and Chelsea. Havent got a clue about Ruiz besides the youtube clip.

Yeah im looking to get someone different, bringing in all the Jarvis, Wards and Dzekos is bit boring when everyone in my mini league have them :/

Hey hey, wondering if anyone can give a clueless aussie some advice 🙂
      Given (Vorm)
Bosingwa Enrique Simpson (De Laet R.Taylor)
      Silva Walcott Young Barkley (Dyer)
      Suarez Dzeko Rooney
      1.5 in the bank.
My plan is to go use 2 free transfers next week to go Simpson/R.Taylor (Whoever Santon replaces) > Brown and Barkley > Cabaye, sound good?

Since you put it like that ... 😉
My advice would be to swap Raylor to Hughes. Cabaye - it's up to you. Is this a wildcard team?
