Back after a one-week hiatus due to the international break, we renew our acquaintance with the Premier League fixture list and attempt to slice out the juicy fruit from the bruised flesh. In other words, here’s our weekly rundown of those with favourable fixtures and ripe for investment.

The Highs

Arsenal
An upcoming run of promising-looking showdowns could not have come at a better time. Arsene Wenger has made some significant moves in the transfer market and, with Gervinho and Alex Song returning from suspension after this weekend, there is a potential new start looming for the Gunners following their Old Trafford drubbing.

On paper, no other side can compete with the attacking potential on offer over the next six Gameweeks – a run that has Arsenal facing Swansea, Bolton, Sunderland and Stoke all at home, will surely provide handsome returns if they can find a semblance of form. Even trips to Blackburn and local rivals Spurs offer the opportunity for goals.

The Arsenal defence will enjoy a facelift over the coming weeks with the arrival of Andre Santos and, in particular, Per Mertesacker. They could be in line for immediate starts with Arsenal facing up against opposition which appear to give them the perfect platform to start building a clean sheet tally.

West Brom
The Baggies face three away trips in the next four but they are all against teams which should give Roy Hodgson’s side opportunities for goals and results. Trips to Norwich, Swansea and Sunderland should bear some fruit, while a home clash with Fulham in Gameweek six will also be approached with confidence. The fitness of both Shane Lone and Peter Odemwingie is crucial, however – both are currently going into this weekend as injury doubts.

Defensively the Baggies are never a team to tempt investment but, over the next set of Gameweeks, their opportunity for returns at the back looks very strong – easily the healthiest within the low-to-mid price bracket, making Jonas Olsson a potential transfer target.

Wolves
Mick McCarthy’s side have confidence flowing through the camp and a short-term fixture list to keep the engine running. Three Molineux matches in the next four offer the opportunity for the likes of Matt Jarvis, Kevin Doyle and Steven Fletcher to continue their form, while Jamie O’Hara and Stephen Hunt will be looking to come out of their shell with some first returns of the season.

With encouraging defensive displays already in the back and with McCarthy demonstrating a desire to keep clean sheets with his tactical switch at Villa Park, there appears to be continued potential from the likes of Roger Johnson in the coming weeks.

Also consider…
Newcastle – rock solid in defence so far, the fixture list continues to deliver opponents that could keep the returns coming for the likes of Steven Taylor and Danny Simpson.

Chelsea – three away trips in four, including a stint at Old Trafford, is perhaps a challenging task but Andre Villas-Boas’ side are facing defences which should offer them opportunities with a strong goal return on the cards if Juan Mata can settle.

Fulham – like their West London neighbours, Fulham have fixtures which should give them plenty of scope for boosting the “goals for†column. Home clashes with Blackburn this weekend, together with Craven Cottage meetings with QPR and Everton look particularly favourable.

The Lows

Man United
Don’t get us wrong, United are flying and, in attacking terms, remaining a massive Fantasy force. The main concern is undoubtedly in defensive quarters. While Chris Smalling, Jonny Evans and Phil Jones are performing superbly, the fixture list continues to deliver them opponents with a significant goal threat. The Old Trafford clash with Norwich in Gameweek 8 may well be the only United cleanie in the coming weeks.

That will, of course, mean Alex Ferguson’s side will be forced to kill games off with their considerable firepower – Wayne Rooney and company won’t have it all their own way against Chelsea, Liverpool and City over the next six but it will be brave Fantasy manager to turn their back on the on-fire striker.

Everton
Two attractive home fixtures in the next two Gameweeks will ease Everton into the post-Arteta era but, following that, things become decidedly sticky for the Toffees. Games against City, Liverpool, Chelsea and United all lie in wait from Gameweeks 6-10, posing potential problems at both ends of the field. If Leighton Baines’ hamstring keeps him out of the next two, it’s doubtful that he’ll find his way into many Fantasy lineups until that particular storm has passed.

Blackburn
Defensively, Blackburn are in for a torrid time with the new partnership of Scott Dann and Chris Samba set for a series of challenges early on. Certainly, over the next four Gameweeks, it’s difficult to see Steve Kean’s side keeping a shut-out and that will mean that the attacking players will have to come to the fore if Rovers are to earn results. Given the performances so far, that seems doubtful.

Be wary of…
Stoke – Liverpool, United and Arsenal are all on the radar in the next six Gameweeks, handing new boys Peter Crouch and Cameron Jerome a challenging start to their new life in the Potteries. Clean sheets look hard to come by, too.

Wigan – a journey to City this weekend is just the start of three away trips in four, split by a home clash with Spurs in Gameweek six. While Franco Di Santo has form and Hugo Rodallega and Victor Moses have shown intent, the Latics may struggle to make an impression in the coming weeks.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I need to get in a City defender but am 0.1 short for Kompany. With 5.9, I can get Clichy but how secure is his place on the LB?

Is there any chance that S Taylor might go up another 0.1 before the deadline, so that I can get Kompany???

clichy will always rotate kolarov, what makes it worse is that he is likely to play the difficult games as he is better defensively, which means less potential for CS.
mancity defence is not a must have atm. they are going optimisticly forward and leaking goals at the back

I personally would have Silva/Nasri over Young, but I'm sure you've pondered this decision.

I know Arsenal are supposedly going to explode into form, but do you think having 2 of them is wise?

I think arteta and rvp to be overkill, i would tend to think you might be better suited to downgrade arteta to a 6m midfielder, and upgrade dzeko to suarez

In my opinion there is only one player in the whole game who is essential for the forthcoming 6 weeks or so - RVP.

Forget Rooney, Dzeko, Suarez, Silva, Lampard, Mata, Nasri, Young, quite simply Robin Van Persie (providing he does not get injured tonight) is going to score very well in the coming weeks and is a perfect captaincy candidate. Home to Swansea is perfect and when you look at next week match ups you'll find RVP away to Blackburn is as good a captaincy pick as there is available (he has a good record against them).

Yes the other players will score well, but the priority should be to get RVP in ahead of any other player. Four outstanding home fixtures and away trips to Blackburn and Tottenham where there could quite conceivably be goals. He is on corners, free-kicks, penalties and realistically our only striker.

A complete no-brainer in my opinion.

im not waiting and watching his points roll in!
The fact he has only 5.5% ownership makes him even more essential in my opinion.

Of course hes at arsenal right now, so that makes a difference. But Walcott is looking like the guy who needs to step it up if Arsenal are gonna have any hope for the top 4. Just my opinion.

Agree on Bale. You need to factor in the absence of VDV, making him on set-pieces and Adebayor can get a few goals with his head from Bale crosses in open play. £8m well spent at a time when not many are considering him. Also feel Spurs will win at Wolves this weekend making instant returns very possible.

Time to pick players who will do well inspite of the games to date. At £6m, I see Mertesacker doing quite well too and his goalscoring record is quite encouraging. Can see him nodding home from a RVP corner in the next 2-3 weeks and despite the general consensus on Arsenal defenders the fixtures are very, very sound and finally more options are available making us very different to the opening 3 games.

Not necessarily, depends on the aims of your wildcard. Im still contemplating it, but not until after the internationals. My main concerns at the moment are Arsenal (and RVP) running riot and Rooney not doing much of anything, on that basis, im considering a wildcard to shift my coverage. I would also add the Man City rotation in there, but i honestly think that they'll all be prone to it.

How do you see what price you bought a player for?

I cant remember if the players rose before I bought them and I want to know if I have made any profit.

Thanks for all the comments above. Annoyingly I got carried away and had found an extra 0.5 from somewhere, actual team I can afford is:

    Given (Vorm)
Bosingwa Kompnay Enrique (Simpson De Laet)
    Nasri Arteta Jarvis Brunt (Dyer)
    Rooney RVP Dzeko

    £0.0 in the bank

I know having Arteta is prob biggest question mark, but dont see anyone else at that price worth it either.

Reposting, got lost in the last page,

Hi guys, looking to get some rmts:

    Given,Vorm
    Kompany,Bos,Shawcross,Simpson,Da Laet
    Silva, Walcott, Brunt, Dyer, ??
    Rooney, rvp, ??

    1. Can anyone suggest any mid/fwd for my team above with 13mil remaining? Can downgrade Given and Shawcross to get an extra 1M on the next gw.

    2. Who is the most sensible (c) in my team for this week? Roon?Rvp? Sivla?

    appreciate any suggestion

Feels like a massive risk having 3 Arsenal cover, although their fixtures are tempting. Havent got the chance to see Norwich play, but Holt seems more than decent for his price.

Trying to get some arsenal cover in my team for the next few weeks.

    Can either go

    1.Walcott and Dzeko or
    2.RVP and Brunt / Jarvis.

    Have 2 free transfers.

RVP and Brunt for me. Consider the captaincy potential of RVP and whether you will captain Walcott or Dzeko who could be on the bench at any time soon.

Generally, regarding Walcott, he looks good for this weekend as Gervinho is suspended.

So to me Arshavin and Walcott v Swansea.
      Gervinho and Walcott v Dortmund

Will Theo start at Blackburn the next weekend? Possibly as there is a Carling Cup game the midweek after Blackburn, but he would have played quite a few games back to back and it quite conceivably could be Arshavin and Gervinho. At the very least he is likely to be subbed around 65-75mins in some of the forthcoming games.

Mertesacker and RVP (Club Captain) look certain to start IMO the next six juicy league games and should be plenty of Arsenal coverage for any Wildcard team, leaving space for the likes of Silva and Bale in midfield spots.

        Cheers for the advice!

I've already got Silva who is a certain to start for me and don't want to risk the Dzeko / Walcott rotation really. Plus by going RVP I've potentially got the price rises still to come rather than Dzeko who may have risen as much as he is going to.

        Agree with the captaincy options.

That's sorted it then, RVP it is.

Not really - I like Silva too, just not worth the extra. Yaya has a different function - both are needed. If Nasri continues to integrate and fire, Silva will be more at risk, imo.

He certainly was whilst at Barcelona, although Mancini did use him differently last season. But I think he'll be one of the two deeper midfielders this season for City, along side De Jong.

With all the options up top I doubt he'll play higher up the pitch very often. More often than not, I think it'll be:

          --------------- Hart ----------------
          Richards - Kompany - Lescott - Clichy
          --------- De Jong ---- Yaya ---------
          --- Nasri ----- Aguero ----- Silva --
          --------------- Dzeko ---------------

With the obvious headache for us regarding Tevez/Dzeko/Aguero/Silva/Nasri etc all rotating.

Yaya can play defensive and attacking, which is kind of good for FPL as he stands a good chance of starting in a tricky club to predict. But also bad for the obvious reason that there's mounds of good attacking players at MC but very few good defensive ones.

    hi guys,

What do you think are T.Cahill's prospects?
I haven't got the chance to watch any of Everton's game this season.

I mean with Beckford, Yakubu, Arteta out of the picture... & Saha, Baines, Anichebe with questionable fitness...

How will all these absences affect Cahill's game?
Will he be moved to a much more attacking role?

Cleverly will struggle to get any gametime. Fletcher is back and there is lots of other competition.
Moses still could do something, but that one is over for me.
Petrov got a few tricky fixtures, improve in a few weeks.

Morning guys, anybody care to give an opinion on the latest version of my team.
    Krul Vorm
    Enrique Boswinga Warnock Brown Simpson
    Nasri Mata Jarvis Brunt Dyer
    Rooney RVP Adebayor

Problems I can see so far - may have to double on Newcastle but then they do look like the best value defense this year. Missing out on Dzeko and Suarez but I'm not too concerned as rotation and fixtures mean that I'd rather get RVP and captain him most weeks. Mata is a punt and may change to Theo if he's going to be fit with Brunt becoming Taarabt.

good call on adebayor, noticed yesterday an ownership of 0.4% so very tempting especially with the price rises this year, although bad fixtures coming. i brought him in anw.

Arsenal have a good run of fixtures, but just remember that RVP is injury prone. Not sure what shape Adebayor is in either. Keep an eye on your goal keepers too.
On paper, it's a strong team. Good luck.

I'd expect 8 points from your 8 defenders most weeks but might just be offset by that attack. Risky but could pay off.

with all the rmts iv seen throughout the years on this site, i have never seen a player throwing 3 defenders from the same team.... ever, i never even thought it might happen. can u imagine what will happen if newcastle concede 4 goals in one average fixture?

Somebody did quite well last year having 3 defenders from two different teams who were cheap and rotated. Takes balls but if you get good value it can work out.

Where is Kolo Toure in the fantasy league?
I doubt K.Toure is match fit, but he's available for Man City's next game against Wigan after serving his ban.
    Definitely one for the watchlist.

Why? He's gonna be too expensive anyway...

How do you know he'll be too expensive? I remember his price being around 6.5 last season, but I'd expect it to be less if the fantasy league introduced him now as I don't believe he's first choice at the moment.
