Back after a one-week hiatus due to the international break, we renew our acquaintance with the Premier League fixture list and attempt to slice out the juicy fruit from the bruised flesh. In other words, here’s our weekly rundown of those with favourable fixtures and ripe for investment.

The Highs

Arsenal
An upcoming run of promising-looking showdowns could not have come at a better time. Arsene Wenger has made some significant moves in the transfer market and, with Gervinho and Alex Song returning from suspension after this weekend, there is a potential new start looming for the Gunners following their Old Trafford drubbing.

On paper, no other side can compete with the attacking potential on offer over the next six Gameweeks – a run that has Arsenal facing Swansea, Bolton, Sunderland and Stoke all at home, will surely provide handsome returns if they can find a semblance of form. Even trips to Blackburn and local rivals Spurs offer the opportunity for goals.

The Arsenal defence will enjoy a facelift over the coming weeks with the arrival of Andre Santos and, in particular, Per Mertesacker. They could be in line for immediate starts with Arsenal facing up against opposition which appear to give them the perfect platform to start building a clean sheet tally.

West Brom
The Baggies face three away trips in the next four but they are all against teams which should give Roy Hodgson’s side opportunities for goals and results. Trips to Norwich, Swansea and Sunderland should bear some fruit, while a home clash with Fulham in Gameweek six will also be approached with confidence. The fitness of both Shane Lone and Peter Odemwingie is crucial, however – both are currently going into this weekend as injury doubts.

Defensively the Baggies are never a team to tempt investment but, over the next set of Gameweeks, their opportunity for returns at the back looks very strong – easily the healthiest within the low-to-mid price bracket, making Jonas Olsson a potential transfer target.

Wolves
Mick McCarthy’s side have confidence flowing through the camp and a short-term fixture list to keep the engine running. Three Molineux matches in the next four offer the opportunity for the likes of Matt Jarvis, Kevin Doyle and Steven Fletcher to continue their form, while Jamie O’Hara and Stephen Hunt will be looking to come out of their shell with some first returns of the season.

With encouraging defensive displays already in the back and with McCarthy demonstrating a desire to keep clean sheets with his tactical switch at Villa Park, there appears to be continued potential from the likes of Roger Johnson in the coming weeks.

Also consider…
Newcastle – rock solid in defence so far, the fixture list continues to deliver opponents that could keep the returns coming for the likes of Steven Taylor and Danny Simpson.

Chelsea – three away trips in four, including a stint at Old Trafford, is perhaps a challenging task but Andre Villas-Boas’ side are facing defences which should offer them opportunities with a strong goal return on the cards if Juan Mata can settle.

Fulham – like their West London neighbours, Fulham have fixtures which should give them plenty of scope for boosting the “goals for” column. Home clashes with Blackburn this weekend, together with Craven Cottage meetings with QPR and Everton look particularly favourable.

The Lows

Man United
Don’t get us wrong, United are flying and, in attacking terms, remaining a massive Fantasy force. The main concern is undoubtedly in defensive quarters. While Chris Smalling, Jonny Evans and Phil Jones are performing superbly, the fixture list continues to deliver them opponents with a significant goal threat. The Old Trafford clash with Norwich in Gameweek 8 may well be the only United cleanie in the coming weeks.

That will, of course, mean Alex Ferguson’s side will be forced to kill games off with their considerable firepower – Wayne Rooney and company won’t have it all their own way against Chelsea, Liverpool and City over the next six but it will be brave Fantasy manager to turn their back on the on-fire striker.

Everton
Two attractive home fixtures in the next two Gameweeks will ease Everton into the post-Arteta era but, following that, things become decidedly sticky for the Toffees. Games against City, Liverpool, Chelsea and United all lie in wait from Gameweeks 6-10, posing potential problems at both ends of the field. If Leighton Baines’ hamstring keeps him out of the next two, it’s doubtful that he’ll find his way into many Fantasy lineups until that particular storm has passed.

Blackburn
Defensively, Blackburn are in for a torrid time with the new partnership of Scott Dann and Chris Samba set for a series of challenges early on. Certainly, over the next four Gameweeks, it’s difficult to see Steve Kean’s side keeping a shut-out and that will mean that the attacking players will have to come to the fore if Rovers are to earn results. Given the performances so far, that seems doubtful.

Be wary of…
Stoke – Liverpool, United and Arsenal are all on the radar in the next six Gameweeks, handing new boys Peter Crouch and Cameron Jerome a challenging start to their new life in the Potteries. Clean sheets look hard to come by, too.

Wigan – a journey to City this weekend is just the start of three away trips in four, split by a home clash with Spurs in Gameweek six. While Franco Di Santo has form and Hugo Rodallega and Victor Moses have shown intent, the Latics may struggle to make an impression in the coming weeks.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Hard to say. Ferige seems to like the dynamic midfield he got with Anderson and Cleverley, and Anderson have been performing. If he keeps it up then he will make it hard for Ferguson to drop him, but both Carrick and Fletcher are nailed on the get some starts eventually. So not a 100% guaranteed starter, but can't see him getting benched for Bolton this weekend.

i reckon another 15 or so could be justifible (this is excluding injuries of other midfielders)

Can’t decide about Spurs atm. I will bring in Adebayor at some point but not until Spurs’ form picks up. And their fixtures really aren’t as bad as people are making out: Wolves and Wigan away (arguably 2 of the easier fixtures) and Liverpool and Arsenal at home who Spurs have always found the net against.

I really dont know what to do with dzeko. Part of me thinks he could easily be sat warming the bench this week but then on the other hand he could start and smash another 4 in against weak opposition. Decisions decisions.

Too much chance of rotation in alot of teams this season. I can see christmas period being a right nightmare. City , liverpool, united, chelsea all have loads of options.

Only ever posted twice before but didn't get a reply. Hoping for 3rd time lucky!

    My current WC team is:

    Given / Vorm
Enrique / Bosingwa / Kompany / De Laet / Simpson
    Silva / Arteta / Young / Dyer / Ferguson
    Rooney / Suarez / Dzeko

My question is should I do these changes or not: R.Johnson in for Da Laet, Meirless in for Young and Brunt for Ferguson. This would give me better balance across the team but missing out on Young?

You maybe best off downgrading Young to another approx 6m mid (Jarvis or Cabaye perhaps?) to make that work. And perhaps saving the cash to upgrade back to Meireles if he cements starting role.

Or play simpson out of those 3.

Generally speaking, soft muscle injuries like calf, thigh, groin etc are a sign of bad physios.

Breaks & tendon injuries are down to luck.

I think Arsenal get a massive amount of soft muscle injuries in comparison with the rest of the teams in the league, you would think that this would be a concern by now but no.

Going for a somewhat different approach and having both Rooney and RVP upfront.
This leaves me with a decent midfield and a horrible defence.
Here's what the team looks like atm.

    Given (Vorm)
Bosingwa Enrique Brown Simpson De Laet
    Silva Lampard Dyer Jarvis Henderson
    Rooney RVP Holt

I'm considering downgrading Lampard -> Mata, thus allowing me to upgrade Holt -> Adebayor.

Not a bad team I reckon.

With reference to that you'll likely rotate him with Norwich (otherwise GWs 6 and 8 are hell - Swansea, or cost too much - Stoke, WBA)

Also Ward offers better access at the same price (if you avoided the price jump)

I say this because you've wildcarded and now you're taking stupid risks.

Dzeko is a rotational risk, and Arteta is a risk (will improve like Young, or whither away like N'Zog?), don't give yourself the additional risk of Meireles who will not start and if he did start he'd play in Ramires's role behind Lampard and the other 3 attackers.

Also as common as the Given/Vorm combo is, it doesn't rotate that well. Schwarzer, Kenny and Krul are better options with Vorm.

    Hi guys thoughts appreciated.

    Sczezny Vorm
    Bosingwa Kompany R.Johnson (S.Taylor, Brown)
    Taarabt Walcott Nasri Brunt (Moses)
    Rooney Suarez Doyle.

    Cheers in advance..

Sczezny - no, there is no justification for him. Nearly every 5.0 keeper is better than him (Schwarzer, Begovic, Given)

Your bench defenders cost too much - Simpson and de Laet are good 4.0 options. Alternatively, switch out RJ to Ward and use your rotations with Taylor/Brown.

Taarabt and Moses have come and gone, neither shone in their easy games (although the way this season has gone they may score in the 'harder' fixtures). I'd just be concerned at that price range that you could get a Wolves mid, Petrov, Tchoyi Etherington or give Cabaye a chance. Take 0.5 from earlier funds to get 2x 6.0 mids.

Doyle - I would kick out, rather get Hunt/O'Hara/Jarvis for Wolves cover. Either drop to Holt or upgrade with extra funds to Fletcher if you want Wolves cover, or take a punt on Bendtner, Ruiz or even get Agbonlahor.

Moses played well and didn't score, he shot from stupid areas and was very wasteful - hence he got taken off in his last game (same frustration that is driving N'Zogbia to liability status)

Taarabt, fair enough, but now he's competing with other players for share of spoils. For 6.5, there's a couple better options in my view.

Fair enough. I don't have either. Just don't agree they've come & gone, both should score well this season.

Can't be A, since we can't be sure about Baines and you can't react on Friday.

I'd go B because I don't like de laet and Ruddy being in the same team, and I don't think Walcott will beat Jarvis by _that_ much.

Cheers guys, I'm torn between B and C now. Tempted by three big mids, my mini-league rival has 4 big mids in his WC, so feel like I need to compete with that. Saying that, B is much more solid.

You left out Barkley over Rodwell, also too much in defence, I think Ward is in for Kompany in that team. And Given/Schwarzer/Begovic over Krul for me

Finally - Barton? Jarvis is surely the 6ish mid pick.
