Jack Wilshere is told to rest and take it easy. Theo Walcott admits Arsenal morale is down and is looking for a boost from the new signings. Andy Carroll lacks fitness, according to Fabio Capello, Sir Alex Ferguson praises Chelsea and- while talking in the third person- Kolo Toure vows to prove the doubters wrong. Here’s this morning’s Scribbles, folks:

Sir Alex Ferguson has talked up Chelsea’s title chances over the weekend. This follows comments from United first-team coach Rene Meulensteen that the Blues were “too old†to maintain a challenge. In an interview with club magazine Inside United Fergie calmed the waters, saying:

They have tremendous experience… there aren’t any young kids in that team. But they don’t have 36 or 37-year-olds like Ryan Giggs. Lampard and Drogba are 33, Anelka is 32 – not dissimilar to Carrick and Rio Ferdinand, and we wouldn’t be saying they are dead and buried, would we? So why should they be? They’ll still be a big threat and we expect them to challenge.

Theo Walcott has remained upbeat after Arsenal’s 8-2 drubbing at Old Trafford. The winger admitted that while morale could be an issue amongst some players after the defeat, he is confident that with the help of their five new arrivals, the Gunners can pick themselves up ahead of next weekend’s home match with Swansea:

A lot of people dropped their heads as soon as that fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth goals went in. Maybe the organisation wasn’t quite there either. The dressing room was completely dead afterwards. It is hard to recover from that result and it could hurt a lot of players.

But Arsenal are a big club. You have to be able to react to those sort of moments. New faces tend to get everyone bubbling. We all have to lift our spirits and hopefully those new signings will do the job.

Charlie Adam has withdrawn from the Scotland squad after picking up a hip knock. The news means he must be considered doubtful for Liverpool’s trip to Stoke this weekend. Bad news for Kenny Dalglish, with the midfielder beginning to hit his stride after the summer move from Blackpool.

Jack Wilshere has been warned not to rush back from injury, after yesterday’s news that the midfielder will be out for two to three months with an ankle problem. Wilshere has been playing through the pain barrier since midway through last season and further exacerbated the problem in pre-season:

It’s massively frustrating, even more frustrating as I had a successful season and felt I could really push on. I’ve had a bit of a setback but I’m still feeling good about the season and hopefully I’ll be back as soon as possible. I spoke to the manager and he just said for me to take my time and come back when I’m ready.’

Having lost John O’Shea to hip and calf injuries, reports today suggest Shay Given is a doubt for the Republic of Ireland’s midweek game with Russia. Ireland No.2 Marco Tardelli explained:

“Yes, it is a problem in the back. I saw him play for Aston Villa against Wolves, then he rested for two days when he came over to Dublin. He played the match against Slovakia and played very well, he finished the match but now there is a little problem.â€

Kolo Toure is fit and available for selection after serving his six-month ban for failing a drugs test. The Ivorian’s return will place question marks against Joleon Lescott’s game time at the heart of the Man City back-four and he is determined to make up for lost time:

I want to show all the people that think Kolo Toure needed tablets, water tablets, to be a better footballer. I will give 100% in every single game to show those people I don’t need water tablets to be a strong man. I’ve been in this league for almost 10 years now, being unbeatable with Arsenal, doing a lot of good games. I just want to show them and that’s what I will do.

Having been dropped from Liverpool’s last game, Andy Carroll was warned by Fabio Capello that he lacks fitness and needs to get into better shape. The forward has had a poor start to the season, with his career somewhat stalling since the January move from Newcastle:

Andy didn’t play the last game with Liverpool and probably he is not at the top. Also he is big. He needs to play games, games, games. It’s the start of the season. In this moment, some players are really good and run a lot. In the last 20 minutes [on Friday] we had everything – ball possession, chances to score, because we were fresh. We were winning 3-0 but we were fresh. When these players…like Andy, will be fit, at the top of their form, they will be important.

David Moyes doesn’t have his trouble to seek right now and yesterday saw another problem arise for the Everton boss. Victor Anichebe looks to have suffered a groin injury in Nigeria’s 2-0 win over Madagascar and further limits the Toffees forward options, after the departures of Yakubu and Jermaine Beckford in the transfer window. Nigeria boss Samson Siasia said:

“It is very sad for him, He was huge for us today. he did all the right things, played well and unfortunately, had to come off in the last three minutes with an injury. But that’s football. It’s very unfortunate, but I hope he gets well soon so he can continue to feature for his club.

That pitch was not very good and we are lucky our players did not get serious injuries. Hopefully, Anichebe will be fine after getting some medical attention. Our thoughts will be with him.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

My main issues are Baines and Saha. I was only planning on keeping Baines for his 2 nice home games, might as well get rid now if he won't play. Even being a doubt is too risky I think. Saha just has to go.

the only thing that matters is whether your team needs a wildcard to fix it up. WC Fever is runnin rampant. Don't become another number.

Yeah I agree it's a bad idea unless your team really needs it, def wouldn't use it just to chase a bit of value. An 8.0 def injured and a non-player in one of the forward spots is wildcard territory though I reckon.

Time will tell... strategically speaking, there are so many positives to playing your WC last Saturday/Sunday. Before an international break is ideal, and I'd wager that by the time Friday comes around, there'll be another raft of injury scares that should play even more into the hands of those who have thrown their WC on the table. Price rises are an added bonus, but should only be a secondary driver. I get the sense that there are a significant amount of people on here who are genuinely infuriated by people playing their WC this "early"... and from the fact that there were unlimited free xfers in GW2 that should have negated the use of your WC.

Personally I couldn't give a monkey's when people use their WC, but if your team can be significantly improved & you have the opportunity to make a few bob for your transfer budget, as well as completely remove the stress of monitoring injuries from international games, then good luck to you.

Yeah after GW8... so really your ideal WC windows [barring injury/suspension crisis] would be GW3/4, GW7/8, Jan [Given] & sometime around March Int break. As to which of those windows to use, don't really think there's a right & wrong answer... as I said above, time will tell.

only scored 122 by 3 GW, so played my wildcard and made £1.1m so far.

I have a good team now, and if I hadn't used WC I probably wouldn't be able to afford them at a later date.

This is common in the early days of the season, FPL seems to have changed things and the guys behind the sites will need some time to figure it out.

My team now valued at 101.8m.

Happy but what is going on? I don’t remember this level of prices rises last season so early

Considering game week 2 was also a free surely this is a bit odd.. Or is this just representative of the number of WCers

He was the only reason why i didn't play my wc and now I have already used my 2 free transfers because of the stupid price rises. He better be fit for the weekend or else i'm screwed.

well its not that bad if its a knock, 1 game in general, however some rumors suggest its a hamstring which means missing the two easy games before a horrible run of fixtures!

    Hey lads,
i was so sure of myself 10minutes ago,
I had a theory and a delcious theory at that! Baines! glorious baines!
However to my horror i have found both Adam and Baines injured; so i ask too much of you all yet again, ðŸ™
    I have 3.7Million in bank,
    Firslty out adams in Arteta!
and my current side looks like this
    Krul,Vorm
Boswinga, Smalling, Ward, De Laet, Enrique
    Arteta,Sliva, Obertan,Dyer,Anderson
    Dzeko Suarez Roonpig

i have a couple of options in front of me
    1. Out Ward for Taylor Swansea out obertan for walcott
    2. Out Obertan in downing (12 good players)
    3. Out Obertan in Barry (12 good players)
    4. Out Obertan in Wright Philips out arteta in Nasri
    5. Out Ward in mertersaker out Anderson in Barry
Option 6. go on as planned in Baines, for ward play obertan/Moses/De Laet this week
    Anybody any other option?
    please HELP me
    i have wild carded

out obertan in swp, out dyer in someone.
no use of having silva nasri/barry and dzeko together, that would be mancity overkill

If you've wildcarded and have all that in the bank then upgrade Dyer (Swansea seem unable to score) and Obertan (don't rate him), but not to Barry - he plays far too deep.

I wouldn't stick with Baines, if he misses these next two games he has tough ones after.

Bianes,Brunt and Walcott are the players I never seem to have when they go on a "run of good scores"...I have them when they get "zip"...

Bainesy, you need to pul that finger of yours(not your bloody hammy)

Walcott is just about to go on one of those "runs". He will have a field day against the defences he is about to come up against over the next 3/4 weeks... lets just hope the little punk stays fit to take advantage"

Depends who your other defenders are. Get one who rotates well with one of the others.

I always like having a player from a live game shown on sky. So after an international break, Sky decide to give us:

    Norwich vs West Brom
    Fulham vs Blackburn
    QPR vs Newcastle.

      I do that too.

It's the only part of my FPL playing where I let irrational reasons take the overhand. I buy players in games I know I will watch, and I captain them a bit too often as well 🙂

      Buy fat Grant Holt, CT.

Is it a risk to not have Dzeko? I've currently got him for the price rise, but I'm thinking of putting Adebayor in for him.

don't put ade just now, he mihgt not even start against wolves. on the other hand, dzeko's in a lot of teams so it could be risky not to have him in the team. he could score(even after coming off the bench) against wigan

To WC or not to WC, that seems to be the question this week.

    Now:
    Yaya, downing, sess, sinclair, moses
    torres, bent, suarez

    WC:
A young, downing, brunt, walcott, moses
    Aguero, best, suarez
