With the August transfer window now firmly closed, the thirty-two clubs participating in this season’s Champions League have subsequently entered their official squads to UEFA.

The tournament kicks off on Tuesday September 13 – that’s a week today – and Fantasy managers will be pleased to know they have the option of another game to test their managerial abilities – the UEFA Fantasy Champions League has opened for business, allowing you to consider the merits of Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and, of course, Alberto Aquilani for your fifteen-man squads.

This season we will not only be re-opening the Scout League (code: 212-74) for another title tilt but will be setting aside the regular Scout cap and donning a beret, fedora or perhaps even a Ushanka in order to provide coverage of the tournament over the course of this season. Whether it’s the continental glamour tie of Barcelona vs Milan or the perhaps slightly less appealing APOEL vs Zenit, every game will get some level of mention with player picks thrown in as we go.

Keep your eyes peeled across these here pages in the days to come for more information, then, but for now, let us begin tinkering with our new squads and relish the joys of being able to line up Wayne Rooney and co alongside our favourite players from La Liga, the Bundesliga and beyond.

My gk advice is a little different to everyone elses's because I jusy don't think you can get any better than Bergovic and Given together. A near perfect rotation at affordable prices with great opportunities for home cs on a weekly basis.

One too many exp defender: boot Bad K, keep Bos. SUN/NEW defs are worth a look imo.

Midpark: Too early for off-form ARS/Arteta and I'm not yet sold on Nasri at Citeh either when there are more influential players around him which will likely affect his ff score.

I don't see the point in Barkley (no ff worth in a team that will struggle for goals) and Dyer (absolutely no worth whatsoever).

Suggest Silva, Moses, Sess and possibly Mata.

      Fwds look excellent!

I was slagging off Dyer the other day until someone pointed out he's scored 2, 6 and 3 so far... not too bad for a 4.5m bench option. Better than bloody Victor Moses has managed thus far!

Keep up with your slagging, Jonny - I'll be right behind you. One of the lessons learned from last year's game was that you need 15 man squads. No worth in having bench warmers-it's just 4-5 million burning up your team doing nothing. Every player has to contribute.

Moses will come good - he has a lot of potential.

Ordinarily I'd agree, but it's tough at the moment because the 5-7m bracket is underperforming. Which makes it very tempting to stick an ubercheap midfielder in and splash out on the big guns.

Hope you're right about Moses... he'll probably score this weekend whilst sat on my bench.

I agree, there is a dearth of Charlie Adams types this year.

Take a look at the Watchlist on the right, who have we got to choose from?

              - Jarvis is the best in the budget range but I'm not sold on him
              - Taarabt has potential yes, even though he hasn't delivered yet and he's still fasting
              - Brunt threatens more than he actually delivers imo
              - Cabaye, again potential but plays in a team lacking goals
              - Sess, an OOP yet to deliver
              - Hotlips - roation-threat
              - Sinclair-will SWN ever score?

So there is not a lot of choice. I'm hoping Taraabt will come right. QPR have the best chance of the newly promoted teams.

                Hotlips=Hoolahan?

He's been my biggest disappointment. Had him in GW1, but benched him. Annoyed, but thought I'd got the first jump on "this year's Charlie Adam"... then benched the next week, and the dreaded 59 minutes the following week.

I still think he could do well, some decent home fixtures coming up, but so far he's been a real source of frustration.

Top 3 budgets for shots attempted:

                1. O Hara
                2. Taraabt
                3. Moses.

I think its a waste having 8 good attacking options, the bench is there so you can get 3 cheap players in who, if needed, can come on and do a job for you, which is what Dyer/Simpson/De Leat have done for me so far.

It then allows you to get a more powerful starting XI

I don't think there's a problem having a couple of budget options, as long as they are regulars for their team. It's a balancing act at the end of the day...

but that is why you get free trades every week, with proper planning you will be fine unless its just one of those ridicilous weeks where you have like 6 injuries...then you wild card 😀

And I trust players like Dyer/Simpson etc to be able to come on and potential get a clean sheet + some attacking points

      Morning!

I'm leaving ARS well alone until I see some form - I don't think it will be the goalfest everyone is thinking.

I've made the decision that Roopig and Suarez are season keepers. Could do with your Taraabt to come good. Any thoughts?

Fwiw, I can see Baines turning out this weekend. Could well be another one of those "England injuries."

Taarabt went to a fitness camp in France during the International break, which is a good sign as he wasn't very sharp in the first few weeks of the season.

Apparently he's come back in better shape and word is that he and Barton have been doing some good stuff in training, a lot of one-two's. I have faith in him especially now he has help around him and Barton will earn him a pen or two!!!

I have Arsenal cover with Arteta so probably best to see how he fares this week and then assess from there. If I wait til next week then the RVP switch only costs me 4 points.

Hope Baines plays Sarturday. That'll teach me to do transfers early to avoid rising prices during International break.

Bosingwa and Enrique are good IMO, and the 3rd spot (Simpson vs Brown) will depend on fixtures, but they rotate well.

    Richards, Johnson, Simpson, Bosingwa, Figuroa

    Rooney, Adam Johnson, Bent.

Should I get in RVP or keep it as it is ?

      6 mids?

Too many exp defs in there-you only need one. Keep Bos and boot Richards and Johnson.

Not keen on Figs either. Better 4.5s around like Ward, Young and S Taylor.

As I've mentioned, ARS are out of sorts at present. I prefer just Rooney.

Actually tempted since Fulham have 3/4 at home, No way will BB keep a CS at CC, Dempsey will most probably play upfront with BZ injury worries, RUIZ have signed and should create some decent chances.

My hunch is that he'll play - he is too important to EVR. He didn't play in either England game so hopefully the injury is not too serious.
If he doesn't play, I'm mobilising the ubers: Simpson then Young Caulker.

I hope so. The trouble is I only have him in my squad to take advantage of the next two games. After that I suspect I'll ship him. It would be annoying if he missed one of them. Also there's the danger of eventual price drop, especially if he doesn't play this weekend.

Yep that's my plan too. I don't want to make a transfer next week so that I have two freebies for the following week. It's always easier to shift players that way. Not sure if his price will drop though. He still has another good fixture coming up.

My real worry with Baines is the team he plays for who look out of sorts at present.

Yeah, it's a gamble but I need some differentials after not having Man U cover... It's why I've got SWP and Petrov on the bench, I can live with either of them taking over for potential rotatees 🙂

That's it, settled now, slightly different team than the norm - going for solid all over the pitch with big strikeforce. I think too many people think cheap defence is the way forward based on 3 gameweeks, long-term I think the big clubs will have more clean sheets.

    Krul (Vorm)

Enrique, Kompany, Bosingwa, Ivanovic (De Laet)

    Henderson, Silva, Anderson (Wright-Phillips, Petrov)

    Suarez, Dzeko, Rooney.

I realise Ivan may not play, but with SWP and Petrov on bench that should be adequate coverage for a couple of risks. SWP is not in favour but with free reign at new club I expect him to make an impact after a good pre-season - if he doesn't shine now he never will. Henderson is a different choice to most but now he's getting stronger he's really starting to get into the goals, Dalgleish seems to like him as well.

Surely it's better to have a 7mill(?) player being a defenite starter and a cheapy as a rotation risk?

Ivan/Henderson/SWP/Anderson could all be rotated at some point.

I won't sleep at night with that team.

Well anyone can be rotated - even the big guns! Injuries have partially forced the change, Adam in particular.

Ivanovic has the potential to score big with his attacking threat and the return of Cech in goal - he played last match with Bosingwa and after Alex cost them a goal he may well keep that spot. My thought with him is also that if I have to change him it'll leave me cash afterwards. I would have had two Man City defence but alas they won't let me have 4 from the same team 😀 Think I'll see how Santos performs for Arsenal as he has potential.

From the big clubs that keep clean sheets - Man U, Chelsea, City there aren't many better options anyway I think...

I think SWP at QPR and Anderson are pretty much nailed on - SWP because he wouldn't have moved to QPR unless promised games and Anderson as he's started well and he's now one of the more experienced central mids that Man U have left! 🙂

with henderson/swp do you actually think they'll score you points, or are you trying to justify the selection to yourself?

Nah, I've thought about it - Henderson scored well last season, he's starting strong this season and scored at internationals - it's a slight gamble but I prefer him to the usual 6.5 crowd (Taraabt, Sess etc). I've always liked SWP and he scores points when he plays - he just doesn't play much! I've liked the new manager saying he'll get a free reign role - I can definitely see him troubling any team and being QPR's biggest threat.

    ok, if i can get a second prise rise out of ward before the weekend i'll have;

    krul/vorm
    enrique/bosingwa/woodgate/de laet/(4.5)
    young/nasri/petrov/dyer/(6.0, anderson atm, maybe hunt)
    ven persie/dzeko/rooney

attacking-wise it's obviously pretty strong, the 6.0 midfielder is a headache, but there's a few decent players in that area so a misstep is a like-for-like swap. little concerned with the defence, but the firepower up front should more than cover that deficiency.

Hey guys, currently have Duff, Sess and Zogs in the midfield.. Will any of these start performing?? Have two free transfers and need to ditch Torres up front as well probably. What should I do with this team??

    Given (Vorm)
    Bosingwa Kompany Baines Enrique (Simpson)
    Sess Duff Zogs Nani (Moses)
    Torres Suarez (A.Johnson)

Am currently considering a 4 point hit which could pay off in going Duff-Arteta, Zogs-Nasri and Torres-Adebayor

    Hilario (Given)

I'm not going to take the -4 hit but want rid of Mikel as defensive midfielder.. I am however prepared to keep him for another week and swap Aguero to RVP instead as don't think Aguero will start after travelling back from Argentina and RVP will score points this week I am sure...

Just be careful, Kun's price might drop by then.

my team after a points hit:

    Hilario (Vorm)
    Bosingwa Enrique Kompany (Briggs, Simpson)
Taarabt Nani Silva Brunt (N Dyer)
    Suarez Dzeko(C) Rooney.

Seems that Hilario won't play now Cech is back in training, all i can hope for is save points for Vorm against Arsenal.

    Dzeko good captain choice?
