[sbu_large_image] Champions League

With the August transfer window now firmly closed, the thirty-two clubs participating in this season’s Champions League have subsequently entered their official squads to UEFA.

The tournament kicks off on Tuesday September 13 – that’s a week today – and Fantasy managers will be pleased to know they have the option of another game to test their managerial abilities – the UEFA Fantasy Champions League has opened for business, allowing you to consider the merits of Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and, of course, Alberto Aquilani for your fifteen-man squads.

This season we will not only be re-opening the Scout League (code: 212-74) for another title tilt but will be setting aside the regular Scout cap and donning a beret, fedora or perhaps even a Ushanka in order to provide coverage of the tournament over the course of this season. Whether it’s the continental glamour tie of Barcelona vs Milan or the perhaps slightly less appealing APOEL vs Zenit, every game will get some level of mention with player picks thrown in as we go.

Keep your eyes peeled across these here pages in the days to come for more information, then, but for now, let us begin tinkering with our new squads and relish the joys of being able to line up Wayne Rooney and co alongside our favourite players from La Liga, the Bundesliga and beyond.

England top 4 in the world? must have been on heavy drugs while finalising our world ranking. I don't think England fans care where we are in the euro table, we were lucky to steal that winning goal from a little bit of quality. We are no more ranked higher in the world than Wales maybe at 120th and that is at best? it's hard to swallow but it's something we must admitt instead of gloating here and there that we'll win this and win that. We wont, for the next 10 years at least and that's horrible news that we will not be able to compete at such a high level.

I don't think many England fans really thing they're going to win anything, I know I don't. That won't stop me going to the pub for every game and cheering them on even after every bad performance. It's your country after all. Sure there's a lot of hype every tournament but that's just the way it is. No-one really believes it but it's more fun than being negative.

To me it's the same as any supporter supporting a team who's unlikely to finish top of the table or in the playoffs.

Say you support Bristol City and you're about to come up against Chelsea in the FA Cup. You don't stop supporting them just because they're likely to get battered, you still have that what if moment, you know you're going to lose but it's more fun to support. Might not be the greatest example but that's what it's like supporting England for me.

To be fair, we really should be looking at the semis in the euros, I think we have every right to consider any less another failure.

Indeed, some luck in a QF and we may get into the semi's, or some luck with the draw, otherwise we're be lucky to get past the quarters.

              a) look at the state of the england team.
              b) you just love france because of your villainous arsenal ways.
              c) if Welbeck was called Welbéque and from Marseille you'd be soiling yourself in delight about his progress.

Trying to find a decent 5 mil mid with good fixtures ( Ie can rotate with Dyer at Swansea ). Got a shortlist of Barklay at Everton, Obertan at Newcastle who are both 5 or maybe Bradley Johnson at Norwich who is only 4.5 but is on Free Kicks and Corners? Any advice would be great. I can not go any higher than 5.1 mil

Not important in FPL, but I'm waiting on the Park classification for a different format game based on FPL scoring. If he's classified as a mid I want him.

              Although he won't be.

And I've already got Kolo in that game - for his total season points. Bonza!

    Hart

    Richards Terry Jones Cole

    Parker/Barry

    Cleverly Wilshere

    Walcott Rooney Young

Would like to see something like that for the Euros in 2012. Barry and Parker won't be popular picks but I think with Cleverly and Wilshere being much better going forward than sitting back you need someone who's disciplined enough to hold position in front of the back 4. Plus Barry has actually looked ok this season......so far. Would have to see how Cleverly's season goes, but I'd rather see him in there than Gerrard or Lamps.

That side gives experience and youth, with pace up front, creativity and Parker/Barry to help out in the middle of the park defensively.

Yeah saw yours. I guess Gerrard could play where I have Cleverly, I think one season at United is probably too soon to really break into the 2012 team. If Gerrard is given some freedom, i.e Barry/Parker behind then he could maybe still do a job. Have to see how he fits into this new look Liverpool team.

              Cleverley...

Sorry no, I know he's very highly rated on this site but I find it all quite baffling. All i've seen from the guy so far is neat and tidy, nothing special. He's only getting a crack at United because their midfield is so threadbare and for some reason United fans and posters here think he's the next big thing. I just don't get it.
I'm sure he's got the potential to develop into a very good player but he's miles away from that point yet, and certainly won't be there by next summer.

England's midfield options are pretty threadbare too in all fairness.

I agree he's overrated on this site, but I'd sooner see him than Lampard or Gerrard n the England team.

In fairness Gerrard's always done well for England. If he could stay fit from Christmas onwards i'd put him straight in.
I'd also maybe play Carroll as the forward with Rooney & Young as the supporting wide men. So many teams just haven't got a clue how to play Carroll and he can actually play it on the floor too which is rare for a target man.
Midfield i'd probably go for Wilshere, Gerrard and Milner/Parker, but certainly not Gareth Travelator Barry.

To be fair, Formica and Holt have both scored already. 1 goal in 3 is probably more than you can expect from 5.5m midfielders/strikers.

Posted this earlier but here's my wildcard team. Pretty settled on it at the moment, Foster and Vorm rotate well for the time being, might downgrade Mertesacker though maybe?

    Foster, Vorm
Mertesacker, Kompany, Bosingwa, Brown, De Laet
    Nasri, Brunt, Cabaye, Taarabt, Barkley
    Rooney, Van Persie, Adebayor

Yeah, I'd probably downgrade Mertesacker. I'm not a fan of De Laet but I suppose at his price that hardly matters. I hate seeing Brown in people's teams just doesn't feel like his presence signifies and surety of points. Simpson's a better option and if you downgrade Mertesacker too you can upgrade Brunt/Cabaye/Barkley and beef up that midfield.

Unsure what to do with DJ Campbell. Stuck to my bench for the last two games with a virus and listed as 75% for this gameweek. Should I stick with him for this week in the hope he plays? To transfer out at this point would necessitate a 4pt hit. I have moses and larsson as two of my mids and would rather not play both this week if I can help it.

I did Torres/Zogs>Dzeko/Young before price changes, but you'll need 0.8 in bank to do. Consider Arteta,Walcott, or Mata in place of Young.

There was a guy, Jimmy I believe he was called, who was on here yesterday who had Bent, Baines, Orr, and someone else who are all injury doubts for the weekend. He'd used up is free transfers, but even if 3 out of the 4 are ruled out he won't have to take a points hit to field 11 players, because he has a playing bench.

It's a good policy to have. I don't really know what Jagielka is doing in your team anyway, so I'd drop him for Hughes and upgrade Ferguson to Dyer.

People argue that it's a waste of money because they'll "never have to play him"... but it's more of a waste of money to spend 4m of your budget on a player who will never come of your bench to save you. Dyer already has more points than Ferguson got for the entire of last season.
