More bad news for Arsene Wenger as surgery rules Thomas Vermaelen out for two months. A hamstring strain makes Theo Walcott a doubt for England’s game with Wales, while Andrei Arshavin has his say on the Emirates transfers over the summer. Joseph Yobo joins the Everton exodus and heads for old club Fenerbache and Hatim Ben Arfa returns to first-team training for Newcastle. Here’s this morning’s Scribbles:

Only a day after Jack Wilshere was ruled out for a further three months due to an ankle problem, Arsene Wenger has been dealt another bitter injury blow. This morning has brought the news that Thomas Vermaelen had surgery on his left Achilles yesterday and will be out of action for two months. Vermaelen was out for virtually all of last season due to a problem with his right Achilles and Wenger will be hoping the same scenario doesn’t apply here. Per Mertersacker’s presence at the heart of the Gunners back-four will be even more significant in light of this news.

There’s more injury worry for the Arsenal boss- reports indicate Theo Walcott is struggling with a hamstring strain. The winger may be forced out of England’s midweek match with Wales and Fantasy managers will have concerns over this one- he’s looked in great form of late and has Swansea at home this weekend.

Andrei Arshavin has been having his say on the Gunners summer of player exits. The Russian is quoted to have described the loss of Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasr as “a catastrophe” and is of the opinion that Arsenal’s style of play is bound to change as a result:

” We have no-one so comfortable with passing the ball to Robin van Persie or who ideally utilises the qualities of the other forwards. With Arteta or whoever replaces those who have left, we will play different football, not as we played with Cesc and Samir.

Arteta and Benayoun have long proved themselves in the Premier League, they’re not bad signings. And we needed strengthening in those positions. Perhaps another holding midfielder wouldn’t hurt and, as far as I know, we were trying till the last minute to get M’Vila, but unfortunately we weren’t able to buy him.

Judging by the quantity and quality of our signings, Arsenal’s football will soon undergo some changes.

Micah Richards has given Roberto Mancini an injury boost ahead of this weekend’s home game with Wigan. The right-back limped out of the England squad with a hamstring twinge but has already started light training back with Man City and reckons he’ll be fit for the match against the Latics:

I felt a bit of tightness in the hamstring and it is not something I want to take any chances with. I missed some games last season with a similar problem and thought it best to be as cautious as possible. I have had the injury looked at and I am confident I will be available for the Wigan game at the weekend.

Everton’s Joseph Yobo has joined former club Fenerbache on a season-long loan. The centre half has been a somewhat peripheral figure in recent times for David Moyes’ side and his move is another step in easing the Toffees crippling debts.

The Sunderland future of Asamoah Gyan continues to look uncertain. Galatasaray failed in a loan-deal attempt before the closure of the Turkish transfer window last night and Marseille have claimed he was offered to them last week. The Ghanaian has been linked with Spurs and admitted yesterday:

“It is normal to be excited when a club such as Tottenham is interested, however I have a contract somewhere and I intend to honour that.”

Hatim Ben Arfa has returned to first-team training with Newcastle. Given the Frenchman’s appalling luck with injuries since his move to St James’ Park last season, Newcastle are unwilling to put a date on his likely comeback and will continue to monitor his progress

Reports suggest Wolves are looking to snap up James McFadden. The player is a free agent after his contract at Birmingham ended and Mick McCarthy is rumoured to be eyeing up the Scot as he looks to provide competition for Matt Jarvis and Stephen Hunt out wide.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

I was looking at Sturridge, who is very tempting, but Anelka, Drogba, Kalou will all play some time, there is just too much rotation there. I think only Ade is a sure thing from that list, probably Hernandez also.

haha, i've always prefered united over arsenal, although i like bergkamp, overmars & pires. but now, its just wenger being too inactive in the transfer market, they should have paid over the odds for gotze and bought a renound striker. if rvp gets injured they will struggle to finish in the top 8.

The problem as far as I see it is there are too many forwards who are a 'must' at present.

Dzecko, Rooney, Suarez seems to be the most popular frontline (based on RMT's) but that means leaving out RVP, Adebayor, Bent, Tevez, Aguero, etc. all of whom can have a good argument made for inclusion. That doesn't even take into account the bargain strikers such as Odemwingie, Long, Fletcher, Bendtner, etc.

Heaven help us if a Chelsea striker manages to nail down a place in the team and starts banging goals in!

This Arsenal game against Swansea is going to be a total anti climax... with all the RVP and Walcott captains (im sure they will both play) after such a brutal drubbing im sure it will either be a 1-0 or 1-1 type of game, all those who put their faith in a team that has not won a game in the last 3 gameweeks will not benefit from a big scoreline and they will be saying "I told you so" to themselves.

That is only looking at cold hard facts... Fabregas and Nasri and Clichy leaving caused a lot of demoralisation and especially the comments made by Clichy and Nasri. Those players despite their age were senior members of the squad who the younger ones look up to. Now with the results being so bad they will not have confidence on the pitch. Also RVP has no forward to play alongside - he is better playing off another striker rather than two wingers as in the old arsenal system.

Think chelsea last season - it took them a LONG time to start picking the results up after a bad start

The back-to-back 6-0 wins were pretty disappointing. I thought they could have forced a few more corners than they did.

          Chelsea's start last season?

          Chelsea 6-0 West Brom
          Wigan 0-6 Chelsea
          Chelsea 2-0 Stoke
          West Ham 1-3 Chelsea
          Chelsea 4-0 Blackpool
          Man City 1-0 Chelsea
          Chelsea 2-0 Arsenal

Then it went a bit pear shaped...:P

Or alternatively you can look at it as owning Suarez will make it very hard to push on past people. Swings and roundabouts.

Id get Walcott if hes fit. Im a Manchester United fan and the form is good, but there probably wont be scores like last GW, so young is overkill IMO and Mata is a rotation risk for now.

Found a good goalie combination,9.5 hennessy and begovic
one of them at home up to week 20 and not bad fixtures...
    SPURS,QPR,UTD,NEW,FUL,SWA,NEW.WIG,QPR.BLA,SUN,SPU,STO,ARS,AV,WIG
    2 reasonable teams wolves/stoke and a bit of a differential i think......

Nice combo! Think I’ll save a mil and go with krul/vorm though – more save points from them but probably less cleanies than your 2. Plus the extra mil can be invested elsewhere

you can pick up a swansea and newcastle defender for 4.0 each, but you can't pick a wlv or stk defender for 4.0

so, ignoring price rises (assume you already have vorm)
        krul/vorm/ward/woodgate = 17.5
        begovic/hennessey/Ntaylor/simpson = 17.5

I have a question guys. please
I made 3 transfers this week, so 8 points hit will deduct from my total score after deadline.

I dont care the total score now, i have a mini league results of GW 2-3-4-5-6, so i wonder 8p hit will deduct from my point in the min league or not? Hoping not now.

    Krul(vorm)

    Bosingwa Enrique Kompany (simpson delaet)

    Jarvis Silva Arteta Brunt (dyer)

    RVP Dzeko Rooney

I’ll save 2 FT untill gameweek 6 and then change

    Brunt > mata and
    Dzeko > Holt .
Is it okay if i downgrade Kompany > brown this week to free up some cash for upcoming weeks ? thoughts ?
