Leighton Baines looks like being fit for Everton this weekend, as does Theo Walcott for Arsenal. Darren Fletcher declares himself fit and raring to go, while Luis Suarez pleads not to be rested. New QPR star Joey Barton praises the Newcastle fans and Steve Bruce talks up the talents of the shy and retiring Nicklas Bendtner. Here’s today’s Scribbles, folks:

Reports this morning suggest Leighton Baines will be fit for Everton’s weekend clash with Aston Villa. Having limped out of England’s training camp with a hamstring problem, the left-back was expected to be unavailable for the game but it appears he is well on schedule to now feature. David Moyes received some bad news on the injury front to temper his cheer- Victor Anichebe could be out till Christmas with a groin tear.

Steve Bruce has been talking up Nicklas Bendtner ahead of this weekend’s home clash with Chelsea. The pair, of course, have linked up previously, when Bruce took the Dane on loan while manager of Birmingham and the Black Cats boss applied a little flattery while speaking to the Sunderland website:

There’s no doubt that he has terrific ability, and we might just have got him at the right time. He’s got something to prove and a real hunger to show people just how good he is. Maybe he has lost his way a little bit over the last couple of years but I’m convinced this is the right move for him. Nicklas is a very naturally gifted footballer.

Arsene Wenger received some good news on the injury front ahead of Saturday’s match with Swansea. Kieran Gibbs and Theo Walcott are set to be fit and available for selection as the Gunners look to bounce back from their 8-2 hammering at Old Trafford.

Steed Malbranque is looking for a swift return to the Premier League. The Frenchman played just 26 minutes for new club St Etienne before announcing his retirement but changed his mind after the club cancelled his contract. Now a free agent, the former Sunderland player would relish a return to England’s top-flight.

Bryan Ruiz has vowed to repay the faith shown in him by Fulham, with the club paying over £10m for his services before the closure of the transfer window. The big-money buy from FC Twente spoke to the club’s official website:

I know that a lot is expected of me but I’m here to make a difference – I want to do all I can for Fulham. The club paid a lot of money for me, I know that, but it is a responsibility I am willing to carry. I will react positively and hopefully I can take the chance that I have been given.

It’s been reported that Samir Nasri is expected to play for Man City against Wigan on Saturday. The Frenchman broke a finger on international duty and despite endless speculation via the likes of twitter for much of yesterday, City have yet to comment.

Ahead of his QPR debut against old club Newcastle, Joey Barton has vowed to show some respect. There’s no lack of irony that the midfielder will face Alan Pardew’s side in his first game in QPR colours in Monday night’s Loftus Road showdown and Barton was nothing but complimentary to the club’s supporters:

The fans were brilliant at Newcastle. In my last couple of seasons there, they’ve supported the football club through thick and thin. I’ll always have a relationship with them. What’s gone is gone. I’m never going to say a bad word about the football club or the fans. I wish them every success.

Darren Fletcher is eyeing up a return to the Man United first-team after coming through two lots of ninety minutes on international duty this past week. The midfielder looks to have finally put his struggles with a mystery virus behind him and is ready to challenge the likes of Anderson and Tom Cleverley for a place in the starting XI.

I feel good and I’m ready to go back to my club now and somehow get back into that team. I don’t think I’ll walk into the team but I’m ready to play. The team are performing so well just now so I don’t think the manager will be making too many changes. I’ve got to be patient and wait for my chance but I’ve been in that situation before and I know what it’s all about.

Alex McLeish has played down fears of a troubling groin problem for Aston Villa keeper Shay Given. The Irishman has battled the injury during the start of the season and took a knock to his back while on international duty but Big Eck expects him to be fit and ready for the trip to Everton this weekend.

Luis Suarez has insisted he is anything but fatigued ahead of Liverpool’s trip to Stoke. The Uruguayan has been eased back into domestic action by Kenny Dalglish after a summer of Copa America duties and has yet to play ninety minutes for the Reds.

I want to play in all the games I can for Liverpool. I don’t want any rest at all. Despite only having that week’s training before playing again, I’m only 24 so I felt good.

With Javier Hernandez looking likely to start this weekend at Bolton, Wayne Rooney has been praising his fellow forward. Worryingly for the rest of the Premier League, Rooney feels playing alongside the Mexican means he’ll only get better this year:

Me and him do a lot of finishing after sessions to try and keep progressing and getting better. It’s great to have a lad who has just come into the team, who speaks good English and is always smiling. It’s great for him and for me to have someone like that. I think we can both learn from each other.

    A: Given / Vorm
    vs
    B: Krul / Vorm

I currently have option A, but do you guys think B is the better pick?

If I stick with A, then I may have Given + Warnock. If I go for B, I may have Krul + Simpson so I'll end up doubling up half the time, either way. Thoughts? 🙂

Can someone please give me some advise, im spending far too long deciding.

    I cant decide between

    Dzeko & Jarvis/Anderson/Brunt
    OR
    Fletcher & Walcott

Im playing my wildcard as ive had a nightmare start but im worried if I dont get Dzeko then my rivals at the top will creep further away.

    RM (WC) T

    Given (Vorm)
Bos Kompany Enriqe (De Laet Simpon)
    Young Silva Moses N'zog (Ferg)
    Rooney Dzeko Suarez

    Would you do:

    Suarez > Adebayor
    and N'zog > arteta

I'm also thinking about downgrading Kompany to improve the mid?

I'd rather drop Dzeko than Suarez.

Adebayor - wait a few weeks for his fixtures to clear.

I'd consider Bale as an option over N'Zog (if you can find a way to fund it).

      Also Ferguson - no.

Out of interest, is it possible to rise twice in one day? Friday could see a massive influx of Dzeko and Rooney transfers.

I wouldn't be too surprised if he'll be 9.0 or 9.1 by the deadline.

Yeah, he'll be there, but suspect he will be rested. Will wait for a couple of weeks to see how the Tevez/Aguero/dzeko issue pans out.
But Dzekos there now, cause that's where the profit is.

I have nasri + Dzeko, Mata + Sturidge and Walcott + arteta, knowing full well that I'm likely to transfer out at least two of them in the next few weeks, depending on developements.

Still can’t decide on whether RVP is worth decimating my midfield for. What are your thoughts on these front 7 options

    A.
    Silva, Young, Brunt, *PETROV* (Dyer)
    Dzeko, Rooney, *RVP*

    B.
    Silva, Young, Brunt, *ARTETA* (Dyer)
    Dzeko, Rooney, *SUAREZ*

Looking at fixtures, its actually reasonably close:-

    Suarez stoke(a),spurs(a), Wolves(h), everton(a), Man U(h), Norwich(h), WBA(a), Swansea(h), Chelsea(a), Man City(h)

    RVP Swansea(h), Blackburn(a), Bolton(h), spurs(a), Sunderland(h), Stoke(h), Chelsea(a), WBA(h), Norwich(a)

    I make it 6-4 in RVP's favour

Hardly a decimation, Arteta - Petrov

Having said that RVP has been overrated on here in the last two weeks, you'd have thought people would see through the 4 goals he scored in the international given he was against a school boy team. He is equally as likely to score as suarez, he WONT score big.

Does this team look wildcard worthy? 😛
    Given(Ruddy)
Senderos Kompany Bosingwa (Taylor S [1], Brown [3])
Obertan Hoolahan Lampard Silva (Moses [2])
    Rooney Long Bent

I've already made two transfers this week, no good cheap options really surfacing at the moment to put in my team instead of who I have but I have six injury/starter concerns in Given, Obertan, Long, Bent, Silva and Senderos and no coverage from Arsenal.

I think at the moment if a couple of my injury doubts look like starting I'll be more likely to stick with my team for this gameweek at least and see how it goes. I can't really do anything unless I change Lampard to Mata but I don't think he's a proven starter/performer yet, and I don't think Wigan and Swansea will be pushovers against Man City and Arsenal respectively.

I may end up leaving the decision late. :p

If they are injured or doubtful and you need to do it to put 11 out then yes. Otherwise no imo, you have the players because you thought they were good. One or two low scoring games doesn't make them bad players. Way too much knee jerking in FPL because of too many wildcards.

Don't throw the points away, but in the longterm it may be useful for you to move before prices drop at a cost. Having a player drop below the threshold of anyone else decent is probably one of those times where you're punishing your team by holding on. I'd go for it.

Hits are rarely worth it, unless you can't field 11 players. Or you get incredibhly lucky and get the 20 pointer for teh week. i.e nani to Young last week for -4 is obvioulsy worth it.

If you must, it's got to be for a big hitter and to try and maximise chance of success, captain him.

The thing is that if a player you own drops 0.1 then you lose all of it, while when a player goes up in price you need him to go up 0.2 to get 0.1 of value.

Therefore it's more important to avoid a 0.1 fall than to chase a 0.1 rise.

To answer your question though - it depends. If your starting XI is good enough I wouldn't do it, but if it will improve your team for the gameweek and in the longer run I'm more inclined to take a -4 to avoid a price drop the earlier in the season we are.

The major price rises this year I think will mean it's even more important to get the big names/big risers in early - or face having to fork out a hefty amount to get them in down the line. And possibly face not being able to afford them at all.

Why is everyone going for Arteta over Walcott? Im presuming Van Persie will retain set piece duties, Arteta will still be acclimatizing to the gunners style of play and theres no guarantees he will play just behind the Dutchman, he could play a withdrawn role with Gervinho and Walcott off the striker. Walcott as much as I hate the guy for England is surely a safer bet, for this gameweek atleast, until we see what system Arsene looks to employ.

Swansea also had a fairly dreadful away record in the Champ. A team with new players is likely to do quite well, as the opposition will be less prepared to deal with them tactically.

Ah, Now back to me, you decided whether you're going for Rooney & RVP or still got the balls to go for Suarez, Dzeko & Ade?

I had a proper think yesterday and came up with a team I think is pretty damn handy, but the fear of not having the two biggies up top will probably get the better of me.

It's quite a long post, but this is a possibility (and my reasoning) if I do muster up the courage to go without Rooney & RVP. The captain choices could be a bit of a bugger, but I'm tempted.

Going for the 3 value strikers, brave man, part of me wishes i would aswell, still might! I don't think captain choices are a big worry, when you have RVP & Rooney it's easy to ignore other good potential captain choices, eg.. Adebayor could score big this week. Im not a big fan of the defence if im honest, otherwise it looks strong.

Cheers for the feedback. I just think Ade, Suarez & Dzeko are too good-a value to turn down. They'll score lots of goals, I've no doubt about it.

                Have you thought about:

                Begovic - Krul
                Hennesey - Vorm

                They rotate well.

And then maybe downgrade Arteta to Ramsey or N'Zogbia.

That should give you enough to bulk up the defence, if you like rotating pairs, Enrique and Jagielka rotate really well.

Pretty happy with my line up anyway
    Given
    Shawcross, Hughes, kompany, Bosingwa
    Young, Silva, Henderson
    RVP, Rooney, Holt
    (Vrom, De Laet, Moses, Dyer)
I n=know i may be taking a bit of a gamble with Henderson but i thought he looked good last week and im not sure what other decent options there are for 6.5. What do you all think?

    Naughton, Barnett, De Laet, Tierney

Last season Martin was a good source of assists for th ecanaries getting 5, si pushed the boat out and spent the 0.5 more on him than De laet 🙂 I haven't seen any Norwich games this season, Is Martin coming back from injury or has he lost his spot to Naughton (on loan from spurs) and is just wastin a spot in my team as well as losing 0.1.

he is, but......Will he start? How many minutes will he play? Last year he was the main focal point, will he still be?

Lots of questions Augero/Dzeko/tevez even balotelli to a certain extent.

It's a gamble and if it pays off, you will definately jump up you leagues and will get a lot of investment (especially early on, lots of knee jerkers who tend to give up and disappear after a November)

A differential doesn't have to pay off to be a differential.

I wouldn't say its nuts, but why take a risk now?
