Alan Pardew bemoans his side’s lack of new signings. Andre Villas-Boas admits he’d have no problem dropping Lampard or Torres, while Roberto Mancini mulls over handing Carlo Tevez a start against Wigan. Kenny Dalglish comes to Andy Carroll’s defence and Kevin Davies promises Man United a rough old time ahead of tomorrow’s clash at the Reebok. Here’s today’s Scribbles, folks:

Didier Drogba is looking to return from concussion in time for next week’s showdown with Man United. The Chelsea forward will miss tomorrow’s trip to Sunderland and the midweek Champions League clash with Bayer Leverkusen but Andre Villas-Boas said yesterday the club would ”push it to the limit” to ensure the Ivorian is ready for the Old Trafford clash.

Villas-Boas also admitted that, if necessary, he will have no qualms about dropping either Frank Lampard or Fernando Torres. The pair were omitted from their respective international line-ups last week and while the Chelsea boss backed his under-fire pair, he admitted:

The moment when it compromises the running of the team, I think it has to come to an end, which is fair enough.

Man City are reported to be not too overly worried regarding Samir Nasri’s broken finger. The winger is still in line for a start against Wigan tomorrow and although the club have yet to comment on the injury, Nasri tweeted yesterday:

I broke my finger during the last international game, I will let you if I will be able to play Saturday.

Reports today suggest Carlos Tevez is in line for a first-team recall. With Sergio Aguero playing in India and Bangladesh the past week while Tevez stayed at home in Manchester, Roberto Mancini may give Tevez a chance to start against Wigan. City play Napoli in the Champions League on Wednesday and Mancini will want Aguero 100% for that one.

Stuart Holden is edging ever-closer to his Bolton first-team comeback. The midfielder turned out for the reserves on Wednesday and, having also played last week, is clocking up the minutes as he battles back from a knee injury. Owen Coyle is delighted with his progress:

‘It’s great to have him back. I think he has probably been getting a little bit frustrated because he thinks he can click his fingers after being out for six months and get back at the level he was at.It takes time to build up that fitness and your decision-making in a game, but it was great to see him running about with a Bolton Wanderers shirt on, albeit in a reserve game.

Alan Pardew revealed his frustration over his lack of signings in the August transfer window. The Newcastle boss was desperate to add to his options up front but in a statement that is unlikely to go down well with Mike Ashley and co, Pardew said:

“I can only say that, from my point of view, we put the targets in front of the board and then it comes down to financial decisions, and that financial decision didn’t take place.”

Kenny Dalglish defended Andy Carroll yesterday, following criticism from Fabio Capello over the striker’s form and fitness. The Liverpool boss spoke ahead of tomorrow’s trip to Stoke:

I think it is unfair to discuss Andy. Everyone wants to talk about it but we have said what we have had to say. What we have said is very pertinent and very honest. We know the truth. We do not have any problem whatsoever with Andy. We are delighted to have him here and he will be a fantastic asset for us.

Kevin Davies has promised Man United they are in for a battle tomorrow evening as the Trotters play host to Sir Alex Ferguson’s side. The forward spoke of his imminent tussle with United new boy Phil Jones and alluded that Bolton intend to target David de Gea’s shaky start to the season, saying:

United at home is one we all look forward to and we fancy our chances against anyone here. I faced Phil Jones at Blackburn last year and he’s a big, strong boy, so I’ll be looking to give him a going over…I’m sure there’ll be a few crosses going in.

Hi guys. I'm after some help! I'm about to play my wildcard but not sure who to pick. I've had about 15 different teams lined up in the last two weeks!

My team as it stands (before I use the wildcard):

    Given (Vorm)
    Bosingwa, Kompany, Simpson, Hughes, Alcaraz
    Young, Dyer, Cahill, N'Zogbia, Ferguson
    Suarez, Bent, Torres.

There is 0.4 in the bank. Any suggestions?? Please help! It's driving me mad!

Then again, you can transfer players in early and have them injured on international duty giving falls in prices. Jumping the gun has swings and roundabouts.

I've got a wingie itch that needs scratching. First thing that stood out when I first saw the fixture list was gw3 is odemwingie time.
Now he's yet start a match and suarez, dzeko, rooney & rvp are too scary if you don't have them.
Brilliant schedule all the way to gw 17 except for a block of 3 in the middle, and what a player! It feels wrong trying to predict returns from the motley crew of 6.0 to 8.0 midfielders but not having room for wingnut.

Seems like he's been completely pushed to the side because of one person....Shane Long. He's not the lone striker anymore, I still think he'll score well over these next few weeks, but not to anywhere near the same extent.

Woy had them playing 4-4-2 last season, didn't affect his form at all. In fact I think his returns actually increased a little bit.

The other striker last season was non-existent points wise though. Long is a striker, he played a shocking pass in a great position against Chelsea which should have seen them go 0-2 up, however that is just one pass. I think they're both as selfish as each other to be honest.

      Im having the same problem.

And no answer to it yet.

Im leaning for dropping Dzeko, hell probably start, but I think playing with Tevez will reduce hes role and after they lead 2-0 at halftime, hell be subbed to give him rest for CL.

Rooney on the other hand with tough fixtures, will have to play all game, being their best player. Can also get subbed if they demolish Bolton. But he has Set pieces to give him the edge.

                Brunt to Petrov. Gain 0.5m

Then, Enrique to Hutton, (rotates with de laet)
Brown to Taylor (swansea rotate with newcastle)

Use the 1m to switch Krul/vorm to begovic/hennesey.

                How do you like this:

                Begovic/Hennesey

Boswinga, Hutton, Simpson, De laet, Taylor

I never said he wasnt a good player, but not FF worthy. Too many capable scorers in Liverpool, combined with potential rotation. Well they did buy Andy Caroll for some reason.

is enrique downing and suarez too much liverpool coverage with their tough run of fixtures coming up?

i'm looking to bringing in walcott, i have bale at the mo who looks likely to drop in price tonight, so i dont know if i should get rid of bale or downing?

i also want rvp in for suarez, but i can't really do both as that'd be -8 altogether (already made a transfer this week)

Interested to see what other people would do:

Already spent 4 points on a transfer this GW and want to do

Dzeko & Cashley to RVP & Swinga

    Should I:

    A) use my wild card to pull back my 4 points alreayd used.
    B) Wait till next week and lose another 4 points and use the free trasnfer
    C) Do it now and hope the 8 points will be made up by RVP scoring

Hi guys, i made a function to help print out your team, in the transfers page just paste this into your address bar, don't worry its nothing malicious

    javascript:var theplayers = [];$(".ismPitchWebName").each(function(){theplayers.push($(this).text())});var sf=function(a,b){return theplayers.slice(a,b).join(", ")};var SS = "\t\t"+sf(0,2)+"\n"+sf(2,7) + "\n" +sf(7,12) + "\n\t" + sf(12,15);alert(SS)

    Given (Vorm)
Bosingwa - Enrique - De Laet (Brown and Shawcross benched due to Chelsea wanting to get its Big Game and heavy Liverpool presence, otherwise DeLaet would be there)
Nasri - Adam - Brunt - Arteta (Dyer - could switch him with Brunt, tho?)
    Rooney - Suarez - Adebayor

Leaning towards Nasri as Captain, but with his hand, who knows. Rooney for backup or actual Captain.

Did Bent to Adebayor recently - wanted a nailed on starter and Spurs seem much more willing to attack than Villa.

My team is awful but I have been busy and didn't get round to using the wildcard yadda yadda...

Anyway, I have a free transfer, proposing the following:

    Bent, Torres, N'Zog - OUT
    RVP, Holt, Walcott - IN

    Would make my line up:

    Given
    JE, Jags, Bos
    Walcott, Cahill, O'Hara, Sinclair
    Rooney, RVP (C), Holt

Sound ok? Silva instead of Walcott for MC coverage?

    Thanks
