We know now.

Roberto Mancini was the picture of innocence in his pre-match press interrogation. We suspected that he was due to pull Carlos Tevez from his exquisitely tailored sleeve for the home meet with Wigan. Hands up though, having pocketed the air miles and soaked up several in-flight movies, we were amongst those who pictured Sergio Aguero making way – like for like – it made sense. How wrong, how very wrong.

There was always mild concern, a twinge of doubt, that Edin Dzeko could be sacrificed following two Bosnian outings. Surely not though – surely the four goal blast at White Hart Lane had rendered Dzeko bomb proof?

Butter wouldn’t melt, Mancini appeared to scoff at the idea of changing a winning team in preparation for Wednesday’s date in Naples. Samir Nasri was fine – his troublesome hand injury wouldn’t keep him out. And yet, the Frenchman was preserved temporarily on the bench. More significantly, Mancini opted to hand him the potent Dzeko for company. The six-goal striker was left to shuffle uncomfortably while Aguero expertly stroked home City’s opener via the mesmeric David Silva. A hat-trick followed for the Argentine hitman, memories of Dezko’s White Hart Lane brilliance dissolved goal by goal.

There was of course mixed emotions in the Fantasy community. The despair of those who eagerly boarded the Bosnian’s bandwagon, matched only by the gleeful satisfaction of those who spurned the hot ticket. Fantasy Premier League Wildcards will have been fluttered to ride the wave of Dzeko’s rising stock but now, with rest and rotation already rearing it’s head, we’re left questioning the merits of Dzeko’s selection.

Mancini’s decision confirms that he is far from untouchable – regardless of form and performances on the pitch. City’s fluidity and goal power without him also demonstrates that Mancini can afford to tinker with the rich talent at his disposal and get results.

Four games in the next eleven days is indicative of City’s schedule and Fantasy investors are set to be left dreading the arrival of Mancini’s teamsheet for much of the season. Presumably we’ll see Dzeko take the field against Napoli on Wednesday; does that endanger his start at Fulham next Sunday? Gameweek six looks even more uncertain – Everton at home, Bayern Munich three days later. Where does Mancini shift Dzeko to fit into that puzzle?

His owners will be left asking the question week after week; can he deliver regularly enough to warrant such a level of anxiety?

Suddenly the dull security offered by the likes of Darren Bent looks attractive – an unglamorous ex, but while an unreliable Dzeko can gave us fireworks, Bent will never stand us up. Perhaps penny pinching up front is futile – Luis Suarez aside, perhaps we have to spend big to win big with our forwards?

So many questions remain, in truth we know very little from today’s events – the only thing that is certain is uncertainty. We suspected as much from Mancini – now we know for sure. Dzeko is at the mercy of the Italian’s tactical whims. He’s not the only one – it remains to be seen how many Fantasy managers are willing to play along.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

If he does, then it's pathetic.
I think they should make an amendments to the rule, otherwise it's going to be open season on all sorts of claims. I wish they wouldn't have given Rooney's last week.

Let me hop on my soapbox here for a second...

I'm in quite a few leagues. In these leagues, there are quite a few people who set up a team and haven't looked at it since. Now these people wouldn't be massive fans of football, so the only player they know really well is Rooney. They've all captained him since the start of the season. Every week they're getting 60+ points because of him, even though the rest of their teams get single points. All while I, a hardcore FPL addict, who is constantly examining injuries, fixtures, price changes, am only getting random points here and there.

To sum up, I hope he gets injured/rotated/starts going bald soon.

OK, don't make any changes and see where you are at Xmas.

Casual players usually do well in the first few weeks of a new season. Once injuries, suspensions and double gameweeks come along though that's when they usually fall by the wayside.

You need to be patient in FFL.

Stoke are looking superb at the back. Bit overdue as in previous seasons they've not been able to deliver the clean sheets you'd quite expect. Couple of my rivals are doubling. I'm looking at Shawcross and Schwarz could go for Begovic if he rotates with Vorm!

Villa Stoke Swansea are in my defensive radar. At the mo I have Baines K and Bos who I'll keep but A Cole can probably go.

Depends if you have the defender whose team has conceded the late goal in your team or not.

Nothing better than seeing your rival's cleanie go in injury time. OTOH, nothing more annoying than losing those 4 pts to the last kick of a game!

Is Torres finished? I mean kaput, a shadow, never to be seen again in the realms of 20+ goals a season?

I'm seriously suspecting his only way to get back is head home to Spain? If AVBhas seen enough, will he be sold for £15mill in the Jan window? Not improbable at the minute I reckon. FFS Sturridge scored today first start!

    Worth an article chaps?

As an Arsenal fan im bitterly disappointed at our display against Swansea. If all we can manage is a goal on the back on a monumental balls-up from Vorm then we may very well be in the relegation battle come end of the season.
Secondly, as an RVP captainer, what a load of bollocks. 2 bloody points. Does anyone think he has any chance of BP?

I came top 500 last year, 20,000th (approx) the year before (my first year). This year so far? 1.74 millionth. Won my 20 team minileague both of those years (last year by a mile). This year? Just crept up to 2nd from bottom, about 100 points off the leader!

Where is it all going wrong?

How about captain choice? RVP, Torres, Torres, RVP = total of 6 points!! The leader captained Rooney last week, Aguero this week!

How about following FFS tips...Moses, Sess, Taarabt, NZogbia, Malouda, Silva (Ok that one was OK!)

How about trying to play the fixtures...Man U have got a hard start...I'll avoid them and get some Chelsea in...

Re: post about Murray being able to beat Nadal this year.

He definitely has the ability but it's unlikely to happen in a long match. he also needs to work on his temper, he lets things get him down quickly and it affects his game.

The other problem with winning a major is, even if he beats Nadal, there's super Novak standing in his way. Even when you beat one of the big guns, there's always another!
