We know now.

Roberto Mancini was the picture of innocence in his pre-match press interrogation. We suspected that he was due to pull Carlos Tevez from his exquisitely tailored sleeve for the home meet with Wigan. Hands up though, having pocketed the air miles and soaked up several in-flight movies, we were amongst those who pictured Sergio Aguero making way – like for like – it made sense. How wrong, how very wrong.

There was always mild concern, a twinge of doubt, that Edin Dzeko could be sacrificed following two Bosnian outings. Surely not though – surely the four goal blast at White Hart Lane had rendered Dzeko bomb proof?

Butter wouldn’t melt, Mancini appeared to scoff at the idea of changing a winning team in preparation for Wednesday’s date in Naples. Samir Nasri was fine – his troublesome hand injury wouldn’t keep him out. And yet, the Frenchman was preserved temporarily on the bench. More significantly, Mancini opted to hand him the potent Dzeko for company. The six-goal striker was left to shuffle uncomfortably while Aguero expertly stroked home City’s opener via the mesmeric David Silva. A hat-trick followed for the Argentine hitman, memories of Dezko’s White Hart Lane brilliance dissolved goal by goal.

There was of course mixed emotions in the Fantasy community. The despair of those who eagerly boarded the Bosnian’s bandwagon, matched only by the gleeful satisfaction of those who spurned the hot ticket. Fantasy Premier League Wildcards will have been fluttered to ride the wave of Dzeko’s rising stock but now, with rest and rotation already rearing it’s head, we’re left questioning the merits of Dzeko’s selection.

Mancini’s decision confirms that he is far from untouchable – regardless of form and performances on the pitch. City’s fluidity and goal power without him also demonstrates that Mancini can afford to tinker with the rich talent at his disposal and get results.

Four games in the next eleven days is indicative of City’s schedule and Fantasy investors are set to be left dreading the arrival of Mancini’s teamsheet for much of the season. Presumably we’ll see Dzeko take the field against Napoli on Wednesday; does that endanger his start at Fulham next Sunday? Gameweek six looks even more uncertain – Everton at home, Bayern Munich three days later. Where does Mancini shift Dzeko to fit into that puzzle?

His owners will be left asking the question week after week; can he deliver regularly enough to warrant such a level of anxiety?

Suddenly the dull security offered by the likes of Darren Bent looks attractive – an unglamorous ex, but while an unreliable Dzeko can gave us fireworks, Bent will never stand us up. Perhaps penny pinching up front is futile – Luis Suarez aside, perhaps we have to spend big to win big with our forwards?

So many questions remain, in truth we know very little from today’s events – the only thing that is certain is uncertainty. We suspected as much from Mancini – now we know for sure. Dzeko is at the mercy of the Italian’s tactical whims. He’s not the only one – it remains to be seen how many Fantasy managers are willing to play along.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I think a pair of £5mill defenders are better value than trying to go 3-4-3 for the sake of it. Shawcross and Enrique plus two others in a 4-3-3 for example. You have to spend either big money or avoid in midfield at the mo. Anderson is starting to look worth having though as a cheapie....

+1 to all of that. 4 3 3 seems the way to go. Anderson and Enrique look good value plus Shawcross + Hutton/Warnock offer perfect rotation and the oppurtunity to play both if the fixtures commit. Something you can't do with the Bego Given combo.

Gave him the armband for QPR, but then saw him score well in his last two games, which is part of FPL Sod's Law. Go for it I say.

Wonder who will be City's strikers next weekend? Dzeko will obviously be playing in the CL midweek. Bit worried that Mancini might see him as a key CL player and hence he will be regularly rotated in the PL prior to those games. City have a hard group as well.

I hate that second wild card. Without it I would have not even contemplated getting Rooney out of my team and would have probably captained him in all these starting 4 gameweeks. My thoughts before GW2 were something like I'd get RvP now because I'd want him in GW4, he wouldn't score much less than Rooney in GWs 2&3 and I'd save a transfer and have more freedom for transfers in the international break... I don't dare to count how much this way of thinking has already cost me.

In previous FPL seasons, I was consistently too stubborn to get players who were killing me for a while. Usually it worked out well, but sometimes it cost me too much. I'm even more stubborn now, which means no Rooney any time soon.

As a result, now I still don't have Rooney and besides I started to hate that hairy fat prick. And that's all thanks to that 'gift' from FPL...

    Just wanted to share.
    The end.

I wouldn't underestimate the dullness of new rules.

The only thing that can prevent it from being an assist is that they say that the deflection after Walcott's shot (which happened out of the box) altered the intended destination of the ball (which it actually didn't, the ball just flew higher than initially)

Guys, I know its mad, but it IS an assist. Wallcott put it into the box, the goalkeeper controlled it for a few seconds, threw it off a defender who was inside the box and Arshavin scored. The ball NEVER went dead.

As mad it it is, it would be more wrong NOT to give the assist as it would show that the rule is not steadfast.

Whether the gk controlled the ball for 5 seconds with his feetm his hands, his testicles.it doesn't matter What matters is that Walcott was the last Arsenal player to touch the ball befor Arshavin scored.

its actually very very clear. If a player puts a ball into the box, it doesn't matter how many touches the opposition take with the ball INSIDE the box...if it eventually falls to the feet of a player who scores, the first player gets the assist.

However, if an opposition player takes a touch OUTSIDE the box, then subsuequently dispossed by a player who then scores, its no assist.

Amin point-it all depends whether the opposition touch the ball inside or outside the box before the goal is scored.

Vorm saved the ball. - Yes but ball wasnt dead.

Then threw the ball of the heel of a Swansea player, Arshavin picked it up and scored. -Yes, ball was kept in box by gk and def, arrived to Arshaving who scored. Exact textbook definition of an assist.

The way this season is going, perhaps it would be better to just have 3 MU and 3 MC attacking players and be done with it?

3 from Rooney, Hernandez, Young, Nani

3 from Aguero, Dzeko, Tevez, Nasri and Silva

Then fill your team with cheapos

      Agreed
probably 5 defenders for 4 mil, who you least expect to get Cs's

E.g. with 3 tfrs I could get this team...

      Krul - Vorm
Bosingwa - Enrique - De laet - Simpson - Taylor
      Silva - Nasri - Young - Moses - Dyer
      Rooney - Hernandez - Dzeko

Did you watch Barca earlier today, they are better than the team that battered utd in my opinion.

I'm not Utd bashing I'm just shocked how a team so f*cking good can be so far off the best.

Great times to be a football fan.

Waste (also known as rubbish, trash, refuse, garbage, junk, litter) is unwanted or useless materials. In biology, waste is any of the many unwanted substances or toxins that are expelled from living organisms, metabolic waste; such as urea, sweat or feces. Litter is waste which has been disposed of improperly. Arsene Wenger has managed to stubbornley assemble a collection of rubbish unprecedented in the history of the premier league, they are destined for lower mid table mediocrity and Arsene Wenger is totally accountable for it.

(I may have added a bit to that wiki copy paste)

Do BBC have a "we cannot mention Gary Cahill playing crap again" rule or what?

What other defender would not be picked apart in a 4-0 loss?

I remember a few foreigners being subjected to it last year every weekend.

    Double standards
