We know now.

Roberto Mancini was the picture of innocence in his pre-match press interrogation. We suspected that he was due to pull Carlos Tevez from his exquisitely tailored sleeve for the home meet with Wigan. Hands up though, having pocketed the air miles and soaked up several in-flight movies, we were amongst those who pictured Sergio Aguero making way – like for like – it made sense. How wrong, how very wrong.

There was always mild concern, a twinge of doubt, that Edin Dzeko could be sacrificed following two Bosnian outings. Surely not though – surely the four goal blast at White Hart Lane had rendered Dzeko bomb proof?

Butter wouldn’t melt, Mancini appeared to scoff at the idea of changing a winning team in preparation for Wednesday’s date in Naples. Samir Nasri was fine – his troublesome hand injury wouldn’t keep him out. And yet, the Frenchman was preserved temporarily on the bench. More significantly, Mancini opted to hand him the potent Dzeko for company. The six-goal striker was left to shuffle uncomfortably while Aguero expertly stroked home City’s opener via the mesmeric David Silva. A hat-trick followed for the Argentine hitman, memories of Dezko’s White Hart Lane brilliance dissolved goal by goal.

There was of course mixed emotions in the Fantasy community. The despair of those who eagerly boarded the Bosnian’s bandwagon, matched only by the gleeful satisfaction of those who spurned the hot ticket. Fantasy Premier League Wildcards will have been fluttered to ride the wave of Dzeko’s rising stock but now, with rest and rotation already rearing it’s head, we’re left questioning the merits of Dzeko’s selection.

Mancini’s decision confirms that he is far from untouchable – regardless of form and performances on the pitch. City’s fluidity and goal power without him also demonstrates that Mancini can afford to tinker with the rich talent at his disposal and get results.

Four games in the next eleven days is indicative of City’s schedule and Fantasy investors are set to be left dreading the arrival of Mancini’s teamsheet for much of the season. Presumably we’ll see Dzeko take the field against Napoli on Wednesday; does that endanger his start at Fulham next Sunday? Gameweek six looks even more uncertain – Everton at home, Bayern Munich three days later. Where does Mancini shift Dzeko to fit into that puzzle?

His owners will be left asking the question week after week; can he deliver regularly enough to warrant such a level of anxiety?

Suddenly the dull security offered by the likes of Darren Bent looks attractive – an unglamorous ex, but while an unreliable Dzeko can gave us fireworks, Bent will never stand us up. Perhaps penny pinching up front is futile – Luis Suarez aside, perhaps we have to spend big to win big with our forwards?

So many questions remain, in truth we know very little from today’s events – the only thing that is certain is uncertainty. We suspected as much from Mancini – now we know for sure. Dzeko is at the mercy of the Italian’s tactical whims. He’s not the only one – it remains to be seen how many Fantasy managers are willing to play along.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Might put money on Sunderland to go down. They look terrible and in previous seasons Bent's goals kept them up but who is going to score the goals now? I don't think Bendtner will make that much of an impact.

Blackburn, Wigan and possibly a shock, but probably Swansea. They are similar to Birmingham in that their team is Prem quality and good defensively, but they struggle to score in a barrel of fa***es.

However, their playing styles completely contrast.

Besides the fact its nonsense, the stat even it were true is also nonsense given
      1. There are a sh*t load of small point guards in the league
      2. Besides this he wouldnt have anywhere near the leg power or plyometric ability to do that given all Basket ball training in weights and conditioning is to based mainly on leg power and spring.

All the attacks seemed to go down the right wing, as Bolton's left-back, (Robinson), was so poo.

In the 8-2, all the attacks went down the left wing as Arsenal's right-back, (Jenkinson), was so poo.

Basically, for clues over who will score well each week out of Nani and Young, just go with the player that is up against the worst full-back from the opposing side. 😉

I can't remember exactly for the Arshavin goal, but did the initial deflection from Walcott's shot occur outside or inside the box?

If the deflection was inside the box, then I think it should be an assist because I think the new rules are that no matter how many opposing players touch the ball inside the box, then it's still an assist for the second-to-last player to touch the ball. Certainly all of Vorm's touches and Rangel's touch occurred in the box, I remember that much.

I don't have Walcott, I just want consistency, no matter how absurd the assists actually are. 🙂

I have a basic understanding of what the RIPA Act is but that aside, "power" is a constantly shifting phenomenon and the majority of people are not players in the power game. Most people just want to get on with their lives and rightly so. It does not matter what hall of mirrors you put it in, it can only be an assist if one interprets the definition in an absurd manner.

The people you perceive to have power aren't so. Whatever priminister gets elected, not much will change. It's the heads of media, and Walmart directors etc... Ever heard of the Bilderberg group. It's official. It's just its not broadcasted about because they ARE the people controlling what you see. Bit freaky, but it's been the case for a while. Fear allows them more control. They invented "terrorists"

I understand the composition of the Power Elite and how governments are ratified, toppled, bought and sold by private interest. This has always been so. However, if enough people speak the truth and continue to do so in the face of a "power" that would silence them, at least then there is hope. No assist I say.

I don't think the 'possession' thing matters, as the Arsenal dude that headed Rooney's cross out, clearly had possession and consciously made firm contact with the ball as he (craply) cleared the ball out of the area, but that assist was given.

Basically, had the Walcott shot have been deflected inside the box, then literally he would have been given the assist by the current rules, which shows how silly they are.

In a way, I do like the fact that more assists are being given, as it means that more players can get points, but we have had some bizarre situations so far this year, and there is no excuse for inconsistency from FPL.

Yeah, but surely players from other teams that don't begin with 'Manchester' will start getting solid points, and then all the Roonpig owners will be reluctant to get rid as they don't want to have to buy him back for way more.

What I fear is Rooney producing like Ronaldo used to, where he was basically owned by everyone in the game. It sort of ruins it a bit for me, I want to see my team with different players go up against rivals with different players.

It's a bit dull when everyone's teams are the same, they all have Man City and Man Utd forwards and midfielders, with the odd Chelsea defender. Barely any Arsenal, Liverpool or Spurs players kicking around, save for Suarez.

I had him last week but in a last minute wildcard move switch him and Enrique to Baines and Hernandez. Which in terms of pure points has paid off, as I wasn't going to captain Rooney anyway. THAT is where my error fell, but I'm probably going to crawl back to RVP (or maybe go for Baines to further justify the switch) later on.

Nobody will outscore him this season. It makes sense in a way but sometimes it's better to just get him as a defensive move and focus your differentials elsewhere.

I don't have him, but that's not why.

Have to say there's a logic to your argument. I personally thought Tottenham/Bolton would have done some damage on paper to Manu's defence. Iv'e avoided any player in Manu's defence. Now I'm looking at Jones after the Chelsea game. De Gea though does look suspect... think what a Drogda/Carroll/Dzeko would do to him. Next fixture for Manu after Chelsea is Stoke away - I will see how he does there before taking any chance.

A lot of people in my league tend to get one big keeper, De Gea a prime culprit, and he's just so consistent it's like a 6 point base every week, which does pay off.

Given/Begovic would be just as solid, definitely something I'm thinking about in the very long term.

No one wants to spend big on 2 keepers - they are generally regarded as a reflection on how affective the back 4 are. So hedging your outlay is affective means to spend effectively. My choice at the moment is Given/Vorm - Given/De Gea or Cech would be a lot of money just to get possible six points if the defensive unit does it job. Every season though, there is a keeper that exceeds expectation - last year it was Ben Foster. Not sure who will make the mark this year.

I am already 100 points behind the leaders in my fantasy league having played my wildcard.

Last year, I had Drogba at the start of the season and at the last minute changed him to Rooney as I heard he was injured. Drogba wasnt injured, caused me to fall well behind everyone else in the league as Rooney turned out to be sh!te. So I decided against him this year, having been burned before. That was the first of a series of bad decisions in only four gameweeks.

In short, there is no way I am going to win my league, so logically I should stop playing FPL and and use the couple of hundred hours I would spend browsing sites like this to take up a new hobby, like jogging. Give up now?

Following Rooney's controversial assist awarded last gameweek, i was wondering, in the Arsenal game for Arshavin's goal, Theo Walcott hits the ball into the box, then Vorm catches it in the box and hits it off the Swansea player in the box before going out to Arshavin. In the rules of the game shouldn't Walcott then be given an assist as all the touches from the Swansea players occurred in the box?

...you'll probably guess i have Theo Walcott in my team this week :p
